Online course "The Essential Guide to Any Motorcycle Traveler": rtw-adventures...
Finally, after many months of waiting and hundreds of questions when I am going to do it I had the chance to ride the new Yamaha 700 Tenere. Actually, I was invited by the owner of the bike to ride it and make this in the debt review. I am so happy to say that the model has everything I need. Powerful engine, beautiful design, good suspension, the right wheels combination, and the great Tenere spirit. After I spend a couple of hours, riding it in any terrains I can confirm that this will be my next bike. It has some small cons, but they are nothing compare to the feeling it gave me and the will to go around the world. For me, this is the perfect adventure motorcycle! The price 10,000 euro sounds like a lot and definitely is, but it is still the cheaper bike in the category. KTM 790 is around 15,000, BMW and Triumph even expensive, so I think that Yamaha did a great job with this model.

Well, well, well! What a discussion I have made! I never knew that this motorcycle is like the most wanted!
First I want to say thank you to all of you for taking the time and watching this long video! It was absolutely my pleasure to ride the new Tenere and share my experience with you guys! Second, for everyone who asked me to compare it with KTM 790, what I will prefer KTM or Yamaha, or point me the extras KTM has, TFT display, better suspension, low center of gravity, traction control and many more... I said once and I will say it again: I HAVE ZERO INTEREST ON KTM MOTORCYCLES. I am not saying that they are bad, no! They are great bikes, but not my type of bikes. I need simple and reliable motorcycle. Also I did not said that this Yamaha is the best adventure bike, what I said is that it is the only one I want. The only one that suit me and my type of trips. All the best !

Haha! Can't be more clear then that! Even used all Caps! People put too much emotion into their decisions and often have a "team" mentality. They are on "team Honda" or "team KTM", etc., and almost act like it's a personal insult if someone doesn't prefer their brand/team, or just simply prefers another brand. As our good friend who makes us these free videos often says...."What is the best bike.....it's the one that you have....it's not what you ride, but that you ride and go take on an Adventure". For some that might be taking a Goldwing around the block or across the country. For others that might mean taking a Supermoto to a vacant parking lot and trying to perfect stoppies and wheelies all day. #TeamMotorcycle

Did anyone else read this with his accent in your head?
Totally agree though, I bought a tenere for the same reasons when comparing it to the KTM. I almost went with the 790 because at the time it was heavily discounted to make way for the 890, but there are too many horror stories and I really don't need any of the extra tech.

I have done 5000 km now with my Tenere 700. All kind of roads and some offroad. It has been great bike in my opinion. I am not also a small guy and I want to say something about the suspension. If you are a big guy or with a lot of luggage you should use rear preload and it really works. There is also rear rebound adjustment screw and compression damping screw. Front fork there is on top rebound and bottom there is rubber protection thing and under that there is screw for compression damping. I think the suspension is not bad especially if you do some adjustments. Seat is also not as bad as it looks but i might replace it because my ass starts to hurt after 2 hours. Great bike and nice review!

About one year ago I saw this video and I was really dreaming about this bike.
Now, after all sort of adventures (also get a bike driving license was an adventure during this pandemic) I finally got my T7!
I think I can add just one thing to your perfect review, I'm a new rider and the T7 is my first bike, and let me say that it's a wonderful bike for a new rider.
It feels so light and handy, and its engine is so capable on low rpms that it's really really easy to ride, also for new riders.
If you're messing with the gears it's not a problem at all, just a little twist on the throttle and the bike will run perfectly without any shaking.

Possibly the best mc review I have seen on youtube yet! By anyone! Caught myself with a huge grin on my face when the video ended. I already decided to buy a Versys 650 this coming spring - and then this comes along. Confusion and bewilderment!?!!. I almost never ride offroad, but I think this bike has the potential to become the next legendary adv bike after the original Africa Twin. If I buy this and ride it a few years on road I think I will have no problem selling it afterwards. Thanks to Motorcycle Adventures I now know all the goodies and baddies about this bike, and this next weekend I will go and see for myself. Congrats on your best video yet - and have an extra big scoop of scimbé Chiorba. Thumbs up!

