  • The new redesigned Tesla Model 3 Performance 2024, is downright insanity. It has supercar acceleration in Insane Mode with the everyday comfort of a family car at a fair price tag. After a month driving this EV, I'm still blown away in so many ways...but it's not without its faults. So here's my honest review of the new Model 3 Performance covering as much as possible from its upgraded handling dynamics and brutal acceleration to EV range, tech and the Performance redesign.

Performance car experts are saying that the new M3P makes the BMW M3 no longer the standard by which sports sedans are measured. I just took delivery my 2024 Tesla M3P. I have been a BMW owner for over 20 years and must say this car outperforms in virtually every measure. The first thing that grabs you is the superb handling - of course control is top notch and in addition the ride is amazing with its adjustable dampening it remains PLANTED in nearly every road condition. Instantaneous throttle response (no hated turbo-lag) ludicrous acceleration (0 x 60 2.9 seconds) AND it pulls hard up to 155+ mph. Around town this thing is sooo quick!! The new sports seats are unmatched and the cabin is quiet! I plug-in at home with a fill-up around $10-15. Absolute Nirvana. A BMW M3 with necessary options stickers around $90-100. My M3P was $48k with standard Stealth Grey color (qualified for $7,500 EV tax credit). There can be no doubt that Elon set out to take the Best Sports Sedan crown from BMW and succeeded hands-down IMO.

The interior build quality of the Tesla is inferior to the BMW M3 in every way. And although the new M3P Highland is a much needed upgrade over the older model, it still falls way short of BMW standards. And there are still key features missing such as a driver display and HUD, bird’s eye camera view, and the accuracy of sonic sensors for parking. All of which my 6-year old BMW has standard. Yes, Tesla is definitely cheaper, but you are also getting a lot less. And let’s face it, the battery technology is outdated. Solid state batteries are only a couple years away which offer far superior range and can full recharge in 10 minutes. I for one can wait. I just hope Tesla improves upon their interior build quality by then 😉

@Great_America bmw is a luxury brand just like Mercedes and lexus. Tesla does not portray themselves as those brands.
Best bang for your buck is the model 3 performance without a doubt. Now if you are worried about interior quality and niceties than feel free to spend an extra $45k for a m3 competition xdrive.

Fantastic review, thanks Andrew! I'm going to be picking up this or the long range in a couple of months and now I'm definitely leaning towards the performance version because it just seems like such a fun drive, hopefully the lack of stalks is something that can be gotten used to over time. The pickup experience in Toronto is also great. I'll never forget the day I picked up my brand new 2023 LR model. The car was spotless, adorned with a red bow, and came with a “Congratulations” note, which I’ve kept to this day. As I drove out with a big smile on my face, a young Asian couple noticed my excitement. They smiled warmly and graciously called out, “Congratulations!” It was a perfect moment that made the day even more special. It felt almost like a wedding day, haha!

Fantastic review, Andrew, thanks! I don't like the on-screen shifting, but I still really like the 2024 Model 3 Performance. I made the mistake of renting one for two days and um, well, I want to sell my 2023 Performance now and move to the '24 Performance. The only issue is that Uber Red currently does not qualify for the Federal Tax Incentive in the U.S., nor does any color but Stealth Gray. Hopefully Tesla Insurance comes to Australia soon!

Sydney roads are decent but not perfect. The adaptive suspension helps, some pot holes are intense in sports mode, but in comfort mode potholes are absorbed decently. Overall, I'm more aware of pot holes (vs the 23 Long Range) and I try and drive around them if I can

I got a 2024 M3P. Previous cars have been various Porsche 911s and last was a Taycan. Taycan had various quality issues and the car was off the road for 2 days every time there was a software upgrade. Porsche couldn't care less so I looked at other options and bought the Tesla. The M3P is as fast as any Porsche I've own. The chassis is planted and the tech makes Porsche look like they're 10 years behind. The Tesla charging network is better and more available than the Ionic network Porsche were pushing. Range is better than my last Taycan and the price is half that of a new Taycan. The only point on which my old Taycan wins is its brakes are better (when they worked). Also everything is pretty much standard with Tesla whereas Porsche just keep adding the options and charging handsomely for it. Quite happy with the Tesla and really don't miss the Porsche.

