When I once again saw it being played in the movie "Crazy Rich Asians", I totally want to get a set and make my family learn it with me! In oder to count 'doubles'/''tai', you must know what is the current wind and which wind will count as 2 doubles. 🀄Red dragon 發Green dragon 🚪White dragon 東 East Wind 南 South Wind 西 West Wind 北 North Wind Pong takes precedence over Chow. You are only allowed to chow when the player on your left discard the tile.

Yes, both examples you given are correct. For that 7 dots (discarded by the player on your left), if another player say Pong, you cannot chow to make (5,6,7). Pong takes precedence. For the 4 sticks, you are right to Pong. But if another is calling for '4 sticks', you will have to give way. Coz Win take precedence over Pong. In summary: (lowest) Chow, Pong, Gong, Win (highest)
@@es330td A Pong is more valuable because it has less options. If you have two "Green Dragon"s, there are only two other stones in the game that will let you complete them: the other two "Green Dragon"s. If you have 4 of Bamboo and 5 of Bamboo, there are four 3 of Bamboo or four 6 of Bamboo, that will complete that combination as a Chow. Thus, a Pong is considered more valuable. Why would you not Pong? Well, if you Pong, you reduce your options. Suppose you have 3 of Bamboo, through to 5 of Bamboo, and another 5 of Bamboo through to 7 of Bamboo. If you now Pong a 5 of Bamboo, you are left with 3 of Bamboo and 4 of Bamboo and 6 of Bamboo and 7 of Bamboo. Good luck in getting something decent out of that. (Not the best example, but I hope you get they idea.) Is a "Chow" required? If you want to take the tile the previous player discarded, you have to say "Chow". You are not required to make the Chow, however. If nobody Pongs or Kangs, you can just take the next blind stone from the wall.
Best Mahjong learning video of the 10 or 20 I've watched recently. You don't assume people already know things, which may teachers do, and you give us what we need to know and nothing else. Your voice is also very pleasant to listen to. (not sure why some are critical of your narration, maybe some just like to go against the consensus).
Awesome explanation, thank you!!! 😍👏 (Your voice is really comforting lol). Now i can FINALLY start to understand what's going on in Akagi instead of just admiring his badassery; and hopefully i will start playing soon, so i can feel like an evil genius too.
You're an EXCELLENT teacher for the way you break down the information and give it in the correct order. This is crucial for the student's retention of the information. Thank you so very much 💯
Me, I'm gonna get that damn trophy!!!! I'm replaying Zero on legend and having a blast. Just made billions in the real estate game and now I'm just starting the cabaret game. I didn't give it an honest try my first time through. So I'm going to give it an honest go this time.
so helpful! i am playing for the 1st time tomorrow and i also came from the 2.5 minute video with more questions than answers. thanks so much for the very thorough explanation!

That is why I'm here and I was hoping to learn and impress some of my Chinese friends with it 😅❤ your voice is so calming and I appreciate this video. ❤
tip: make sure you put your titles in order like example if you have 3 4 5 7 bamboos like that making it easier to read so you dont get confused. Another example is 1,3,6,8 dots. make sure they are in the same suits too! :)
Amazing! Every single time your explanation would leave something out, or vague on something, and a question appeared in my head, you would literally answer it within the next minute. Very well done explanation and it left me with no questions.
This was an excellent explanation!!! My 91-year-old mother and I just learned how to play at Christmas, and I can’t wait to show this to her to remind her of the rules. I am also going to have my husband watch it as he has always wanted to learn the game. Thank you!!
Finally a video that really goes in depth for beginners! Thank you! I kept trailing to grasp why my hands didn't count as winning, but now itt makes sense!
Thanks for the vid. Question: Does ponging change the order of play in anyway? In other words, if you pong, does the person to your right play again, or does the turn continue as normal?
