Hi Nichol! A trick that works well for me when the mat loses stickiness, is to spray the back of the stamped card stock with a low tack removable spray like Pixie Spray or Aleene’s Repositionable Tacky Spray. Both work well! Hope this helps! 🥰
Great video. I bought my Scan n cut maybe 3 years ago. Didn’t use it for almost a year. 🤦🏻♀️ Then tried it, forgot how to use it. 😂 A few months ago, I tried it again. It’s a wonderful addition to my craft room! Easy to use when you follow the directions. It is well worth the investment.
I have an older Brother Scan N Cut 2 and it is very handy when you don't have dies. Years ago matching dies were not a thing. Now they are common but an extra expense. By investing once you can cut out most stamped images. And it is great for when you are mass producing something. You can cut a bunch out all at once. You're one of the few that mentions you use it occasionally. During Stamptember is the perfect time to use it when the dies have sold out. Or like you, when you aren't sent the dies. I liked this video.
On a separate note, I hope Brother makes a travel-sized Scan & Cut in the future. Taking mine to a crop is hard being that it's so big and takes up a lot of space in my limited area. A machine half the size would be so great!
I have had a Scan n Cut for a few years, but don't use it much as I am intimidated by all the instructions. Your videos are so helpful when you use your machine! Thanks for giving me the courage to jump back in to using it! And another cute card too!!
I just asked myself this same question the other day and I was planning to try this kind of cut shortly 😅. Thank you so much for saving me the work ! I love my Scan&cut more everyday. Of course, the dies are necessary for some special designs (f.e. partial die cutting), but most of the time I can save the money of the dies matching my stamps. And as I have a very tight budget, the purchase of my Scan&cut is one of the best investment I've ever done.
TRULY !!! I wish someone would come up with a card / frame we could mount over the buttons that would inform us as to E X A C T L Y what the lil demons DO !!! Then M A Y B E I'd dust mine off & play with it!
I used my Scan n cut last night to cut a total of 72 in different colors of the sweater from the TH Stamptember set. Die cutting each one separately would have taken forever.
I got a new Scan and Cut in January and I LOVE IT!!! I’ve watched many tutorials on UA-cam since then and I’ve learned so much. It can definitely do a lot more than just cut out stamped images. Thanks for showing us how to cut images that don’t connect. VERY HELPFUL. TFS
QUESTIONS, Please: (( I HOPE you check back on the comments of your older videos ...)) I notice ever so slight "hang nails" on a couple of the cuts; places where the cut is slightly less than smooth. Would changing the blade have eliminated that? And, too, how often do you need to change blades. Thank you EVER SO MUCH for presenting this vid, and whatever help you provide with these questions.
Hi! Thank you for the tutorial! I learned something new about the machine and a new technique for cutting out stamped images. I never knew that there was carrier sheet holder in the back of the machine. lol.
Hi Nicole. For many stamps, I’d buy the dies. Then in one of your videos you used the ScanNCut. I stopped STRESSING to buy or (even) when I miss out on procuring the dies. Now I can buy TWICE the amount of stamps. 😅
I put green painters tape on the corners of my card stock when using the scan and cut. The paper does not shift and you can use the expensive mat a whole lot longer.
I don't use my Scan N Cut nearly enough. It is an amazing machine. Saves a lot of money buying matching dies. I knew about this pencil trick, glad you ahred it.
I’m so glad you made this video. I’ve been trying to decide if I should get a scan n cut. I’m a visual learner and have trouble reading directions especially with tech lol! That was a real quick tutorial. Thank you so much for putting out the best videos! ❤️
Thank you, Nicole, this video was so very helpful!! I bought my machine back in the summer when Urban Outfitters had one of the higher models on sale super cheap. I’ve been waiting to use it with my Christmas cards and am excited to be able to cut images that aren’t connected…like flowers. You will never know how much I appreciate you taking the time to make this video because I know you are a busy woman. You made it so easy to understand.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have had a brother scan-n-cut for over a year now and have not taken the time to learn how to use it. After watching this video, I might give it a try. Would love to see more videos for this machine. This was so very helpful.
