You are my favorite UA-cam gardener. I made a bunch of tubs last summer from old mineral tubs and followed you exactly. Also tried a few others and had the most success with your system.
"There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty." (Proverbs 11:24) Thank you for sharing the King James Bible with people.
Thank you Leon! Just discovered your channel. We live in Tucson and gardening in the desert can be challenging. However, we built a pergola with shade cloth on the south and west sides and did container gardening. Still picking tomatoes and peppers! I'm planning on switching to the 50 gallon barrels and I'm doing the plastic bin Kratky method inside. I started doing quart mason jars last winter, and that worked very well, grew beautiful lettuce, but every couple of days I was changing out the solution with more nutrient solution which got to be a bit challenging. Thank you for your videos! I appreciate you! God Bless!
Thanks Leon great video and information you have definitely helped me with my gardening I always learn something new watching, I’ll definitely try the sea minerals this year thanks again
Hello from overseas ‘Jordan ‘, Mr Leon, You are the best gardener i Have ever seen . Full of ideas And very creative man . We learned from you lots of things. I wish you to be in a good health . Thanks again for all your work..
Hello I miss Gun barrel Texas.. This is my favorite place growing up as a teenager Don't know if loon bay is still around we were always out on that lake at 7 points. Those were the good old days 😇 love your videos 💛💛💛💛 I need to come back with my soon to be 19 year old daughter and show her around😁
I did your wiken it that size tud. 3 cucumbers and 2 peppers it worked grate. I watered once a week. Mother, turned the heat up. Thank God I seen plants wilting after 3 days the tub dryed up. I had the tub on my deck. Gust so you know. It worked great THANK YOU. (Live and lurn)
Instead of using the cups and gravel I tried and used a pool noodle to support the seedling. From 1 pool noodle you can cut many, many plant hold-ya-from-floppins. And they're reusable! I cut the noodle into about 2 to 3 inch chunks...depending on the plant. NOW ...are the chemicals or anything that was used in the manufacturing of the pool noodle....going to leech out and into the plant? Prolly.....but I haven't figured out how to calculate or measure that. .....so I just put it out of my mind. Lol. Leon, you have taught me so much about gardening.....and I have been gardening all my life ... 50 years now. You're an amazing kind soul! Thank you for all you share!
Thankyou Leon! We visit Lake texoma often and when we are gone we watch your videos. Moved to tn to try our hand at gardening! Our peacocks ate our first lettuce crop but I'm thinking containers & greenhouse ought to solve that problem. We don't have the heat just humidity where we are so I'm gonna try to balance it this years spring!
Love your videos!! Hey would adding a hole in the tote at the level you are trying to attain help keep from drowning the plants? I think I’d try that to ensure I didn’t over fill the container?
Love watching you , I'm learning so much , thank you . I'm in Northern Ontario and I would like to know where you buy the big containers for wicking ? Thanks This is Joanne not my hubby..lol
What I did with mine is put a fish line off the bobber in the tank with a small split shot sinker on the outside so I could monitor the water level in the tank. Split shot rises, water goes down, now you know when you need to add more water with nutrients..
The big question is how do you fill the bottles at the bottom of the box? Do you pour water on the top of the soil until it flows out of the holes at the bottom of the box? Doesn't it make the soil soaking wet?
I do this but I've learned that making float for the totes and buckets makes them easier to manage. Injecting air into the solution also makes a big differenct.
Morning Leon......I don't have a high tunnel or greenhouse and so how much direct sun does this tote need? I tried some hydroponic tubs last spring-summer and the water gets too hot sitting in direct sun for 5-8 hours. The greens seem to do ok in a shadier spot. What do you think? God bless!
The Back Porch Farmer I have grown vegetables like this for years. The trick is to add some reflective bubble wrap around the vertical sides of the totes. I use the Reflectix stuff from Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Nice job!
Thanks for teaching us what you have learned threw the years i cant wait till spring.i might have to start one indoors
Indoors is good idea. Heavy to move outside though.

