Honestly, I prefer this type of video over hearing about the books everyone is talking about. Please do more of them!
rincey reads It’s so nice seeing you in my comments, Rincey! And thanks for your kind words 🙈 I’m so surprised at the incredible response this video has had, so I’ll definitely be making a sequel!
Yes definitely!
You love George Orwell (so I love you), but are you into JOAN BAEZ? Alejandra Guzman?
I realize Im kind of randomly asking but do anybody know of a good place to stream new movies online ?
@Lionel Markus flixportal
I looooooved this video so much. Please do it again. That Frida journal looks stunning. Books about underground and the Underground are always interesting. Flaneuse is a book I’ve been debating for a while it got quite the UK buzz for a while. Ps. I also loved your competitive reading video but couldn’t think of something coherent to say.
SavidgeReads thank you so much, Simon!! 🙈
Unpopular, neglected, unsung books? * pulls up chair & ginormous bag of popcorn *
haha that was me!
I love this! I'm so sick of reading the same, hyped, YA books... Rainbow Rowell, Cassandra Clare, Sarah J. Maas, John Green, I love you all, I just need something different. I don't want to be judged or questioned for reading that small book that is simply filled with short stories about somebodies everyday life by an author people have never heard of, or the non fiction book that someone saw on their parents' bookshelf and would never think to pick up, or that history book that people just have no idea why I'm reading because "you're not even in school Shannon, you don't have to read that!" etc etc etc. I read to learn. I read to escape and not necessarily to Hogwarts or Camp Half Blood, but instead to the real past and present, just those that aren't MY past and present - to the minds of those who have lived before, and into the lives of those who are walking the same earth as me now. I cannot get that from the books in the "most popular teen fiction" section in Waterstones, which is why I am SO thankful for these kinds of videos.
I think when booktubers show unpopular books, that's what brings out their unique personality the most, so it is always interesting to watch, much more than the same books all the time. And why would you think noone would be interested in these? Most of them sound really interesting to me. The Frida Kahlo book looks amazing!
Thank you for talking about books that no one else is talking about! Personally I do not want to hear 1000 different opinions about the same 3-5 books. I want to hear 3-5 solid opinions on 1000 books that may interest me.
Catalyst Reads Yes, I have stumbled across some interesting booktubers who are reading more diversely, but they are much harder to find. If you have any recommendations, I would love to hear them! Thanks in advance!
Irrelevant Reader
Yes! My thoughts, exactly!
OH MY GOD arriel , your videos are so different and outstanding ! please do more , especially chatty ones

Books I want to read that nobody cares about...95% of what I read falls into this category I think, haha
I loooove hearing about everyone else’s interests when it comes to the different types of books they love! Especially when the books are “unpopular” it opens up new doors for others as well.
It's refreshing to see a booktuber who talks about diffrent kinds of books. I would love to see more.
I know. I've found a few.
THANK YOU and any youtuber who recommends books people don´t talk about. These are my favourite kind of content on here!
Speaking as someone who writes books that nobody ever reads, this kind of video is a huge public service. The writing community is richer and more diverse and healthier when you walk off the beaten path a little. Please keep doing them!
Spanish was your first language??? WHAT?!?! (I’m currently learning Spanish) I rarely read any book-tube-popular books, unless it’s something I’m really interested in but I love booktube as I love seeing people’s enthusiasm around reading and I do sometimes find new books I want to read. While I don’t want to read these books you want to read, I do want to see your excitement and passion and love for reading and your anticipation for these books! Please please do a part 2!
Her mom is from Honduras. If you go back to the first few videos on her channel, the ones filmed in front of a brick wall, they were actually done there as she was living there for a while.
Crocheting Canuck that’s so interesting. I’m gonna go look

Even though this is 3 years old it is gold. Thank you for staying away from all the hype and all the YA
What a lovely idea for a video! Please make more of these 😊I love how you are (I think?) the only big booktuber who talks about niche/obscure books. It's encouraging for other members of the community because it's easy to get the impression that reading tons of super popular YA new releases is somehow a requirement. so... just keep being you :)
I have been on a personal mission lately of finding booktubers that talk about lots of different kinds of books. Been going well so far and really keeps me away from the fatigue of seeing everyone talk about the same book over and over again (though it can be fun to read a book as a part of a huge community, too).
