Jonsi's bowed guitar is one of the most beautiful sounds ever produced in modern music. It definitely inspired me to seek out and create my own unique guitar sound instead of just playing the usual blues riffs and standard tunings. I'm so glad that Sigur Ros exists.

The song is dedicated to the sun🌞 the seasons in iceland are extremely different from America in their winter darkness lasts 19 hours with only 5 hours of sun light and in summer its daytime all day except for about 5 hours

Sigur Ros is a gift from the heavens. I love them so much. ❤️. I cannot wait to see them live in a couple months. I listen to them during my Ketamine infusions, which are 2 hours long. They help me stay grounded, while not interfering with lyrics. Beautiful.

The kick drum plays 16th notes at the end over every other bar, but it just sounds like a mistake every time I hear it. Like I know it's intentional, but it just takes away from this solid driving pulse that propels the song forward.
Well, it's Hopelandic, sort of an imaginary version of Icelandic! I know, Jonsi is not just a musical genius, he's quite the extraordinary song writer too!
One accented kick is displaced a 16th note, that’s why it has this kind of a draggy feel to it. However, I wonder why he decided to play it like this. Maybe to make the finale more impressive and straight forward. Just like a relief from the dragging.
@@DikaWibisono seeing it live really does send you into a whole other reality where the music being played washes over you and reminds you just how beautiful life is... will never forget it
Matty Bot the hit is there on the album, it just isn't nearly as up front. i think they said they recorded three layers of bass drum for the album and mic'd up the squeaky chain on an old pedal as well. live he plays two of those parts on the two kicks regularly and one with a mallet in his right hand hitting the kick as well and then a sample of the squeak. that off time hit just happens to be on the loudest of the kick sounds playing so you notice it more than on the album!
People keep liking my comment so I decided to post again. Listening to the song live and then listening to the studio recording I stand by my words. There is no off time kick in the studio song. At least not one as drastically off time on this live video which it almost takes the flow out of the song. Yes the studio recording has very faint hits on the kicks and they use all sorts of weird fancy instruments but I hear what I hear.
Sounds like the drummer is briefly touching 3/4 then back to 4/4 and it confuses me. I don't recall that before since first hearing this years ago🤷🏽♀️
I know its intentional and pretty hard thing to do, but the kick sounds so off beat for me, and this not happens in the album version. Drive me crazy! hahaha
Well, I've heard it enough times to realize that the tempo is not wrong, the drummer just wait kind of 2 secs more to play that beat twice and then he continues with the normal tempo.
This is my favorite song from my favorite artist, but the bass seems to be a tiny bit off beat sometimes. The singing is good but not as good other times. Just saying -- I hope everyone loves this song but listen to other versions if you like it.

yeaahhh..that is true...
He definitely brought it more into the mainstream... Of course Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin also utilized a bow guitar in Dazed and Confused.

Glowing Sun (Bright Sun)
Now that you’re awake
Everything seems different
I look around
But there’s nothing at all
Put on my shoes,
I then find that
She is still in her pyjamas
Then found in a dream
I’m hung by (an) anticlimax
She is with the sun
And it’s out here
But where are you…
Go on a journey
And roam the streets
Can’t see the way out
And so use the stars
She sits for eternity
And then climbs out
She’s the glowing sun
So come out I awake from a nightmare
My heart is beating
Out of control…
I’ve become so used to this craziness
That it’s now compulsory
And here you are…
I’m feeling…
And here you are, Glowing sun…
And here you are, Glowing sun…
And here you are, Glowing sun…
And here you are…
Thank you!
Thanks for this

This and varua for me 👍💜
Somehow the tempo of the drum kick makes me insecure haha
Why does it sound so much straighter on the album version? Here it sounds like they slow way down on every third measure.

Same here. I was looking for the comment. I was wondering what was going on with the time signatures but don't recall it on other recordings.
As a musician it is hard to take the BD groove, of course is intentional but why haha