I have never made a comment o youtube or any other social media platform till today. I started on 50cc mopeds in Poland in the late 70s as a child on a Jawa Mustang. I have grown up in the USA , 600 cc was a small bike. Real bikes were 1000cc plus. Then I moved to Asia where 2 valve (more torque) 135cc engine made more sense then 250cc high raving 2 cylinder/4 valve "high" performance engine. All the locals were buying the 250 cc bikes, it was the ego. Yes I was thinking of a better seat, 6th gear and a bit more cc, but was doing ok 95% of the time.
Today in Indonesia I did a little 200 km trip on my Indonesian built Honda CRF 150. Air cooled, 12 hp, 5 speed tiny little brother of the Africa Twin (I guess). True 80 Km/hr is bit too fast, true I stayed on side roads but......I had an adventure. I had the local lady at the beach food shack look for a wife for me. The fried rice that came was huge, I shared it with the local bum/or grandfather.........yes shocking he gave me a cigarette. Leaving the kids waved, the ladies were pissed that I did not finance the new bride and the village, but they also waved.
While I was returning home I thought of the new 2020 Africa Twin, Apple Car play???????? And the KTM, and electronic suspension and all the rest.......
My bike has manually adjustable valves. One hour and 3 beers, fun times. It has an integral centrifugal oil filter, supper efficient., take off the side cover, nothing in the way! It is a motorcycle, plain and simple.
The Tenere is just that, I understand that you need more then 150 CC in europe, but what we need is back to basic bikes. Thank god or whomever you believe we have a chance to still get a motorcycle and not IPhone app.
From a bigger gun, the global push on CO2 emissions (which is a plant food) and the global agenda (lies) to get us back to walking and eating plankton shit, this might be one of the last chances to get a motorcycle and not some sort of application. Finally the price, once again when you have central banks printing (out of thin air) money at an alarming rate 8K euro is just a stupid number.
This reply is getting long, Pavli is the real motorcycle traveler, I hope to follow some day. All I am pointing out is some of the obvious things you see once you leave the EU concentration camp.
    Did I say That???

OK Boomer. Perhaps it had been better when you didn't write any comments. Can't believe that a person with Polish roots describes EU as a concentration camp. Let's start saying that any motorcycle travel like this would get much, much harder if not the EU. Have you ever been to the Polish-Ukrainian border? I think not. Yep, these are semi-closed borders in practice - 5 hours of waiting in line. Regarding the global agendas you wrote about - I don't have any words, just stay outside of Europe if you don't like it.

Not sure about 16litres because I only like feeling up only once a day and the map dictates my route , not fuel stations.
Also I am not sure about carrying the good lady on the back on the pillion seat.
I wonder if they will make a more pillion friendly version with bigger tank?
That engine and gearbox in my 23litre 660 chassis would be perfect.

Its interesting to see the difference around the globe and our different situations of riding. that 16ltrs might be fine around the globe in other spots but, like you, taking this bike on any of my canadian rides would not work. I need min of 20ltrs and that's only allowing for a slight margin of error. 16ltrs just not enough too bad. So, this is where we see the difference in who bikes are built for and maybe where the big sales are. What a great bike, not for me and my adventures. Kawi is secretely building a new adventure bike, mid size, lol

