I noticed after watching this back there were existing marks which someone had used to mark the position of the tailshaft vs the diff. These are old and weren't lined up before I pulled the tailshaft out originally, and seeing as the tailshaft has been freshly balanced it shouldn't really matter which way it was bolted up 👌
Take her for a spin , c'mon c'mon c'mon 😁 Very handy vid this. Specially if you have an older Ford & need to do it yourself. Ford Territory has same issue. Thanks for showing us.
From my dirt bike to my ford I use rtv high temp best tip is run consistent bead do up lose wait about 30 40 then do up tight this is for no metal gasket just the rtv had zero problems so far and I didn't wait 24 hours to cure with my dirt bike the car I gave bit more curtsey Tighten and of I went with the bike no problems good stuff highly recommend
I noticed someone mentioned a zip tie to lift the exhaust. A more permanent solution, which I have used on cars in the past, is a hose clamp around the rubber. You won't pick up any extra NVH because the rubber it still in place and you won't have to worry about a zip tie breaking.
I had Hardy Spicer do my tailshaft, however it vibrated its guts out. I do think there is an anomaly with the rear flange where the tailshaft connects to the diff. Hopefully you don't come across this issue as it drove me nuts, but I did manage fixing it. See how you go but. If they didn't touch the balance of the shaft, and you have aligned it back the way it came out of the car you should be ok. Once again, great video bro. 👌
Good job is done.I hope so your tailshraft will be in balance ,because"you have tags on tailshraft"which mean before you removing 6 bolts on CV you "should mark postion od tailshraft and put back in same line postion. You should lock 6 bolts 72Nm by spec.and centre bearing bolts 36Nm.If you have vibration after drive test "problem is balance which should be mark CV join before removing and put back in same spot.
Hey mate, good way to get your exhaust to sit higher and tighter is to cable tie around your rubber hangers with the big thick cable ties. That's what I did to get my single 4" sitting right on my falcon.
Always a good vibe when watching your vids. I have a venom exhaust on my fg. Fits like absolute shit. Knocks same place as yours, sits off center to bar cut out and hangs a good 70mm lower than factory. Venom need alot more r&d. Can see why they are cheaper than other brands.
I always clean each of my tools before putting them away unless there's no grime involved. It seems a bit indulgent to overhaul the existing tail shaft while waiting for the upgraded one. It's a hobby car after all. It won't take that long will it? It's frustrating there are needlessly different tail shaft bolt patterns for the same model car. They are a complicated car for one pitched to the mass market.
Hi Sean, I had my honeycomb rims diamond cut an polished at a company called Wheel master at slacks creek. Fantastic job like factory finish. It is not cheap but it is the best option. The mobile rim repairers are cowboys. They generally use an epoxy to fill devits. wheel master actually welds up the devits an diamond cuts them back.
I take them off whenever the car is going to be in the air for a while. It's a good idea to slide them underneath to break the fall if it somehow fell down when you are under there.
@@MotoringBoxTV Yup I guess I place too much faith in my Chineseum axle stands :-) I recently purchased a set of ramps, which now I have them, I wish I had got some years ago - they make it so fast & safe to do basic servicing like an oil change or diff service, where you only need the front or the back of the car up - and if you need the whole car off the ground it's one set of axles you don't need to worry about jacking up.
My FG Falcon was turned down for rego 3 months ago for this problem. He couldn't fix it himself so he passes it after replacing front tires. Haven't done anything with it yet. Could you have replaced the bearing alone seeing that you have the tailshaft out? He showed me and said he had to dismantle the tailshaft at the swivel connection to get the bearing out. Said I need to take it to a town 2 hours away, tailshaft specialists.
Iv just noticed on my fgx centre hanger bearing I can move it up and down quite alot in the bearing housing when I grab the shaft and move up and down. Should there be no movement? I don't have any clunks or noises when driving.
It might be a sign it's on it's way out but nothing to worry about until you detect it while driving. There are likely other issues you'll have too attend to sooner.
The toughest part is getting the car up in the air high enough to do it, and then summoning up the courage to get under there putting your life in the hands of a few jack stands 😁
Those weights are so important even with a true balance tailshaft it's cv to diff yoke balance been in the trade for 40 years love fords this is a problem with tailshaft in these models go the one piece but remember they went to 2 piece because of tailshaft whip in early earlier models au falcons limited to 185 kms
I have a VT commy and when you get to 60+ km and go to cruise/coast it gets a crazy vibration . you reckon I have same problem and need to replace my shaft? only happens when cruising at speed not at acceleration or de-accel, take your foot off and it goes away instantly.
It could be, but from what I've experienced the rumble should exist regardless of whether you are accelerating or decel, or even if you put the clutch in on a manual.. so long as you're at that particular speed it'll happen. Either way it is a good place to start looking.
Hi, vibrations are such a pain to fix But start with the easy ones 1. wheel balance - probably 50% chance it gets somewhat better 2. while the car is up in the hoist, get a flash light and grab and shake every item eg sway bar, lower McPherson strut, steering rack ends and mounts to frame 3. finally 3 look at the tailshaft and look for scratches and dents, if there are any you need to take it of and have it balance, and like this video, find the centre bearing hold the front shaft in one hand and the rear shaft with the other and twist the stafts left and right in opposite directions, this should show any play or wear on the centre bushing and uni 4. if you are using hub adapters for wheel or after markets get rid of them - often they dont sit in the hub properly and also some aftermarket wheels need a different style of wheel but ie flat faced, or acorn or large shaft straight or tapered

Nothing like smashing out a quick job on the car while the wee ones are having a snooze!
My shoulders are aching just watching you. Definitely a good quality of drive upgrade. Again, audio was top notch.
Would love to see the car rolling on some FG lux pack wheels, OEM wheel that looks super clean
Far out your cinematography is up there with the best.
Nice to see the Ford exhausted and getting shafted at the same time. ☺️

I use hose clamps around my hangers that i need to sit a bit higher takes the sag out of them works a treat.
Mad idea ill have to give that a go. Cause ive bent my hangers to lift the exaust and it still knocks on the diff.
Nice work. Back to the skids !
Good vid mate. Highly recommend getting some impact sockets for those impact drivers you have though.
wheel nuts shouldn't be rattled on regardless, they must be torqued

Oliver's driveshafts in Toowoomba do the best shafts.

Great vid as always mate. Look forward to seeing when you take the car for a run. :-)
My rumble was the centre bearing being flogged out, so I had that & UJs replaced. 👍

Looking forward how is sounds and drives after the refitting.
Hope everything went well Sean. 👍
You can drive straight away using sealant on exhaust it’s actually better to heat it up

Should the exhaust sealant be used on BOTH sides of the gasket???
I did, it doesn't hurt.
I have been trying to post a link re the Tail-Shaft angles ... But the posts get deleted ???
Not by me.

Looked like it
Cheers mate, will try track some down.
14 months? Where did that time go?
I can tell you where... I felt every single minute of it 😂
What is a transmission?
Oh wait I googled it, it's American for gearbox, ya know what a gearbox is.

If you look at the warning label on that exhaust gasket maker stuff, it litterally says
"WARNING: cancer"
Like what? 😂
If cancer had a smell, I imagine it would smell something like that gasket maker does.
@@MotoringBoxTV Oh 110% 🤣
Is this why my steering wheel keeps uncontrollably shaking? 😵💫
Probably not the cause if it is the steering wheel, that would be a steering alignment or wheel balance issue I would say.
