    At first, I also was not clear on 3rd strategy. I listened again. The third strategy is different than her first two strategies, because her third is advising what tiles are easiest to collect, as in picking-to-KEEP in your hand -instead of advising what tiles NOT to include (like the first and second strategies do).

      So, although it may contradict the first two strategies it is an interesting consideration because as she says -it is a reverse psychology’!
      Ma Jongg is multi layered and always interesting!

      @@lorhun54 Agree. Mahjong is never an easy game especially because every opponent has different style/strategy.

    let me explain the last srat for u guys that did not understand
    she/he means that when u are about win,you need to keep the cards that the opponents prop dont want
    and most likely to discard like the cards that are already thrown out or the common cards like yi tong

    1:27 Your statistics are wrong. I know what you want to express here but it’s obvious not 100% probability because there are many other tiles, but there is of course a higher chance of getting one of the four tiles if all of them haven’t been drawn yet. Furthermore, it also depends on the deck size as well. Having 50 tiles left with 4 tiles is still a higher probability than 1 tile left with 20 tiles. Therefore, in the former situation it’d be wise to NOT discard while in the latter it is wise to discard.

    Evelyn, I am just beginning to learn mahjong, and your videos are really helpful! Can you make one that talks about how to strategize around making sure you have Yaku? I have been playing with an online game called Mahjong Soul, which I know is Riichi style mahjong. Can you recommend other ways or websites for beginners? Thank you.

      I don’t speak mandarin or Cantonese or any other Chinese language and I understood it. I think she’s just saying the tiles in Chinese but it is well understood when we’re looking at the visuals.

      Basically when you are waiting for the last tile of the set to win you get to choose which tile you need to complete the set. Choose the tile that has meets most of the 3 points in the video. Hope that makes sense 😅

      The terminal tiles will generally be the most discarded, you can use this fact to your advantage when waiting on the last tile. You may want to choose to end your hand on these 'least popular' tiles as there is a higher chance it will be discarded by other players and so a higher chance that you can pick these up later on in the game

  • @SeaDivaMusicChannel

    try to throw the terminal away isn't a very great move, consider most of strong sets or yakumans consist of terminals and honors

    What is zimo in mahjong?

    • @evelynthoughts
      @evelynthoughts  Рік тому

      Zimo means your last winning tile is drawn by yourself instead of others discarding that tile.

      @@evelynthoughts ain't that tsumo?

    • @IronHorse1854
      @IronHorse1854 Рік тому +2

      @@dAmiNatus In riichi mahjong it is tsumo, because riichi is the Japanese variant of mahjong. Tsumo is just the Japanese way of saying zimo. In Japanese, there is no way to write "zi", it's not a sound that exists in Japanese, so they use tsu instead of zi as it is the closest to the same sound. There are several variants of mahjong, riichi, hong kong, and standard Chinese mahjong are the most popular. There is even a relatively recently created variant of mahjong called Red Mahjong which is playable with only 2 players.
