One of Abba's finest songs. Frida's and Agnetha's voices are so different and so beautiful. They are impeccably synchronised and combined. Masterpiece!
When I first heard them, I assumed they were sisters (like Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart) because sibling harmonies are often so amazing. My mom was born in 1920, grew up very poor. Her dad died when she was five, her mom died when she was eleven in 1931, and she and 3 of her siblings went to an orphanage. The oldest was 14 and considered too old to go to the orphanage, so she went to work as a nanny for a widower with 2 small children. He married her when she turned 15. Their mom had no money for gifts for her five kids, so she gave them the only thing she could. She loved music and taught those kids to sing in harmony. She taught them every song she knew, from Gospel to 19th century bluegrass murder ballads, to funny novelty songs from the 1920s. When I was a kid, we had family reunions every year, and after supper everyone sat outside under the oak trees as cousin Dale brought out his guitar and those siblings would sing the songs their Momma taught them long ago. I loved hearing them sing!☺
Really sophisticated song. Minor key verse, pre-chorus, major key chorus, and if that wasn't enough, the major key post chorus breakdown. Many chords, all of them perfectly chosen. And the details in this song are extraordinary. The spaces. The tense little guitar lick at the end of the verse. The accents of horn over the chorus. This is pop songwriting genius. Up there with Jeff Lynn, Brian Wilson, Burt Bacharach and the Beatles.
I’m not a huge ABBA fan, I do like them though. But , this song is just magnificent! So many layers and nuances that work so well together and Anna and Frida sounding amazing. And horns! For me personally by far their best song
It happens to me all the time...when I hear one ABBAsong(original or cover) I fall into playing and watching an ABBA marathon of music and videos , can't stop listening and watching!! Love ABBA!!❤️
My favourite Abba song. Their most complex hit. By rights the structure is too complicated for a big pop hit, but the genius of Benny and Bjorn turned it into a number one hit in the UK. Just such an incredibly satisfying listen: a mini classical opus masquerading as a pop song.
Exactly! That's what I feel, a special atmosphere in this song. I used to sing it going to school, during the classes, returning home. Magic part of my life.
Such a fantastic story of four people who came together to realize a dream, fell in love with each other, created such an amazing musical songbook and changed the world forever. Love them or hate them, you cannot ignore their legacy in modern pop music.
This song is brilliant, one of my favorite ABBA songs. Not only does it sound great, but its structure and everything is very complex and unique. There's so many layers of vocals and the harmonies are perfect, and there's so many changes in sound and pace. The verses and the chorus sounds like two completely different songs, and then Frida also sings acapella in one part, but somehow it all works. Genius songwriting.
Those two women’s voices shine, like a godly yin and yang in perfect harmony. Frida’s richly intense EARTHY tone (that seems to portray wisdom and contentment) blended with Agnetha’s poignantly open ANGELIC voice (that seems to capture love and desperation) … creates this GODLY sound, a vibrational frequency that puts us in awe and in harmony with the universe. Magic, I tell you. It’s magic. 😊😊😊😊

