I’m a Jain who grew up in Canada, I’m a vegetarian, eat anything veg, I can’t leave potatoes etc, most jains are vegetarian like me. It’s easy being a vegetarian today, growing up here was tough in the 70’s as a vegetarian but now no problem.

    Hey Junaid,
Hope you are well. South Indian here. "Gunpowder Podi" (powder) is a popular condiment here in the south. It is a dry powder made with blending dried spices and lentils. You eat it with Idly or Dosa by adding some ghee to the podi making it like a chutney. It tastes amazing! Hope one day you get to try it. We have a variety of podis here that people eat with food. Take care, Have a safe and blessed Ramzan.

In Jainism, each life is counted as 1. One chicken and one bacteria is both counted 1 life. In Jainism one does not eat anything that grows under the ground like onion, garlic, potato etc. this food products have more bacteria so more life. To the Canadian guy stuck with a toxic boss- don't ask for your manager to write everything in writing. Instead, after each interaction send her a followup summarizing the conversation. Like when she says that You can't go for Friday prayer, write in the email that I am following up on our conversation around your concerns regarding me being away from my desk for 15 minutes on fridays. Since it is a religious obligation, I can't change the time of the prayer but I can offer some alternatives. I cam be available in xxx days after business hours for 15 minutes to makeup.
Don't get angry, don't hesitate. Just straight up provide a solution. And save all these emails by bccing to your personal id.

Regarding "Should I Confront My Boss",
I'd say completely stop or at least minimize verbal communication with your boss. Document every instruction. Whatever you want to ask, ask it in an email. If she calls you to her office and replies verbally, ask her to send a response to your email but it might look a bit rude so another work around would be to document the verbal discussion by sending another polite email to her with "as per your instruction" or "as discussed" mentioned somewhere in your email. Also record your working time in an excel to make sure that it is analysable. Another tip would be to make sure that the overtime that you are NOT being paid for, is noticed by your colleagues and higher management.

26:14 Even if you are put on PIP, most companies in Canada give severance. If you are fired on PIP due to performance, you are still eligible for employment insurance in Canada as it is considered under "Firing without cause". I was part of cost cutting last year at my company, by putting on PIP in Canada and let go after 7 weeks. I was given 2 months of severance, and even my employment insurance was approved. Although I never had to use it but it was approved. Also, humble request to people in tech who are born out of India, sharpen your skills as much as you can, get your Canadian citizenship, run to USA on TN visa. I have studied and worked in US, Canada is nothing but a shithole compared to USA. Low quality tech work, poor salaries, high cost of living, pathetic healthcare. The only reason I am in Canada is I can never get USA green card due to country of birth quota, and I have to relocate to India due to personal reasons and need a passport to return in future (Which US will never give me).
33:21 Jain people do not eat anything grown under soil, as they consider soil has bacteria and microbes.

Jains don't eat meat because their religion doesn't allow it.
We respect the vegetarians, but as a Muslim, we are allowed to eat meat. So we eat it. And others should respect this too.
If someone wants to eat veg only, it is their choice, but why do they want all others to become vegetarian?
The real problem is not consuming the meat, but utilizing the energy we get from eating meat.
I respect your videos and watch every episode, but the vegetarian thing seems a bit biased.

