- The Corolla receives a special edition from Toyota for 2021. The Nightshade Edition brings a ton of extra style to the compact car class. On the outside you will find a unique front, gloss black wheels, and black accent trim. On the inside the touches are more subtle but include special stitched seats, 8in infotainment, and connectivity. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 that produces 169HP & is mated to a CVT transmission. Is the NEW 2021 Toyota Corolla Nightshade a better car than a Honda Civic?

Corollas are really reliable cars. My mom has a 2003 and has 288000 miles and still runs amazing
That is so awesome! Thanks for sharing that!
I owned that car too - very very nice for the price.
Your mom's Corolla has a conventional automatic transmission, that are often way more durable and reliable to the newer automatic CVT transmissions that Corolla now has.
My wife's 1995 Corolla had 364000 miles on it, sold it because she retired.
"ZONK!" has become part of my vocabulary, and it has caused chaos in my family. I love it. Keep up the great work. One of my favorite reviewers on the market!
"Pop" I watched to make sure he said pop, so pleased to hear 😁
"you could easily fit six Twinkies in there without bustin' cream" is easily one of the most hilarious things I've ever heard.
Thanks for letting me share the laughs and the cars with you!
Yes 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My wife had a 2015 and it drove really great. Great little cars in 6 years zero issues

Your channel provides a vast variety of cars to explore. Other channels don't offer as much as you do. And you know what your talking about and you get hyped about the vehicles. Keep up the good work! I love your channel! I think this car is a better version of the Hyundai Veloster imo.
I like that Raiti's Rides praises no engine covers and loud and proud on save the manual transmission.
Yes sir! That is how we do it!
Corolla most reliable car in history. Buy this and your car will serve you well . No problems 😊
If I buy this car, can you personally guarantee that I'll never have any problems with it?
@@ivanlowjones have u ever heard of Toyota Corolla under your rock?