@@angusthecat6617 Well, John Lennon himself said that SOS is the most perfect pop song ever written. But come on, boring answer my friend. There are so many bands, you can say "oh but how about Queen??" or whatever. We can have bold statements, they are fun !
+Celtic Lady. Sadly, I'm old enough to remember when this first came out. It was an OK, average sort of song to me then. I never noticed all the subtleties in the arrangement that I can hear now. Now I realise just what a fantastic song this is (along with all of the others!) I've heard a lot of ABBA fans say that they didn't really appreciate how good they were at the time. It's only in recent years that they've experienced an epiphany.
Ben, a lot of their songs have great basslines (especially songs like One Of Us) that I never really noticed at the time. It was partially due to the fact that 40 years ago our TV's and radios had tiny little tinny speakers.
Purple Lady,it's exact like Lew Minati is writing here.I was a boy in the 70's, and me and my friends could hear, that Abba was making good music. But just like many other groups then.Only later I began to hear and realize that they weren't just good. But really a phenomanon, undoubtedly Abba is one of the best groups ever!Since then I'm a diehard fan....
Brilliant artists aside, can I just say how refreshing it is to watch a video of people with their own lovely and charming teeth (not veneers), women not overly made up so that they're unrecognizable, and just healthy, beautiful, but natural looking people sharing their talent with the world? I miss people looking like people.
Just imagine.. lyrics, music, rythm, voices, melody, harmony, chorus all blended into one perfect package. Who says ABBA is just a world famous pop band? ABBA is the name of a musical genius of the calibre of a Mozart or a Beethoven of the modern era.
Its 2021 and Im sooooooooooo addicted to this band all over again!! It must be the need for a past time when the world was so much better. These four made it that way and their music of course.
In addition to how both Agnetha / Bjorn and Benny / Frida are looking at each other with so much love, what makes this video all the more beautiful is the fact that Agnetha was pregnant with her daughter at the time!
How could her husband ever cheat on her. He had the most beautiful woman in the world. So sad... She was your wife. You were her heart.. Why, it wasn't worth it to you. I will never understand How you could do that to her. She is so beautiful. You are not. I don't understand what she ever saw in you. You broke her heart. I seriously dislike you. All of the artificial fame. You thought you could be with anyone. You are Right. So stupid of you. I hate what you did to her
I may have commented on this before in the years I've listened to it. This masterpiece is my most listened to song ever. It has depth, heart breaking lyrics, remarkable arrangement and then the harmonies ... yes those harmonies, even Phil and Don would tip their hat to this
Fantastic riffs and harmonies, they never fail to amaze me how talented they were, they deserve their place as the greatest pop band the world has seen.
Als je verliefd bent en je hebt door dat het niet bij hem of haar zo is jammer love you allways god bless ga geen probleem zoeken gadoor schat love allways god bless
This song is one of those early ones that really still lasts today. You can hear right away that it's ABBA. I am today 60 years old and have followed ABBA from the very beginning. I still have their old LP and cassettes standing at my old turntable who has struggled a lot of years to play the records. I'm looking forward to the new album next month. Greetings from Sweden!
Hello Peter. Happy Birthday for two weeks ago. 🥰 Love Jan. I loved them when I was young (I’m 56) but it was hard in England to say that I liked them then as there was scorn in tough mining towns like mine. Those days are gone. I can say now that I loved ABBA and love them still. Go well Peter and Blessed Be.
Sooooo talented so beautiful. There will never be a group LIKE ABBA ever again. Soo blessed to have been born when I was to have been "there" for ALL their hits❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm not sure if this song even has a chorus as it is very complex but when Anni-Frid sings "Tell me please.." at 1:17, the song leaves the pop world and soars to another dimension.
This might not be their best song but it is my favorite. The combination of the odd structure, tempo and chord changes and the ever great melodies just does it for me! The 2 different ways to get to the maj7 floors me each time.
At 16 I remember when this song came out and was a hit in US the early part of 1978. I was just mesmerized by such originality, construction of this song and the incredible sing a long harmonies, sophisticated pop. I still remember clearly the DJ of my then favorite pop/rock radio station shouting out when he played this song "Oh man, I am lovin' and diggin' this tune ! "
@@ratter531 😀I appreciate that, but it is impossible to say which one is the most beautiful song. There are SO many. To me it changes all the time right now it is "I am not that woman" from the new album. Greetings from Finland!
Yes. It's now my new favorite ABBA song. Always liked them, but after watching a documentary on them last night I have "rediscovered" my love of their music - and this song in particular.
Well, it was released as a single, and there's no such thing as an unsuccessful ABBA single, so better quit parroting cliché typical UA-cam "underrating" comments where it does not belong or apply, if you kindly will.

Rite back at ya Butch & yes, the only way to play top shelf, quality music is loud! - it quite simply does not get any better than this.
HI friend!
when those harmonies come in! WOW!
I dont think this vocal quality will ever be paralleled.
Timeless. So many elements to the song. If this came out today i belive it would still be a big hit.
Listing to the acoustic rhythm in this song is like listening to Ringo on his drum kit, really catchy melodic riffs.
One of Abba's finest songs. Frida's and Agnetha's voices are so different and so beautiful. They are impeccably synchronised and combined. Masterpiece!
Composition, performance, production and arrangement all perfect. A masterpiece indeed.

