Pissin the night away would be like getting drunk with your friends I believe
At least in west coast America "Pissing away" means "doing nothing with" it was used in comments like "Stop pissing your money away" or "You're just pissing your life away" or "I just pissed away my weekend" so in this context it basically means you're not doing anything with your night but having a drink and remembering the past.
But this was a British song, so the meaning could be different.
tub-thumping - adjective - expressing opinions in a loud or aggressive manner 😊
Exactly, back in the old days they would actually have a tub in the square of the town and to get everyone's attention you'd thump it and then say your piece. That was in the UK.
In England “pissing” means getting drunk.
I don't think so - pissing here in the UK means urinating, but 'getting pissed' or 'pissing it up' or 'on the piss' can mean getting drunk depending which region you are in.
Really? Not sure how old you are but I'm in my late 40s and would normally say "So and so is pissing it up or getting on the piss". Kinda means the same thing as "Pissing the night away" here in Australia but hey that might be old language us GenXers use still 😂😂
'Pissing' on its own means urinating.
Getting pissed means getting drunk.
Pissing the night away means getting very drunk all night with your mates or whatever.
But yeah, just 'pissing' is urinating.
Bro.. This was my Brothers favorite song when it came out ... 3 years before he died from a disease (At only 23)!! He lived his life knowing he was going to die early. but he fought so hard.. that this song became his anthem 3 years before he died.. as a matter of fact.. I think this song made him live 3 more years... I LOVE THIS SONG!! R.I.P. BRO! P.S... My brother was diagnosed with a rare decease at 2 yo.. said he wouldn't make it to 5 yo.. He lived to be 23.. despite what doctors said! So when this song came out.. it related to him.. since 2yo.. he did nothing but get knocked down.. but he ALWAYS got up again! Perfect song for my brother! Thx for doing it!!
We all got knocked down and got up again when this banger hit.
They're a hardcore political band that decided to do an upbeat pop song for fun, then refused to follow it up with a radio friendly album to troll their record label.
Yeah, that confused the heck out of me as a kid, I hear this poppy song on the radio, buy the album, and it's all this anti-establishment stuff..."What about free speech? It doesn't matter, I've got my reputation to think of."...that whole lobotomy/brainwashing scene...The Good Ship Lifestyle? Amnesia? It only took me a few years until my rebellious teens that I figured out what they were getting at and I've loved them ever since...
And they donated most of the money from it to Anarchist and Left-Wing groups.
They're basically punk as FUUUUUUCK!!!!! 💯
I think they should have followed this up with a radio friendly album in order to make maximum commercial money from this. ie They should sell out their beliefs for the almighty pound (LOL).
Yes. This is a Pop song. In the 1990s songs with this sort of "shout along" energy were also called Jock Jams because of a popular CD Compilation series by that name. Chumbawamba had been well-established on the Anarcho-Punk scene in the UK for fifteen years by this point and they decided to write a hit. Their status as a one-hit wonder was VERY deliberate. And it is still a party-pleasing banger. Hard not to enjoy while it's playing.
This is correct history. They had a socio-political view and this hit song if listened to and looked at deeply is much more enlightening than it seems. Great song.
Now I'm going to have this song in my head for days. Thanks tons. LOL
This song was FIRE at the clubs I went to here in Australia. Pissing the night away means getting drunk... Decades later still love a bit of tubthumping (I still don't know what that means but hey, I don't care! 😅).
Pissin the night away basically is a way of saying getting hammered all night long..
such a fun and positive song. 90's vibes all over! :)
This would be blaring in our boat shop on Sundays, and in every bar in Vancouver. Even the ski hills had it playing on the slopes. An uplifting gem! Thank you.
Check out “i’m too sexy” by right said fred. You asked for another fun song. Well here you go🤘❤️
You need to think of the British meanings. She is saying pissing the night away, or loosely translated, just getting drunk. This song is meant for English football (soccer) supporters, as some lyrics are chants at the games.
There were a couple of other songs which came out in the 90s.
The first is Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) by David Baddeil and Frank Skinner with the British rock band The Lightning Seeds for the 1996 UEFA European Football Championship with England hosting it. It was also rereleased in 1998 for the Football World Cup.
The other song is a bit of a novelty: Vindaloo by Fat Les called Vindaloo represents one of the favourite foods the English people used to eat while watching football (soccer) on television.
This song is for those who are drinking with friends at the bar, but it was heard EVERYWHERE. Another song you need to listen to is Jimmy Castor Bunch- Troglodyte.
You want a similar hit song with the same kind of brassy energy? Try "The Impression That I Get" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, which reached #1 on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and #23 on the Hot 100 chart in 1997.
Not only is that a jam but it is a great video
This song was such a vibe in the late 1990s!! I was living & working in NYC from June 1997 to October 2004. I was dancing to this song on-stop in bar in NYC during 1997 & 1998!
