  • Although the content is nothing unusual for me, how the video evolved certainly is. The original working title was "Anger", as I lashed out at whoever destroyed the trees around one of my favorite public campsites. The result was very unsettling, and at the midnight hour (literally) I completely changed the tone through editing. I feel at lot better with the results! From my series on Northwest Canada travels. No voice-overs or added music, and all background sounds are exactly as recorded.

I feel I'm to old to travel, 71, the last time I went anywhere was before my wife died back in 2006. Back before I married her I had 'pipe dreams' of getting a old school bus and fixing it up to just travel. That never happened. Now my body is telling me why it wasn't the best idea to work at a place 40 years with cement floors, so even walking now is sometimes a challenge for me.
That is why I enjoy 'riding along' with Slim and his camera. @Slim, so thank you for taking us along, I'm able to see places and sights that I would never see, thank you.

Oh man don't say you are too old! 75 next birthday and this winter will be my 2nd in my camper with my little pup out in the desert. Last year before I started this I was really scared about being too old to do this. Thing is you better do it now, we are not getting any younger, looking forward to doing this as long as I am physically able and can remember where I'm heading too, lol.

@@terrybrowning3542 What I didn't put in there, Besides having trouble sometimes walking, most of it is from bad knees, both, it hurts like a knife if I try to kneel, if that wasn't enough, bad shoulders, trying to life even 40 pounds just using my shoulders, I can't, again to much pain. Said all that to say this, for me, I'm to old to do something like this. I'll enjoy Slims videos.

N8pu, it is not the number of years that prevents you from creating adventures, it is how you treated your body. I am 75 & can do most of what I did at 40 or 50, only shorter & not as fast......keep that in mind for next time, if you believe in re incarnation....God Bless

@@terrybrowning3542 Totally agree - I am a couple of months short of 69, with some health issues, but my dreams of traveling the world solo are what keep me going. Worked outdoors as a wildlife biologist most of my life, often alone in remote areas, and that is when I am happiest. Keep it simple, and keep going - it's the journey that is important, no matter how far or how long it takes. To be alive is to be in motion and change. Best wishes to you and your pup from Alaska.

@@dave_n8pu I have very bad knees and shoulders, too - really helped by cutting almost all carbohydrates out of diet (cause joint inflammation). Check out ketogenic diet: high fat, moderate protein, very low carbs - think steak and eggs, but no ice cream, bread, cookies, chips. I'll bet you will be pleasantly surprised at how quickly that joint pain will subside - not disappear - will still hurt some to lift above shoulders and kneel on something hard, but won't hurt at night or when getting up from chair, climbing stairs, etc.

Even though I don't practice vegetarianism, your culinary selections and preparations aren't boring. But man, there’s just something about travelling all alone that relaxes me and just charges my batteries. Like you said, indulging my whims and focusing on my surroundings, being self reliant and independent. And I truly enjoy a great conversation, but I love silence.travelling alone isn’t isn’t something we do because we couldn’t find anyone to go with, it’s a treat in itself. That big machinery that you found in the woods?
I can only think it's one of 2 things. potentially a printing press or a stamping machine of some kind for parts..
As for pets? dogs in particular? I've got my little one here right behind me with his tennis ball.
I've had him since he was 6 weeks old and he's between 17 and 20 now.
due to my bad memory because I can't remember the year we got him. 🤷🤦
I've had several dogs in my life and it takes a little piece of your soul every time one passes away.
so I can understand with the limitations you are working with why you wouldn't bother having a pet at this time.
I'm one of those folks that need to be needed and I'll tell you what, there are days I wouldn't get out of bed if it weren't for my furkid needing me to take care of him.
My kids are grown & I'm a grandmother.
I love my fur kids but I don't diss people who don't or don't want to have another one.
    my sister's that way.
she never had children so that when she got her little puppy dog, she became her child.
The sweet pupper was a purebred and she came down with some of the genetic problems that purebreds have and she had to be put down.
my sister won't ever have another dog, it hurt her too much.

Then back down the spine of B.C. then home just staying north of the border. 5 weeks and 16000 kms all in a 1997 mustang convertible. I still can hardly believe all the wonderful things I saw. The trip of a lifetime for anyone who is able to repeat it in the future.

Slim, thanks for taking us along on this journey to all parts of Canada and, especially, the Yukon; it's been a stunning trip! I was really taken by the scenery reflected in the lake; so truly amazing. You are smart to head out before the risk of "black ice" is to much of a possibility -- that is TERRIBLE stuff!
Y'all Be Safe (can't wait for more of your adventures).

The whole area is beautiful, and you are a beautiful soul within it as well. I have no idea what that machine is, although I am sure someone in the comment section will know. Too many people on UA-cam think you have to have a dog to survive, and many copy others, I see it with survivalist video's all the time. Truth is, a dog is a huge responsibility just like you said, and yes, they do always get in the way when your trying to film wildlife. And if you don't have them on a leash, they also get in the way when your trying to work. Your living the life of freedom, and that is something that I wish more people got the chance to do. Great video as always Slim!

I speculate that historically people were more nomadic than history leads us to believe. It makes me sad to know how fast those wild places are going. Of my favorite UA-camrs, I think you are #2 on my list of the freest people I know of. Hopefully soon I'll be #1 on that list. Thanks for sharing your journeys. They keep me inspired and motivated to keep pursuing my dreams.

Totally agree. The evidence indicates to me that humans have always been more mobile than what we're taught. It's not that a lot of people didn't stay put - it's that a lot of people didn't.

What a great series. Thank you Slim. There is something sad about when you have to head back on home. But, that trio, in itself is an adventure too. So the fund not over yet. Live the Artic. Been there myself back in the 80s mlm. Loved it. Except where you experienced it by land, I experienced in by water. There were spots where we dropped anchor only 10 feet or so from land and the water was 300 feet deep. Have fun, stay safe and stay healthy. 🙂

Great series! We have a dog, but do not travel with him for the reasons you stated - so it adds extra cost to our vacation expenses to provide for his care while we're gone. I appreciate the natural sounds of this log. So many travelers add annoying click/snap music to nature scenes, which is totally out of place.

I so agree. I just quit watching another video in the middle of it because she had to inject her own music tastes into it and it was totally jarring. Without the music I likely would have finished the video. Gave her another chance with a second one - same problem so I bailed.

Hello Slim. Greetings from Mossburn, New Zealand. My husband and I have always wanted to visit Canada, ever since we were young and spritely but there is no chance in the near future for us travelling anywhere but watching your adventures are almost as good. We're very fortunate to live in a location very much like Canada, snow-capped mountains, crystal clear rivers and alpine lakes, pristine forests and a wonderful lifestyle because of it. You have made such compelling, informative and beautiful films, you're wonderful to listen to and we appreciate all the work it takes to produce your channel.
    Good on ya mate! 👍

Even though I could never, ever, be without my beloved dogs, I truly respect and am happy to see you recognize that about yourself regarding dogs. Too many people don't. Life has to revolve around our animals, which we love, but it is not for everyone. Doesn't mean you don't like dogs, just means you know it is not for you.

Agree, and thx for confirmations...love to have a dog but agree 100% with u!! I too enjoy hiking not having to contend with a lease nor putting a dog on a lease in nature! Goes both ways?!
Traveling by oneself is awesome! U do get to meet many on the way and u can go your own way...drama free!!!
