    When I cut something with a frame around a lot of detail like a stencil... I make sure the frame is the last item to cut. I close the eye so it does not see it. Then I cut the inside pieces. I then open the eye for the frame and close the eyes for all other pieces. I resend and finish cutting only the frame this time around. It is a extra step but takes care of the problem if the frame cuts first and comes loose from the mat.

      Hi Debbie, thanks for your tip. I've got a DX125 & new to it. You mentioned closing the Eye on & off, can you please explain how to do this & where I can find the eye please? I'd like to have the frame cut last to save a lot of frustration.
      Thank you in advance 😊

      . I was not really thinking when I wrote that. It do more than one step and it involves another program called make the cut. I scan image with my scan and cut and then send image to my computer. I open image In the make the cut program I split the pattern into 2 pieces in that program and then i send it back to brother scan and cut an svg.. Then in the scan and cut program I can resend the pattern in 2 pieces. Cutting one at a time. If you enjoy designing SVG's Make the cut is a wonderful program as the brother scan and cut program lacks in being able to design svgs.
      However if I don't feel like going thru the hassle of redesigning a pattern into multiple cuts I use a temp light holding spray that works wonders to stop paper from coming loose. The one I use is called pixie spray. It works great for a temporary hold so nothing shifts on the mat and leaves no sticky residue.
      Also I have the sdx125 so i am not sure the difference in the 2 machines and what the older one is capable of doing. But if you are interested in designing svgs at all make the cut while it is a older program it is a wonderful program. It is the program that came with my original cutter my knk zing which was a great cutter but i replaced cause i wanted to be able to scan. . It is a program that is stand alone to design svgs it also allows you to print from also. Unlike brother that makes you pay for a program so you can print. I print what I want from this program then send the svg to brother program to cut image. It also makes rhinestone patterns. It can do most things that brother charges you extra for for their add on programs and last I knew it cost about the same as just one of brothers add on programs but you get so much with make the cut. Hope I did not confuse you to much.

    I found a way to fix this, by lots of trials. that when I design on Canvas, I don't put the square on. Its the fact that it cuts the square edge first, when it cuts last there is no problem. tysmfs awesome info

    I have hundreds of Cricut Cartridges & I'm cutting out everything on each one using my Cricut Expression and scanning them into my SNC2 & then into my lap top.
    I'm doing the same thing with all my dies, etc for my Big Shot.

    Can you cut the design first...then go back and cut the outline? Would that help keep it in place. There very nice.

    Hi 😊 I have a few questions, when you have scanned the image, can you cut it in a bigger or smaller size? And how do you clean the sticky mat, and keep it sticky? Kind regards Ea

    Thank you for showing us how to do this. I have been wanting to do this for some time now. Have you ever designed your own cover plate dies in canvas workspace?

    • @WhimsicalCardStudio
      @WhimsicalCardStudio  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you Jackie - I have been attempting to create my own SVG files for coverplates but it takes a lot of time and patience. Maybe someday I'll be happy with one of my experiements

    Could you have used contact paper instead of expensive label paper? Contact paper has enough tack to it that you should have been able to get your paper up without much issue.

    • @WhimsicalCardStudio
      @WhimsicalCardStudio  5 років тому

      I simply used what I already had. I believe you are correct that contact paper would likely work too although I didn't try it myself. thanks for watching.

    Fun - another way to use a stencil, thanks. Also, to make your ScanNCut mat sticky again, search UA-cam to find out how to restick it using a window cleaner product such as Windex and a Zig 2 way Glue Stick.

    Thats all well and good BUT, unless the company who produces the stencil (the copywrite owner) says you can make a derivative work from their stencil (ie use it to make something it was not intended to do, like make a die cut from it), which they rarely permit, then you are in breach of their copyright and they can sue you.

      Yes and same for dies, there are a few companies that do allow it but not many

    If you wash your mat with hot soapy water then coat with a thin layer of Tombow Multi glue (green lid), your paper won't shift

    • @WhimsicalCardStudio
      @WhimsicalCardStudio  5 років тому

      So you can save them & cut them with your SNC. Best part is you can resize them once saved, which you cannot do with the stencil alone

    Too bad the machine cut the outer border first. If that had been last there would not have been so many starts and stops
