Chigg, that thick piece of leather with the rivets looks to me the equivalent of a brake shoe but for a covered wagon. I am not saying thaats what it is 100%, but they used leather like that to even stop the very first cars. That went all off 3-5mph.

Sapsucker woodpeckers drill a line of holes in a long fiber tree so that the out-flowing sap will catch bugs and they come back later for a feast.

The little handle/grip is part of a 16-1700s era toy gun, sometimes called a petronel.

What a beautiful dog~. Question: Have you ever found a Hostess Twinkee yet? (just kidding). You know,....if I had to be resurrected back into this life when life is over,.....I'd hate to be Beau's washing machine. Is that one thing you dug up a massive suspender clip or is it a pitchfork for a squirrel family? (My former classmates said: "you're always cutting up". God help us if we loose our sense of humor.). Thanks for showing us the sapsucker workings. I always learn so much from Chigg.

The iron disk with lead reminds me of the way the canister shots were made in New Orleans, Louisiana for use by the Washington Artillery. Due to the tropical climate, wood sabots would rot, iron sabots were coated with lead to prevent rust.

Sapsuckers aren’t after the sap; they’re after the insects that get stuck in the sap. They make the wells and come back to revisit them periodically to harvest the stuck insects.

Since Jim got that Louisiana button it got me thinking that you should do a showcase of your best buttons. Maybe even a series of videos where you show your best buckles, shells or proudest finds. Of course giving us some classic Chigg knowledge in those videos. You might be saving those type of videos for when the legs and back go kaput though, I understand.

Chigg, ...Enjoy your videos from here in Ohio. I believe the thing you think is to a suspender clip may be the inter teeth to an 18th c. neck stock buckle. Found a very similar fragment on a Col. Bouquet camp from 1764, and have seen similar complete buckles with that style on clasp. May want to look some up.

Often I offer the property owner all the finds in exchange for permission. I cried when I dug two VMI buttons on a property near New Roads and the owner took them. But they were proof that the cadets had either camped or crossed the property. The owner gave me permission to come again and wouldn't take anything, but I decided against it.