Hi, Thank you very much for your review. It was long awaited.
I have just returned from testing the T700 and 790 Adventure R and would like to share my very brief thoughts.
I am currently planning on getting a new bike, so I have ridden both. And could not decide on the spot (not taking the price in consideration). So I keep asking myself, what bike am I coming from and what will I use my future bike for (It is very easy to like and be overwhelmed with a stronger engine bike :-))...The answer gets clearer as soon as I specify my preferences and how much am I willing to do compromises. Will I lean towards the comfort/touring/traveling/cruising/sport/on road/off road or other...etc...
I think the KTM is better weight balanced bike with lower center of gravity due to the (a bit weird looking) gas tank. This concept works very well on and off road. The 790 Adventure (not the Adventure R) has even lower center of gravity due to shorter suspension travel. This bike really feels much lighter than 209Kg. Ergonomically, it is quite similar to my G650X Country. So not much here for me to get use to. Everything fits. All the gimmicks of the engine electronics including the switchable ecu maps work amazingly well. The engine is quite loud and does not sound so smooth in comparison to T700, but has a very decent pull, especially in higher revs. Overall is stronger, everywhere, which is easy to like. I think this bike will allow you to push harder when riding on and off road in comparison to most likely any ADV bike in this weight class. On road due to powerful engine and brakes and off road due to impressive weight distribution and suspension. If this is what you are after, the KTM may be a more interesting bike, especially for pushing faster on and off road. Its qualities are justified by higher price in my opinion.
KTM feels more sporty and has lower center of gravity, which is always better. The engine is more powerful but louder, and as most of the KTM engines wants to be ridden harder and in higher revs.
    Test bike consumption: 5,2 L/100km
However after test-riding the T700 again (twice already), I was so pleased that the T700 was a very easy traveling/cruising like bike, which can do some serious offroading (much better than are my skills and aims). As I am coming from the BMW G650X, as expected, I can tell it is heavier than my bike and has higher center of gravity (higher than my BMW and higher than the KTM). Ergonomically, it feels longer, my arms are more stretched in comparison to the KTM (I am 1,78m). I would welcome to have the bars a bit closer. But nothing serious and definitely something I would most likely get use to. Its a bit less powerful (in comparison to the KTM) yet still in every way sufficiently strong engine is so smooth and gentle that you want to ride it all day long and in any gear. It does not disturb you when cruising or traveling, however it can show it has some balls when you need it. Plenty of power. And it sounds great. Both, the engine and the muffler. For travels and cruising, I loved the ability to be able to ride in the 6th gear all the way from 45km/h and up. Brakes are really good and the stopping power is more than sufficient, even for hard riding in twisties. The brakes easily outperformed the stock tires grip when hard braking (21°C). However I must admit that the KTM brakes may seem to have a bit stronger bite, which is the part of the KTMs more sportier character. Suspension? I have not even come close to the limits. Much better than my G650X in every way, on and off road. To be honest, I don't see any difference to the KTMs as I am not able to push so hard, especially off road. And it can be fully adjusted. So a giant step ahead of my previous experience with my BMW. T700 is also a fair bit cheaper, but Yamaha was not cutting corners anywhere. In my opinion it is a high quality and highly capable bike. It does not have any cool gimmicks as the KTM. My current bike does not have any either, so I would not miss them. But I am pretty sure, once I had them.....:-). Wait! Do I really need them? Or, do I just want them?
In my opinion the T700 has a more peaceful temper and with its very easy riding smooth engine it can be very pleasure-like bike to ride. It can also be quite agile, sporty and fun motorcycle, however it may not reach as high as the KTM in this discipline. This is especially due to the weight distribution and maybe the engine power. But to be honest, the difference is not so crucial. These are still enduro-like/adventure bikes, so the limits are set first of all by the rider, than the weight and wheels. Who wants to push harder goes for different class (Duke 790 or similar / or 690 Enduro or similar.)
Here are the questions: Does not to be as sporty mean worse? How much sporty do we really want to be?
    Test bike consumption: 4,3 L/100km

I have one, so far 5.600km. Have to correct you, ABS switches off front and rear. Im tall as you, but 75kg, suspension is harsh, which can be fixed with clickers to a degree, but fork revalve would do a better job. Other than that..its a hooligan bike, if you feel like it. Rear tyre is showing signs of wear as im really not sparing the bike, but front like new. Tyres not good for slippery mud, front just slides away. All other surfaces ok.

I don't know about the tenere but I got a 2019 MT07 and the back was also a bit harsh for me (with all the gear I'm probably 80kg), 2 clicks for less compression feels better now, very easy to change with the included tool (tenere even easier with just your hand) and I could also mess around with rebound if I wanted

    • @dennisoven9259
      @dennisoven9259 5 років тому

Clicks only affect slow speed compression, which means that if you reduce compression, it dives more on braking and is somewhat softer at slow speed bumps, but is still harsh when hitting larger or sharper bumps at greater speed. This is done on purpose, otherwise people would ride too fast over harsh terrain, resulting in more injuries.

Great review :) after your crash video I am revisiting your old videos as I just tested a T700 myself last week. Awesome bike. I might not be the first one to point out but the bike has fully adjustable suspension front and rear. Damping and rebound on the front fork (second screw is on the bottom of the fork) and Preload, damping and rebound on the back (both screws are on the shockabsorber). The only issue people like me (85kg dry weight) might be the spring, when adding luggage, gear and maybe a passenger, a harder spring might be in order.
