    Video is great and appreciate the help on how to do basic defense as a beginner since i was a bit clueless past the (discard what is already discarded), plus i always thought that its not really worth it most of the time ruin your own hand in the chances of someone else winning, since they are already one step away from it, so might as well push the attack, as 2nd worst case scenario is a exhaustive draw and have tenpai points.
    Also another way to think of it is that by some miracle of chance you are both winning on the same wait and a doble ron lessens the impact or maybe even draw a win

  • @nnnncccc1263

    Wait. Could somebody explain to me the situation at 4:31? The advice is - to destroy Tempai with wait for 2-5 sow while there is only 1 winning tile left. The proposal is to wait for 5 sow(a winning tile for an abondined tempai) to create a new tempai, with a wait for 3-6 pin, which at best wouldb be awaut for 6 tiles. What's the point? Like you see? You are destroying a tempai, then you need a tile with which you could have won, to get another tempai. What have I missed?

    when folding, you recommend discarding honor tiles after genbutsu. surely you should avoid getting rid of their seat wind or the prevalent wind though? i always saw honor tiles as risky discards later into the game when players have declared riichi as it can be more likely they are waiting on a pon. am i wrong in thinking this?

    • @MahjongSamurai
      @MahjongSamurai  9 місяців тому +2

      Thank you for the excellent question!
      It's a bit different. After Genbutsu, you should discard honor tiles, even seat wind and prevalent wind tiles, because honor tiles are safer than suits tile.
      The order of discarding honor tiles should be: 4 visible tiles -> 3 visible tiles (deal-in rate is around 0.2%) -> 2 visible tiles (2%) -> 1 visible tile (4%).
      After considering this order, as you mentioned, it's a good strategy to start with Otakaze and then proceed to discard Yakuhai (Dragons, prevalent wind, and seat wind).
      If you're interested in tips for folding, please feel free to check out this video as well! I think it could be helpful to you!

    Why not richii

    • @MahjongSamurai
      @MahjongSamurai  9 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for your comment.
      Just to clarify, were you asking why you should not declare Riichi when you have 0 or 1 tile left to Ron?
      The reason is that when you have 0 tiles needed, your chances of winning are essentially 0%, and even with 1 tile needed, the probability of winning is very low. Therefore, it is generally considered more advantageous to break the Tenpai and switch to a different waiting pattern rather than betting on such low probabilities.

    Does anyone else find this a little too fast? I know I can pause and go back, but sheesh. Is that why so many videos are so fast? So that they get replays? Not fun for the viewer tho.

  • @davidyoung6331
    @davidyoung6331 9 місяців тому

    Excellent advice, but a comment on Genbutsu. On rare occasions, a person having Riichi, might avoid taking an opponent's discard even though it is a winning (Ron) tile. They might do so if that player is in last place. Rather than Ronning a last place player, the Riichi player might "pretend" that the discard is safe and then claiming the same winning tile from someone who is in first or second place. This has happened at the highest level of Riichi Mahjong. So, a discard from another player after the Riichi is not 100% safe.

    • @davidyoung6331
      @davidyoung6331 9 місяців тому

      For example, let's say the person who has Riichi'd has a three sided wait, Pinzu 2, 5 & 8. The last place player discards an 8. The Riichi'd player does not claim Ron. Now, the first place player, thinking that 8 is safe (or 5) discards an 8 (or 5) and the Riichi'd player now Ron's the first place player. This can happen.

    • @MahjongSamurai
      @MahjongSamurai  9 місяців тому

      Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. However, due to the Furiten rule, in Mahjong, once a player who has declared Riichi has missed a Ron opportunity, they are not allowed to Ron that tile according to the rules; only Tsumo (self-draw) is permitted to win. This is the case in games like Mahjong Soul, where after Furiten, the Ron button is not displayed. In real-life Mahjong, attempting a Ron after Furiten can result in penalties.
      Perhaps what you're referring to is not after declaring Riichi but rather a situation during Damaten, is that correct?

    I hate this type of speaking and the fact that the voice is AI generated makes it even worse, also, your explanations are unclear: what does even mean "you have to discard tiles in this order"? what if my hand makes it possible to do the 13, all honors, four winds and so? If you want to give a serious advice you should even say when (and if) the advice can be useless

      I appreciate your feedback, and I'm sorry to hear that you didn't find the video helpful. Let me address your concerns:
      AI-generated voice: I understand that AI-generated voices may not be everyone's preference. However, because of my Japanese-English accent, I need to rely on it. I'll try to make improvements in AI voice.
      Unclear explanations: I apologize for the lack of clarity. As you rightly pointed out, it is appropriate to include the conditions under which this advice is effective. Given that this video was aimed at beginners, I focused on simplifying the message as much as possible, but I should have been more mindful of accuracy as well. In the future, I aim to be more precise while ensuring that the message remains easily understandable.
      Your feedback is valuable, and it helps me improve the quality of my content. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I'll take these points into consideration for future videos.