This was by far the best guide ever, I've been playing on Steam's Mahjong and after watching this video it's completely helped me slowly understand the game. Still a beginner, but NOW I'm enjoying it. Other tutorials feel as if they're reading off a manual. This felt like a normal person explain the rules of the game. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this. This is the most comfortable tutorial I've ever watched, your voice is so soothing and the language is easy to understand lol. Thanks so much!
This is SO helpful! Question on Pong and Chow-- is the only difference between those two that Chow can only be used when the desired tile is discarded by the person to your left, and you use Pong for everybody else?
My question as well! I think chow is to the left only? But...Is pong for everyone else at any time, or just to the person on the right( the person who goes after you)
Thats something i didnt understand also, like why is there that distinction if the rules seem to only be different if the player is on the left of you? Like does chow take precedent over pong if both are called or something? If theres no actual difference then why have two different calls?
Chow (chii) is specifically for sequence calls from your left like 123 and pong (pon) is only for calling the 3rd tile for a triplet and can be called from any seats discard that turn
The Chow is a row of three tiles, each of the same suit, with each a number one higher than the previous. Those could be 3 of Rings, 4 of Rings and 5 of Rings. You can only make a Chow on the table if the player before you discarded it, or making the Chow will Win you the game. The Pong is a series if three tiles, all three with the same image. Those could be 7 of Wan, 7 of Wan, and 7 of Wan. You can make a Pong regardless of what other player discarded the tile. As a Pong is more difficult to make, it has right of way over a Chow. Yet, a Win is even more difficult, so a Chow Winning the game will take priority. A Pong winning the game will take prioriy over that, but a Closing Pair will have priority over that again.
Im a beginner had 5 sessions in the past week.getting clever now.but seeing this post makes it all clear now for me.been seeing so many tutorial here but nt clear or misunderstood but yours is the best clear instructions n will past to all my friends who are learning to pay mahjong.thanks very much...
Thank youu, a game I like to play had added a mini version of Mahjong and I had no clue how to play as they added little to no instructions. You explained this very well. For those wondering, its the game "My Time at Sandrock" :D
Yakuza uses Japanese riichi rules, which is more complicated than what is presented here. Knowing the wind honor tiles matters since depending on what seat you're in and what round it is will determine if you can use them for certain hands, there's a whole hand value system where you need yaku to qualify a winning hand, a points system, etc. You'll want to look up riichi mahjong tutorial videos.
After watching four other tutorials, I have to say that yours is the best. I'm on the fifth episode of Mahjong Legend Akagi: The Genius Who Descended Into the Darkness, and decided I didn't wanna be confused anymore. I'm loving the anime since it's written and animated so well, but this game is so intimidating to absolute beginners. With what I've learned from you, I know I'll have a much easier time understanding what's going on, so thanks a million!
Thank you so much for this video. I watched so many videos including the one you mentioned in the beginning and it was so confusing still. Your explanation was incredibly helpful.

(Not the best example, but I hope you get they idea.)
Is a "Chow" required? If you want to take the tile the previous player discarded, you have to say "Chow". You are not required to make the Chow, however. If nobody Pongs or Kangs, you can just take the next blind stone from the wall.
Damn. Not only is it the best explenation I've heard so far, but it's also read by a girl with a very nice, sooching voice! 10/10
Thank you for a super chill breakdown. Very concise and well put together!
Akagi is really good but confusing when you don’t know how to play lol
I love hearing your voice, very gentle and happy to enter the teachings
Just got a set today, thank you for the tutorial. I'll be watching this on repeat for a couple of days. Now if I can sucker some ppl around me to play
You're an EXCELLENT teacher for the way you break down the information and give it in the correct order. This is crucial for the student's retention of the information. Thank you so very much 💯
i want to know the percentage of viewers watching this because of the yakuza games
Like, a year late but here because of the games 💀
@@adorbsdrama2752same lmao
Aye same Yakuza 4 rn
Me, I'm gonna get that damn trophy!!!! I'm replaying Zero on legend and having a blast. Just made billions in the real estate game and now I'm just starting the cabaret game. I didn't give it an honest try my first time through. So I'm going to give it an honest go this time.
