    They need to have a zoom screen for DI that you don't have to stop and zoom in.I would like to see a video on using it to find shell beds.

    I had BPS install a Gen 1 Helix 9 DI GPS on the bow and a Helix 9 SI GPS G2N on my tracker. But I had all sorts of interference issues that made the graphs near unusable. They tried to fix it and claim they got rid of all the interference but they didn't fix anything. Luckily I contacted corporate customer service and got them to agree to refund everything so I can take my boat to another shop to get it done right. Can't wait to be able to use my graphs with a clear image! I'm super exited about Mega Imaging!

      Sonar are listening devices if your boat is creating noise from other devices or electrical components those need to be addressed. There area few things that can be done to help kill RF Noise but to eliminate you have to address the source of the noise.

      Agreed. That's why I'm taking it to the shop that is the best at doing that. Can't wait until I can actually fully utilize awesome electronics on my first bass boat! Watching this video got me amped!

    Doug, my wife just brought me the Helix 10 mega for Valentine's day..... my questions are.....
    1. Do I need to change the chirp configurations ?
    2. Can I power my unit up in the Garage out of the water and it not hurt my transducer ?
    3. Do I need to level the transducer like I did with my helix 7 non mega ? (While at idle)
    Thanks for the videos there a big help....

    Also Humminbird needs to setup a site so people can share their recorded maps. I know some spots are secret but a lot of areas aren't. I had a Garmin unit for a short while and used the Garmin Connect to download recorded maps people uploaded of an area. We fish an area where the navigation maps end so it was a real plus. I was able to add to what I downloaded with more recording. I also uploaded what I recorded. Great feature and Humminbird should do it to.

    • @imnotimportant
      @imnotimportant 7 років тому

      They also own Lakemaster, so they would be cutting into their own sales of mapping chips by doing that. Never gonna happen. Infact, I wouldnt be surprised if somehow it was illegal to share maps off of a zerolines card since they also own Zerolines (by lakemaster).

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  7 років тому +1

      It's not illegal to share your own maps if you wish. Actually one of the features of AutoChart is you did the work you own the maps and can control who gets the maps from you.

    • @Askeyb2011
      @Askeyb2011 7 років тому

      Doug Vahrenberg My comment wasn't to do with sharing maps with FRIENDS. Garmin has a web site on their system that people can upload and download recorded maps. Great system for sharing. I found most of the area I wanted to record on the site. Also Garn'ins recording system is better and all Free.

    • @DougVahrenberg

      I was answering the question "Shiddy" replied to your original question. There is an AutoChart Users Group that allows owners to share mapping if they desire.

    What are the settings so you can actually see fish on side imaging like you can on traditional sonar using a split screen. Truly, answer this for setting in shallower water. Then we have some useful info. here.

    I have the Helix Chirp Mega Si G2N. I was told to use the sharpness to see fish. Mainly I have been adjusting with sensitivity and contrast. Also to less span when wanting to see fish on the side imaging. Maybe expand and then shorten span when you want to see fish better. We went salmon fishing and fish all over the sonar screen. When I looked at the side imaging it looked like a mess of Shad or something else small. Didn't really see the Spring Chinook Salmon but realized what we were seeing on the sonar wasn't salmon.

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  7 років тому

      I rarely use sharpness with the MEGA Imaging. I would adjust sensitivity actually need very little and color pallets will help too

    • @Askeyb2011
      @Askeyb2011 7 років тому

      Thanks Doug. Someone else told me to just adjust the sensitivity and contrast. I got some great pictures of the side imaging. Last time we went fishing for Spring Chinook we actually could see fish with the side imaging. When I had the Garmin unit the Garmin support told me they don't support finding fish with side imaging only structure. There are a lot of guides that are using side imaging for salmon. There was a short Sturgeon season on the lower Columbia River and guides were using side imaging to find feeding Sturgeon in shallow water. That is what I'm hoping to do with this new Humminbird Helix unit. Increase locating fish and getting more fish on the line.

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  7 років тому +1

      LOL...Side Imaging not for find fish???? Why invest in the technology if it's not going to help you find and catch more fish.

      That's easy answer: Humminbird. The Best Side Imaging, The Best Down Imagine, The Best Mapping...360 Imaging nothing compares to 360. CHIRP 2D Sonar is as good as anyone else if not a little better. Plus Humminbird is leading with new innovations that help catch fish and total package. The ability of the One Boat Network to LINK your Humminbird to MinnKota iPilot LINK and LakeMaster Mapping. Then you can through in AutoChart LIVE...the features are all in Humminbird Favor.

    How does the mega si work in 10 to 15 fow? I like to drag big baits for 60+lb cat fish. I often use planner boards to get a wider swath. I just want to know if the mega si will work well at that 10 to 15ft depth to see structure, bait fish, and big cats.

    • @DougVahrenberg

      Shallow water has very limited coverage area with DI compared to MEGA Imaging. Could be the coverage area. I use standard settings then tweak as needed for the conditions each day. No one setting going to work for all conditions.

