FULL DISCLOSURE: I have obviously heard this song before, I've done a reaction to it already. However this is a different live performance, and according to the requesters this performance will "blow that other live performance away". We'll see. Therefore I will NOT be scoring, evaluating, reviewing, or reacting to the song itself in any way. I will ONLY be scoring, evaluating, reviewing, and reacting to the LIVE PERFORMANCE. How's this one gonna go? Only one way to find out...

I think the point of why muse are considered so good live is because it sounds like the studio version, lots of times bands can't reproduce the same sound live and or sound awful, but they truly are great musicians and sound great live which is rare these days.

Honestly I think they should've picked the Mayan live version of this song. The quality is better, the camera doesn't shake anywhere near as much. And the outros are much better than this one. Obviously there's no chance you will react to the same song a third time🤣. Shame though.
His voice is fucked in the Mayan performance. Any show past 2010 is a write off

Hmm. Earls Court 2004 has the best performance of this song instrumentally wise. Vocally wise, I would go for the earliest performances in 2003
As Muse fan, I could see why this version is popular. It ends with the AWESOME Psycho riff before it was actually made into a full song. But as far as the version goes, just another performance by Muse....which don't get me wrong, is still great.
Glastonbury 2004 is the supremacy version
What an amazing performance from one of the greatest live acts in the business.
Who recommended this as the best live version over the Earls Court or Glastonbury 2004 versions? This is probably my least favourite version and I was at that Wembley show. If you're going to react to Muse the golden rule should be the earlier the better.

No performance is "best," though. Every fan has their preference. It's all opinion. I think fans just really love this performance because of the outro, which admittedly, is very cool.
I was going to say. I feel like the 2004 glasto performance has so much energy compared to some of these others, while also slightly changing parts of the songs
@@jackwatson2272 Has more energy but also doesn't sound as full or heavy as later versions like this. Matt's vocals are also more controlled here and just generally sound better, in my opinion. Probably because he was using a different type of mic by this point and his mic control had really improved, so a lot less vocal feedback. I get the love for both versions. Each has their positives.

Haha, I love that the whole review is built up to be an absolute teardown of this performance with you looking like you were in physical pain watching it… And then it still gets an 8.5 😃 anybody mad at this is nuts.
To appreciate the true nature of Muse you have to see them live to get the full force of fun, togetherness and enjoyment that this band emanates :D great score for this as always David your truly fair in your scoring system which I appreciate thanks
Mate 8.5 is a totally legit score, I would even say without any kind of rose tinted goggles on , its about the average score any Muse fan would give. The thing with Muse is that every live show is such an event and with nigh on perfectly reproduced album sound to the live performance, with added flourish, that people get so enthused in the "oh they are the best thing ever live". They are great live because they have that crowd manipulation of a Queen of yesteryear, but that doesn't mean they are they are the be all and end all of music. I think music fans of my generation got so used to album sound being so removed from live sound that to have a band come on the scene with such technical and performance quality made a lot of us go overboard a little. Keep up the great content :)
So many years ago we tried to do a tribute band but never found someone who sings like bellamy so...just instrumental covers 😅🤣

I absolutely respect your score, even if it’s was a 1! I guess the hype is to blame, live performances from muse are *preferred* rather than *superior* … muse is known for their performances being 1 to 1 with their studio counterparts, great live sound quality, and fun outros. (I agree, the video was so frantic it hurt my eyes) I suppose rating solely based on the live performance felt a bit odd, it’s like separating the frosting from the cake. But nonetheless I enjoyed your compliments, comments, and critiques on the video!
Hey David, no hate or backlash at all from me! We are allowed to have opinions and not be criticised for them. You are right in saying this live version isn’t great, it’s not. Don’t get me wrong, replicating the studio sound on stage is rare unless it’s playback, but this is definitely NOT the superior live version. A few folks have said it before me, but Glastonbury 2004 or Earls Court are much more superior and entertaining. Glasto 04 is my personal favourite and would love for you to check it out in your own time, and hopefully salvage any standing you have with Muse :)

I think the one you looking for is Muse - Stockholm Syndrome live at Blizzcon.
I saw Stockholm Syndrome during Pyramid stage, where it was a lottery between this song and New Born. The song energy is just awesome, comparable with Plug In Baby, so the crowd was instantly catching another breath. And then the Pyramid started to move - the multiple steps which made the Pyramid moved up and down in seemingly shuffling pattern, until they leveled above the stage, Matt, Chris, Dom and Morgan got under and with "crescendo" of Freedom (Fake Against The Machine) and each step of the Pyramid was slowly lowered until the stage was literally Pyramid, hiding everything under. BTW, there were screens on the Pyramid steps, so it was like a screen projection - that's when after a moment of darkness the The 2nd Law: Isolated System was shown on the Pyramid.
You should see that one! Joking... You can't. Time machine can't work, sorry.