The kharoos boss of Canada in the third email has a point.
If the guy working for her is stepping outside of the office to go to a mosque deal with traffic and then come back, at the very least this take 30 mins if the mosque is near his office. And its unfair of him to be praying and attending appointments while he is clocked in. He cant be running his errands on the company' money.
What he should do is take not more than 5 mins out, and pray within the office, then the boss wont have a problem. In my opinion this guy is being inconsiderate as well and asking for too much. The boss isnt denying him the right to pray, all she is saying is dont go (step outside) for prayers on company' time and money. Not violating his right to pray, instead he is violating company' lineancy. Boss isnt committing any crime here. Going for traditional jummah the desi way will only be accepted where entire staff is desi and beleives in traditional desi jummah and its value. Otherwise even moderate or liberal muslims will have a problem with him going out for jumma on company' time.
I used to work in the govt. And i used to use my 15 min break to go pray within the office in basement. As it took 15 mins on its own to pray within the office. 3 mins to take elevator down, 5 mins in washroom and abolution, 5 mins praying, 2 mins putting shoes back on and dealing with the rush and crowd, 3 mins in elevator going back to your floor and 2 mins to walk back to desk and unlock computer and sign back in. This is altogether 17 mins - while doing everything fast and within the office.
Imagine him driving around to the nearby mosque , dealing with traffic, washroom, wudu, pray, dua, khutba, deal with crowd, put shoes on, go through entire parking lot and walk to car, deal with traffic, get back to desk... easily over 30 mins to 45 mins.
When conservative muslims pray atleast 2 prayers this way on company' time and money- this is easily around 100 minutes (1.5 hour or so) free money they made in the name of religion and praying. Im surprised other non muslim coworkers arent jealous of him and havent complained of him to the boss.
He needs to pray in his break time and eat lunch at his desk if he needs to.
For going to doctor appointments , boss is right , why should he be running errands every week going to appointments on company' time and money. Use your vacation pay.
I have worked in the west for a decade and half, I remember while working for the govt, once I had brought donuts for the staff on my 15 mins break, when I got back to the office, I firstly gave it to my boss, then i was going around offering it to the coworkers. My boss came out and told me to do this on my next lunch break as its company's time being used for relationship making. I understood her point and apologized and stopped with what i was doing and started working again. As embarrassing as it was in that time infront of all coworkers , after some time, In my heart I appreciated her for pointing it out to me, otherwise I would have made the same mistake again. Next times when I brought the treats, I placed them in a common area with a sign for everyone to enjoy treats on my behalf. This way I was courteous but most importantly ethical and proffessional and didnt stop working on company' time.
I remember once in a while if we corworkers wanted to make a small talk , our boss used to come out and tell us to not do that as its company's time and we shouldnt be investing in relationship building on company's time, we should do this after hours on our own. We used to apologize, understand and not talk further and focus on work. Nobody hated the boss, we understood that she was right.
Point is, in west when you are clocked in, you are expected to 'work' only for the time you are being paid for, all other activities are expected to be done outside of working hours or on your time off or by taking vacation hours, etc.
It's wrong, unfair to other employees and unethical legally, professionally and religiously as well to take advantage of work. If he is stepping outside for appointments for atleast 2 hours every week for each appointment, thats free money he got without working. Haram religioisly. Do the math yourself, he steps out of office and gets to the car - atleast 5 mins. Drives home to pick up wife- at least 25 mins. Drives to doctor- at least 25 mins. Checks in at reception desk and Waits for his turn - at least 10 mins. Gets seen by the doctor - at least 30 mins. Comes out of doctor office checks out to schedules next appointment at reception desk- at least 10 mins. Walks back to the car- 5 mins. Drives wife home- 25 mins, drives back to office 25 mins. Walks back from parking lot and gets to the desk and sign in- at least 5 mins. This is easily 3 hours practically, if he isnt wasting time in between stopping for coffee and forgetting something somewhere and driving back and not getting stuck in traffic. The math done is if he is speeding to get to places fast as normal travel times are over 30 mins from home to office and home to doctors' offices.
Then he steps out for jumma that takes him approximately around 45 mins. This is almost 4 hours of free money every week if he is going to one appointment and attending one jummah weekly. OFFCOURSE no boss in the west will tolerate this.
The guy is used to working in pakistani culture corporate for 11 years where people take tea, read news paper, go for jummah, talk to coworkers etc and this is the proffessional culture and a norm in pakistan. However In west people see it as very unproffessional and see you as a thief stealing from the company.
He also mentioned when he asks for recommendations and solutions she gets annoyed and tells him she cant baby sit him. She is right. In pakistani work culture is different , easy going , help around. In west , when you are hired, you are expected to know solutions and do the job right "independently". This guy is lacking that skill clearly which is why out of frustration after a few times of helping him, the boss now feels annoyed and says she cant baby sit him. She is right, if she has to proof read his work, put her time and energy, decide for him , recommend and suggest, why should he get paid for the work that she is doing ? Imagine she has to do all this for all the employees, when will she do her own work? What seems to me is , She is tired of teaching, suggesting and recommending him of his work that he is getting paid for.
When coworkers and bosses see employees and coworkers being inconsiderate and unprofessional, along with lack of skill; they give attitude, because they dont see you as an asset to the company. Which is what this guy is getting. This is a normal boss behaviour if they dont like the employee. Tell the guy to stop being chui mui and improve himself to be professionally ethical and considerate, learn the work and upskill himself; and he will see the boss change her attitude in some time.