I have the same Brother Scan and Cut as Nichol! There are so many videos online on how to use it. I use it to stamp many images at a time. If the mat is not sticky someone mentioned to put tape on the edges. I tried it and it works great. Like Nichol said hold the paper lightly, and stay with it, don't walk away. It is a time saver and cuts multiple images really well. Play with it, get used to using it. Thanks for the video Nichol it was great! The pencil tip to connect the image is an excellent tip. Look at all images and see if they connect. Enjoy!
Thank you so much for making this video Nichol it helps so much. SNC has been such a hot topic these past 2 Stamptembers and am glad this is an option to metal die cutting and no more cussy cutting will be needed 😉
Awesome video, I’m a newbie Scan n Cut owner and appreciate any tips regarding the machine and crafting. Any ideas about uses for this machine you want to share are so appreciated and helpful! Just realized you do have a playlist with a video and I’ll be checking that out too!
Nichol, Thanks so much for making this video. I was also thinking about a Scan n Cut, mainly to eliminate buying dies to match my stamps and also didn’t know which one to buy. It was also helpful to hear from everyone about the experience with this machine.
I love my scan n cut for cutting stamped images. Being a Silhouette girl through and through, their scanning is irritating. I bought the SCN2 years ago to save money on dies. The SNC mat does not have much stick which is a pain. I do move my paper around on the mat and also use painter tape to hold i n place. A tip is to use a bit bigger piece of paper and don't stamp as close to the edge. Then you can easily crop out all the little pieces that come up on the full mat. Also sometimes you need to recalibrate the machine so you have even borders. I need to learn to scan stamps that have internal pieces that need cutting...one of these days! Thanks for the great video!
Great demo. I purchased the Cruicut but then sent it back as too much work and didn't get what was promised with it. Still manual die and "cussy" cutting . Thanks for this video.
Great video. Very helpful. P.S. I use LA's Totally Awesome cleaner to clean my mats. Works great. Even brings back most of the stickiness. When deleting a lot of the items you can select all the items and page through them deleting as you go. Maybe that's what you meant by use the arrows? Would save a lot of tapping.
Thank you so much Nichol I have a brothers scan n cut but have been so intimidated to use it. It just sits on my counter. Another video? Yes I would love it. Thank you 💕
I have had two different SNC's.I orginaially bought one because the Cricut did not Print then Cut, many years ago. I also mainly use it to make rhinestone projects because Cricut doesn't do rhinestone templates. Currently have the SDX125 and I initially upgraded to it so that I wouldn't have buy every dies for every stamp. Well good idea but I still buy every die for every stamp. I don't use it much,
Thank you for sharing these great tips! I’ve watched several videos after learning about the Brother Scan & Cut through you and no one mentioned deleting the unwanted debris the way you just showed. The other videos used the size ignore feature and that did not the way I needed it to a lot of the time.
Excellent video. This certainly makes me want one. I tend to shy away from stamp sets that don't have the matching dies. They are definitely and extra added expense and the price of dies has gone WAY up. Thank you for the video.
Wow, this was great to watch, thank you! I have the first Scan & Cut version and I'm not sure I can do this but I'm going to find out! The newer S&Cs can do more than mine but I still love mine :)
buy some transparent circuit mats and stick them ontop of the brother mat, they are much cheaper and have better stick. make sure the edge goes right up theregistration marks so the machine knows the matt is extra thick.
I have one and love it for this too. I’ve never done the pencil lines, so I have been disappointed in that. Now that I know that, I’m sure it will do excellent on those too. Have you tried cutting out sentiments? I wondered how it would do on stamped sentiments. I’ve not had a chance to just play with it much. But it has saved me a ton in buying all those dies. I do add some scotch tape on the corners of what I’m cutting so I don’t have to hold the paper. Just tighten your borders so they are not in your cut sight. It’s saved me some time and frustration for sure. Thanks Nichol!

