There were definitely fancier buildings in some viking villages. Especially the mead halls and jarl's longhouses. They weren't all rustic and utilitarian. As with most cultures, they revered expert craftsmen and decorators, and would worship their gods and tell stories through decorations. Every wall and pillar was carved and painted. They may not have all been rich, but you didn't have to be rich to use your hands to beautify your space. There were certain decorations that only the richest would have access to through trading, and yet the poor still had access to them through raiding. They took slaves as well, but it wasn't like other types of slavery, where regardless of your previous occupation you'd be forced into hard labor. Craftsmen and skilled laborers were given special accommodations and had a quicker path to citizenship, and often times would skip slavery altogether, as the vikings who took them would immediately free them and hire them instead. But considering even the kings and jarls worked their own land, even the slaves that got hard labor weren't typically mistreated, as they were seen as imported coworkers, not necessarily property. And when they were mistreated, they had the right to bring charges against their master at the lawspeaker. Honor was a big part of their culture and cruel slave masters were seen as dishonorable. People were even outlawed on occasion for mistreating their slaves. Outlaws were forced to live like vagabonds, and anyone caught giving aid or comfort to an outlaw would be outlawed as well. They weren't just violent, unkempt barbarians with bare walls and no sense of humor. That would be the Germans. 😅

Yes there are other builders out thee that makes those ridiculously beautiful buildings. But why compare, yes watch them and learn new techniques. But don't compare. And last I am an Norwegian, coming from a viking nation. To some in here, when did vikings ever have horn on there helmets? Here in Norway we have 2 big Viking museums that I can think of One in Oslo that displays Viking ships and the one in Lofoten that has a replica longhouse. But none of those places display vikingens with horn on there helmets, but drank out of horns. But back to the video and your build, great looking village.

I doubt quite a bit that this is historically accurate. Just for one example it bears no resemblance to the actual Norse settlements found in the North East of North America, what the Norse called Vinland. North. Besides, the most famous swords were the Ulfberths which is a Frank pseudonym (that's the pedantic side of the guy who plays himself a historian). 😏In any case, a nice example of creativity.👌
@@CROM-on1bz Thank you for a rich lesson of history, your comment is top and very suitable for the video, now we have some extra context too for the village.
Poor blacksmith 😂
Except it's missing villagers :) I truly wish Valheim had that aspect.
@@steppahouse You and me both buddy. I could have gone for mods to add vikings, cattle, pigs and all the other animals - but I wanted to do it in vanilla Valheim this time.
What seed did you use and where is it on the map, im asking because that's a really nice terrain that i just cant manage yo find a place like that
@@Vergils-Chair I will get back to you with the seed in a few hours, I don't have acces to my PC right now. Also, I will tell you where to find the island. 😉
@@KPRoofthank you man
Here it is: XdLuIIy9hm ( II in the middle are capital letter " I " as in ITEM) - The island where I built the village is close by the main spawn location: after you spawn look towards the ocean then hug the shore and keep to the right, eventually you'll get there! Enjoy! 😉
@@KPRoof thanks for taking the time to send the seed😀👍
@@Vergils-Chair Don't mention it, it was my pleasure to help! 😉❤️
Can you share the seed of the world? It's a really beautiful area that I would love to do something with!
Great job Klauproof

@@KPRoof Thanks!
@@Asirra95 My pleasure! ❤️👍
Great video! I am a big fan of realistic builds. I would love to try and make some but for sure cant do it in HC given how it would all be destroyed in one troll raid lol.
Thanks, I'd love to see you build somehting in "creative mode" - I am honestly worried about your base when the troll raids will come - you need to get some dirt walls around or they will wreck everything, they tore down my gate in one swing 😅
@@KPRoof Yeah I am going to add more dirt walls after the flooding and cart incident anyways.
@@NotYourBuddyFriend_ You were amazingly funny with that cart that wanted to become a boat.. 😂 It was a good portion of fun!
Can't wait for your next episode. 👍 Good luck!
love it!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!😁
First I must say great video, why should others you call great builders criticize your building technic. I watch other UA-camrs playing this game that just build something weird just to keep them out of the rain and somewhere to sleep.
Haha, thanks for the apreciation! It's a game thing, horns may not have been used in real life other then drinking, but they are used in the game and most people relate them to vikings. I get that they are not real, but let them be for this video 😅
Raised moat surely is just flat a ground :D
@@super8hell Moats weren't mandatory, they had natural defences sometimes like, rivers, hills, forests, clifs or just ocean. Sometimes they had just a fence or stone wall, other times they had stake walls or moats. Those were mentioned by me in the video 😉
@@KPRoof but moat is a ditch, dry or filled with water. if you raise a ditch you'll get a flat ground :D
@@super8hell My bad, I meant raised dirt as a wall. I forgot the term - ups! 😅
Dude Mind If I share This content with my friends and Family.
Can you please Make a Video on each house you made step by step and the concept and the designing that you did. With the Architecture and other details ?
@@diabolic_edits_27 Haha, sure I can do that, you csn also share it with anyone, thanks for doing that!
I can do a video like that this week. 😉
Cool video. Check out a game called aska. Might let you do this project a little more realistic. Survival viking villager management game
@@matthewscheer7722 Thanks, I will check it out! 🙂 Unfortunately for now, given that Valheim is still under development, the game is pretty limited in terms of building, but for the future, we can totally add more details 👀
it's a nice village design but not historically accurate per say.
@@eriandhor Thanks! Please do tell what exactly would make it more accurate?
So my fellow scandinavians,
You can always trust foreigners to be experts on how our forefathers lived here in Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
@@ghaffir Hehe, got the information from the internet so if they are not accurate, go blame Google! 😂
Dude. Don't mix my favorite game with my heritage and then be cool on top of everything if you don't want me to watch your video.
@@sampsonsampson 😂 My apologies mate, I just wanted to have some fun with the village. Glad you enjoyed it!
I doubt quite a bit that this is historically accurate. Just for one example it bears no resemblance to the actual Norse settlements found in the North East of North America, what the Norse called Vinland.
Not your fault really, very very few people know much about the Norse mostly due to the Catholic church making a centuries long concerted effort to make it seem like no one else in history was civilized.
@@shanerasmussen5225 Thank you mate, I got my information from the internet, not from actual archeologists who visisted sites. This seemed to be the general shape and structure of the village. Also I had to make do with what the game provided so I was pretty limited. Next one will be a bit better 😉
