My band played with AF in Champagne, IL in 99’. I was so amped to play with Mike Kinsella.
Our drummer who was normally rock solid forgot or played the wrong song altogether the entire set.
It ended with me throwing my bass at him. He looked at our guitar player and said, “I had an off night.”
Funny story now, but at the time I was furious.

cruhg funny thing is I hated the emo style. it's hard to peg bands like American Football and shit like AfI as the same genre. To me American Football is indy or alternative.
One reason it's hard to peg American Football and AFI as the same genre is because American Football and AFI are not the same genre.
Xavier Garnier because American Football is emo and Afi is not emo.
His fucking voice has become so harsh and bad. I love it.
Well on his Owen records he sings a bit prettier than he does here. But yeah hes deff wasted and can't handle the higher notes like he could 15 years ago.

His voice has changed a lot. Listen to anything on the AF LP or EP then L'Ami du Peuple. You'll hear the difference.
t. papaccio This is live. Again live recordings are different,with less quality,it's even different on how it sounds in the rooms (acoustic of it).They're all different sounding,being in the concert,listening to an studio album or listening recorded live. Also maybe he had a sore throat.
I think it’s beautiful that, no matter if you’re an American Football fan or not, everyone gets excited when they hear the intro to Never Meant.
On a similar note, I think it's beautiful that a picture of half a house can hold so much meaning for so many people, and you don't even need to be a big fan to appreciate it.
Guhhh the way the crowd sings the harmonies on "Overly dramatic" at 2:33... absolutely haunting!

Even more goose bump-inducing than the album version. This reunion tour has been an incredible gift to anyone who has ever had the pleasure of listening to American Football and been sad that we would likely never get the chance to see you guys live.

I don’t really care about the emo tag and all the connotations it comes with.. this is a perfect song. It’s a song I play when I think of a specific person and as impossible as our situation is I know she listens to this same song with the same intention and for me that’s the truest sense of love.

I think I first heard this song 18 years ago, and I swear each time I listen to it, it gets better. I don't know if it will ever get better than this version though, with the crowd echoing "overly" before the song speeds up. Only thing that would beat it is if they come to Australia.
