Some people in these photos clearly forgot the first cardinal rule of perms: you’re forbidden to wet your hair for at least 24 hours after getting a perm at the risk of deactivating the ammonium thioglycolate.
Perm on short hair can be very granny-ish. But you can save it with styling and some products. I had a perm on 2inch hair. Couldn't wait to get home after and re-style it. 😂
the way they style short hair in salons always gives elderly lol, i always would go home and cry, washed it out and once it was laying normally i realized it was a perfectly fine cut lol
People if you get a perm please please please learn to style it!!!!!! You can’t just put no product in and air dry and expect it to look good!!! You have curly hair now you can’t be treating it the same way as straight hairrrr. Most of these pictures were just photos of people who didn’t style it or brushed it when dry!!!! Please buy a curl cream and defuser if you get a perm. Also get some layers or else you will look like a triangle!!!!
I do perms all the time. Curl cream is still much too heavy for my hair- it's no good. Getting a perm changes the curl pattern and can affect porosity but it's not going to completely alter your hair type. A perm curl is different from a natural curl.
We all want what we don’t have at some point in our lives. I’ve permed my hair and I always go back to straight. Too high maintenance and in the way. 😂 straight is just simple and no hassle for my adhd. It’s fun to try new things, I get bored extremely easily. 😅
you can't expect your now curly hair to look good when you're doing nothing for it. they brushed their hair like it was still straight and it's not anymore 💀 so yeah, your going to get crazy frizz. curly hair needs a LOT of humidity and hydration, that's the way it works. so if you want to just brush it and go out don't get a perm it requires time and maintenance 💥
I was thinking they just look like a cute curly look 💀 maybe we just have different fashions though, most people have naturally straight hair in China right? Maybe that means they expect curls to always be photoshoot ready hair styles without knowing how much goes into it since they don’t see people with naturally curly hair as often?
Also, depending on hair length, a perm can make your face look more round as it adds volume and width, but yer even a good perm requires some Stlying. But also theres no comeing back from a bad perm unless you are prepered to spend alot of time fixing it
You have to know how to take care of the curls after, i natural have curly/ wavy hair and i dint care enough to go though the process... it's either frizzy or oily...i always wear it up except right out of the shower it air dries... it's pretty when done right i just dint care enough, but if you're going to pay for it... learn how to maintain it
Honestly i think it's just a question of styling. I permed my hair for a few years (until my hair stylist changed locations and i have no idea where she went), and you definitely can't treat it like you do straight hair haha
Wow i never knew this before!!! I love the look of long, dark, straightened hair. The curls are gorg tho. That wife learning how to do it at home is the goat!
They should probably try treating their hair like it’s naturally curly or wavy after. Not to mention they forget when your hair is curly it tends to rise upwards in the beginning and also it will look shorter than it is because it’s curled
From a person with (naturally) curly hair, most of this is just proof of straight haired people being clueless about how to care for curls. It is far more complicated to deal with texture to the point it takes even people who have it natural years to master the proper ways. So PSA i guess to anyone watching: textured hair is NOT remotely the same or similar to straight hair! curls need a lot of moisture, they also need dedicated protein products & say goodbye to that typical brush you usually use. a boar bristle brush & wide tooth comb are essentials for detangling and avoiding frizz/static with curls. 65% of these perms looking so horrendous afterwards is exactly how us natural curly heads would look if we used "normal" brushes. the other 35% is the non-existent moisture, protein & styling. Be educated on curl care before you get a perm please
Perms can easily be reversed! If you hate it, wash your hair several times. That'll relax it a lot, it could even remove it. If you want it all out, get the perm solution, & use it, but comb your hair straight. Process it like the box says, just don't roll it up. Also if you do this, condition your hair a lot for the next two months. It'll need it. Most people do not look good in perms. I certainly didn't.
The idea is to request what size curls you want and which salon you go to. If you want a modern look then don't go to the auntie's salon. Also you still gotta manage your hair with a perm or it'll be frizzy
Oh god as someone who was a teenager and had a disaster perm I’ll always remember the acrid smell. I vowed to myself ‘never again’. It looked awful and ruined my lovely long hair so that I had to cut it into a bob and grow it back out.
Lmaoooo yeah the really tight curls, especially on short hair, make girls look like ah-mas. It looks like the girls getting better results went for larger rollers that were angled correctly to give them those soft waves.
