Imperfect teeth, normal skin, beautiful feathered hair, realistic lyrics, natural voices, can anyone not understand why these 4 people were superstars? I love them. And always will.
You have the privilege to notice all those details now but back in 1970 nothing you are describing was actually important: teeth, skin, hair. back then there was no UA-cam or even a way people can replay this video.
pure talent
It's good to know there is one person on the planet who is perfect. Were they going to elect you god next week?
Точно так . Естественны и такие милые , обожаю ❤❤
Makes them more human and beautiful. Can't stand todays pop stars with perfect white teeth. Looks unnatural.
It’s absolute insane how good this is as a piece of music. Vocalization, harmonies, contrapuntal secondary vocals, instrumentation, arrangement, overdubbing and sound engineering - it’s all off the freaking charts. There’s no pop act or production team that could come close to producing a track this good nowadays.
Why can't you just praise the song without dissing an entire generation of talented artists? Good music is made yoday whether you like it or not.
@@amac203 Because I don’t agree with you and I meant exactly what I said. Let’s be clear, I didn’t grow up with ABBA, and I’m not boomer. Most of today’s popular music is objectively corporatized, subjectively simplistic, crap. That doesn’t mean there aren’t talented musicians out there, but the major labels and production teams are exceedingly risk averse, which leads to everything sounding the same.
You can pinpoint exactly when this became a problem: The 1996 telecommunications act, which deregulated broadcast markets in the US, allowing a small handful of large corporations to own multiple stations in the same market, across the US (previously, number of total stations owned and number of stations in a market were tightly regulated). In just 2 years, 6 decades of intense competition for market share was ended, as independent stations were bought up by large companies and the markets were segmented by demographic and music type.
This led to market conditions where independent artists, smaller labels, independent stations, etc., simply ceased to exist. Those were the mechanisms that allowed “breakthroughs” and really interesting changes in the pop landscape. Since the late 90’s, the industry has become increasingly ossified, with the same dynamics extended into the online music arena: just a few collusory monoliths controlling the vast quantity of promotional effort and top-tier access to distribution.
The entire major media complex is dealing with variations of the same theme: risk aversion, repetition, spectacle over substance and an objectively, and subjectively, measurable drop in quality. Much of this stems from too much control in the hands of a small number of giant (increasingly dysfunctional) corporations whose current business model is predicated on dictating what’s popular, versus innovation and discovery.
@@smakfu1375 You are saying that of all the people in the entire world who create and make pop music, none of them are any good. This is a completely ridiculous concept. And saying any kind of music is "objectively" crap is idiotic. The reason that corporates make music in a certain way is because that is what sells, i.e. millions of people out there LIKE it. That's why pop music changes and it does continuously change, it's because taste changes. It's been happening since the dawn of time and it will continue to happen. In 50 years people will be doing the same song and dance you are now, but about today's music.
But also, mainstream pop music is not the only music that is being made and to discount the talent of music producers who may not be part of a major label or continue to make music for the love of it is just laughable.
.
@@amac203 but nothing half as good as this.
@@amac203 none of them are even close to being as brilliant as the greats of the past, youre not get another abba for all the same reasons therell never be another clint eastwood or jack nicholson or mick jagger, coz thats how it is, the people of today arent the same, they may have a decent amount of talent, but they aint geniuses / they dont have it.

ABBA is the highest quality of pop music ever composed.
They are Beatles-quality-esque. But Beatles had a more levelled tracks IMO. Their numbers on their later albums all had a similar quality. Not one or two hits and the rest lesser quality. The only band that has managed that album after album.

