I love how Jessica tells us how she does everything and provides what she could to help us out, unlike other people who keep everything like it’s classified info lol. Thanks Jessica!
Thank you Jessica! I am so happy that you are so willing to share these things because it helps others to develop themselves as photographers, you don’t reserve you knowledge to yourself but share it and that is one of the most beautiful things you can do as a professional. Thx.
Could you make a video of how you should size images when sending them to clients to choose from, or through email and stuff like that? (If that makes sense)
remember to get a cheap 35mm and 50mm f1.8!even try out the cheap 40mm macro!no matter what brand u use!get the nifty fifty and learn to love the time it takes to get at least 4-6 good photos out of 50!
I am quite experienced photographer (12 years) and also former model (many years... :):):) but I have to say. I truly enjoyed this video. You answered questions truthfully, I agree with many answers you said. Well done. I am very sure this video will help many people out there. Keep up the great work.
I’ve just graduated university with a photography degree and I have a trail shift as an image retoucher tomorrow 😅 I’ve been watching your videos for a while now so hopefully I’ve learnt something.
My main question is how do you start out with wedding photography? Here in Las Vegas I figure it would be a good business to get into but I have no idea what the first steps would be.
I’d do a wedding shoot for a family member / friend / colleague first to build a portfolio and understand the business. Most of wedding clients come from referrals!
I have been BINGING on your videos. I just wanted to say that I LOVE that you are so encouraging to beginner photographers. I think there is 2 ways to go about responding to newbies, one is to roll your eyes and think you're so much better and say that ''everyone and their mother wants to be a photographer'' and that must be tempting at times! The other is the way you respond. Majorly love what you do!
Hope you include in your future videos talking about the importance or how to choose lens, like the vibration compensation, aperture, what kind of lens for certain situations or lens that can be 'all around' especially for beginners like me. it'd be really a big help. been looking for quite some time and i really do appreciate and value your tips. and also how to build confidence in taking pictures, during events for instance. thank you
As a fellow photographer, I agree 100% with everything shared by Jessica. Thank you for being so true to the craft, yourself, and sharing your wisdom. ✌🏾❤️💯
Jessica, how can I know when I'm good enough to be charging for pictures?
6 років тому+20
I know you're looking for Jess's answer but personally, I didn't want to be too cocky about my work too soon and charge them but I also didn't think my work was all that great sometimes. Instead, I went by when someone first asked me how much it would be. As long as someone's willing to pay you, you should charge them. But then you should also be cautious. If someone asks for a shoot, make sure to take in consideration your time and materials. The numbers side of any type of art isn't fun 😅
Start charging when people begin to want your service. Even if it's a small amount. If you continually offer to do pictures for free it will be a hard cycle to get out of. It's fine to do free shoots to build a portfolio, where you ask people to model for you or you offer the service to someone with the understanding that it is for your own purposes/uses. When people start asking you to do shoots and want you to do pictures their way then start charging. I learned this the hard way for myself.
Hi Jessica, to follow up with this video, can you make a video on how to get into wedding photography esp. when you have no wedding experience? What types of equipment do you need, lense, lights, etc? What are the typical shooting hours? What things are expected from you and your clients? How does the payment work? What do you give to your clients? Also how do you do a wedding on your own, without a second shooter or videographer?
I really love your feedback. I've been a makeup artist 12 years and done UA-cam for at least 7 years and I am just getting into photography. Was thrown into it actually because my mother is an agent. Your videos are helping me piece things together. Thank you
Hello Jessica. Can u present for us exactly what means a photoshooting? U know... How long do u spend with the model, how many pictures u give, how many pics u edit, how much do you charge... Etc... Just present one of your photoshooting package
I really do enjoy learning from you, been following you since I got my first camera (December 2017). Thank you for all your information and I continue you to follow and learn from you.
yeah this video is very helpful because it involves answer of the questions that nobody else are talking about so its very helpful i would love to watch videos like this if you are planning to make. You are doing great.Keep it up.
Yo, Jessica!! I love all your videos, they’re all so funny and informative all at the same time! This video is awesome, these are questions that I’ve had myself, I’m not a beginner in terms of doing photography but more of a beginner in business. Thanks so much for helping us!
Very interesting and informative. I especially found the part about paying models and agencies particularly useful. That is a my main problem at the moment in a rut. The agency part actually applies to a magazine list of requirements and terms and conditions for submissions. I don't think I would be agreeable to what is demanded but some other parts seemed off to me but this helped me to understand why it seemed off to me. I completely agree though. Photographers should be more assertive, value their work more. Nobody should ever work for free. I must say though I found this timely and particularly helpful out of several of your video's.
You have lots of talent. I would love to see more video's on finding and seeing light in different circumstances. Such as what is good light, bad light, etc
Wow Jessica! Congratulations on 1 million subs! I think you only had a few thousand when I started watching you so this is fabulous! I hope you are very proud and by the way you look fabulous in this video as well!
Really good video, at the beginning I was worried these are going to be some basic questions that has been answered by everyone. But it surprised me! Really good questions and even better answers thanks for this :)