Wow! Cut pool noodle into 2 inch pieces and put seedling in center hole. smallest plants would float around in water!
Another great video brother Leon
Leon, you are an American treasure.
This was awesome
Happy new year! Leon

Put a fence around garden.
Thanks once again Sir,cotton balls are cheap enough..
Thanks
Very interesting.
Use a small dowel with a cork will float only a small howl to drill for measuring water level
I’m hoping for a great garden this year
Hey Leon!! New sub!
Need to upgrade that potato-cam of yours.
Using this method with lettuces, how much direct sunlight should the container be placed in?
What fertiliser do you use
Love your videos!! Hey would adding a hole in the tote at the level you are trying to attain help keep from drowning the plants? I think I’d try that to ensure I didn’t over fill the container?
Very very good idea.
How would you stake up a hydroponic tomato plant?
Kratky method- non-circulating hydroponics.
Love watching you , I'm learning so much , thank you . I'm in Northern Ontario and I would like to know where you buy the big containers for wicking ? Thanks
This is Joanne not my hubby..lol
Call them or might not get answer.
Thank you very much for all your ideas Sir! What fertilizer do you use? I was hoping it would be in the description...
Sustain fertilizer
@@cindyr4742 Thank you!
Get it from them. call number in video.
ANXIOUSLY WAITING FOR YOUR INO COMMING TO MY MAILBIOX THANK YOU!

Lead is poisonous. Use steel one or nut off a bolt.
Love your videos, I have learned so much. I do have a question. What type fertizer do you use with the hydroponic totes?
Call his store (not online!) Number on video
Love all of your videos!! Can fruits been raised this way? Strawberries?
Strawberries yes. But have to over winter plants. I don't know if that can be done.
Leon this is great! Thinking about growing in the basement using grow lights over the winter! Any thoughts or tips ?
Sounds to me like it would work. Humidity problems with some plants maybe
A little weep hole will solve the overflow problem if one is refilling the solution in the tub.
🔥RESPECT

Can I have this setup outside? What if we get a lot of rain and the container overfills with water?
Too much rain will dilute the nutrients and drown the air roots. It’s best to have cover outdoors, a green house, high tunnel or grow indoors.
The big question is how do you fill the bottles at the bottom of the box? Do you pour water on the top of the soil until it flows out of the holes at the bottom of the box? Doesn't it make the soil soaking wet?
I dont believe he puts soil in these containers, ,only water with fertilizer !
how about a air pump with a air stone?
Where is this store located at?
can you plant lettuce seeds in the little pots if they have clay pellets in the bottom?
This is for plants only not seeds
Have to start seedlings first, then move to net cups in tub. Can use Master Blend for fertilizing as well.
How about a dip stick to check the water?
Yes, he said that.
Have you tried starting seeds using hydroponics and then moving the growing plant into the ground?
I would like that video!
Do you have problems with mosquitoes breeding in the standing water
The water has nutrients, so no mosquitos will grow in the water
Do you think I could use those red party cups turned upside down instead of milk jugs in the bottom of a five gallon bucket?
Depends on how big heavy plants/soil is. 5 gallon bucket could grow 3 ft tomato or 1 cabbage
Can you grow collards in those? How long would they take if the answer is yes also?
Depends on how big plant. Same time or a little faster because in container.
Is this still grown outside or inside under grow lights?
I would say inside or outside if not mov. Full of water/plants it will be very heavy.
How often do you add more fertilizer
Only add more fertilizer when adding more water.
Can you list the bulk seed you sell? I know you said I can have it shipped to me. Thanks God bless
I would like to know as well.
I do this but I've learned that making float for the totes and buckets makes them easier to manage. Injecting air into the solution also makes a big differenct.
What does making a float for the tote mean?
@@OfftoShambala For making holes, I recommend a 2-3/4" hole saw for 3" net cups.
@@OfftoShambala I recommend using the 17 gallon totes. They are deep enough.
How would a medical marijuana plant do in one of these?
Outside or under lights?
Either inside outside
Hi Leon, can I use sea water yo instead of sea minerals? I am in Canada, I am unable to buy your sea mineral.
How would we know? Implied that it is not needed at allUse chemical makeup of minerals.
Where is Tiffany Dover? Please do a UA-cam search for Tiffany Dover.

@@johangrundlingh3729 that's a great idea! I tried some shade and my poor squash roots boiled here in Texas 😏
@@johangrundlingh3729 good idea ... I was concerned about that
