I have a S1 Daimler XJ6 that has been off the road for 32 years. Had to rebuild the carbs, water pump, radiator etc. Got it running 2 weeks ago using like you a separate tank. The tank was a pig to get out as the lower wing screws had to be ground out. The filler cap was locked solid on the tank took ages to separate unlike yours. I tried using industrial cleaner for fuel tanks but it was too far gone with rust and tar. I eventually got the tar out after about 5 goes but the rust was really bad so bought a new tank. The fittings though are different and you need a different fuel pipe for a start.
I remember a friend had one of these. His wife took the kids to Thorpe park with the handbrake on and emptied both tanks and destroyed the shoes and hubs
I watched the whole episode - Elvis doesn't know much about older cars, when trying to start the old Jag, he was shown furiously pumping the accelerator pedal. On a car with SUs, that does precisely nothing when trying to start it, as SUs don't pump extra fuel when doing that!
Having experienced removing fuel tank from my xj6 which had been unused for 30 years. The filler was welded to the tank and had to be broken off to release it. Secondly the lower wing retaining screws had to be ground off. You'll forgive me if I think your video account has been set up. Also according to DVLA the car was MOT 4 months before this video. Come on guys how about some genuine situations here.
I believe it was repainted at some point. I hear the bolts holding the lower covers on should be bare metal or dark. If they are body color there was a respray.
Omg these tanks are such a pain and rot out so much I had one of these when I was younger bought it second hand went to fuel it up and the guy didn’t tell me the passenger tank was rotten poured gas all over before realizing it wasn’t in the tank
Wheeler dealers had a jaguar from that type once before, but that was an green XJC coupe if I remember correctly, and that was with Edd China, Edd China still makes videos on his UA-cam channel, and they are quite interesting, his UA-cam channel is callet Edd China, and he is now restoring an old 1986 range rover.
He has multiple projects and bounces from one to the other with no real plan or pattern. There is the electric ice cream van, which google told me had taken the record before he started showing us the engineering. The Outspan Mini was interesting to me, because it had some relevance to actual mechanics, but the Range Rover is a pointless waste of time and money. For me, there is a clear division in the professionalism of the production, with Wheeler Dealers being far more interesting and relevant, as well as better quality. Perhaps Edd is trying to tailor his videos to a different audience and I am simply not one of those. I find the electric ice cream van episodes both boring and irrelevant. I prefer older cars and maybe that is not what Edd is looking to do quite as much.
I watched thsi episode recently. I can't understand someone just leaving a car as good as that for 30 years and selling it for only 5K. Then Brewer say's "what a deal" as he's seen other go for double that, meaning 10K. So they have a survivor XJ6 needing some overhauling, mainly fuel, brakes and servicing ending up with a showroom car and Brewer, Mr. "I know everything about selling cars" sell's it for 8K after spending another 2.5K on it making, (not including their time) a total profit of........250 pounds. If other cars sold for 10K and over, this had to be at minimum a 12K car. So much for him knowing everything. It's all bollocks to me!
Pumping the accelerator pedal on a car with SU carburettors does absolutely nothing. These carbs don’t have an accelerator pump. Any good mechanic should know that.
Agree with the comments - no rust and amazing paint even underneath the bumpers that had never been removed. This program has always been faked and this was one of the worst
