Use a 90hz phone for a day. Then Check again. That's when you feel a difference. Give some time to your eyes to adapt 90hz once it's done you will see a difference between 90hz and 60hz
EDIT: FOR EVERYONE WHO SAYS THAT THEY DON'T SEE A DIFFERENCE, TRY WITH 120, 144HZ PHONES, IF YOU CAN. 60 vs 90 is not a magic change, it's subtle.
Life is an Art this tbh
Was about to comment the same. Use it a day or 2, surely ll tell the difference
But if you can’t notice it to begin with, is it really necessary?
yep, always watching vids at 60 fps in yt bt when i watch a video at 30 fps its just like motion blurred
Exactly there is difference, I've experienced now.. 👍
Just ask your participants to scroll through this comment section and then they'll know it..
Exactly..scrolling is where you will feel the most difference.
So you guys buy it just to frel the scrolling? Jk🤣
yup I don’t really find the point of sacrificing so much battery just for smoother scrolling
@@m4ster_gun I also don't find the point of sacrificing battery just for a skin device *cough* iPhone *cough*

Used the 90hz for one day and 60hz for one day. I could easily tell the difference.. In Battery Life xD

That's a good one🤣
I was using iphone 8 plus before using one plus 7T. After two months, when i came back to iphone 8 plus to fetch something from the iphone, you can REALLY tell the difference. I am not even a phone geek to realise that. I bought my 7T without knowing about 90hz screen refresh at first. Bought it just for fast charging.
Yh could be that
@DNB Catalina no it's the refresh rate.. I've been using the X2 pro for a few weeks now and the difference is clear if I use any other phone with standard 60hz refresh rate.
@@raaaaqj4uh But still it's not worth it!
And just works as a gimmick!
@@desertdust777 if the phone you're currently using is good enough but you're buying a new phone just for the high refresh rate then yes, that would not be worth it. But I would consider a higher refresh rate a better 'gimmick' than wireless charging. It does make a little difference in daily use albeit small. Also let's be honest, when it comes to flagships it's all about gimmicks anyway because any budget phone can offer you the bare essentials of a smartphone.
@@raaaaqj4uh It doesn't make any difference unless you play games which support that refresh rate or you pay close attention to every single frame. Going from 60 to 90 isn't much of a diffrence if you are a average user!Going from 60 to 120 however gives reasonable difference!
Only If you play competitions then you need to get every edge on your enemy in that case it makes difference!
I have a OnePlus 7 pro and when I pick up any other 60 hz phone, it feels sluggish and slow
yes me to. I would never go back to 60 Hz.

But isn't.
@@lilmoris1 It is.
@@nexus_aor7623 No, it isn't.
Thanks for making us 60 hz phone owners feel less out of touch...a little bit longer
This is how I felt when the smart phone industry went from FHD resolution, to QHD or 4K. I really don't see a need for it on such a small screen. I have my Note 9 set to FHD+ (2220 x 1080) and the screen looks fantastic!
I am the same with my S7 Edge as the battery isn't that strong anymore and 1080p is easier on battery life and basically looks the same, I only notice a difference when I drop to 720p.
But you can actually notice a difference between 1080p to 1440p
Setting your display resolution to FHD doesn't change the physical resolution (2K) of the display!
It just sets your rendering resolution to FHD hence less load on the SOC.
What you see still remains a 2K display but with FHD content.
I just switched from a 1440p phone to a 1080p phone, same screen size, and I notice it everyday.
@@thetechrealist well perhaps some eyes can notice it and some can't.
The change comes when u switch back to 60Hz
then why would you want to go for 90hz in the first place if you can only tell the difference after the fact you revert to 60hz, i have a high refresh 144hz monitor myself and i do see the difference, but if you can't tell the diffrence side by side between 60hz and 90hz on a smartphone because the refresh rate is not high enough or the phone screen is too small and what not, i don't really see the point.
Especailly scince it drain your battery quite a bit more

@@flxdrv5020 Nice reply, very reasonable.
@@flxdrv5020 agree with you on this. But the experience changes when you already have 90Hz. But when you haven't it may look like a complete waste. It's like there are folks who are a little more enthusiastic about the new stuff out there in tech.