Thank you for this video, I have a silhouette but it’s old, bought it in 2013, I have been looking at the Brother scan and cut. Now a new silhouette has come out. Which machine would you recommend as you have both. Thanks 😊
Hi, I was wondering if you have to use that small screen on the machine to do the editing of the images after it scans it. Or can you maybe use an app to do that? The screen would definitely be too small for me to see.

I am still waiting on one of these companies to invent my perfect machine. Nichol, I’ve had a Silhouette Cameo since 2011 and only did the introductory lesson I think because I don’t use computer programs a lot and was intimidated. I just bought a used Scan-N-Cut CM350 and have been watching videos. I think it’s going to be what I will use and thought I might just sell the Silhouette. Is there any reason you keep both?
I am not sure every S N C has this function but at the start you can change the setting to colour and up the saturation - colour was hit and miss for me until i found this function. My scan n cut is buried under so much other craft stuff at the moment so i cant get it out to confirm the steps. I hate 'cussy cutting' but until i rearrange things in my bedroom where i mostly craft my SNC will have to stay buried.
I have a scan n cut with a small screen and I hate it. I didn't realize they had different size screens. So now I am trying to figure out how to do everything from my computer. :(
Purchase Cricut mats for less than $8 for two. Cut out the 12 x 12 of your well-loved, no longer sticky Brother Scan mat, just inside of the lines on your mat. Trim the Cricut mat in just the 12 x 12 area. From the back, line up the cricut 12 x 12 and tape it to inside the frame you created by cutting your BSC…using clearing packing tape. The tape should not extend into any area that the side rollers pull into the machine and you don’t want any of the clear tape to fold over to the front of the mat. Clear as mud? Look for BSC hacks.
are there any troubleshoot solutions to scanNcut problems like the corners not cutting properly? mine couldn't cut corners and just make it rounded instead which totally looks way off especially when I put borders in
I would do a search here on UA-cam. I don't have any tips for that but I know that many viewers have told me that there are a lot of Scan 'n Cut channels with a lot of great tips!
Encouraging you to get it out and play/practice. A SU demonstrator (Papered Chef) and Julie Fei-Fan Balzer (I think she is a Brother representative) are great teachers, too.
I cannot get my brand new machine to cut properly. It tears the paper when cutting and tears when I try to remove the paper from the mat. SO ANNOYING! Any tips for me?
Are you using the paper on the standard mat, if so it might be really sticky. I don’t see why it will also tear when cutting, that has never happened to me.
I've got a Scan N Cut but I must say I find it very difficult to understand and use. There isn't much about it that's intuitive and the instructions are just about non-existent. I'll keep trying but for the most part what I've gotten from it is frustration.
Encouraging you to get it out and play/practice. A SU demonstrator (Papered Chef) and Julie Fei-Fan Balzer (I think she is a Brother representative) are great teachers, too. I made myself some cheat-sheets (buttons/what they do, etc.). You'll be a great success in no time -- have fun.

I saw one UA-camr using Scotch Magic Tape. She said she just does that all the time and it works great.

Hi Nichol. With my Cricut mats, I just wipe them down with a baby wipe and let dry. Then stickiness appears again 😆 and they’re clean.
TFS

Thanks so much Nichol for making this video!!! I’ve been considering buying a scan and cut and this video was very helpful!

Great video. Thank you for sharing and showing how to do.
It was great to see in action. I keep meaning to research but was overwhelmed trying to figure out the models etc. This was really helpful. Thank you.

