i just watched wonder woman a few hours ago, and i've been running your podcasts on auto for two hours or so going through some old reviews while i'm doing other stuff. i've got to say, you were right, kevin, that we are lucky as comic book fans to be living in such an era. counting this year alone, we've got logan, guardians of the galaxy2, and wonder woman. THREE movies which are not only great comic book movies, they are great movies in themselves. further more, they are all great in their own way! talk about an embarrassment of riches!! i'm totally looking forward to spiderman and justice league. what a year, what a lovely year!
Kevin I just watched Teen Titans : The Judas Contract and was crazy happy to see you had a scene! That was awesome! Even if it was pretty short, You're officially a canon character in the DC Animated Movie Universe! Hahah, That's amazing! Congrats dude!
I can see why those might not be counted by some people, as they're not necessarily *superheroes*, so might not get mentioned on a technicality. But you can't really do the same for Supergirl
I'm a solo dad and I've been to those women's daytime movies. The design isn't for women, rather home parents with toddlers and no time at night. However I agree with everything you said aside that lol
keen wats wrong with super girl so a bad guy gets a bit rapeish with super girl and the story is terrible and nonsensical, but how can you hate a movie with Peter O'Toole repeatedly asking if he can squirt in her mouth in one of the creapiest things in cinematic history.
So there is no difference between Superheroes and Villains anymore? Is that what we're saying? Elektra and Catwoman are not superheroes. The first female superhero film was Supergirl 1984 / Wonder Woman is the first female superhero franchise. It's not that difficult.
I love Almao Drafthouses/Flix Bewhouses etc... The food and drinks are always good and their quirky and customized pre-show material is always hilarious
For all the criticism of nerd/geek culture not being inclusive, an awful lot of people seem to be applauding a geeky event that is definitely NOT inclusive. As well as that, if your movement's big milestones are about who you can exclude, segregate and discriminate against, what kind of movement is that? As for men-only screenings, imagine if that did take place. How many fuming articles would we see crying "misogyny", "boy's club", "manbabies" and every other word in the typical broken record feminist vernacular? It's the hypocrisy that's the problem. Kevin told that story about a female fan who stood up and said "I've been waiting my whole life for this" -- and boy, wouldn't you just love to be stuck in a cinema with THAT person? -- but there are millions of male WW fans who've supported her since childhood too. Then they grow up and told that they're excluded because of what's between their legs; almost exactly the scenario female fans have been complaining about for years (only literal, in this case, rather than because of "societal pressure") but it's acceptable because it's men being excluded. Incidentally, all the points I made above? Made by a female critic I follow on Twitter. So, as everyone with more than half a brain already knows, this isn't just "49% of the population getting angry". This is when Kevin and Marc are at their worst. If you didn't approve of whites-only drinking fountains or heterosexual-only bakeries, you're a hypocrite to approve of women-only movie screenings.
The Living Daylights was the first bond movie i remember watching as a kid, but The Spy Who Loved Me is my favourite. Roger Moore will always be my favourite Bond.
Here in Taiwan, you can buy "gold class" tickets for certain movies, where you sit in a recliner with a blanket and waiters bring you food from an actual dinner/dessert/drink menu. It's legit.
If Universal called it "The Monster Universe" they'd be stepping on Warner Bros. and Legendary's toes since they just named their Godzilla/Kong/Kaiju universe thing "The MonsterVerse". So they pretty much had to go with something else.
Any time you tell one group of people they can't come in, it is wrong. 1 movie in and of itself is not a big deal, but on principle it is wrong. Also, I seriously doubt that AMC is telling a guy with his children that he can't go in and see the mommy movie because he is a dad and not a mom.
Barry Nelson played an Americanized Bond in the 1954 TV show 'Climax!' version of 'Casino Royale'; Peter Lorre played Le Chiffre. He was no Daniel Craig...
The working title for the "Justice League Dark" as of the moment is also "Dark Universe." I don't know if "Monster Universe" or "Dark Universe" has been trademarked yet by either company, but it's brand confusion across the board.
Adam Fuqua there is also IP and it is a confusing mess. I think DC should get Dark Verse, Universal should get Monster Verse, and Legendary should go with Titan Verse. legendary if you use titan verse you owe me a dollar or a cameo.
I was just reading an article the other day, it seems WB does indeed have a trademark on "Dark Universe" and are contemplating legal action. I think they may as well abandon the trademark and either go with "Vertigo Universe," "Books of Magic," or "Trenchoat Brigade" for their magical movie since that has basis in the most popular comics.