Agreed! Andersson/Anderson/Ulvaeus concocted so many great tunes.
Thank you for your professional music comment.
Im a huge fan of Led Zeppelin, Jethro tull, Black sabbath, ACDC, Iron Maiden etc. I also believe ABBA is quite possibly the greatest.

All four of them are very attractive! I especially thought Björn was dreamy when I was a teen.
Frida was stunning!

Totally
No, but there is wall-of-sound, track layering technique. And lots of auto harmonies to create those haunting choruses
@@BroccoliBeefed Sure...but those layers were added on WITHOUT Autotune. As in....multple passes and hitting the right note each time.

The voices that come in after Agnetha sings the line “if I said I cared for you” are truly HEAVENLY. She’s absolutely smoldering in this video too 🤩
The way that Benny looks at Frida....Wow!

They’re great, but so are The Beach Boys. 🤨
@@angusthecat6617 Well, John Lennon himself said that SOS is the most perfect pop song ever written. But come on, boring answer my friend. There are so many bands, you can say "oh but how about Queen??" or whatever. We can have bold statements, they are fun !
Это просто шедевр! Столько мелодий, столько переходов, двойное солирование, меняющийся ритм! Волшебно! И клип чудесный, живой, легкий, радостный)
ABBA meine Liebe
curiously complex for something so immediate. absolute masterpiece in songwriting.
How can anyone NOT like this.. Or Abba?!
+Celtic Lady. Sadly, I'm old enough to remember when this first came out.
It was an OK, average sort of song to me then.
I never noticed all the subtleties in the arrangement that I can hear now.
Now I realise just what a fantastic song this is (along with all of the others!)
I've heard a lot of ABBA fans say that they didn't really appreciate how good they were at the time. It's only in recent years that they've experienced an epiphany.
who does not like it because they never heard or do not like what is good
Ben, a lot of their songs have great basslines (especially songs like One Of Us) that I never really noticed at the time. It was partially due to the fact that 40 years ago our TV's and radios had tiny little tinny speakers.
Lew Minati Wasn't they awful :) Great to hear the quality with today's stereo's,But' At least we still had music.
They get better the older the songs get, pure class
Brilliant artists aside, can I just say how refreshing it is to watch a video of people with their own lovely and charming teeth (not veneers), women not overly made up so that they're unrecognizable, and just healthy, beautiful, but natural looking people sharing their talent with the world? I miss people looking like people.
💯 👏🏻 😍
I absolutely love their "imperfect" teeth! ❤
Me to,very much so. So sad the way people are today! Horrible
Everyone goes too far and ends up looking too plastic.
Imagine a band.. that only writes hit songs.
@Michael H. Hey I'm a Beatles fan to !
ABBA
@Michael H. Yesss Beatles ❤️
Shawaddywaddy?
As I grew up I was constantly amazed that yet another classic had appeared . After a few years you knew it was just a dead cert
ABBA is my childhood❤
same here :) I heard them for the first time as a baby exactly 30 years ago, on my Mom's birthday :)
Damn, ABBA has no bad songs. This is one of my favorites (aren’t they all). Power Swedes! They are simply phenomenal. ❤️
That's correct. I have the discography and I believe as you stated that there is not one bad song at all.
I agree
The harmonies around 2:56 really hit me. Really beautiful.
I think this is one of their underrated songs. It showcases both girls brilliant voices and and is one of my favourite ABBA songs. Top stuff.
This song was a hit all over the world. Including the US. Not underrated. I agree with your other comment though 100%. :)
As some other commenter said, it seems too complex to have been a major hit. But it was.
And it is one of my favourite ABBA songs.
All four of them sing. But yes, the women have amazing voices, but all of them harmonize.
Just imagine.. lyrics, music, rythm, voices, melody, harmony, chorus all blended into one perfect package. Who says ABBA is just a world famous pop band? ABBA is the name of a musical genius of the calibre of a Mozart or a Beethoven of the modern era.
Agree!!!
yyy
Only music snobs would disagree I think. This music will always be listened to and loved.
No doubt of it.
Brilliantly said !!!!😇🥰🥰🥰❤
Fun fact: this was filmed in Björn and Agnethas home
I always wondered where this was filmed. I love the red checked curtains!
Wow
MASTERPIECE
Killer harmonizing between Frida and Agnetha, sends a shiver up my spine
They could sing it a capella . That's how good they are .
My mom sings this to us sometimes with my sister and I live it when they harmonize
Same
Both Anni-Frid and Agnetha are awesome singers. They have an almost perfect pitch and tune. It sounds like two angels.
I know! They both sound so good, amazing voices, and the when they sing together - wow!
Almost?🤦🏼♂️🖐🏼
Its 2021 and Im sooooooooooo addicted to this band all over again!! It must be the need for a past time when the world was so much better. These four made it that way and their music of course.
Exactly the same feeling. Greetings from Malta.
Instant obsession at 11 years old with Waterloo. Never looked back.
A time of innocence and true love
I'm addicted to meth
The world wasn't any better. You were just younger.
In addition to how both Agnetha / Bjorn and Benny / Frida are looking at each other with so much love, what makes this video all the more beautiful is the fact that Agnetha was pregnant with her daughter at the time!
Her daughter was 5 at this time. She was pregnant with her son
@@lounolastname4477 Whoops! Okay, thanks for the correction.
Metalheads, hard rockers, emos, progs... Everyone takes their hat off to ABBA.
You never doubted this band’s sincerity in either their voices or their videos. They were in their own class of music, lyrics and even tonal quality.
Tonal quality sure is a thing in their songs (':
How could her husband ever cheat on her. He had the most beautiful woman in the world. So sad... She was your wife. You were her heart.. Why, it wasn't worth it to you. I will never understand How you could do that to her. She is so beautiful. You are not. I don't understand what she ever saw in you. You broke her heart. I seriously dislike you. All of the artificial fame. You thought you could be with anyone. You are Right. So stupid of you. I hate what you did to her
What do you mean by were?
@@StevenMichaelYamnitz as in past tense, Sherlock.
For arrangement and interwoven melodic flow of voices and instruments, this is as good as it gets. Stupendous!
I may have commented on this before in the years I've listened to it. This masterpiece is my most listened to song ever. It has depth, heart breaking lyrics, remarkable arrangement and then the harmonies ... yes those harmonies, even Phil and Don would tip their hat to this
One of the most beautiful songs ever written in my humble opinion.
In 1977
Fantastic riffs and harmonies, they never fail to amaze me how talented they were, they deserve their place as the greatest pop band the world has seen.