So on shooting with a model, it sounds like it basically comes down to who approaches the other. If the model or agency approaches the photographer, the model/agency pays the photographer. If the photographer approaches the agency/model, then the photographer pays. Unless there is an agreement up front that time is being donated and the only "payment" the model receives if the final photos. And if you're doing just a "test shoot", then it should be for donated time, and the model getting copies of the final photos.
Hey, when do you know you’re ready for a wedding? When you build up your equipment or what? Cause I have nothing but my camera and a couple lenses but there’s clients asking if I can do their wedding and I don’t think I’m ready for that responsibility😭
Itzel Medina I just shot my first solo wedding a month ago for cheap to gain more experience. I’d say be a second shooter with someone more experienced (I did 2 weddings as one and learned a LOT!) and also shoot your first solo wedding for free (for a friend, family member) to gain more confidence 👌🏼 edit: I was doing videography not photography btw
Just make sure that the couple understands that you are new to this and that they aren't going to get the same quality as someone who is an experienced wedding photographer. Make sure you are very clear with them and you fully understand what their expectations are. Don't do it if you feel the couple are expecting more than you are capable of because you feel less than confident and second guess yourself the whole day. Make sure your first weddings are with couples you feel comfortable with and who are understanding when it comes to you what you are capable of based on your lack of experience with wedding photos.
Jessica. U are so gorgeous and funny and smart! I love your glasses too. Love the look. Ps. U should have a photography retreat. I would def go! It would be so fun and u would have fun too and make money
I have a question!! I hope you see this, or someone else can chime in here. I’m a beginner photographer, and I was wondering how you accept money? Like payments. Cash only? Do you accept checks?? All the shoots I’ve done have been cash only. Just curious as to how other photographers approach this.
I've often wondered about people submitting images for the local news stations free images. They used to pay photographers now, they get them for free. Doesn't seem fair to me. But, people are so thrilled to get their images on the news they send them with pleasure.
Hey, I think it'd be super beneficial to share how to store photos and share them with clients (like multiple ways to do so) especially as a student I don't have money to pay for fancy storage so I just put them on Google drive. I really want to be able to give clients photos with enough quality to print. (For example my senior photographer sent me my photos from a high resolution package thing and I don't really understand how to do that with my own photos)
Thank you Jessica, it is 100% helpfull. If someone like you would have done that 20 years ago maybe I would have pursued in the fashion field :( As you, I did wedding shoots to be able to pay my rent and all the expenses for photo. Shooting with films cost a lot at this time (films, prints, etc). Your answers are exactly what people need to know. Also I have never been asked by the agencies to pay fees, hopefully, but it requires a lot of guts to push their doors and ask for models when you are a beginner with a book full of friends pictures :) One thing, sometimes they told me that it would be great to find a designer for my pictures (I already had a make-up artist, found in a make store, working with me for free, and sometimes a hair stylist).
Hi Jessica, I've always wondered how does the copy rights works for photography. You're shooting a model but is it your photo because you created it or is it the model's because the photo is about her? Or is it both persons' work?
I've always been curious as to how you have the models/agencies/clients pay you. Is there an online site that is your go to, is it normally checks, stuff like that
Hey Jessica! Can you do a video challenge with a model doing 1 pose without changing the location or background? I want to understand how many beautiful photos can you get by moving the photographer changing the angles, lenses, perspective, and position to make the most of a photo of a model doing only 1 pose ☺
Not sure if any other Australians experienced the same. But I found being in Australia, the 10% discount for Squarespace is pointless as the gst ends up giving us only $3 off haha sucks.
My daughter and I are beginners and we were wondering if you have any recommendations on the best desktop and laptop to use. We need to purchase something new and wanted to make sure we got something that was worth the money. Thanks
I just have a question. What do you think is the best way to contact, say, a clothing company or a jewelry creator, to promote your service to photograph their products for their website? as in a collaboration for example. Do you recommend this to help build a portfolio/ clientele for fashion photography in hopes of working with larger companies in the future? Thanks!
Hey Jessica, what camera would you suggest for a first camera that is good quality but not to expensive. Would love a Canon 5d Mark iii but can't afford one. I would be doing a lot of portraits and photos of my animals and flowers.
A very helpful video, thanks! This is probably going to sound a bit stupid but could you maybe explain more stuff about lenses? For example, I would love to know more about what lense to shoot what type of photography with and why. As a beginning photographer it's hard not to get lost in the endless world of lenses 😂😂 I hope that that is not 'too beginner', but it would be a great help!
I don't even do agency model photography (I'm a wedding photog), but I still love listening to your advice and videos! Thanks for being so honest, not talking down, and just being damn entertaining. P.S...I played Neopets too!! :P
you should do a video where a beginner photographer and a professional photographer (you) both shoot a professional model
That would be dope... Def a put a lot of pressure on the professional...
this would be grand!
That's such a good idea!
I love how Jessica tells us how she does everything and provides what she could to help us out, unlike other people who keep everything like it’s classified info lol. Thanks Jessica!
Next series please:
„Turning a supermodel into a stranger“
Juan Quispe This made me laugh so hard lol
A stranger into a supermodel maybe?
Ledi Ledi she has done that video already!! it was uploaded last week :)