Thanks for the informative video. Would love more showing Scan n cut.
Good Morning I am so glad I found this decision is made scan cut for me 💐💜 and I’m a long time fan
Thank you for following along!
Lovely demo, love my scan n cut xx
I have one and love it for this too. I’ve never done the pencil lines, so I have been disappointed in that. Now that I know that, I’m sure it will do excellent on those too. Have you tried cutting out sentiments? I wondered how it would do on stamped sentiments. I’ve not had a chance to just play with it much. But it has saved me a ton in buying all those dies. I do add some scotch tape on the corners of what I’m cutting so I don’t have to hold the paper. Just tighten your borders so they are not in your cut sight. It’s saved me some time and frustration for sure. Thanks Nichol!
With sentiments you “draw” the outline for it so the machine scans the outline and cuts it as such.
Awesome! Thanks for everything you share. I would love to see more scan n cut videos.
Love my Scan n Cut!
Very interesting and amazing! So this machine scan & cut many as you want and make cards! Instead of using cutting machine (Spellbinders).
Thank you for sharing! 🫶🏼☺️
Thank you so much! I was hoping you would do some basic scan and cut and would welcome more !
I have a Gemini and cricut but this machine looks great! Great tutorial
Thanks so much!
Play with the ignore object feature, smaller non cut pieces will be ignored. Great video
I watch the papered chefs videos on UA-cam for scan and cut, she’s like the scan and cut whisperer. Papered chef, not pampered chef. One of the things she mentions is that when you scan in, turn the overhead light off during scan process, because the light interferes with the image. You can turn overhead light back on after initial scan is over. Does make for a better scan. Check her out!
Thank you!! Very helpful!!!
Thanks for this video. I’ve been considering a scan n cut for awhile and you made it look pretty easy. If you have more videos on it I’d love to have the links.
Hey Nichol I love that you showed this, you are always bringing all the tips.
So I remember you mentioned during the stamptember videos that the look you will get won’t be as the die cuts, and you are correct but I also think your machine isn’t calibrated right.
I noticed on the close up that on some places the white border is thicker and in some other skinnier. That has to do with calibration, I may be wrong but mine was doing the same before I calibrated, and the last set of stamps I cut with it, the white border was the same on all sides.
You can access the calibration set up on the main screen with the wrench bottom right icon and then “scanning/cutting position adjustment” you just need a white paper. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for this video. I have not used my scan n cut yet. You make it look easy to use so I will try it this week! Again, thanks for doing this video! seeing this video

Thank you for this video, I have a silhouette but it’s old, bought it in 2013, I have been looking at the Brother scan and cut. Now a new silhouette has come out. Which machine would you recommend as you have both. Thanks 😊
More scan n cut! ❤
Thank you
Definitely I have to sit by machines as well. Don’t know how but I swear they know if I walk/turn away and act up…..LOL
Thank you 👏👏👏
Hi, I was wondering if you have to use that small screen on the machine to do the editing of the images after it scans it. Or can you maybe use an app to do that? The screen would definitely be too small for me to see.
I use blue painters tape when my sheet is not as sticky as I would like
Dear teacher and my friend, pls advise me what is more benefits between PrintNCut , Sihoulette cameo, and vevor? What is the best one for money saving and multi funtions ( print, scan, cut) for easy using, no programed requested. Is it able to make the plastic decal ( transfer image)?. Thanks you for your input
I'm curious - you mentioned a Silhouette machine too. Do you still use that, or have you gone exclusively to the Scan 'n Cut?
I am still waiting on one of these companies to invent my perfect machine. Smaller size with A4/letter mat, Scan and cut, print and cut, app/pc based operation, design software that lets you draw and erase with a stylus and pen/foil options that let you select single line for all fonts instead of only skinny writing fonts. I wonder if Brother has come kind of copywrite on scan and cut machines, I am surprised no one else has included scanning.
How do you cut blank shapes if you want to stack the dies for dimension?
Nichol, I’ve had a Silhouette Cameo since 2011 and only did the introductory lesson I think because I don’t use computer programs a lot and was intimidated. I just bought a used Scan-N-Cut CM350 and have been watching videos. I think it’s going to be what I will use and thought I might just sell the Silhouette. Is there any reason you keep both?
I haven't used my Silhouette in probably 4 years so, IMO, no you probably don't need both. :) HTH!
So would you say this printer is not very good at cutting without having the white outline? I want to print stickers that don't have any outline.
I am not sure every S N C has this function but at the start you can change the setting to colour and up the saturation - colour was hit and miss for me until i found this function. My scan n cut is buried under so much other craft stuff at the moment so i cant get it out to confirm the steps.
@@rojoycanela yes, standard mat. I've tried to "de-stick" a bit, but still tears.

I've got a Scan N Cut but I must say I find it very difficult to understand and use. There isn't much about it that's intuitive and the instructions are just about non-existent. I'll keep trying but for the most part what I've gotten from it is frustration.

You can use low tack tape to secure Cardstock to carrier sheet.
Thank you