I'm 61 in 2024, still love ABBA, and I always will as one of my all time favorite groups. My mom died on Thanksgiving Day last year from brain cancer, she was 80. ABBA was her favorite group, she was a huge fan of music like this. Now my Mom dances in Heaven as a Dancing Queen. So when I get to thinking about my Mom, missing her, I can go back in time and remember her by listening to ABBA. The hamonizing voices of these ladies still gives me goosebumps.
They complimented each other, like it was all meant to be. I wish they were still together. Their music will never end, ever.
Elise Walker 'complemented' actually. Common spelling mistake. Like 'stationary' and 'stationery'. I think Abba surprised even themselves. The two ladies were originally backing singers for Benny and Björn, in 1970. Apart from Agnetha, they were touching thirty-years-old when they sprung 'Waterloo' on the Anglosphere in '74. In those intervening years, their persistence ultimately paid dividends: how excited they must have been to figure out that although English was not their native language, they could still make a huge impact. They worked out their sound.
I think they’re reuniting in 2018 for a tour or concert with r something idk

Do they know how to write songs with such emotion, or what? Amazing ABBA. Like all beautiful songs, you wish this could last a few bars longer.
The sadness at fade is almost unbearable. Have to play it again and again. How few artists there are that one can say that about. This is true of songs written decades ago. You'll never hear this on the airwaves again. Something very much missing from songs and lyrics today.
So grateful that they did all these music videos. Back in the day, not every one makes them.
I thank Sweden for ABBA!
Benny and Bjorn don't get nearly enough credit for their role in ABBA's one of a kind sound. Their arrangements were god tier.
Tengo la impresión que Benny y Bjorn son los que se quedan con la tajada del león, 3:22
They also wrote everything, so like that's quite significant
Capital G for God
And also sang harmonies in most of the songs.
Benny Andersson and Björn Ulveus wrote everything.. they are not at all discredited worldwide!
What are you taking about?
My divorce was finalized 20 years ago, and I was SO glad about it, but every time I hear this song it makes me cry. No one intends to end up divorced, and Agnetha did an interview where she mentioned that both couples tried to make their divorces as painless as possible, but it just isn’t possible. Benny and Bjorn truly are two of the best writers this world has ever known.

How Bjorn's lyrics create the hopelessness of the situation in the first verse is brilliant. 'Walking through an empty house, tears in my eyes' is simple but right to the point and your heart...I get goosebumps every time. This is ABBA & pop music (all genres) at their very very best.

Thanks for putting this into words. I am not even an ABBA fan (more on the death metal side), but I love this song and this line always gets me for whatever reason.
Also, still trying to figure out why I like a song so much that is basically a display of sadness and loss.
For me, it's the verse: "In these all familiar rooms | Children would play ". Again, goosebumps.
And I don't even have children ;)
I read it as Bjork’s lyrics for one second ;)
It's interesting that I think it was Benny's piano that made most of the musical themes and Bjorn's lyrics added to that and of course the voices of Agnetha & Anni-Frid as the icing on the cake so to say but perhaps many people don't appreciate the input of Bjorn which I think was very important.

I wish you would bring glory to His name in worship with your beautifull voice. Please sing 'How great Thou art' for our Abba Father, He loves you so much and He is worthy of all praise.
Funny, I was a teen back in the 70's, and I think they're more popular now than then. They were so beautiful back then. Sweet harmonies.
Yes , Agnetha certainly was beautiful!
I’m 54 now 😂 and still listening to it.
I was just born in 68 😂 my sister in the 80’s was listening 👂 but g hit 😂
It's 'cause modern commercial music is homogenized garbage. We all know it, even our kids.
Edit: Not to be confused with Garbage, who are great.

I'm 72 and have been listening to ABBA since the beginning! I am always amazed at how their different songs seem to apply to my life throughout the decades and this song hit home with my divorce. Love ABBA!
¡Me too! I'm 72 now, and listening ABBA in my divorce and time after. They help me in my life ever. Excuse, english isn't my language.
I am listening ❤
Usia anda gak beda jauh saya juga senang dengar lagunya ABBA

I am listening to this in 2024 is there anyone else?
Can we agree that this is the best ABBA song?
I am listening for the umpteenth time to these ABBA songs from Nigeria. I will never get tired listening to them. I am in Nigeria relaxing,at almost 76years of age, looking back those good old days. Today is 18th Sept 2023. ABBA made our days as young students. ABBA still makes my day any day.
Thanks my friend. I'm listening this music in 2023 Abidjan Côte d'Ivoire

If new musics were like this, the world was better :P . If ABBA come back they would catch some top 10 and some hearts, just like mine
Reminds me of my teen years in the 70's, years later still one of my favorites.