    • @DougVahrenberg

      You can share sonar technology from one unit to another like SI to non-si unit. But that is about the limit no map sharing is available with HELIX.

    Helix 7 Chirp DI
    Just got a new Helix 7 CHIRP DI. Should I set it to 455 khz or 800 khz? Played with it in the lake yesterday, but fish weren't easy to see or I haven't trained my eyes to spot them yet.
    Also, can I do screen shots on this unit with Lakemaster micro card in?

    • @DougVahrenberg

    Question, I now have the G2N Di unit on the front of the boat. Cant figure out the best setting to use for drop shotting? I need more coverage area in 2d for sonar? Had it figured out for the old 1159 unit but cant get the coverage with the new 10 G2n Di unit. Khz setting?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  7 років тому +1

      Which DI transducer do you have on the trolling motor? Standard or Wide. The wide provides 60° with 83kHz and 20° with 200kHz or the standard has 25° 200 kHz I use the 200kHz for drop shoting for precision but some like the additional coverage with the wide transducer

    • @jeffraygooch5154
      @jeffraygooch5154 7 років тому

      Hmm I have I guess the standard one that comes with the unit? Fairly sure its not the wide one. I talked with David Turner and he offered some suggestions to get the 83Khz setting to work on the same unit, got it showing up on the setting just got to try and see how it does this weekend. Any other suggestions other than purchasing a new transducer? What about the old transducer off the 1159 I had before? Guessing that would not utilize the chirp DI and 2d?

    • @DougVahrenberg
      @DougVahrenberg  7 років тому +2

      The standard equipment transducer is not recommended for Trolling Motor use since it does not have additional shielding and can increase chances of getting RF noise in the system. THe standard transducer does not have the 83kHz feature. You can use the old 1159 Transducer but was it a 2D Only or DI model of the 1159. You have to use the correct transducer or risk damaging the internals of the unit if trying you use wrong frequencies with wrong transducer

    • @jeffraygooch5154

      You have transducers connected direct to each unit? Which Models and which transducers are you using. In the Network Tab you select the transducer you want for the unit and it displays the data from that transducer. If it is connected to the unit should be simple. One hint rename your units versus the IP address and makes it much easier to know which transducer you are selecting. I have a video on this on Ethernet Networking and selecting which accessories it uses.

    My Onix is good enough that there is no reason to buy a better Fish Finder. The 360 is the greatest concept out there but the image does not seem very good. I would pay to have a significantly improved 360. When is it going to happen?

    • @DougVahrenberg

      Slow the refresh speed of 360 will increase the details. ONIX is very nice but I have been running MEGA side by side with ONIX and finding more than I ever have with MEGA Imaging. It's super high details make it easier to count fish and know exactly what you've found

      Watch my early videos I have one that is Understanding Side Imaging that should help and several others explaining sonar technologies and coverage areas

    The Higher the frequency the less of an image you will get. Just like sound, long waves (bass or 455khz) travel further and short waves (high frequencies 800 and higher kHz ) dont go far at all. What you wind up with is a 15” screen and very little of it used, which is a WASTE OF MONEY HAHAHAA!!! Get a helix and stick to 455k as it is all you need to find fish and structure. The higher frequencies are a gimmick...not useful.

      Higher Frequency create more details but at less distance. Low Frequency can travel farther but less details and that is what is awesome about the MEGA imaging Products is you have CHIRP Side Imaging 455kHz Range, 800kHz Range and MEGA Imaging so you can use all 3 depending on your needs. MEGA Imaging is where I run my units normally and can see 80' to 100' to the sides very easily in all the depths I normally fish 50' and less. But when I want more or a different view I can switch easily to other CHIRP SI Frequencies. Something you can not do with Gen 1 HELIX it is single frequency sound waves for Side Imaging. Now the G2N units offer MEGA imaging but you might want to review my new series HELIX vs SOLIX there is more than just sonar differences and the Big Screen Units provide more area to display split screen data so you don't need multiple units or switch views to see larger data. It all depends on what you want and what you need. That is the awesome thing with Humminbird they offer many products and series of unit depending on budget to fit anglers needs.

      2c you've obviously never actually used an Mega products to have made such a statement! For appx the last decade I ran a 997 and 1197 on my previous bassboat. Then lastyear I got a new boat and I put twin Helix Mega Si 10 G2n on it (front and rear). The difference is ASTOUNDING! Even buddies who likewise have previous generation Hbird Si units are amazed at the difference in image and information revealed. We've purposely tested my Mega's on spots on our local waters (Pickwick and KY Lake/TN River) we've been fishing and using previous Si on for years and we've been blown away at new things and detail the new technology has revealed. My new boat is a 24ft bayboat that I also use several times each year on the coast while at my place in FL. The images I've found under bridges and along jetties and even offshore are considerably better than those I found of the same spots with my previous units. Every range has it's uses but you are simply wrong saying/thinking that Mega is just a gimmick and not worth the money. I'm COMPLETELY happy and satisfied with my purchases of my Helix Mega's!