40:58 Hummus is made of chic peas, There's one thing i'd like to clarify about the misconception how ghee is not healthy for you, it's actually on the contrary, you've to learn about how unhealthy "Seed Oils" are which is a non-saturated oil and causes bloating and all sorts of health related issues. Whereas Oils which are Animal based along with Oilve oil, Avacado Oil & Coconut oil are most saturated oil which actually aids in your digestion and has numerous other benefits.
South Indian dishes, most of the time are cooked in coconut oil which is way healthier and it's proven as an experiment done in the US by pig farmers where they tried to use coconut oil to fatten up their livestock, Rather than fatten up the animals, the coconut oil had in fact made the pigs leaner thanks to the pro-thyroid properties of the oil.

Not a Jain here but know the reason for there belief. Jains don’t eat root vegetables as it grows beneath the soil and forms the support system of the plant. Unlike most other vegetables and grains which are a way for plant to store extra nutrition and consuming them would not harm the plant.
Coming to vegetarianism, there is a big myth about the diet that it does not provide protein. The myth was propagated by the meat industry in the west in order to boost sales, similar to what the dairy and breakfast cereal industry did. There are several research papers on it but still the myth is alive. Though going Vegan might be a problem as it eliminates milk which is a superfood and one of the best food available to man in terms of nutrition.
Protein requirements can be met easily from the consumption of milk and its products. Most of the protein powders in the market are “Whey based” protein which is extracted from milk. Others are also available which extract from Soy beans ( which have way more protein than milk and meat). Soy based proteins are more popular in US as they have a huge cultivation of Soy beans there.
Milk, pulses, legumes which are staple to the subcontinent provide enough protein along with other minerals for an individual. Having said that Milk and its product are important in this as there are 2 amino acids which are found in less quantities in pulses, legumes and vegetables. But milk provides it in ample amount.
There are benefits of not consuming meat (except Fish). As most meat products (mutton, chicken, beef, pork) increase TGCs and LDL which are harmful for cardiovascular health. Fish does not fall in the category though. Fish is the best when it comes to meat products.
The downside of not consuming meat products is that you lack variety for your palate. As being a non-vegetarian expands the amount of food items one can enjoy.

In India even big celebrities are now promoting vegetarian food . Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, kartik Aaryan, Shahid Kapoor and many others are vegetarian. They used to be non vegetarian but now they have quit eating meat based food. In India there is so many varieties in vegetarian food are available that it is very easy to sustain without non veg . Moreover, eating non veg is not considered auspicious and healthy in Hinduism. It is written in our holy books that Killing life just for the sake of your taste is disrespectful. Every life is valuable . That's why more and more people are adopting vegetarian life style because it is very light and easy to digest. And in India people have started being serious about their health that is why they spend some time in society parks for exercise, jogging runningvand yoga . Even corporate people don't miss going to park for running. There is park infront of my home and I see people start walking and doing yoga since 5 o'clock. Because they also have to go to office. Interestingly, women are actively joining this healthy culture and they have also started going to park for walk in huge numbers.

The Jain thing about potato is not for bacterial growth, but because it is a root vegetable, unlike other vegetables/fruits which can be plucked from the plant/tree without leading to the "death" of the plant. These philosophies are from premodern times when there wasn't as much scientific knowledge. That said, avoiding consumption of meat on ethical grounds is a good moral decision as long as the deficiency of micronutrients is taken care of. The contemporary strain of vegetarianism in India is not largely inspired from ethical/moral considerations, rather it is rooted in dogmatic beliefs about ritual purity. Best example for this assertion, milk is perfectly vegetarian whereas sterile unfertilized eggs are not. (Gunpowder or molgapodi is a south Indian dry relish used on dosas, idlis among other things)
Factory farming is incredibly cruel to animals, and it needs to be changed radically.
North west India is more vegetarian, compared to south & east. Most vegetarian states are Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana & Punjab. All of south & north east are 97%+ non vegetarians. But food preferences differ not just by region, but also class & more importantly caste & religion.

For some time, I am having this feeling that as per your analysis India ka sab acha hai aur Pakistan ka sab bura hai. Bhai Pakistan ka apna taste pallete hai why are you over criticising it. Ajkal you tubers ne fashion bana lia hai Pakistan ki hr cheez ko down grade krne ka. And don't lecture Pakistan on carbon footprint. Indian Vegetarian diet ka food print bhalay kum ho but pora India is the BIGGEST polluter and GHG emitter, check recent reports on climate change. Tu pehlay India ko lecture dain about pollution. Sara pollution bus gaye ka gosht khanay see horaha hai na duniya mai ajeeb bus hr had cross krni hai India ki tareef main.