Obviously, duh.
@@ivanlowjones Clearly your handle fits. We'll leave where to another duh, in most cases.
I vouch for Camry over Carolla all day. Close to 300k in my lightly modded '93 4cyl. DOHC vs SOHC for Corollas of the same era. Can't go wrong with Toyota though bottom line.
I love it! I will always love the history lesson at the beginning!
With a Tacoma lightyears away from my budget, last september, between a 21 mazda 3 and one of the 21 corolla nightshades, I went with the corolla. I really wanted a hatch, but I needed a car more than I needed the option to choose. I do have to say I like the look of the sedan quite a bit compared to most. I wasn't enthused by the CVT as opposed to mazda's automatic but I've driven from missouri to california, through various qualities of graded roads, rain, ice, snow, etc. For what the car was, it was all I needed plus a few little perks. I'd have liked a sun/moon roof, heated seats and fog lights, but for the price, the reliability, fuel economy and what else it offers, I am more than pleased. tinted the windows on mine, looks great with the white, may or may not upgrade audio. All I know is I will drive it until it blows up. Definitely recommend the car and I recommend shopping at Molle Toyota in KC, Missouri.
Always GREAT content that you constantly provide!!!....Kudos!!!
I am actually getting this car and this is going to be my first car 🥺
Good, you will love it
That shit looks disgusting love get the regular ones
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Me too!!!
Congrats Shorty! It will serve you well. A very reliable car with all the latest tech.
"Why have 8 inches, if you dont use it all?" lol!
You nailed it a previous comparo, Raiti. If you want a more aggressive performer, then it's Honda. If you want a slightly more dependable and softer performer, then it's the Corolla. I thought was a very profound comment then and now.
Thanks for taking the time to say that!
I love your videos so much thank you for the content
Very very beautiful design...love the night shade trim....
Love the flaired out fenders/wheel arches...
It’s actually not as bad as I thought initially… it’s the black that makes it attractive but how much is it is the real question?
The doc who delivered this guy got free car advice
I think the doc got zonked actually.
I RAN INTO YOU AT THE DAYTONA 24 HR RACE. THANKS FOR STOPPING AND TALKING WITH ME AND MY BROTHER. LOVE THE CHANNEL
Of course Hunter! You guys are great and I really appreciate the support!
I am such a huge fan of Raiti's Rides. If I'm not mistaken, Joe did a review on a car that didn't get one zonk. It made me want to buy the car, which would have been a financial disaster, considering I paid off my 17 accord V6 last week. The video is his review of the mazda 6 carbon edition
Thanks Paul for being so awesome!
Wonderful reviews!!! I purchased this car recently. Detailed, professional and entertaining reviews!!
Thanks for saying that and letting me share it with you!
@@RaitisRides keep up the the great work!!! Thank you!! I definitely agree with the key being a switchblade,Great observation!
Excellent review as always!
I'm sure I could take this to 400k miles with reasonable repair expenses.
And every 100k miles you’ll need a new cvt transmission...
@@beastbee0118 BS
@@beastbee0118 This CVT has a physical first gear which improves reliability and durability. This CVT is so good that it's used in the 2020 Lexus UX 200 as well. Drain and refill the CVT fluid every 40K miles and this car will last you forever.
@MAGA Corolla's CVT has a physical first gear which allows it to handle high torque without wearing out. Hyundai's CVT has no physical first gear so it's inferior.
@MAGA you’re responses are stupid, are you an idiot by choice?
Toyota Corolla: Reliable, but boring
Honda Civic: Reliable and fun!
I couldn't tell the difference really.
Nowadays, Toyota’s are more reliable than Honda = less repair costs!
Great video my friend. I really love the Night Shade Hatchback in silver. Once the gas prices reach $5 again, I'll probably snag one for my daily.
Thanks Scooter! You are so very right!
Gas prices are going to skyrocket over the next 4 years.
Same here but for the whole week not just daily
I love it my bro keep up the work and I love the video 💯 fun 😀 🙌
You got it Dominic!
I love it this Nightshade edition Grey and Black, Please make more of them.
I like it but it needs a full sun roof but it's still a sweet deal,,thanks for posting friend.
I have this car. Mine is 2 tone color black on the top the roof and grey like that all round. I have NEVER seen another SE like mine prove me wrong.
That is really cool!
Absolutely Great Video. ☺
Keep up the good work! Because of your detailed review, I purchased the new avalon!
The headlights look great... Actually the whole front end
Nah the exterior sucks is my opinion
Nah I prefer the back side over the front side
@@farisadam6646 I agree, I would rather an older Corolla
@@farisadam6646 I agree. Toyota be doing too much with their designs
Yes the whole car looks very sexy and aggressive, best looking Toyota sedan.
When i bought mine they had a white nightshade edition i regret not choosing that one🥲
The white looks nice
yea i agree, the white night shade or even the black look much better than the silver imo.
Oh yes way to go man this is a real car 🙏
Just bought one today. I agree the cvt is different and a little wonky but for my first purchase I’m extremely happy with the purchase.
Alan Smithee. My 17 accord is the automatic black on black V6 touring version. There should be a discussion somewhere on the ninth generation accords. So I worked for four and a half years to pay off my car and it got paid off last week. To celebrate, I binged on car videos and found myself wanting to buy another car for the fun of it. The K 5 and mazda 6 carbon edition really got me going. Another vlogger talked me out of it and that's what I like so much about guys like Joe Raiti. They throw in the financial aspect. I stand corrected: The mazda 6 carbon edition got two zonks, but that was on chrome issues. I know the manual on the accord is in high demand. I hope you got this comment Alan. Sincerely.
Good job Joe and Lori...👏👏
Thanks for your great support!
I like it Joe but for me I still prefer the Civic. Now maybe that will change when Honda comes out with the new 11th generation because at this point I really am not liking what I have seen so far. As usual a great video. Take care and enjoy the ride.
Can’t wait to see 2022!
AGREED!
4:00 Bro every manufacturer were pushing out silver wheels and everyone hated it and wanted black. Now every manufacturer is pushing black wheels and everyone hates it wants it to be different. Nobody can ever be happy lol
Tell me about it! We always want what we don't have.
Corolla looking good these days. Can't wait for a GR version!
Same here!
Hopefully it's GRMN, but I doubt it will be for the sedan. Just the hatchback version.
Good little entry level car. I think the Honda Civic or Mazda 3 is a little better. Thanks for sharing it Joe. Nice review! Lori rocks! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
This car went down that Civic path where it looks like a kid ordered all these after market trim pieces and went to town blackening things out etc. You'll need a winter wheel package for sure and better not hit any pot holes with those ultra low profile tires. I'll go for ride comfort and quiet and get a Camry myself.
It's looking good Joe - stay 💪
YEAH make that 1/8 rear panel glass instead of plastic. That will really improve the view!

