Kate actually based this song on one of the movies made on the book - the story is that she saw it on television one day; the scene was Heathcliff rushing into one of the rooms with the window ajar and hearing Cathy's voice calling from the moors. I'm guessing it was the 1938 one with Sir Laurence Olivier since it fits the description best (plus it's a very good movie, you should watch it).
Weird one, I recognised the setting for the video tonight and looked it up. Salisbury Plane Training Area, where we used to fire our Artillery amongst others. The trees are not natural to the area and were only planted to represent Germany, ie the next battlefield.
Over in Australia, and also other countries, many cities host an annual event titled "The Most Wuthering Heights" day of the year. Everyone involved congregates at a local park, dressed in red. The song is played and everyone performs this dance while trying to sing along (obviously after many a practice dance) :) All ages, all genders, and all cultures
Love this song, this video is incredible...she really makes a huge almost hypnotic impact, like a beautiful elf...its a knockout blow this video, with the looks, song and dance, all just hypnotically good...the song is great as well...really good song.
She's actually a ghost...this is the part in Wuthering Heights when Kathy comes back as a ghost and is looking in the window at Heathcliff. I'm not sure about her background in dance but she was professionally trained mime...
"Outerworldy" is perfect - if you know the novel, and I bet you do, Catherine is a ghost coming home. A fact only revealed if you read the novel :) And honestly, this Lady is only 18 when she wrote/recorded the song. After signing her contract and having to wait to be 18 before she was allowed to record/release she spent the money from the contract in interpretive dance lessons with Lindsay Kemp and mime training with Adam Darius. Great reaction, bring back more memories of our youth! By the way - why not have discover your community some of those great canadian rock bands like April Wine, Triumph or Rush? :)
No, Kate's not a classically trained dancer. Her focus was learning Mine techniques from the late Lindsay Kemp, who also taught David Bowie. She probably took some dance classes but her technique is in 'movement'. The genius that is Kate.
@@normandavidtidiman9918 She did do some dance training before Gilmour discovered her, but only as part of the school curriculum......and she hated it because of the teacher. Her serious training didn't commence until after she scored the recording contract.

There are global flash mob dances called "The most Wuthering Heights Day". Looks fun from YT videos. It is funny that you thought the tights are a bit much. I love it, but my first viewing was that it was all a bit much. Now I'm all in!
I first developed a crush on Kate Bush in Wuthering Heights back in 2011 when I was 19. My mum would insist on playing this song during the Christmas period.
I believe Kate was only thirteen when she wrote this song and was only sixteen or seventeen when she performed this ,I was eight years old and heard it on the radio at my aunties in Manchester England .😀🇬🇧❤️🏍
First seeing you guys i was like.... ohhh..cause i wasn't ready for you..but as i delve in to your reactions i realise... yeeees... this is wit i feel 😆 i absolutely love both of yous..amazing channel...
i don't know if she can hit those notes anymore but - no one would know, bc she doesn't tour or perform live, ever. so it wouldn't really matter. i think she did like 20 shows in 2014, some big elaborate production in London that ran for a bit, and other than that she hasn't done a concert since the 70s. i did hear that the 2014 shows didn't include stuff from the first few albums. i think the earliest material in those shows was mid 80s stuff like Running Up That Hill.
I'd forgotten about that connection! You're right about how great Pink Floyd is. For my money, Comfortably Numb has the most enjoyable guitar solo ever. -M
I listened to Kate Bush since the 80's and she will always be one of my favorite artists. Her music takes me away from this reality. Just a question, are you guys familiar with music of Happy Rhodes? I'd recommend "Ode" or When the rain came down" Subscribed to you now!
Nice one guys... oh, hang on a minute... ahem...... FIIIIIIIRST!!!!! (Sorry: had to be done ;-) ) Yeah, so anyway, when I bought my first CD player in about 1985, the deal was that you got five CDs with it, and one of the ones I got was The Whole Story: a Kate Bush compilation with a new version of Wuthering Heights featuring a new (and better) vocal on it. Not long after, I got a portable CD player, and then an old family friend came to visit. He'd never heard a CD before and didn't see what all the fuss was about (do you remember how magical they sounded when they first came out?). Knowing that he had a weakness for pretty female vocals, I made him listen to The Man With The Child In His Eyes, on headphones, on CD, for the first time in his life. He literally cried...
I found out recently that she wrote this song after catching the end of a 1930s movie that was based on a book that was written in the late 1800s with the same name
Can I just say that I think Mike has got great taste. You said that he had a crush on KB, but you then went on to say about how much you like Kate's aesthetics like the flower in her hair which made me think that perhaps you and Kate aren't all that different in terms of your tastes and the type of person who you are. Perhaps that's what helped attract you to Mike.❤

I think it is safe to say: there was never a singing voice quite like hers. The notes and range are just...otherworldly.
That's absolutely the word. -M
When I was a kid in the eighties, Kate Bush occupied the place in the heart and imagination as knights, unicorns and fog draped castles.
I first heard (and saw) her when I was 5 and I don't know if I've ever recovered. There are events like that in your musical life.
I love it that when she talks about the song, she says "that is not me singing, it's Cathy!"
A true innovator that knew exactly when to stop, leaving a perennial insatiable hunger for more.
I think you've hit the nail on the head! - M
Very well put!
You have just witnessed the most magnificent portrayal of a tormented ghost like never before. Wonderful artist. Read 'Wuthering Heights'.
Thanks for a lovely review of the wonderful Kate Bush, the Queen of British pop music.

Woody Shambler I believe the version she saw was the 1967 BBC remake.

Pulse concert version of comfortably numb great solo
The guitar outro to this song is Gilmore…..
I'm not sure Kate would appreciate saying she'd been "founded" by anyone 😳
Ian Bairnson played the guitar solo at the end.
Kate Bush is a genius. I have been a fan for decades.
She’s so talented in so many ways
Kate is an absolutely beautiful person
This is my favourite video version. The dress is fab.
She was the first woman to get to No 1 in the UK charts with a song she had written herself.
I gather that Kate Bush employed the service of "hand movements" coach something that Freddie Mercury had also done.

A MAJOR TEAR-JERKER NOT TO MENTION EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
Simply beautiful
Kate had professional dance instruction into the 90's. I saw a video in the late 80's of her in dance studio training and getting instruction.
she trained at dancing and mime at least as early as the late 70s
@@HockeyNationHD That's true, but in fairness "into the '90s" is referring to when she stopped. Not when she started.
Glad you like our English legend
Love her! -M

There is another version of this video a English version was a studio version which in my mind was a lot better and more artistic.
The first lady of modern music video dance,in my opinion.
i love kate bush
Sadly, this never made the Billboard Hot 100. The second single,” The Man With The Child In His Eyes” topped out at #85 in early 1979.