Super Pao That sounds like a great mission! :) I quite agree: it is nice to read hyped books too because of all the people who read them at roughly the same time. That said, I would love to see Booktube become more receptive to other, lesser-known books (such as these!).
Super Pao one booktuber i watch who is in to very different books is sophie carlon go check her out I think she is brilliant
check out Ashley from climbthestacks she reads a lot of adult literary fiction and I believe some classics too
Thanks for the leads! I am familiar with some of these channels (love Climb the Stacks!) Also love Littlespider9, she reads some great books that are definitely not what most people are talking about.
I love unpopular books.
Narwhal Queen, same!
This is the video for you!!!
:)
Yes! Same with unpopular music, movies, and other media. Makes me feel a bit like a rebel.
You're paving the way for adult booktube - go for it!
Teresebooo Peter Monn started that trend
If you can talk so passionately about books you haven't read, I would absolutely love to see a video of you talking about these books /after/ you've read them! This video was amazing and so much fun, and I'd love to see more of the niche books you're interested in!
"reviewing books nobody cares about" ... I HAVE A THING NOW.
But people /do/ care! xD There are whole corners of Booktube full of people talking about niche books and non-fiction and biographies! Look at all the people commenting saying they love seeing this stuff. :)
I loved this video. It’s like walking into a good indie bookshop and finding a book that you never would have thought to look for. I’d love to see more like this, good job!
That Frieda Kahlo book is BEAUTIFUL!
Everyone on booktube always talks about the same damn books, so this was really refreshing. I look forward to the next one!
i wanna be as enthusiastic about something as ariel was about her books in this video
Aha this video is really cool and I'm actually interested in really similar niches. I'm so glad so hear someone else who doesn't hate Yoko Ono as well! She's one of my favourite artists and I find her really interesting.
It's not a controversy that you've invented, it's a real thing! I didn't take the module but there was one in my university about the art of letter-writing and one of the core themes that it tackles is the right to privacy. Should we read them? Should we publish them? Does it really matter? We're so interested in providing such a distinctive line between the dead and the living that it's interesting that we cross that line to provide (metaphorically at least) new life to the individual(s). Anyway, rather a long tangent to my initial idea for this comment of: loved the video!
I would love to read that George Orwell bio!
Also, the fact that people write about the most bizarre, random, seemingly uninteresting topics and that at least 1 other person reads it gives me hope that maybe one day I could write a book that at least 1 other person on the planet might read!
That's such a great take on this! Anything we write, someone will probably like!
I want more unpopular books talked about! Keep doing these!
Your Passion is Infectious and the very reason I looked up book reviewers in the first Place ! PLEASE DO MORE !
PLEASE DO ANOTHER ONE OF THESE!!! I like mainstream book reviews but I LOVE hearing about new titles I wouldn’t have found otherwise (I read Birds, Art, Life, Death because of your review and adored it!). I’m definitely gonna be checking out ‘Why Poetry’ and ‘Flâneuse’ because of this 💛
I can always trust you for a confidence boost, haha!
Thank you for doing something different. I love that you chose books that are not always being shown. My TBR list just got bigger. Muchas Gracias. Can't wait to read "George Orwell: A Life", who is one of my favorite authors, and the book on Frida Kahlo. The "Why Poetry" stood out to me. As soon as you pulled it up, I was like "I must have that book". Anyway, love this video @ArielBissett!
It’s so refreshing to watch this, as so many booktubers are obliged to talk about the books they’re sent rather than the books they actually find interesting. The way you speak is so lovely btw (sorry if that’s a weird thing to say, you just have really good diction ahah)
I’m watching this 2020, I haven’t been on UA-cam for years untill quarantining and I forgot how amazing! And HAPPY YOU MAKE ME FEEL! I’m a book freak! And now I’m looking at what booktube is and it’s fun and cool but you grew with your fans and I love that! Nothing but blessing and more reading!
I get so sick of seeing the same books over and over agien.
I love a good unpopular book recomedation.
Maybe obscure books become popular when Ariel Bissett talks them. I for one, am adding that Frida Kahlo diary to my TBR now.
i love all your videos because of the reason that they are different from other booktubers'. each one is intriguing and insightful
I found your video refreshing and amusing, because I can relate. I get these obsessions about random things or people. Then I search out every scrap of information I can find. Sadly Nobody in my personal life cares about whatever topic I’m obsessing about at the moment. And nobody on BookTube does either. You’ve reminded me that it’s okay to read these books and push the MUST READS aside, take my time, and enjoy the books I really want to read.