It's not bad production. It's a bad choice for the camera work style. That's the style that MTV introduced in the 90's. 2-3 sec camera cuts. I've seen the whole concert and it was not like that. The production was overall great

Well everybody have different opinions but the last part of the song (riffs) was very nice to hear. Most current rock and even metal bands can’t even creat such as good riffs in their original record songs. Muse just dropped them out in their live performance …
Yeah, a do-over of this one seems a bit of an odd rquest... the mix/sound quality may be better on this version [I can't remember which version you listened to before] but it's more-or less the same performance, performed just about as well.
I could understand a do-over for something like Micro-cuts, where in the version you listened to, the falsetto wasn't that great [then again, I'm not sure he's ever re-created the falsetto on that as well as on the album], but for this, I guess the problem is that it's by no means a bad performance, it's just as great as most of their other performances of the song.
Hearing this, I know there is a Muse song out there that I really like but didn't know it was Muse. Don't know the name of it either.

Would have gone with the Glastonbury version, but it's still a killer performance.

I get the feeling he's more comfortable exploring simple musical ideas in the most frenzied way than he is in expanding any ONE of those ideas into a crafted "song". So...it seems a little self-indulgent. But, hey, artists! Self-indulgence comes with the territory!

I was at that gig, it was awesome. I think people should respect your original live reaction and maybe stop trying to influence your score to match their expectation.
I agree with ur opinion and pretty much everybody else on here. I can't believe how bad and frantic the camera work was! Maybe because I've seen so many live versions and not watched this one for awhile. I was expecting a 6.5 if I'm honest for the whole experience. Glastonbury 2004 is the one for me for many different reasons,camera work being one of them lol.

i have to agree with David yes MUSE is awesome live but the music is just the same its awesome live because we can feel the energy from the band and because is identical to the studio version.
the jam after the song was nice but that doesn't count as the song imo.

I'm going to recommend MK Ultra, specially this one: ua-cam.com/video/Opf29aQLNnI/v-deo.html the sound quality is amazing (altho the volume is fairly low for some reason must be an editing issue). But it's a really solid song. One of my favourites and it's quite a rare one that people react to.

Respect your score, David. I agree about the video editing. It's horrible. The performance itself is fantastic and the band sounds more full and heavier in this performance than past, but I agree the video almost ruins it. I think fans love this version over some others simply because they love the outro.
I'm with you on this one David. I'm a huge fan of this song (for me, their best song), but this video just gave me headache. It's so horrible! The performance is good, but doesn't deserve the hype. The video sucks!

Again....I guess I have to restate this, since you must have missed all the times I said it in the video....I wasn't listening to the song or taking the song into account at all, because I had already done a reaction to the song. I reacted to, and based my score on the LIVE PERFORMANCE. Showmanship, stage presence, stage energy, crowd interaction, stage interaction, production. Even then, I STILL gave this an 8.5....which by definition is a GREAT SCORE. If you want to see what I thought about the song itself, you really should go check out the first reaction I did to this song, which was completely based on the song itself. THEN....maybe you'll see why your assessment of me and my musical tastes is so far fetched, without merit, and ludicrous. My biggest issue with Muse is whoever edits their live show videos. The god damn camera swaps make my eyes bleed, the live hullabaloo literally has superior versions of their songs on it, but as a DVD or a video its absolutely unwatchable because the guy in the editing room wants me to have a seizure every time I watch it...
well that sucked, the only time this song ever sound good was the studio recording , looked up three live shows and they are all the same this show i think i only heard the drums a couple of times when the guitar stopped

To much hype and what annoyed me the most was the camera work
David, completely agree with this - actually 8.5 a little generous.
Muse are a great live band and this was one of their biggest songs so you can probably pick any version of this song and see a great performance. That's what this was. If you were there in person it probably was mind blowing. But I wasn't and i saw it the same way i saw most other great muse performances (i saw them live at Liverpools Royal court supporting Skunk Anansie, Glasto 1999 and in minneapolis on the Resistance tour).
I don't like being prescriptive and love finding awesome performances that are not the normally recommended ones, but the ones that are reacted to by everyone, because they get requested most, have to be the benchmark others are judged against - they set the standard. That means Stockholm Syndrome from Glasto 2004, Knights of Cydonia from Rome, Assassin from the Mayan and Butterflies and hurricanes from Wembley. It's boring perhaps, but for those songs if you're picking another performance from another venue, it's got to have something about it that makes it stand out from those 4, and the bar is high, they are amazing performances. I can't see any good reason to pick this over Glasto 2004, but i do know there are others that do stand out like The Mayan 2015 performance which is also a bit different being in a much smaller venue. A few others here are shouting out other shows too.
For me this felt like a good rendition of a great song, but nothing more than you expect and my guess is if i watched 10 stadium show performances of this song, this version would be in the middle somewhere.
So i'm puzzled, and curious. What stands out about this version that means the requestors thought this was the one version, the right version, the best version to watch?
Muse fans on reaction videos are hilarious. Whichever video is reviewed is obviously the wrong version, and if it Isn’t they start listing half of the discography to be reviewed.