It’s tub, like bathtub, tub of butter, tub of guts, three men in a tub, etc.
I was gonna pissin the night away but your friends chat handled it! Great work Shon!🎉
Damn the 90' was so fun❤🎉😂
Tuned in from the sunny island of Aruba! Feeling the good vibes you produce here! If you haven't done New Radicals You Get What You Want yet, check it out! One if the ultimate feel good songs out there! Yea Mon, Big Up Yaself!
I would like to see you react to How Bizarre by OMC. For me it's a fun Summer type of song.
It's definitely a Bop! Haven't heard this in a long time! Thanks 🧡 Much Love!
Chumba is definitely not a one hit wonder, although it was their only real hit, I mean on charts and radio. The band is kind of post punk and the song I believe was a bit of a joke on their side, which took off on its own. Brass is a trumpet, the girl who sings "pissing the night away" plays it. Chumba was great band which deserves to be know for more than just this one, check "Give the Anarchist a Cigarette", or "Homophobia", or "Time Bomb"... They were active for like 30 years and recorded some 15+ albums, all of which are good. Much love for Chumba here.
Legendary song.
"We'll be singing when we're winning"
Man this brings back so many memories! Graduated in '96 if that helps! lol
You perfectly described my first reaction to this song!
I remember when this song came out. I just got my first car at 16 years old and when this song came on the radio it got turned up and sang along with.
🇬🇧 This song was HUGE (here in the UK at least) back in 1997. A song that definitely gets the party started. ❤🎼🔥
i'd refer to this kind of music Hype Pop/Rock; music that gets you hyped up and gives you good feels and has you feeling ready for anything. It also could be like stadium rock/pop songs like We will rock you and other songs that are easy to sing along in a crowd. Other songs with a similar feel of Tubthumping to me would be like: Len 'Steal my sunshine'; OMC 'How bizarre'; B52's 'Love Shack'; Survivor 'Eye of the tiger'; Tom Cochrane 'Life is a highway'; Mathew Wilder 'Break my stride'; Dave Dobbyns 'Slice of heaven' etc. Hugs from Oz :)
Thanks!
I think you have to be English to fully appreciate this one 😂🏴
Not Scottish, Welsh or Irish.........only English.
Wow, fascinating.
I sincerely hope you are not British, as it's usually Yanks who confuse English with British
Went down well here in Ireland too😂😂
This was a huge hit back in the early 90s I believe...always loved it! Thanks Shon! I think it's a trumpet
This whole album is really great! I love all the songs on it.
Her's another song by Linkin Park, if interested. "Breaking The Habit - (Official Music Video) [HD UPGRADE} - Linkin Park" (by the channel: Linkin Park) --This song is from their second studio album called "Meteora" released in 2003. And it became the fifth consecutive track from this album to reach #1number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. It has very strong elements of electronica synthesized sounds in their intro to the song. This was a departure from their previous "nu-wave" and "rap-rock" performances. The concept of using anime in music videos was somewhat still a novel idea. So, the music video used here by "LP" was truly groundbreaking as they were one of the first to exclusively use the style of "Japanese-anime." peace out~
If you want a very English song (as opposed to British) you need to listen to Vindaloo by Fat Les, but you will appreciate it better with a lot of explanation about the context and some of the characters in the official video which is hilarious and helps explain it.
2:35. TUB thumping not ""tube thumping"--hahaha! Think banging tubs/lockers in the locker room to get HYPED!
This song was inescapable in the late 90s! It was everywhere, a huge radio hit, and I still get happy when I hear it.
well, that's gonna be stuck in my head for the next three months now...
I'm not a fan of the group.. but I remember this song and drinking a LOT to it at parties..
Pissin' the night away is drinking and getting drunk all night. It's a British slang
They also had a song called "amnesia" that was featured in an NFL ad back in the day. Its worth checking out.
Something somewhat in this vein, pop folk/rock big airplay verging on overplayed. The Proclainers "I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)"
You gotta check out their song: Mary Mary (stigmata mix)
I hear u like the harmonica. Check these out:
#1 Midnight Cowboy 1969 Harmonica Theme. Midnight Cowboy was best movie in 1969.
#2 The Waifs - Crazy Train - Wave Aid 2005
U can thank Fred.
For a real treat, please please please react to The Rumjacks. They are badass. You won't be disappointed. For a first song I suggest Irish Pub
Other great songs by Chumbawamba include Amnesia and Timebomb
Never heard it before, but it was good. Thanks Shon
👊Love ya man
BTW, LOVE your reactions!!! ❤❤❤
Definite floor filler, the ultimate pub song.
❤ it!!! Thanks Shon!!!