but please with sorelleamore in the video
Scarlet Squig yessssssssssse
Sorelle inspo
Thank you Jessica! I am so happy that you are so willing to share these things because it helps others to develop themselves as photographers, you don’t reserve you knowledge to yourself but share it and that is one of the most beautiful things you can do as a professional. Thx.
Could you make a video of how you should size images when sending them to clients to choose from, or through email and stuff like that? (If that makes sense)
Yes! I would like to know all about formatting and sizing too!
Just got my first camera
remember to get a cheap 35mm and 50mm f1.8!even try out the cheap 40mm macro!no matter what brand u use!get the nifty fifty and learn to love the time it takes to get at least 4-6 good photos out of 50!

SAY NO
I’ve just graduated university with a photography degree and I have a trail shift as an image retoucher tomorrow 😅 I’ve been watching your videos for a while now so hopefully I’ve learnt something.
I should be sleeping right now but Jessica is life. Hahahaha
My main question is how do you start out with wedding photography? Here in Las Vegas I figure it would be a good business to get into but I have no idea what the first steps would be.
To get an idea you can type "How to be a wedding photographer" in to Google.
I’d do a wedding shoot for a family member / friend / colleague first to build a portfolio and understand the business. Most of wedding clients come from referrals!
If I’d be in need of a wedding photographer I’d most likely look on instagram for photos in my area and ask who the photographer was
I'm about to do my first wedding shoot for a friend in January so I'm nervous about it but hopefully it builds on my portfolio.
Marves Rivas Just make sure to capture the most important moments and you’re fine!
I have been BINGING on your videos. I just wanted to say that I LOVE that you are so encouraging to beginner photographers. Thank you J.K for spending the time to answer, five questions, really interesting. loving the glasses they really suit you.
This is so helpful! Please do another one of these, possibly a series?
I really love your feedback. I've been a makeup artist 12 years and done UA-cam for at least 7 years and I am just getting into photography. Was thrown into it actually because my mother is an agent. Your videos are helping me piece things together. Thank you
You should do a recreating old photos video!
haha i love Jessica. your videos are always the best and this one right here is on another level as far as helping out your fellow photographers
Hello Jessica. Can u present for us exactly what means a photoshooting? U know... How long do u spend with the model, how many pictures u give, how many pics u edit, how much do you charge... Etc... Just present one of your photoshooting package
Love the glasses, you look great with them, Jess
I found you on YT, thank you for doing this, please keep making your videos.
One of my favourite photographers - thank you for inspiration ✨
Jessica, you truly inspire me. Thank you so so much for all your tips. I hope one day i am lucky enough to work with you one day.