"I eat... chin" -The Bride The bride was an amazing movie and about some girl power. it also had my man David Rappaport from Time Bandits in it. A movie full of talent.
Dark Universe? So...lots of black, fire and zombie themed clothing, some armor prints, really badass foam swords and axes, slogans like "Prepared to die" or "Praise@TheSun" and at checkout it's some variation on winsome blonde, acrid redhead, or incredibly tall dragon cosplayer? I mean, take all my fucking money right now. And gimmie that Onion longsleeve and hat combo.
Folks always say that the film shouldn't be called "Bride of Frankenstein" coz the creature isn't actually called Frankenstein. But Henry Frankenstein gets married to Elizabeth, so the title probably refers to her, and, if so, then it makes perfect sense.
Roger Moore was actually gonna be Bond from the beginning but couldn't do it because of the Saint. Sean did 5 movies, then Lazenby, then Sean came back for a 6th,and finally we got Sir Roger as Bond...James Bond.
Studio Movie Grill offers pretty much Fat Guy night, except it's every showing. They bring food to you on demand. All kinds of food. It's great. There's one in Simi Valley. I dunno why Simi Valley, but if you ever wander north (dunno why you'd go to Simi Valley, though), there's that.
why would fat guy screenings be automatically feeding you bringing you fat guy food? couldn't it have been a regular screening of a fat guy movie? or better yet a theater where everyone gets their own fat guy or where there's no chairs to sit on just fat guys. it would be great during Christmas time the theatre would be full of reclining lounge Santa's and everyone would feel like a kid again which in my case would be completely terrified but I had a hard knock life growing up so personally I prefer the skinny man screening.
About the WW women only screenings... one thing I could see being negative about them is fathers who had little girls who wanted to see one of the previews with their daughters and were forced to not go because Alamo decided to make it exclusive by gender. That would really suck. Overall though i wasn't a fan of them in general because in the times we're living in we should really strive to be inclusionary and not exclusionary. It only furthers the divide, if a bunch of men are excited to see a feminist icon on the screen you should let them, because not letting them isn't going to help further that sides message. In fact it may end up hurting it.
Duh! Monsterverse different from Darkverse! Monsterverse has godzilla, king kong, rhodan, mothra. Darkverse has mummy, invisible man, Frankenstein etc. Do the ground work guys! Wtf!
I didn't really need ten minutes on defending the all-woman Wonder Woman showing. For all of us who have never even seen an Alamo Draft House, why would we care if they have a ladies night? Any exclude-men marketing will have an internet backlash. Especially with a character and genre that was kept alive by mostly males for decades.
She was the first. The first Wonder Woman movie was made ten years before Supergirl in 1974. It did sound a lot like he was saying that this movie was the first though.
Thomas Almond *bernardin writing with kev smith would be fuckin amazing. kev is modest but he would totally rock it with the flash with his insight of the dc universe
hey heads up if you havent noticed. why would they carry cruise over to other movies in the universe if he was just a common character....oh light bulb by the end of the mummy movie he becomes someone with awsome powers like say....the mummy.....
I kinda feel like they wanted to do that on the movie haha specially filled with women ps: thank you Marc I was saying that about Magic Mike movies, how many theatres had women only screening for Magic Mike movies and those men never complain about that haha
Kevin fisting..."with Kung Fu grip" hot topic use to be straight gothic, but caved into mainstream the stuff they have now is nothing like it is now. they turned Nick Fury's howling commandos into a monster squad. DC had a monster squad too. they had couple of TV shows with similar themes monster force, and some other show. transformers 4 will have a robot only screening. where's the human rage...
Sometimes, Kevin, YOU baffle ME. People aren't upset that men can't attend a women-only screening. They're bothered by the double-standard, and rightly so (as you commonly say). The issue is that feminism screams for equality and inclusivity. To purposefully exclude a gender from something even as petty as a WW screening, solely because of gender, is both hypocritical and contradictory of the very thing women claim to be fighting for. At the same time, everyone knows that heads would roll (certainly if Kathy Griffin had any say) and vaginally-uniformed marchers/rioters would shut down traffic if there was even a suggestion of a men-only screening of something.
Revenge of the Nerd I think the problem is if there was a mens only screening of a movie it would be sexist. equal rights should be equal should it not? I'm not bothered but I can see the point people are making.