It’s funny cause all the ladies have to do is literally just BRAID AND ACTUALLY STYLE their hair & they’d be fine. No seriously, I do braid outs all the time and that’s how I refresh my hair for that “wavy” or “beach waves” look. Just add a good hair oil, a brush, and braid. Then take the braids down whenever you’re heading out somewhere & proceed to style. It’s a really simple solution tbh.
That only works if you already have texture in your hair. That doesn’t work on straight hair. I do that to my wavy hair and it works but it doesn’t work on my mom who has very straight hair
It's also probably because they don't know that there's a specific way of taking care of curly hair. Some of these look like they went home and treated their hair the same way they cared for their formerly pin straight asian hair, combing it while dry and not using curl styling products.
its funny as someone with naturally curly hair to watch ppl get perms and not get the perfect curls they want. no one ever expects the bounce back that happens when you have texture in ur hair 😂😂 if you want soft, loose curls you should just put normal rollers in ur hair because chemically creating actual tight curls will never give you that picture perfect result
There is one of the most important rule in my life: NEVER get your hair done (tryin something new) before special event! NEVER. It will come a disaster
I think the problem is they still think it’s just like their straight hair 🤦🏽♀️😅 I only brush out my natural waves on my short hair if I want a real POOF of hair 🤣
Rule 1: your perm never touches water the first 48 hours Rule 2: learn to style your new curly hair Rule 3: Hairdresser must inform you of the products you now need to use to takecare of your perm, usually a curl gel/cream Rule 4: layers!!!! Layers for god's sake!
well, i don't know if a perm can be stylized, but let me tell that natural curly hair can look way worse than those bad perms if you don't follow a hair routine religiously, so hope is not completely lost.
Hey, I know you probably didn't mean it, but could you call it 'lunar new year' instead of 'chinese new year' a lot or countries celebrate it, not just China! I'm not trying to be mean, but a lot of people in other countries could get offended. Love your videos!
Being asian and having naturally almost curly hair I feel like... GIRL why are they combing/brushing their hair, that hair is begging for some oil for some nutrients WHAT ARE THEY DOING
*_Unironically???_* *I think they just don't know how to style curly hair.* 💀 I've seen those hair textures IRL in my own family and these just look like when they have bed head. You just have to know what you are doing with this type of hair. 🤷♀️
I love how supportive the African descendants are being. It’s one thing to blatantly steal something and not give credit by inventing a new name, and another thing to call it as is, “a perm”. You are more likely to receive support or even approval when doing so. ❤
Some people in these photos clearly forgot the first cardinal rule of perms: you’re forbidden to wet your hair for at least 24 hours after getting a perm at the risk of deactivating the ammonium thioglycolate.
Elle Woods would be proud of you.
Yessss Legally Blond ref go crazyyy!
That’s why she couldnt have been showering!
Killed her own dad by accident smh
Oh that lawyer lady in red that appear in my youtube recommendations from time to time
Perm on short hair can be very granny-ish. But you can save it with styling and some products. I had a perm on 2inch hair. Couldn't wait to get home after and re-style it. 😂
Knowing how to style curly hair, specific routine and use correct products is key! And the most important, kepo your hair moisturise!
@Oftenboy My hair is naturally like this and I shaved it off last april. I've been rocking that granny look for months now
the way they style short hair in salons always gives elderly lol, i always would go home and cry, washed it out and once it was laying normally i realized it was a perfectly fine cut lol
Did you wash when restyling? If you did then you washed out the perm too soon, meaning you'd have much softer but frizzier waves.
This!!
Yes! 👏
Cruel that the stylists don't explain this enough &/or sad if the clients don't listen
I do perms all the time. Curl cream is still much too heavy for my hair- it's no good. Getting a perm changes the curl pattern and can affect porosity but it's not going to completely alter your hair type. A perm curl is different from a natural curl.
Oh my! This makes me so grateful for my natural curls 😂⭐️
Right? Seeing how my natural waves are what they want makes me smile
why? natural doesnt guarantee good, imagine getting stuck with a natural bad curls... haha jk jk
@@laurenlettiere1381 umm I dont think they necessarily want perms, they want a type of hairstyle that a perm enables. big difference.
We all want what we don’t have at some point in our lives. I’ve permed my hair and I always go back to straight. Too high maintenance and in the way. 😂 straight is just simple and no hassle for my adhd. It’s fun to try new things, I get bored extremely easily. 😅
在中国,这几天有很多 开开心心进入理发店 哭哭啼啼出来的人 哈哈哈
i know damn well some of them didn’t follow after perm rules