Thank you for letting me share it with you Brenda!
Raiti's Rides I appreciate you for uploading this and I have a suggestion for you for your subscribers to grow even further. Can you also please review the base models for cars like these because that's where most average Joe can get like LE trim as an example
I disagree. Most viewers wouldn’t want to watch an overview of a base model carrolla. This edition however caught my eye and I was interested in hearing about it. If someone is in the market for a car, seeing an overview of the same car with a mostly cosmetic package, still gives that viewer an overall feel of the car.
One never knows; Joe likes to bring reviews of as many trim levels as possible, so you get a better view of a model's lineup. There may very well be someone that is looking for an entry level for, say, a teenager who has exceptional grades, but there's no way you want them in a BMW...
@@PeeWee_Herman the reason why I asked is because he did basic honda civic for 2020 if you look through his videos. Thats how he gained me as a subscriber. Most youtubers go for higher trims which it may be out of reach for most people. As a Canadian, there are other fellow Canadians that also watch his reviews and the trim levels may be the same but they offer more goodies than what Americans get as far as features too and for some people that's how they make an informed decision when purchasing the next car. I got my 2020 corolla LE and it was thanks to him after he reviewed the civic lx for 2020.
@@adama047 its not just about teenagers unless the parents are rich. After all as a Canadian I do enjoy his content and so does majority of fellow Canadians who watch his reviews. We may have same trim levels but with different features that we Canadians get compared to Americans.

I am excited for the GR edition. The Corolla is a great little car and hard to zonk even with the CVT. At 7.3 seconds to 60 that’s damn good compared with the earlier generations of the Corolla. This car and the Honda Civic are two of the greatest values in this the industry. 😃
You can thank the fixed gear this CVT has.

Beautiful looking car. Front face design is perfection. Headlights awesome, grille excellent and not a smiley face.
Looks really nice I have it in black it’s very nice
I put gloss black door pillars on my Scion Xa before and it made it look a little more sporty. Toyota should have made it gloss black door pillars all the way around to make it look more sporty. It would have looked way nice with gloss black window trims too. The black plastic and rubber window trims always fade out after a while with age.

Joe, another great review!!! I have an observation, I agree with you always zonking fake vents, here’s my dilemma. Would it be a tremendous feat of engineering to just open the back and make it a REAL vent????? What am I missing Joe??? The car engineers could go to the orange box store and pick up a $75.00 drill and make it a real vent??? I’m baffled, maybe someone could answer that burning question so I can sleep at night, thanks
I guess it comes down to not just having air flow through buy where is that air going?

"Why have 8 inches if you're not going to use 8 inches?"
Question Joe heard from Lori???🤔 LOL
Negative ghost rider!
Toyota has it spot on for this price range
Great looking car, just needs a bit more power. Even 200hp and at least 180lb feet of torque would spice things up. Worried the gr Carolla will be super expensive as the apex version is a bit pricey.
toyota offers some little upgrades like air filters and such to add a tiny but more horsepower, but this car is meant to be reliable and fuel economy... more power would kind of ruin the point of the car
@Louis Louis you can still have a bit of pep and have good gas mileage.
Ok this is very small but why do cars have to have such a turn signal click like why can’t they just be silent
I agree I strongly dislike a loud turn signal

BIG Zonk for not having a sunroof...
That is a very good point!
How is the drive on the SE Nightshade compared to the XSE Apex going over tiny bumps and pebbles on the road? Ik the springs on the Apex are stiffer which might make the ride harsh.
Get the SE....Apex is a waste of money and unacceptable harsh ride

Hi Joe, great review as always - my only complaint about the Corolla is that the driving position feels cramped for a big guy like myself - I'm 6ft. 3in and almost 300 lbs. and barely fit behind the wheel in my dad's 2015 Corolla. Does this newer generation feel like it has more room behind the wheel in your opinion?
It does have room im 6ft myself and the steering can be moved Forward or backwards.
Yes it does 100%
Agreed!
I’m 6’7 and it feels ok. No complaint so far
Last week, my local dealer had a Corolla Nightshade in all black. I have to say it looked really great. I wish you could get more options tho. This same dealer...perhaps the largest in Illinois...is virtually out of cars now....for all models except Venzas. No new Corollas at all.
They need to update the camrys interior.
