- Detailing a barn find is not for the faint of heart, but when we got a chance to bring a 1994 Jaguar XJ6 back to life we jumped at it. In this episode of 303 Car Care, we clean and protect a Jag that had sat idle for more than ten years and learn more about the car and its owner.

I worked at the factory that did all the chrome plating for Jaguar. Walsall in the west Midlands. UK. The exterior parts were plated to a very high specification. Capable of passing 400 hundred hours Neutral Salt Spray test. The parts would be hung in a cabinet and continously sprayed with a warm salt mist and checked daily for sign of corrosion or breakdown of the plated surface. 24 hrs in a NNS is equal to 1 year outdoor exposure.
To achieve this standard they are plated with 35/40 microns of copper which is then highly polished to a mirror finish removing any blemishes, pits or holes in the deposit. They are then given a "Duplex" Nickel coating which means a double coat. 1st coat is a dull or semi bright deposit which is applied to 25/30 microns and is a very ductile and flexible deposit that provides the levelling of the deposit. Next the Bright nickel deposit gives us the decorative appearance. This is thin deposit of 10/15 microns because the chemical make up of the bath makes a bright deposit brittle and not very ductile so a thick deposit would be prone to cracks and stress lines in service. Next is a very thin microporous nickel, so thin it cannot be measured. It is deposited with a fine organic powder which gets co deposited to form Millions of pores in the deposit. This slows down effect of "current corrosion" which occurs when multiple layers of metal are deposited on each other creating a electrical current in the deposit which over time corrode the deposit. Finally an equally thin layer of Hexavalent chrome is plated. Giving the beautiful "blue" deposit that gives the part its final look. I have recently retired from 49 years in the Electroplating/Electrophoretic paint/powder coat industry. I have worked mainly in the automotive /aerospace industry producing part for Jaguar /Rolls Royce /Boeing/Airbus /MOD /Mclaren/Aston Martin.
Whenevrr I see a car that I have been involved with the plating of the parts. I always have to go an look at the exterior parts to see if they have stood the test of time. So far I've not been disappointed. 👍
Thats a great story thank you for sharing
Awesome story - thank you for sharing with us! And thank you for watching 303 Car Care!
strange that the chrome rusts as hell compared to Mercedes Benz, VW or BMW Chrome of the 1970s and 80s! Maybe the Jag Steel was soviet like Fiat and Peugeot
@@SchlipperschlopperI had 3 of these cars rust was not a major problem. Especially compared to other cars of the same era.

No it doesn’t! I own a 94 XJ40 Sovereign, and it has no issues. By contrast, here in England 🏴 most Mercs & BMW’s are rotten.
From a neglected old Jaguar into a gleaming proud Jaguar. I live in the UK and am now on my tenth Jaguar. Not managed to buy an XJ40 yet but maybe one day. I sure wish I had inherited that example, its a keeper!
Not alot of cars ooze class this is the exception
The - Jag - you - arr - certainly looks good.
Well said, my teeth grind every time I hear jag-waaar
Americans cannot pronounce it correctly.
My favorite Jag design, this car never got the love it deserves. This car is amazing to drive and very beautiful. I think many people who owned one didn't take good care of them.
nah bro, there are tons of youngtimers with rectangular headlamps... a classic XJ needs Oo (||||||) oO
@@jaroslavzaruba2765 Then you keep them. I don't need them. Lol, I like the rectangular headlights for myself thank you.
@@jaroslavzaruba2765 You know. I have changed my mind. You are right about the circular headlights.
Early version had the rounds
This model great balance between old and new I agreed unappreciated
i used to have a jaguar xj40 3.2s, god i loved that car !
I absolutely love the generation of jaguars
you'll never see such elegant styling ever again.... and that green is an outstanding color for the Jaguar
Amazing work, absolutely fantastic. Only thing that I dont like is the music that kills the vibe of classy gentleman's car like this Jag. There must have been more suitable music for this beautiful car.
Keep up with good work guys!
Agree. The music chosen distracts and detracts from the otherwise very good presentation.
Agree, music is for skateboarding or cliff diving🤣
Great job saving this one! I drive a 99 XJR and I love it.
Great episode! We love to see a barn find and the transformation after its detailed! 👏
🧡
i prefer the version with 4 round headlights
So the Series 3 xj6 ? Sovereign or base model
@@Iwishiwasflying I find the 1995 Jaguar XJR to be the best looking sedan ever followed by the BMW 7 series e38
@@PaulTC777BMW e39 is 5 series…
@@william1389 e38 I meant
@@IwishiwasflyingThose were the best.
that was great to watch. It never gets boring to see a dusty old car shine again.
Thanks for watching!
Great clean and detailing of this Jaguar XJ40 era XJ6😎
Thank you for watching!
I’m from Coventry England, this made my day ❤
Thanks for watching! Greetings from Chicago!
A Coventry Cat!
Brilliant video Brilliant Detail ❤🚘.
You guys do awesome work! That Jaguar looks beautiful
Thank you - we appreciate that! And thank you for watching!
I also have a 1994 XJ40. Same wheels and trim (base model) but in Regency Red. BRG was my first choice but couldn't find one back in 2007 so I bought it in red which was my 2nd color choice. The top of the headrests tells how much time the car spent out in the sun. These headrests are pretty flat on the top. Mines have horns on them because the leather shrank.
I used to not care for the XJ40...both the Series III XJ6 and the X300 were much better looking.
But as time goes by, I find the old XJ40's growing on me. That one looks beautiful in that shade of green. And by 1994, Jaguar had all the gremlins exorcised from the design, and these and the later X300s were incredibly reliable.
If I could find one in this shade of green with the 6.0L V12, I would be very tempted....
Awesome job 👌
Love the JAAAG 👍👍❤️❤️
I sill think the 1970s one series Jaguar was the best one in the UK I had 3or4 of them but I loved the 70s one. Love your videos here in the UK thanks. Jeff in UK
So satisfying 🎉
We agree. Stay tuned for more 303 Car Care episodes!
Gorgeous 🥰
Nice Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.... S2