That is the issue, men dominate pretty much everything already. We (as men) do not need our own anything, because we have so many "men only" clubs already. In addition to this, this is the most popular female super-hero, overall minus catwoman's recent fame. WW is iconic and she represents power, faith, blah, blah... Have women not earned a woman's only screening? There are barely any female directors, barely any female superhero movies, they truly should be able to have this and not have "men" complain about something this simple. People making a deal out of this is exactly why they should have one and why they deserve the right to go without "men" thinking they are being left out. *End rant*
Revenge of the Nerd the content of the film makes no difference morally. This is the same as having a whites only showing. Does this theater also have whites only bathrooms? Do the non whites have to sit in the back of the theaters? Racism is racism. Sexism is sexism. Equality means same rules for everyone with no exceptions.
Whites have already had their own water fountains, bathrooms, movie theaters, everything lol. White have not been and are not being discriminated against, it is not the same thing. Non whites have already sat in the back of buses and etc. So if you want things to actually be equal, which they are not, then give women equal pay and positions in the work force, in government, etc. People will outwar over a women's only viewing but say nothing when they hear that females only get paid 78 c to a males dollar.
like always we love to justify something wrong with another even that was wrong....its like kindergarden children fighting and saying well i hit her because last week she hit me. Grow Up
I personally dont see the appeal of an all woman screening. I dont really care what strangers are next to me. But I do find it to odd to make a point to exclude any one type of person. If BVS was male only that would get so much hate for being sexist. That being said I'm sure those woman had allot if fun and good for you.
Normally Kevin is pretty spot on but the problem is how it would not be taken the same if it was a male only screening of a movie. Can't have it both ways. Either segregation is ok or it isn't.
I wake up my wife up sometimes with "today on our show!"
Agents of SHADE, BPRD, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, yeah I'd say the monsters to catch monsters scenario has been done once or twice.
League was exactly what I thought when they talked about this Dark Uirverse.
ya i use captions because Kevin likes to yell alot lol
i just watched wonder woman a few hours ago, and i've been running your podcasts on auto for two hours or so going through some old reviews while i'm doing other stuff. i've got to say, you were right, kevin, that we are lucky as comic book fans to be living in such an era. counting this year alone, we've got logan, guardians of the galaxy2, and wonder woman. THREE movies which are not only great comic book movies, they are great movies in themselves. further more, they are all great in their own way! talk about an embarrassment of riches!! i'm totally looking forward to spiderman and justice league. what a year, what a lovely year!
Silent Bob commentating on movie news is just the best
The Alamo also does the Mom/Infant screenings too, at least the ones in Austin do.
Kevin I just watched Teen Titans : The Judas Contract and was crazy happy to see you had a scene! That was awesome! Even if it was pretty short, You're officially a canon character in the DC Animated Movie Universe! Hahah, That's amazing! Congrats dude!
"The first female led superhero movie"
Um... pretty sure that happened in 1984, with Supergirl
Barbarella in 1968
I can see why those might not be counted by some people, as they're not necessarily *superheroes*, so might not get mentioned on a technicality. But you can't really do the same for Supergirl
The first Wonder Woman move came out in 1974.
That was a TV movie, but it still just reinforces the point that 2017's Wonder Woman is not the first female led Superhero film
I think they where trying to say that the character was the first but it did sound a lot like they where talking about this new movie.
I love fatman on batman, but i so miss the hour and a half utility belt episodes... i been listening to the commentaries over again for a fix
I'm a solo dad and I've been to those women's daytime movies. The design isn't for women, rather home parents with toddlers and no time at night.
However I agree with everything you said aside that lol
People talk a lot about the audio quality. I like it. It's straight up old school indie.
WW isn't the first female super hero movie. Electra and Catwoman to name 2. It is maybe the first good one.
adam lebednik we are trying to forget.
adam lebednik Noooooooooo! you son of a bitch. cat woman and electra are like santa they only exist if you believe they do so stop making me believe.
Don't forget Supergirl
keen wats wrong with super girl so a bad guy gets a bit rapeish with super girl and the story is terrible and nonsensical, but how can you hate a movie with Peter O'Toole repeatedly asking if he can squirt in her mouth in one of the creapiest things in cinematic history.

I love you, Kevin Smith! In a mostly hetero way!

The Living Daylights was the first bond movie i remember watching as a kid, but The Spy Who Loved Me is my favourite. Roger Moore will always be my favourite Bond.