You shouldn’t wash your perm or have water touch it at least within the first 48 hours!

Cardinal rule of perm care 😂
(remember this for if you commit murder)
So true! My hairdresser said that to me the very first time she did it to me, and if you do so, you get wonderful curls
@@Shuang_Shuang legally blonde 😂😂
Some of those “bad” perms just look like my natural hair😭😭
Bruh I was thinking the same. The way my smile dropped 😂😂😂
Same 🥲
Damn 💀 Entire country calling you out
For real they didn't even look bad it's just different to their natural hair :(
I was thinking they just look like a cute curly look 💀 maybe we just have different fashions though, most people have naturally straight hair in China right? Not following the perm rules and not being used to styling and caring for curly hair leads to these results
Happy new year, wish all health and success❤️
Literally gave me chills ...in a good way. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! God bless and keep this child.
The size of the curly you want is the same size as the roller
Honestly i think it's just a question of styling. I permed my hair for a few years (until my hair stylist changed locations and i have no idea where she went), and you definitely can't treat it like you do straight hair haha
Black hair stylist need to go to China, we’d be amazing 😂🤗
They all look good! They just have to learn how to work with their hair, and style it better! ❤ Nothing that gel and curlers won't fix!
Most of them look fine
Wow i never knew this before!!! I love the look of long, dark, straightened hair. The curls are gorg tho. That wife learning how to do it at home is the goat!
I thought most of these were really cute! Just frizzy from lack of aftercare
As a product of the 80's, I know first-hand how hit or miss perms can be! Some were brilliant, with perfect waves...others looked like Harpo Marx.
They should probably try treating their hair like it’s naturally curly or wavy after. Not to mention they forget when your hair is curly it tends to rise upwards in the beginning and also it will look shorter than it is because it’s curled
Thank God I have natural curls but even it's sometimes hard to maintain the frizz
Honestly my first thought when watching this was how beautiful Chinese people are, even while having a hair disaster.😂
Purple fireboy!!!!💜🔥
More like the witch from hocus pocus
I’m stuck with natural curls as I Chinese girl 😭
They are so hilarious 😂 …
The guys perm is sending me 😂😂😂😂😂
Oh! I am much more grateful for my wavy curly hair now haha

You need olaplex and curl cream. Gonna look like a frizzy mess unless its styled

the girls with the tight curls look so cute im so sad that they hate it 😭😭😭
Oh god as someone who was a teenager and had a disaster perm I’ll always remember the acrid smell.
I vowed to myself ‘never again’.
It looked awful and ruined my lovely long hair so that I had to cut it into a bob and grow it back out.
Reminds me of the one episode on fresh off the boat where the mom and dad got a success perm to show off
Oh my goodness, this was too funny!
They need to learn to style and care for curly hair. That’ll help a little bit.
Ohhh, so that's why my mom gifted me a hair curler... for my 3 inch long hair... I was so puzzled lolz
it's the same here in Japan.
The DIY looks better than the salon. 😅😂
🤣 its not just me then 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Girl at 28 seconds didn't look as bad as she thought she did. I think its cute.
This trend started during my grandmothers time to emulate the western styles like Shirley Temple and Marilyn Monroe
If there's one thing I learned from Legally Blonde it's that if you don't like your perm it goes away with water
Lmaoooo yeah the really tight curls, especially on short hair, make girls look like ah-mas. It looks like the girls getting better results went for larger rollers that were angled correctly to give them those soft waves.
nevee been happier for my curly hair
There was literally no curl on site😂 all i so was some waves that looked like you have a good nights sleep. But definitely not curls😂
Waves are a type of curl
My mom used to get a perm too, just so she could have something I naturally have 😂
Curly hair also needs different cuts, which is very visible here.

Tin foil and perm chemicals don't mix
Rule 1: your perm never touches water the first 48 hours

No freaking way, i have that hair naturally and have been straightening it for years
My sister, who’s ten, gets perms every few months.
some of these bad perms are prettier than my natural hair lmao
Being asian and having naturally almost curly hair I feel like... GIRL why are they combing/brushing their hair, that hair is begging for some oil for some nutrients WHAT ARE THEY DOING
Why the hairstylist there didn’t learn how to make a good perm if everyone want one every new year 🤔
I love all the perms. I think most of those need a different haircut. it's not the perm
well if it works it's gorgeous haha
Their permed hair looks like my bed hair haha.
Well they definitely should only do it at places that specialize in getting a perm if they can 😂
that one guy looks like the Cynthia doll from rugrats....
Ouch not them dunking on my natural hair texture
u need to visit a hair salon that is manage professionally. lol
Nah cuz who ever said that about gambling 😭
U want to curl your hair don't cut it if it is already short don't curl it
Wooow 😂😂😂😂
Ouch that's my natural hair....
Some of the girls just need to style it lmao
Most of them just needed to use some conditioner.
Girl..
What, what was the result you were after😂?
FIREBOY????
They just dont know how to use hair products to define their curls
*_Unironically???_*
*I think they just don't know how to style curly hair.* 💀
I've seen those hair textures IRL in my own family and these just look like when they have bed head.
You just have to know what you are doing with this type of hair. 🤷♀️

Welcome to the 1970s
perm propaganda... I had a perm in high school and it looked nice but was so hard to take care of... you'll never get me again
Nah they got the right curls but they don’t know how to style them..

Some of them look good wuh :v Maybe I just like grandma look?
why do you sound like AI
Lol...
Getting a perm damages hair
People get to just look good
Literally everything you do to your hair to change it damages it. No shit lmao
Lol, they have anome hair
Not all the "bad" ones are bad tho 🥲
literally, i guess they wanted the wavy type of perm 😹
It’s cause they treat curly hair like straight hair. You can just brush it out you need to wet it apply products and style it