15:50 couto's to tesla for making a car that is so safe that it can keep occupants safe even going off a cliff, and having such good safety features... but this right here, is a huge example of the fact that no matter how many cameras, sensors, and tech your car has to make driving safer, if you're a shit driver, you're going to crash. and the thing is, we can eliminate most crashes on the road quite easily, and it doesnt require self driving cars to do it. simply make people require a certain level of skill before being issued a license. when i got my license, all i had to do was essentially drive around the block like a grandma. the hardest part was the 3 point turn inside the cones which if honestly would have been a lot easier without the cones because the cones were distracting to where you can actually turn. it should have just been a certain width space, and told to turn around in that space, only using 3 turns but i digress.
we dont need fancy fsd and AI taking over driving for us to make the roads safer. just make people more skilled drivers so they dont drive off cliffs and crash in the first place. people in manual transmission cars dont crash more than people in automatics even though they're doing more. crash statistics havent gone that significantly down even with the vast improvement in security features and driver assistance features. its all about the operator of the vehicle, and the operator of other vehicles, not the vehicle itself that needs to change.

My delivery of my M3P in Aurora, Colorado was completely the opposite. Huge lines, a chaotic mess, and took over 3 hours for me. Not a great experience at all, which seems to be a common theme. As for the car itself -- completely agree with your review points. It's a fantastic car, excellent suspension, nice interior, friends scream a little on launch, etc. BTW, the reason most of the review cars are grey in the US are due to the US federal tax credits. Any other color bumps it out of the price range to qualify for the $7500 credit (likely more, like the $5k state credit here in Colorado and $5500 Xcel energy credit). Non-grey M3P's will be rare in the US...for now at least.

Lots of folks had damage to their cars and other issues as well (nothing major enough on mine). Another odd thing was that the staff refused to walk anyone through the features of their car (like how to turn off the hazards even haha). black paint tends to show marks more. Stealth gray in the US is the only "free" paint right now but wasn't at launch, so if that's the case where you're at you could have got a white interior and then put a wrap on it of some other color not offered by Tesla that's more custom or even one of the other colors like the red and blue colors that really pop. Since getting the lowest price model also qualifies for $7500 tax credit, so it ends up being $8500 cheaper. Chinese brands have a lower price and even faster acceleration.

Whooo, a supercar slayer. What supercars are we talking about? This Tesla smokes its brakes and battery after a few minutes of spirited driving, it falls behind easily beyond 200 kph on the autobahn compared to any ICE with same hp. Its top speed is not competitive to supercars and so on. OK, in real live testing it is en par from 0 to 100 with a current M3 AWD. Still not a supercar slayer. Is this the first time you guys ride a somehow fast car?

  • @lflyr6287

Yeah yeah....at first the Tesla should elevate their build quality and reliability aspect of their entire car lineup. In 2019/2020/2021/2022/2023/2024 Tesla cars have been in the top 5 car manufacturers on the LOWEST BUILD QUALITY and LOWEST RELIABILITY charts (internal combustion + EV combined).
Tesla cars have been known to be of very very poor build quality since their existence started.

As far as the reliability issues goes....there are countless ones directly correlated to the low build quality of the cars in general.
For example, a Clio Thalia overall looking is of higher build quality and of higher reliability than majority of Tesla cars are.
Elon Musk and his Tesla company are a disgrace to the true name owner Nikola Tesla.

All of that is speculation and is not supported by any reliability survey.
In JD Power's survey, generally speaking, the top pain points are infotainment complaints.. They have said in the past that these are 6 of the top 10 problems:
      - Built-in voice recognition.
      - Android Auto/Apple Carplay connectivity.
      - Bluetooth connectivity.
      - Touchscreen difficult to use.
      - Not enough power plugs/USB ports.
      - Navigation system outdated/inaccurate map.
You can see that JD Power's survey puts a lot of emphasis on subjective criticisms that aren't necessarily reliability concerns. It's also unweighted, so something as critical as an engine failure is treated as equal to an infotainment complaint.
Also, in the 2024 study, JD Power said that a contributing factor to Tesla's placement was the lack of stalks. While a valid complaint, it's a silly thing to include in a "reliability survey".
If you want in actual idea of how reliable Tesla's are, Consumer Reports did a 10-year cost survey in which they asked owners how much they have paid in maintenance over the lifetime of the vehicle. Tesla had the overall lowest cost of maintenance over a 10 year period, lower than even Toyota.

    • @lflyr6287
      @lflyr6287 20 днів тому

@@chewthegum I work in a company where there are 10 Tesla owners, model Y, model 3 and model S. All of them are confessing to multiple build quality issues in terms of inner materials, outer materials, cooling issues, SW issues, stuck pedal gas, etc....practically all of the above official reports that I've mentioned.
As far as JD Power "self-funded" firm goes....these are most likely to be influenced because they are almost always underfunded and are happy to accept briberies and are in fact prone to being bribed.
Facts are that the largest benchmarking platform that has put the survey for 10 least reliable car manufacturers said it very clearly upon what their charts were comprised out of....and they were compiled out of hunderds of thousands of official car mechanic reports from all over the globe. Tesla cars are amongst 5 least reliable and 5 lowest build quality cars in the world.