Yes, please keep doing these videos. As much as I love, and I mean LOVE, YA books, I do get a little tired of the genre sometimes.
Loved this! It’s so refreshing to see so many “different” videos on your channel. It really makes you stand out. Love your content. Please make another! Keep up the good work!
I'd watch videos about any of these books! It's so interesting and we actually get to learn some things and engage in deeper conversations. I really do hope you will consider make book discussions about these books !
Yes, yes and yes to making a part two!!!! I think that the books you read are so interesting, and it's incredible to watch you talk about books you're passionate about!
We need more of this, please!
this is the best video !! thanks ariel !! honestly though, I love it when booktubers make videos about less well-known books. it helps me find things outside of the realm of what's in popular fiction. i also love how excited you get about these types of books. people getting excited and impassioned about what they read is the best part about talking with other people about books.
I know this video is a couple of years old but I just had to comment. I absolutely loved this video! I love watching people talk about things they are passionate about and this video oozed passion!! I can see so much true excitement when you talk about these books and I love seeing someone talk about books that aren’t popular.
I am loving these videos so much, they are different and insightful and they feel so personal. They re so many channels dedicated to popular YA books that we really don't need more of that. We need more of this!
Also, I love the idea of this video. I don't know if it was your intention or not, but you made me excited for books I wouldn't have picked up no my own.
Part 2! I love seeing books that are different than what other booktubers are talking about. I love that you have such a unique perspective and channel!
No sabía que hablaras español! Me encanta la idea del vídeo, besos desde España!
This video was fantastic. Yes! Please do more of them! I completely agree with you that booktube is way to narrow, regarding which books are being discussed. This is actually one of the main reasons I enjoy your channel, because you talk about so many books that a million people haven’t already mentioned. This was a great video.
I actually own the diary of Frida Kahlo as well! I’m planning on it being my first read of 2018. I think it would be so awesome if you did a video all about Frida and the biographies written about her, there are so many. I also highly recommend Frida by Sebastian Perez and Benjamin Lacombe, which is a beautiful book of artwork that tells her life story. Besides that, I found other books in this video I had never heard of but am really interested in checking out! Thank you for always bringing forth unique and thought provoking content.
I'm definitely planning on doing this! I want to make a video about 3 or 4 of books about her!
YES GIRL YES! PLEASE CONTINUE. I loved this. Your passion for these books is what counts and watching you be excited over them makes me excited. I am interested in the Grapefruit book. I might have to check it out! Thanks for the incredible video!
Can you consider making a video in Spanish (w/ eng subs)? I say "consider" cause I doubt you have a lot of time for that. But man, that would be so cool. I'm gonna be taking up ASL next year, maybe something else, but I'm leaning towards ASL, so. But language in general? Good times. Do it ;P
SaruStuff124 yes yes to a video in Spanish?
Yes to this idea! I had no idea she knew Spanish at at all, let alone that it was her first language.
Yes please!!!
I’m always scared when I feel like small you tubers feel discouraged, but this video was SO cool! You’re enthusiasm for the things you love is infectious and I found myself smiling all the way through
I dig the hair today!!!
Thank you! I gave myself bangs in a moment of intense procrastination the other day!
Isn't that how everything comes to be?? Procrastination is inspiration! I think think they're banging!!! hehe
please continue with this i loved it! can only speak for myself, ive been watching booktube videos for years now, but my reading interests have obviously expanded so ive felt distanced from the ya-centred booktube for a while now...this would be such a refreshing format!
I will definitely look into Grapefruit! I did a presentation in AP History about why Yoko Ono should be in history books. My teacher was a huge believer that Yoko broke up the Beatles. I talked about her activism, and I almost turned him over! Great video! I love learning about books that no one talks about. It gets a bit boring hearing about the same books over and over again.
When I first started getting into Booktube, REALLY getting into Booktube, it was so I could discover books I couldn’t discover on my own. This was lovely, Ariel! Please do more! Every time you post a video I’m reminded of how thankful I am for subscribing to your channel all those years ago.