What’s the Yakuza games???
so helpful! i am playing for the 1st time tomorrow and i also came from the 2.5 minute video with more questions than answers. thanks so much for the very thorough explanation!
This is so much better then the other tutorials... Thanks so much! Now I want to order a set because it sounds fun.
I ordered a mini set from " Little Obsessded" I can take them anywhere
I'm Pakistani girl living in China, I have always been fascinated by the Chinese uncles and aunties playing this game outdoors by the streets and in some village areas.
Great ASMR voice. Please do more! And thank you for the easy to understand instructions.
At my 8th year in China, and I needed your video to fully understand this game!!!!! A genuine thank you!
Thank you for this tutorial-so well explained that I feel I can really begin to play!
This was an excellent explanation!!! My 91-year-old mother and I just learned how to play at Christmas, and I can’t wait to show this to her to remind her of the rules. I am also going to have my husband watch it as he has always wanted to learn the game. Thank you!!
Just for other people : this is for chinese rules, cause yes, mahjong has multiple rules (and even more when you include house rules)
Yes, play picks up with the player to your right.
Hey this video’s awesome!! I always wondered what that game was, but now it’s awesome to know!
@@oxiepidge With the pong call being made for any discard in theory this could conflict with another players chow call? if so who gets the tile?
POV: Your grandma just destroyed you in mahjong/goes lightspeed with her other grandma friends
Not only is this the best video I've found to help me learn Mahjong but it's also the most relaxing too, could add "ASMR" to the title
Thank you so much for the easy to understand guide to Mahjong.
Now I can try and get some wins in FFXIV that also has Mahjong as a mini game 🙂
I´m learning so I can play it on Yakuza
Same thing brought me here. =) More MGP!
I'm so glad I got such a concise and easy to understand explanation so quickly, I'm intrigued
Here for yakuza
Thank youu, a game I like to play had added a mini version of Mahjong and I had no clue how to play as they added little to no instructions. You explained this very well.
For those wondering, its the game "My Time at Sandrock" :D
Came here from Yakuza lol
Ty I can finally destroy those mahjong players in yakuza nyahahah
FINALLY! FINALLY A VIDEO THAT CLEARLY EXPLAINS HOW TO PLAY MAHJONG!
If you came here because of yakuza/like a dragon, Don't worry, we are on the same boat.
Ive been trying the substory in kiwami 2 for days :3
Thank you so much for this video. I watched so many videos including the one you mentioned in the beginning and it was so confusing still. Your explanation was incredibly helpful.
you`re still trying to 100% yakuza but you couldn`t understand the 2.5 minutes video, same here, buddy
Thanks for the cool video! You made it so easy to learn this game. And your soft way of speaking makes it a lot easier to follow than other videos.
+99 social credits

Has anyone come here because of Yakuza Games.
Wow, one of the best tutorials I have ever watched in ANY category! You are a wonderful teacher, thank you!!
Yakuza fans are here
This is really spectacular. Thank you. Great instruction I’ve been curious about the game for ages - I could play now. Dope
Sincerely a very good beginner and even the best tutorial, I remember in the 2000 internet to search the rules and learn trough mistakes. I forget the basics, thank you very much!
Best tutorial on mahjong. Finally I can play Yakuza with confidence!
Thanks for making this video.I've been trying on and off for years to grasp this game and couldn't until now : )
The best explanation so far of all the tutorials on UA-cam.
i just found out that i have a set of mahjong at my workplace and decide to watch this vid right after to learn how to play mahjong. thank you very much for the simple and easy to understand instruction❤❤❤
I have played American MahJong for years and am excited to learn the Chinese version. Excellent tutorial. Liked and Subscribed.
Great tutorial. I played a few games with seasoned players who played two different styles and was so confused with the conflicting instruction that I needed to cleanse and relearn. This was perfect. Thank you!
Great rules explanation, and the ASMR at the end was priceless 😂
