    Nolly is a beast! I mixed one of the Periphery songs in Nail the Mix, and was floored at his playing and tone. It's awesome to have such talented players changing the game. He sure doesn't fit Glenn's rule #2 lol.

      Tangalang22 He still writes with them, but he's doing his own thing for GGD. If you watch the P4 documentary, he explains how it works. Long story short, he just doesn't actively tour with them. Since that's the case, they have the pre-recorded bass tracks so the mix isn't screwed up.

    I started listening to periphery about 2 months ago and haven’t been able to listen to anything else. Nolly explains that he fits in the mix with Misha and Jake like one big instrument that just blasts your ears off. Their soft stuff is great and Spencer is just the icing on the cake. Definitely check them out if you’re a fan of heavier/melodic stuff. Thanks for listening to my rant.

    Sikth, the criminally unknown forebears of djent and a band that Periphery are heavily influenced by , make fantastic use of slap and tap in odd time signatures and their bassist, James Leach, is brilliant!

    I was super bummed when Nolly left Periphery. I dunno how they'll find a replacement. He's an amazing bassist.
    Nolly and Geddy Lee are the reasons I want to learn bass. If I could ever have a quarter of this dude's talent, I'd be pretty stoked.

      He's still very much a part of the band, but he just no longer tours with them. He has continued to play all the bass parts since Periphery III and is heavily involved in the mixing/production side of things. It is a bit weird that they play to his backing track live though! I agree regarding his talent, no questions, but his tone is also legendary... it sounds so massive but yet it cuts through the mix excellently. Love Nolly.

      Actually, I bet is Illegal for Davie to use a pick because Nolly exists. Nolly has the power of all technics, Pick, slap, tap and *MASSIVE* attack (Including the triple camera angle). Nolly is way above everyone and everything. Nolly was the creator of the holy slap and mighty tap.... But there is one last bass trick....     Thanks Scott!! The way this is lit, the shadows of the strings...it's very cool! Adam is a beast for sure, too bad the guitars get all the credit in this band, half the time they're stepping all over the bass.

      Well, the 3 guitarists of Periphery said that Nolly was the best guitar player in the band and if you know the other three guys that means A LOT!

      @@speckon Yeah. He's actually an absolute monster of a guitar player, and some of my favorite Periphery riffs are Nolly riffs, (Omega intro for example)

      @@speckon It's so true though, if you look at his old UA-cam videos from about 10 years ago he was already nailing Sikth songs and they are a god tier band from a technical point of view. The man has immense talent.

    the B-strings on those basses are tight. It solves the problem i've always had with 5-strings, the B always sounded like a rubber band farting....

      Its because of the fanned frets the B string is longer than the other strings which helps a lot with clarity. It sounds like a bell

    You know ive been watching some videos about this cover, some with other tunings on the upper strings but keeping the low A but with some differences on the tabs, at the end dude… your playing sound is amazing specially your notes they sound for some reason SO GOOD! And what makes it’s even more special is that I own a MM sterling bass 😳 keep it up my man it was just PERFECT 👌 btw just a little bit curious, what gauge of strings where you using for this tone ?

    I saw that exact same model of bass at Long & McQuade in Saskatoon. It is a beautiful guitar. I wish I had a Dingwall to replace my weak Sears Nova PJ Bass

      That's what has always put me off joining, I'm a pretty broad minded player and enjoy playing solo stuff but there's only so much Jaco, Thundercat and staccato Jazz skiddley-bop chord progressions I can handle.

      @@kimseniorb well in periphery's case, they have a nice softer song called lune off of p3. There's also It's Only Smiles off of p4 which is a really heartfelt song about the vocalist's sister's death. I think The Way the News Goes and Absolomb from p3 might be calm enough too. Those four help show the versatility of the band. Satellites and Garden in the bones off of p4 are also really nice and aren't too busy but have heavier parts. Most of their older stuff was a lot faster
