I tried a set of current production mullard el34s and put the stock JJ el34's back in because they were more Dynamic sounding. The mullard's were softer feeling and warmer sounding and okay but my Marshall didn't sound like a marshall with them in it.
I agree, especially playing back on smaller cheaper speakers. If I play it back on my monitors it seems the low end is fuller and there is more clarity overall but it's something subtle you have to listen for and not something that just comes out and hits you. So maybe the stock power tubes aren't that bad after all. But then again, my ears are pretty shot.
Thanks for putting this video out there, very informative!
The mullard el34 tubes sounded tighter to me but darker. The stock tubes seem to have more of a crispy crunch in the high mids.
I liked the sound of the stock el34's.

Not hearing any difference, but I bet in the room you found the Mullard less bright?
Yes, less bright but not by much and a bit more articulate over all. But not as big a change to the sound as I expected.
Do you know which version of JJ el34 come stock with the amp? Thanks
Not hearing a difference.
