- In this video, along with giving you just my take on why I chose engineering, I show you the perspectives of various engineers from a diverse set of ethnic and academic backgrounds. I give insight as to why different students chose chemical, mechanical, aerospace, electrical, or any other engineering field and computer science. We had all conducted research at Stanford University this summer under the SURF program. There are also Summer First scholars featured here. I hope you enjoy gaining a better insight as to why someone might choose to major or concentrate in engineering over any other field.
I am a rising senior at MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I am currently studying Aerospace Engineering, and hope to one day pursue a PhD in Aerospace as well.

I really needed this video. I just got my A level results yesterday and it didn’t get too great and sadly I felt like I was falling out of love of engineering and was not good enough. But this gave me the spunk in my step to continue. Thank youuuu, no wonder your one of my fave youtubers xx

10:39 I chose Computer Engineering as well. It was an accident as I originally wanted to do Mech after highschool but I stayed and ended up loving it.
Same, I was going for Naval Architecture but somehow I ended up enrolling in Aerospace Engineering. However, I am positive about it,maybe I can thrive in this major more than Naval.

I’m stuck between Physics and Engineering Physics, but from this video, I think I’ll go with Engineering Physics!
If you would like to go to the research part of science,then you should opt physics major. But if you're interested in building things etc

I am already in engineering and after every class I feel like I am unsuited for it :'(
I'm already a college graduate but thinking of going back to study engineering. But im already 25, im afraid that im might be too late to pursue another degree. 😣
The answer is simple.
I would want to become a electric engineer because I want use the stuff that I make to help others in need.
that’s a very cliche way of thinking and you may need to rethink your choice if that’s your only reason.

In Hong Kong, only students who didn’t perform well in public exam would choose Engineering as their major.Because the entry standard is much lower compared with medical field majors like physiotherapy, occupational therapy , dentistry etc just because these majors have high salaries. While engineering development in HK is a joke. No promising future to be an engineering student. And I am one of them to be honest.

I am really surprised at these MIT/“top” students’ perspective on engineering, most of them don’t even know what to say and when they finally do, they say something high schoolers would say. The answer is simple, engineering is what pushes humanity forward in all aspects of our existence.
