Thanks for posting these episodes, pure gold to fans of the late, great Richard Beckinsale. Sad that his last work was so disappointing - dreadful, feeble scripts - but he was unlikely to match the brilliance of Porridge and Rising Damp immediately. Had he lived, I'm sure he would again have done brilliant work that stood the test of time, as those two classic sitcoms have done. Alas, it was not to be. A wonderful actor.

glamdolly20 I agree it was terrible even his great acting couldn’t push this - laughter (track) at unfunny lines 🧐

It is, indeed, all a question of personal opinion. This comedy does seem to me to be quite weak and run-of-the-mill. Others wouldn't agree, I know. Still, his legacy is beyond question. I am sure he would have gone on to greater things.

I can't even remember this series. Very palid stuff, probably avoided it.

David Swift was the elder brother of Clive Swift, who played Hyacinth's husband Richard.

Lets face it, this is a bland, middle of the road, typical middle class sitcom, but its worth watching because of Richard Beckinsale and knowing that it was one of the last things he did before he died which makes it interesting.

Thanks for this MK2, important bit of sitcom history, think it was Richard Beckinsale's last before he died?

How do people look before they have a heart attack because he's hiding it well to be honest

@@mrcrazyjonpresents4312 : Richard had an undiagnosed congenital heart defect, he passed away in his sleep.

@@mrcrazyjonpresents4312 One factor is that episodes 1-5 were made in late 1978, but episode 6 was delayed by a strike and was remounted in March 1979 (the second series of Fawlty Towers was also affected in the same way at this time), except that he died the day before the rehearsal would have happened. In other words this footage is all 3-5 months or something before he actually died.
The other factor is that he'd've had make-up on for fliming, which might disguise anything that may have been more visible to his friends and family (not that anything necessarily was visible even to them).

What a disappointing twist to the story. Now I remember by we never watched episodes 2 to 5.