I really enjoyed this video! I would love a second part (or even make it a series because I don't think you'll stop gathering interesting underrated books). You really are a unique person and I love your excitement as well as the way you talk about things and discuss them. I also really liked seeing you this giddy in this video ^_^
DrainedInVenom
I'm completely by you side because thats just what i felt during this video and its my first video and i was like we share alot in comman 😃✋
This video summaries exactly why I love your channel ! Different books, different content, a real opinion ! THANK YOU !!
Minute 4 and I had to pause it and go to Amazon and buy The diary of Frida Kahlo.
I loved this video because it's different. I think it's great when everyone gets excited over the same books but honestly, it can get redundant. I review books on occasion on my blog and I definitely feel the pressure to read what everyone else is reading. I've been trying to not give in to that more lately because the pressures (many of which you touched on in your recent video) have sort of taken a bit of my joy when it comes to reading. I'm trying to focus more on what I want to read and whether that's whatever else reads or not, doesn't matter. Of course, I still love watching people's videos and reading blogs for new reading inspiration!! I loved that this video featured 7 books I've never heard of! So refreshing!!
Why Have I only just found you?! This was a DELIGHT
i love reading underrated books or books that aren’t often talked about on booktube so THANK YOU THIS WAS AN AMAZING VIDEO
Loved this!! Seriously considering doing this for my next video schedule gap (and of course I’ll give you credit for the idea) ^.^
As an English student, I have become very familiar with the image of the flaneur, so I’d love to read Flaneuse!
i love the fact that you can hold an interesting discussion for a while without losing attention or having to edit it all out, it just shows how well spoken and articulate you are. I'm really interested in the frida and yoko books, i love reading books about strong women who dismissed the norms of society and were unapologetic about way they live their lives
Cual es tu autor latinoamericano favorito? Sorry when you said that you speak spanish, I really felt the need to ask....
Luciana Isenrich full videos of Spanish speaking authors would be amazing
full videos of Spanish speaking authors in SPANISH! That's even better
These latest videos you have posted have just made me fall in love with your channel more. This video idea is so great, as it's extremely difficult to find new book recommendations on BookTube anymore. Everyone just keeps reading the same books! I would love a part two.
Hi Ariel I was wondering if you could make some suggestions about feel-good books. I've searched on youtube and every video I found on the topic was centered on easy read rom-coms which are funny and light. That's all good and well, but I'm hoping to come across something with more substance. I've read so many wonderful books lately, but many of them are tinged with sadness and leave me feeling really introspective and sad. I'm looking for books which make you feel hopeful and bright even if they do explore themes which are difficult. I'm thinking of the kind of books that you can read and re-read after a difficult week knowing that they will bring some peace. Any ideas?
Thank you, and have a lovely Christmas ahead :)
Even if it’s a matter I personally would not be interested in you make me feel excited about it just by seeing your passion for it. You can just feel how much you are interested in and excited about these subjects! ❤️
Spanish is your first language? Where you from? Or your family?
Sorry if the question is too personal.
Love your Vids
I feel like your videos are so genuine and creative since you started to talk more about books that you really have an interest in (and less the books you feel like you should read and discuss). I've always liked your videos but now I'm loving them!
Best video title ever.^
I loved this! It's so refreshing to hear about different books, and your passion and interest for them really shows and is contagious. Please make a part 2!
12:30 cracked me up
You should totally make a series, this was so much fun! You seem so ethuntastic to be talking about something new, which is great. I love loads of booktubers, but I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of content since I very rarely read YA, so something like this is super cool.
All of these books sound great. I studied Frida Kahlo last year in my art history class, and it was the best. It was super cool to read about her art, how she perceived the world, also about her struggles with her identity since I too am mixed race Latino/German.
The walking book sounds especially appealing, I love hearing about how different places are represented and how it effects the characters within.
LOVE this idea. #trailblazer! Also: would you consider doing a video completely in Spanish? :D I only speak a little bit of "high school Spanish", but it would be so cool to hear you speak it. Rosianna did a video in Spanish once and it was a whole new side of her that we got to know :)
I love this so much! As a book blogger, it's so difficult to balance reading (and reviewing) things that will interest your readers as well as yourself. You should totally make more videos like this - it's fun to find reads that no one else is talking about!