Gotta say, I kinda prefer the old theme song
WHO'S THAT IN KEVIN SMITH'S GARDEN?!?
I'M SMOKIN HIS WEED AND REVVIN UP HARLEY!!
Thanks Kev!
Before I watch this, are there any spoilers?
The Javier Bardem bit cracked me the fuck up
I just noticed you changed your standing positions. I like the way this is framed more than the old way. Feels more relaxed.
Here in Taiwan, you can buy "gold class" tickets for certain movies, where you sit in a recliner with a blanket and waiters bring you food from an actual dinner/dessert/drink menu. It's legit.
The first "James Bond 007" was Barry Nelson (in 1954), with Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre.
I totally agree that Alamo Drafthouse is amazing. on the note of investing, they actually franchise.
Only 2 Bond films had theme songs with a different name than the film, they were both Roger Moore films. Neat stuff.
Great comments on WW Screening, guys.
If Universal called it "The Monster Universe" they'd be stepping on Warner Bros. and Legendary's toes since they just named their Godzilla/Kong/Kaiju universe thing "The MonsterVerse". So they pretty much had to go with something else.
Jay and Silent Bob Meet Frankenstein!!
Any time you tell one group of people they can't come in, it is wrong. 1 movie in and of itself is not a big deal, but on principle it is wrong. Also, I seriously doubt that AMC is telling a guy with his children that he can't go in and see the mommy movie because he is a dad and not a mom.
12:50 but Mark no sane human being would ever want to see an 50 shades film on there own free will.
Barry Nelson played an Americanized Bond in the 1954 TV show 'Climax!' version of 'Casino Royale'; Peter Lorre played Le Chiffre. He was no Daniel Craig...
Kevin Smith bless your soul
They cannot use Monster Universe because Legendary is calling their Kong/Zilla verse Monster Universe. Lawsuit either way
The working title for the "Justice League Dark" as of the moment is also "Dark Universe." I don't know if "Monster Universe" or "Dark Universe" has been trademarked yet by either company, but it's brand confusion across the board.

Jessica Cruz is the Green Lantern in the Green Lanterns book for DC Rebirth. She's awesome!!!
"I eat... chin"
-The Bride
The bride was an amazing movie and about some girl power. it also had my man David Rappaport from Time Bandits in it. A movie full of talent.
Soooo either Kevin has brought Shecky to work, OR the new studio setup is in Kevin's house.
OfficialCDJ it's actually in his living room. He did a Facebook live video about it.
Scott Armistead aaaaah gotcha. Wake, bake and shoot!
I geeked hard when Kev said he loved PPG
To add to the Monster Universe, they want The Rock for the Wolfman, and Angelina Jolie for Bride of Frankenstein
My Dad [ 78 year old Irishman ] often says
"People fucking baffle me...!"
;0)
Wonder woman is not the first female led superhero movie.
Lee McQueen The others were?
Ok, WW is the first successful female-led superhero movie...
Supergirl. Elektra. Catwoman.
It appears to be the first good one though.
Does anyone remember Tank Girl?
RIP Roger Moore he was my James Bond when I was a kid
Folks always say that the film shouldn't be called "Bride of Frankenstein" coz the creature isn't actually called Frankenstein. But Henry Frankenstein gets married to Elizabeth, so the title probably refers to her, and, if so, then it makes perfect sense.
Just started watching and checked the comments section.... looks like these 2 get a lot wrong...
Just a big thank you for replacing your last intro theme song. Know it's been for a minute but it's something Imesnt to give props for.
Right on Kevin
Great Roger Moore story!
18:00 when kevin and mark are totally not on the same page
Arnie never said 'Ice to see you'... that was McBain
Roger Moore was actually gonna be Bond from the beginning but couldn't do it because of the Saint. Sean did 5 movies, then Lazenby, then Sean came back for a 6th,and finally we got Sir Roger as Bond...James Bond.
I hate to say it but that Dracula vs Zombies kinda sounds like The Strain
You bring up the Idris Elba thing, but leave out that Roger Moore suggested Adrian Lester as a better Bond casting choice. Uncool, guys. Uncool.
love the Alamo Drafthouse!!!!
Their Dark Universe store idea is literally just Hot Topic.
nice im a bond fanatic nice to know whos your bond.
I LOVE KEVIN SMITH🤣🤣
I'm surprised that they don't do a Version of DC superhero Girls on the CW. that whole premise seems like it has a built in audience there
Studio Movie Grill offers pretty much Fat Guy night, except it's every showing. They bring food to you on demand. All kinds of food. It's great. There's one in Simi Valley. I dunno why Simi Valley, but if you ever wander north (dunno why you'd go to Simi Valley, though), there's that.