The brass is very bright, ie high pitch, so I'd say piccolo trumpet (smallest/brightest version) or ordinary. Please Shon, react to another 90's hit/bar song, "Semisonic - Closing Time". This one is such a feelgood tune
Hey Shon, you want another song with a similar energy, try The Dandy Warhols and 'Bohemian Like You' I reckon you'd love it! 🙋♂
Yup👍
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - REACT TO THE SONG - EVERYTHING FALLS APART BY THE BAND DOGS EYE VIEW!!
IT IS SUCH A GOOD SONG BUT THE BAND WAS LIKE A ONE HIT WONDER AROUND 1995ish.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN NOT EVEN ONE REACTION TO THE SONG SO YOU WOULD BE THE FIRST BUT I THINK YOU WILL LIKE IT. ITS A BANGER TO ME AND IM SURE LOTS OF PEOPLE WOULD BE LIKE DAMN I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THIS SONG
Suggestion: for some unusually fun and informative songs you might consider 2 from the band They Might Be Giants.
Istanbul and/or Particle Man. The former is probably the more popular one but I dig the latter just as much.
I would suggest One Step Beyond by the group Madness for some fun
Not my favourite song or even genre but this explains me to a tee, lol! ❤️🇦🇺
start up a SKA playlist-you re in for a treat if you like one hit upbeat wonders
You should check out AM Radio next.
try "you're sick and beautiful" by joy luck club
Trumpet!
HU!
It's a trumpet.
It's tub as in bathtub, hon. :-)
Drip, Drip, Drip- another Chumbawamba song...great song to do plumbing by in your piece of crap tin teepee, also played it loud when had to replace ceiling and condensation on metal made it rain, inside, song cheered me up... 🎵 Drip, Drip, Drip, goes the water ... 🎶 Liked the whole album...I was fixin' to Fire, Water, Burn, by the Bloodhound Gang- 🎵 We don't need no water, let the Motherf*** er burn, Burn Motherf***er, Burn 🎵 Yep. Chumbawamba made me laugh in the face of cruel adversity, and likely reason I still have a home, such as it is...thank you Chumbawamba.
React to Heavy by Linkin Park, Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day, and Amerika by Rammstein. I just disco ered your channel today, and I'm on like hour 4 of watching. Keep up the great work.
No cookouts for you.......EVER!! 🤣🤣😂😂😆😆
Jesse Colin young : ridge top
"Can't Hold Us" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (feat Ray Dalton) is your next song If you like this one. Same energy and similar message.
And then try the Pentatonix version!
It's not really the same as this song, but The Impression That I Get by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones has sorta similar vibes to me.
Bay city rollers,,,,I only want to be with you.
I think you’d like Tequila by Terrorvision if you like this
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO LMFAO
This damn song. The definition of overplayed, but it holds up for what it is.
It’s pronounced tub, like rub
trumpet is short, trombone has the long tube and tuba is big and fat ... for starters !
It’s quite humorous the lack of understanding that Americans have of the English language tub tube 😂😂
Pissing the night away just means pretty much doing nothing productive.
tubthumping tub as in bath tub not toob.
this song is so annoying still.
pissing the night away means drinking the night away in the uk.
at the end of the night you'll be pissed(drunk)
or trollied.or paraletic which means your beyond pissed your falling down drunk cause your legs don't work properly.
That is tub, like the one you have a bath in. Not tube at all. British humour, get in your bubbly tub and start thinking, get loud and tell everybody off, where nobody can hear you.
Another great reaction Shon. Thanks.
This song is tastefully distasteful and 1000% pop. You're correct about its fun and positive energy. I recall Bradford Marsallis (or was it Winton), musical director of some late nite TV talk show and master woodwind player from NOLA, totally dissing this song for its simplicity, repetitiveness, and crudeness. Total musical snobbery from a Jazz musician who gets to play whatever and however he feels like playing regardless of tempo, key, or composition. His jealousy over the band's commercial success blinded him to the energy that made it hit. Never liked that guy after that.
Branford Marsallis, NOT Bradford. Damn Autocorrect!
Hmmmmmm
I'm not sure the message was intended to be motivating in the way you think it was - getting knocked down but getting up again is not referring to overcoming obstacles in life.
It sadly refers to a typical weekend in a British town or city centre with drunks fighting and getting knocked down, only to be so drunk they get up again for more of the same
'Danny Boy' is a famous Irish song stereotypically sung by drunk men.
Sees: TUBthumping
Says: TUBEthumping
Also, Dude....."pissing the night away" means wasting the night away NOT peeing. Pissing something away is wasting it. How have you gotten to be an adult human being and have never heard anyone say somebody was pissing their life away or pissing money away??? And how do you think "tub" is "tube"? Do you have a bath in a bathtube? Jesus H. Christ.