Greatest "band"; ever.
Gosh Frida , this warm soft Voice and this beauty ; with Agnetha They sound like pure perfection

As far as I know, Agnetha has as many fans as Frida.
I love that echoey distant guitar that comes in sometimes. Just brilliant
Fridas smile at 2.22, I'm in love.
very subtle. very sexy.
You got me. Good spot :)
Happy new year mama🙏😘❤️
Damn im 67 just love this song even now.
I love this comment so much, greetings from Miami!

Sooooo talented so beautiful. There will never be a group LIKE ABBA ever again. Soo blessed to have been born when I was to have been "there" for ALL their hits❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Such a well written song. I love it.
Graduated from college in 1968! I’m 75 years old in 2021 and still listening to them! So excited they’re getting back together!
Probably my favorite ABBA gig. Got to love that harmony - those ladies had a blend that was tough to beat.
+Tommiegirl G I believe you mean impossible to beat. Together their voices were magic. I haven't heard anything equal to them since.
It's mine 😃
+Tommiegirl G It never WILL BE BEATEN !!
I'm not sure if this song even has a chorus as it is very complex but when Anni-Frid sings "Tell me please.." at 1:17, the song leaves the pop world and soars to another dimension.
She knew her power, too, sat among those trees.
Frida looks sensational in this video.

One of ABBA's more underrated songs.
Indeed, but my "number four" in my ABBA-Singlehit-topten.
Yes. It's now my new favorite ABBA song. Always liked them, but after watching a documentary on them last night I have "rediscovered" my love of their music - and this song in particular.
Nirvana Fan Of course, cause they has had many more better.Good, lovely, but Money(3),Gimme(2),Dancing Queen overshadows it.
This, Waterloo and SOS were the Apex of their talent.
Well, it was released as a single, and there's no such thing as an unsuccessful ABBA single, so better quit parroting cliché typical UA-cam "underrating" comments where it does not belong or apply, if you kindly will.