OR maybe to the point, they'd serve nothing but diet food, like fat camp. OR just a theatre with wider seats.
I wonder if the tonal shift is still on the table for Bond once Daniel Craig is done with the role.
Kevin should make that vampire zombie movie, it sounds interesting.
About the WW women only screenings... one thing I could see being negative about them is fathers who had little girls who wanted to see one of the previews with their daughters and were forced to not go because Alamo decided to make it exclusive by gender. I want Marc on SJ Movie Fights!
Unsweetened Ice Tea? Right there with you.
I realy have a shitty time/days but this video made me laugh and thank you for that :)
Duh! Monsterverse different from Darkverse! Monsterverse has godzilla, king kong, rhodan, mothra. Darkverse has mummy, invisible man, Frankenstein etc. Do the ground work guys! Wtf!
Please make Zombies vs Vampires! For the love of Pete, please do it!
Dracula vs Zombies sounds a lot like what they did in Blade II - Vampires team up with Blade to fight the Reapers.
First female lead superhero movie except for Supergirl, Electra and Catwoman. Repeated for the 100th time cause I heard that 10, 000 times.
She was the first. The first Wonder Woman movie was made ten years before Supergirl in 1974. It did sound a lot like he was saying that this movie was the first though.
Whats happened to the clip-on mics? C'mon guys.
While I agree Dark Universe isn't a great name, they can't use Monsterverse because Legendary is using that for their Godzilla/Kong movies.
Somewhere Maude Garrett just shed a tear.
ANNOUNCED!!!!! Men only screening of Man of Steel 2!... I'm sure there would be NO backlash about that right?
I live in new jersey, these screenings are in texas...which means i don't give a fuck,i still saw the movie and i liked it.
Kevin ! Tell your friends over at Supergirl Kara's new team Ma'gann Barbara Gordon Cassie Sandsmore or Donna Troy S3.
Kev, man. take Bernard and do Flash. produced by Bernard, directed by Kevin Smith.
7:33 lol I'm sure he's not ashamed to play Frankenstein's Monster
4:38 Creature Commandos, Kevin.
I kinda feel like they wanted to do that on the movie haha specially filled with women ps: thank you Marc I was saying that about Magic Mike movies, how many theatres had women only screening for Magic Mike movies and those men never complain about that haha
Kevin fisting..."with Kung Fu grip"
hot topic use to be straight gothic, but caved into mainstream the stuff they have now is nothing like it is now.
they turned Nick Fury's howling commandos into a monster squad. DC had a monster squad too. they had couple of TV shows with similar themes monster force, and some other show.
transformers 4 will have a robot only screening. where's the human rage...
Monster Universe sounds like it involves the characters from Monsters Inc and Monsters University
Dark Universe leads to Allan Moore´s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. :)
Roger Moore did 7 Bond films.
I think the Roger Moore statement about who should play bond was taken out of context. Read the original interview.
Universal should call their monster movie "Monster Mash".
Sometimes, Kevin, YOU baffle ME. People aren't upset that men can't attend a women-only screening. They're bothered by the double-standard, and rightly so (as you commonly say). Sounds like Kev's been watching Rick and Morty recently, hahaha.
What if Depp plays Dracula in your Zombie V Dracula movie!
Good time for Warner Bros to reboot the live action Scooby-Doo franchise to join in the eventual monster mash :-)
I think you're thinking of League of Extraordinary Gentleman - monsters protecting humanity
I fully support a woman only screening of WW. Enjoy yourselves!
Revenge of the Nerd I think the problem is if there was a mens only screening of a movie it would be sexist. equal rights should be equal should it not? I'm not bothered but I can see the point people are making.

kevin man u need a good mic. ur sound is low for some reason
They already have Spenders for Goths, its called Hot Topic.
All I'm hearing is League of Extraordinary Gentlemen reboot out of these Universal Monsters
Javier as the Monster?! /joy
My vote would've been "Monsterverse"
Normally Kevin is pretty spot on but the problem is how it would not be taken the same if it was a male only screening of a movie. Can't have it both ways. Either segregation is ok or it isn't.
Lazenby turned down the second go. He wasn't the failure people pretend he was
Rigsby 1 He wasn't even an actor when he got the part of Bond. Pretty impressive.
