To be fair, Nintendo couldn’t really deviate too far from the existing form factor without messing up how most games are played. And if anything, the “Switch 2” name will make it crystal clear that this is the successor rather than just a pro model. Also, the lack of an OLED display is reportedly to keep costs down. I doubt the average person would’ve been receptive towards a $500 USD (or more) Switch 2. Going into what you said about handheld PCs, I doubt Nintendo actually sees them as competition. 90% of the general public don’t even know that those devices exist, & the most popular of them (the Steam Deck) isn’t even sold at retail. They’re a non-factor, mostly gassed up by hardcore fans like us.
I've been using the Playstation Portal for a week now. Even though it's an LCD screen, it looks great. I'm betting the Switch 2 screen is going to be a substantial improvement over the base Switch.
There is no alternative though. I would hate it if they abandon the switch form factor because it’s amazing. So yeah like for PlayStation and Xbox this is going to be a similar concept just a lot more powerful. OLED would be super nice but also a logical choice not to have that from the start. In terms of sales I think beating original switch is almost impossible. But still think it will sell well enough. Price: I agree, likely to be 400 max
tbh i just want to know if the joycon mouse rumors are true! the joycons DID have the mouse sensor and the triggers are wider, but its such an odd feature lol in the end, nintendo is always experimenting so it wouldnt be too insane
There will be an OLED eventually but not at launch. The LCD panel on Switch 2 is 1080p which is even nicer than the 720p screen in the existing Switch. Metroid 4 is running on the original Switch in that video. That’s already been confirmed by Digital Foundry. Hopefully they release it cross gen with an enhanced version for Switch 2. The motherboard and chip set have already been leaked so we know that Nintendo is using a Samsung 8nm processor that is heavily customized around Nvidia DLSS artificial intelligence and machine learning. In short it’s using an older, cheaper, underpowered cpu that is enhanced with AI. It’s also has 4x the Ram capacity of the OG Switch and is utilizing high speed memory. It is suspected that this system will be capable of running most current gen ports albeit not at the same fidelity as PS5.. however being able to play portable and on your tv has always been the main selling point of the Switch… not the highest fidelity graphics. Unlike the Wiiu… Switch2 is a much more straightforward marketing strategy. It’s easy to understand that it is the successor system of the Switch. Besides, because kids are much more online these days they know what’s going on. I don’t see the new Switch being more than $399.99 USD. It will be priced competitively to attract both families and hardcore gamers.
I got my OLED in January 2022 and I loved it (first Switch). I have no need to get the Switch 2 until they release an OLED model. I got Mobapad joycons (they’re amazing) for Christmas and I still have hundreds and hundreds of hours of backlog to play.
I bought the mobapads a few days after buying the switch OLED. My thumb started hurting quite quickly and it was obvious it was an ergonomics issue, so went and did my research and ordered the M6s. I also would have no interest in a new switch without an OLED screen.
Worrying? They revolutionised gaming consoles, the Switch is still selling (and probably looking like it will be the most popular dedicated gaming console ever) All I want is a NES to SNES upgrade. Same thing just with a couple of extra features (and that mouse-con rumour sounds stunning.) I don't think anyone has anything to be worried about. Especially if it's cheaper than what folk think.
@@Luke-hd3jm And I'm not sure what made you jump to that conclusion. Anyone with eyes can see it's probably the most looked forward to console in recent memory. :) We'll see.
When Nintendo does it, everyone is screaming that it's over. Play Station and Xbox have just made their old console, but stronger ever since their first one and no one bats an eye.
There were rumours of a Switch Pro not long ago. I’m pretty sure this is that. Which makes more sense. I’m for it, but can completely see why people might not fancy upgrading. My biggest disappointment is the screen being LCD. Albeit I’m sure a good panel. The biggest thing that will set this apart though is the joycons. If the rumours are true. Being able to use the joycons as a mouse will be a bit of a game changer for game possibilities
i think this is definitely more of an iterative thing like the DS and 3DS or PS4 and PS5. it would be a massive disappointment if it just ends up being an upgraded model of the original switch. They've perfected the concept of the hybrid console, and they've peaked imo. all they can really do now is just make a more refined next gen version of it with a new UI and services exclusive to it. and i dont think they need to make it completely different from the switch or have any defining gimmicks. if its decently powerful and has good games at launch then theres no way its gonna flop like the wii u did
"hardcore gamers'" that buy the switch play portable. The majority, families etc, play docked on the main tv, so it's considered a main gaming console and will be priced accordingly.
What else would you want from the switch successor?? I personally rly just wanted it to be the same but with more power and higher resolution, maybe haptic feedback like the ps5. Just so that it could keep up with the other consoles. Idk what else you expect from it but I’m curious
And now we can play cool heavy games like Elden ring mk1 etc , I don’t think it will sell like the first switch , bc is gonna be for hardcore players , this switch 2 is not a family friendly game console , so yeah I like it is for us yes is going to be pricey but is it what it is .
The console does not matter that much. When wii was revealed. Everybody hated it. But the games were good for its time. So it became a succes. When gba came. People did not like that it was just a upgrade from gbc...and that gbc even was just a upgrade from gb. Still gba became a succes... Why? Because the games are good. So we dont know anything...till we see the games. The games decide if it will be a succes. Last games from switch are not that good. And the ones that are good.. had a really long release date between them... making me think... the focus was for the quality for the switch 2 games. I will not be suprised if they have a mario kart, donkey kong and ssb ready that is bigger than its prequel including the dlc.