Thanks for watching!
These videos have the production quality of mainstream tv programs
Thanks for watching this episode of 303 Car Care!
What steam cleaner did you use? Curious of make and model. thanks. Car looks great!
Thank you! We used a Wagner Spraytech Steam Cleaner.
They rust well put on under seal we lost a lot here through rust Jeff in uk.
It’s been in a barn for at least 25 minutes!
Trying to pass this off as a barn find is equivalent to assuming your collectors edition Kit-Kat is worth something. 😶
It's a JAAAAAG
Jaggwarrrr
Pinned up drooping headliner.
Jag needs to go back to that design.
They will
👌

what is her fuel milleage liter/km?
Lovely, wat colour code is this please?
The paint code is HFB. Brooklands Green.
Sweet Jag! How much will it be sold for?
We appreciate that! If you could buy it, how much would you pay?
Pretty city. Which one
Mr. Galuska.. Don't you come from somewhere in Slovakia by any chance? Your surname is definitely from Central Europe
Quelle voiture ! Ce n'est pas du toc comme la plupart que l'on voit en circulation. La grande classe !
This is an infomercial
Nice advert.
Like of what you do
How much did you charge for that service ?
The detailing was done at our home office in Chicago, IL were 303 Products are manufactured so there was no "charge". How much would you charge for a detail like this?!

I bought a couple of neglected cars in the last years. I would never start washing a car. Especially not the engine.
I don't know why I see so many people who do not foam a car FIRST, BEFORE spraying HIGH PRESSURE water on it. Doing this first softens hard dirt particles and lubricates the paint surface PRIOR to high pressure.
When you spray high-pressure water directly on a car that is dirty, you scratch the paint with micro scratches. Just saying...
The music in this upload…..😮
🎶🎶🎶
Headliner and shocks require attention , shock float too much and headliner is bagging too much Just a suggestion, don’t get mad !
Yes, more things to check out and potentially replace! Thanks for the comment!
Why not put some valve stem covers on?....No one does this
I would like to say I'll buy it, but alas I would be unwilling to say what I would pay. If the owner wants to sell I would like to know what they want for it.
It’s not pronounced “JAGWAR “ it’s actually pronounced “ JAG-YOU-ARE “ .
The correct pronunciation is Jagwire.
@jsz2619 You're kidding, right?
@@joycerichardson1810 Yes. It's Jagwar.
Thank you, Colin. You're correct!
Music is too intense 😵💫
Is that not an XJ40, rather than a xj6?
It is a XJ40 generation XJ6.

Great video but really, clear out a rats nest without precautions, face mask for all the toxic dust disturbed which you breath in
Repair your roof cloth!😢
@@jeremybrown9179 yes correct
Jag leather was always better than the Germans
Base model for year, worth about 500 quid over here.ANd it's pronounced JAG U ARE! not jagwar ffs.
Jagwaar. Joke aside, fantastic work guys!
rinse the car from top down.........but clean the engine before removing the rats nest? lol sorry just thought that was funny
It's a jack wire
According to the federal HESCHLAVVO law, it is already forbidden in Switzerland to drive combustion engines on mountain passes from 2025. In France, the SCHLABOUBVE regulates that fossil vehicles that produce fine dust are prohibited in all cities from 2025. The BABVVO in Germany will bann exhaust gas pollution from 2027 and that is what will happen in entire EU also bann of all tires and brakes because of fine dust!!!!!!
This would probably have been an interesting video if the presenters looked at the camera and not the walls. Don’t know why “directors” think it make the video interesting. It’s very off putting lasted 90 seconds before I switched off.
I don’t think Americans are in a position to talk about cars when they churn out such dross .
It's not a jaguar 😢 it a ford.. 😂 the last real jaguar is 1988.....
This is just overcomplicating a simple job. And a 4 camera set up....
Its pronounced Jaguar not jagwar, try again J A G U A R .
🤔🤏