I care :')
😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
Ariel, Ariel, Ariel...I'm absolutely LOVING your chatty chilled sit down videos
This is the first video of Ariel’s I’ve watched and I’m in love. Someone talking passionately about books they love, regardless if anyone else is interested? Love it!
I LOVED THIS! It is always great to hear people talk about lesser known books that they are passionate or excited about!
I love how unique and genuine your channel is. Please keep doing your own thing :) I can tell it makes you happier too.
Some Booktubers talking about different books:
-Missy from BingeReader: horror, thriller, spooky middle grade
-Cameron from Cameron Chaney: Horror paperbacks (giant collection there)
-Sam from Thougts on Tomes and Kyle from MissKyleReads: Fantasy, High Fantasy and Science Fiction (girls likes big books and can not lie)
-Lala from booksandLala: adult Fiction, contemporánea, thriller a
-Joce from squibblesreads: adult Fiction, genre Fiction, some YA
-Cece from problemsofabooknerd: LGBTQIA+ Fiction
-Kitty from Kitty G and Natashay from myreadingisodd: mix of books
-Sophie Carlon: adult Fiction and weird stuff
-Mercy from MercysBookishMusings: adult Fiction
-Carol from thereaderwallflower and Jessica from PeaceLoveBooksxo: New Adult, contemporary, romance
These are my favorite kinds of booktube videos. I love it! Hearing about different things are amazing
Ariel your talking videos are so wonderful and i really love them! All the books you mentioned were so interesting and i'm really excited that i already knew about the Frida Kalho one. Please make a part two. I really enjoy when booktubers talk about books that are exactly in the mainstream. You get more of a sense in their personal taste and style. Awesome video!
YASSS for the documentary!!!!! Keep us updated! Can't wait!
Just so you know, I am really liking these long chatty videos. I would love to see more of them. You have such unique views and ideas and I love hearing them. ❤️
ARIEL anything you say is fascinating, as you radiate your passion and enthusiasm to everyone around you! Thanks for using your platform to discuss a wider range of literature!
This has honestly been one of the most enjoyable booktube videos I've watched in a while. Really love hearing your thoughts on these books and how passionate you are about them. Please do another!
Do a part two pleaseee. I love hearing about books that nobody talks about in the media.
This is exactly why you are my favorite booktuber! You always talk about new ideas and books instead of repeating the same thing everybody else is talking about.
I've been looking for a book in spanish for a while now so I'll definitely be getting the Frida Kahlo book, although I agree that it feels wrong to read diaries. I feel that way anytime I read Emily Dickinson.
Please make a part two! When I was looking for booktubers to follow I realized they all had similar tastes (lots of YA which I don’t read much of) and they all talk about the same books. I need more of these. I need VARIETY! I’ve also had Why Poetry and Flaneuse on my TBR for a while and it was so cool to see someone else talking about them.
I think this is one of my favourite videos of yours, because these are exactly the kind of books I want to be hearing about! I love how excited you are in this video too.
I....just....LOVE this. Read whatever you want!!! It's great that you take the risk and talk about something that is not the same thing over and over again
I would looooove more of this. So great to hear about new books that everyone isn't already talking about!
I love how enthusiastic you are about all of these books! Your excitement is contagious :D
I love this video, and I love that you have the courage to defy the self-imposed expectations of booktubers and actually talk about books you are genuinely interested in! To be honest, I don't think I would personally read any of the books you talked about here, but that didn't stop me enjoying the video - just hearing someone else talk about their interests is fascinating, and helps me understand why different people like different books. I think it would be a very dull place if we all wanted to read the same stuff.
i recently started watching your videos and can i just say, I LOVE THE WAY YOU TALK ABOUT BOOKS!!!
Yes, yes, yes, a million times YES!!!!!!!! I loved this video! Not only the content, but the enthusiasm and sheer joy that comes across. You can easily tell that you had FUN with this video! Xoxo
You’re honestly such a passionate person! It’s contagious ❤️ Bring on part 2!!
Please do another one like this! I always like hearing about other people's interests because many times I end up finding it interesting too!
I loved your enthusiasm in this video. I will happily watch you talk about any books that are exciting to you. Plus that walking book sounds fab!!!
It's so refreshing to hear about new books that "no one knows about"! Please do a part two, this is so interesting and inspiring!