SO FRIGGING HELPFUL! :D Thanks, Jessica!

Thank you! Super super useful information and validation. I hate it when people don't pay or don't understand how test shoot works.
This gave me a good idea for a lightroom tutorial! Keep it up. I have followed you for some time Jess
This was so helpful, thanks Jess!
Kobeissi tell me why this video doesn't have more than 1m views you're giving such amazing advice!
Wow Jessica! Congratulations on 1 million subs! I think you only had a few thousand when I started watching you so this is fabulous! I hope you are very proud and by the way you look fabulous in this video as well!
Youre such an inspiration... love you
Great content. I was afraid at first it would be super beginner but i got a lot of info from this, especially contacting an agency
Thank you 🙏 this was super helpful and informative
This video was so so helpful in so many ways! I never even thought of half the things you said😱
Really good video, at the beginning I was worried these are going to be some basic questions that has been answered by everyone. But it surprised me! Really good questions and even better answers thanks for this :)

Uploaded 1 minute ago and already know it’s going to be good
😂😂😂The turning page part had me rolling! Thanks for sharing such great info!
This was really helpful! I'm a beginner myself and don't really have anyone I can ask, so this helps a lot!

Omg one million subs!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!
THanks for making this video, I truly need this advice! Thx! Ilysm 💖💖
Now do a video answering advanced photographer's questions!
Big thank you! Those were defenetly questions i had.
What kind of photography do you mainly focus on or gave a passion to do. Also have you ever been published in a major magazines.
Hey.. Put the post about mobile phone photography.. Please.. 🙏

Now I need the self confidence to apply this.
Hi Jessica, I've always wondered how does the copy rights works for photography. You're shooting a model but is it your photo because you created it or is it the model's because the photo is about her? Or is it both persons' work?
Copyright belongs to the person who takes the photograph, unless they do it under employment.
Gotcha
How do you copy right photos that you take as a photographer?
How to know if the picture we edited is perfect or over or under edited
Please do more Q&A!!
Lovely video Jessica, it really helps us photographers ✌️
Also next series "4 non photographers take photo of photographers"
I've always been curious as to how you have the models/agencies/clients pay you. Is there an online site that is your go to, is it normally checks, stuff like that
You’re looking so good!!!
I love your hair color!!!!!!
That didn't feel like a 11 minute video... THANK YOU.
You are incrediblee!!!❤🏵🏵🏵🏵🏵😍😍😍
This is really helpful!
Any tips for someone starting a brand, looking to get brand photos taken for their website? What would be the best way to go about this?
Good video! The glasses are cool!!
I have a question, what would you recommend as the best lighting setup for a beginner? (easiest, quickest, cheapest and not natural light)
Do you happen to use a flash when doing your outdoor/street portrait shoots?
My daughter and I are beginners and we were wondering if you have any recommendations on the best desktop and laptop to use. We need to purchase something new and wanted to make sure we got something that was worth the money. Thanks
I just have a question.
What do you think is the best way to contact, say, a clothing company or a jewelry creator, to promote your service to photograph their products for their website? as in a collaboration for example. Do you recommend this to help build a portfolio/ clientele for fashion photography in hopes of working with larger companies in the future? Thanks!
Her eye glass prescription is a - powered lens.
Do you usually do weddings alone? How? If not alone, how would you price help? Thanks
wondering if you could make a video on how you edit the photos?
Hey Jessica,
what camera would you suggest for a first camera that is good quality but not to expensive.
As a beginning photographer it's hard not to get lost in the endless world of lenses 😂😂
I hope that that is not 'too beginner', but it would be a great help!
I don't even do agency model photography (I'm a wedding photog), but I still love listening to your advice and videos! Thanks for being so honest, not talking down, and just being damn entertaining. P.S...I played Neopets too!! :P