It's good that there isn't 90Hz everywhere like when you're calling someone for example. There's no need for 90Hz to be enabled during that obviously. I also don't need 90Hz to play games. When I'm surfing the web or watching a video, maybe, I'd like to see that high refresh rate.
That's what variable refresh rate is.
Watching videos is like the one thing where high refresh rate deasn't matter cause most videos are shot at 30 or 60 fps
ohh, so when you use high refresh rate for more than 3 days or even a week it becomes normal and you dont feel the smoothness compared to when you used it for the first time, so do you think i better not waist my money on that and better to get a phone with a very good processor than getting a phone with high refresh rate and normal processor ?

I'm not sure about this result. I bought a Oneplus 7t a couple of weeks back and changing to 90hz, I could instantly notice the smoothness.

@@larsbertje9608 that cracked me up too hahahah
You miss the point of a 90hz display, I guess. Microsoft has demonstrated years ago that touch latency is a big factor in usability and the natural feel of a touch screen. You need something less than 10ms for it feel like paint coming off your fingers as you touch the display. But a 60hz display, refreshes 60 times a second. That's once every 16.67ms. So, no matter how fast you make the touch input, your display won't be able to show anything less than 16.67ms, even though the touchscreen registers it. A 90 hz display refreshes every 11.1ms, so that's closer to the mark. So, you would feel an obvious difference primarily in fast swipes and drawing, not daily use.
Ok thanks 👍
This comment should be pinned.
Isn't that the touch response rate? Different from screen refresh rate?
One quick question to that: it doesn't make a noticeable difference in the normal use of a phone, say social media, movies and surfing in the web?
I am about to buy the iPhone 12, but as they failed to implement the 120 Hz display (If I recall correctly they tried it but there were some issues they couldn't fix in time so they got rid of it again) I am cautious about the idea that the next iPhone is gonna have 120 Hz, and it's gonna make all the difference in the world or not lol.
@@abhisheksharma07 The touch response rate is, in practice, limited by the screen's refresh rate, even if you make it higher than that your display won't be able to react as fast. Screen's refresh rate is the bottleneck to the touch response rate. So, yes, they are different but also related.
What do you think about the smoothness of the display
Grandma: this phone is lighter
I've been using the OnePlus 7 pro at 90 Hz and I do see a difference. My old phone was the OnePlus 5T and I had them side by side both on 1080p and similar brightness. And I also noticed since I've been using the 7 pro for a while now
*I switched from OnePlus 7 Pro to iPhone 11 Pro Max and I miss the 90hz refresh rate display.*
Should’ve wait for iPhone 12.
Eragor the Kindhearted he’s probably a phone junkie
When I switched from 7 Pro to Note 10+ I did feel difference a lot but when I switched from 7 Pro to iPhone 11 Pro Max I see less difference.
Also in start I didn't see the difference but after getting used to smoothness of 90hz and 120hz I can feel the difference. But my cousins can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps video so
@Eragor the Kindhearted he's probably lying
@Eragor the Kindhearted I had the OnePlus 3 back in 2016! :D
Yes please continue with the experiment. I just bought realme x2 pro and was expecting some cool revelation about the 90hz buzz. But nope, cant really tell the difference. The phone still good value for me even though i feel i got scammed with all the 90hz hype. This is interesting experiment, please continue with the 120hz and so on. Good job mate!!!
As long as you're not doing something that takes advantage of the high refresh rate it is hard to notice a difference. Basically it's like content creators going for a more colour accurate and higher resolution screen and gamers going for a higher refresh rate screen.
You should just tell to look at the difference in display only.
I'm not a choosy person, so anything above 60hz doesnt really affect me. I used my friend's iPad Pro for a week or so, and when I went back to 60hz, it didn't take me a long time to get used to it again.
It's more of a gimmick for normal everyday stuff since it doesnt really add anything aside from the smoother and "faster" experience. And other than games, nothing benefits from 90hz, not even videos, lol.
Calling this a psychology experiment you introduced bias in that the participants were on guard to see if there was actually something different between the phones or not. You prob could've skewed your data either way. You would have been better off asking them if one phone screen was faster than the other. People won't necessarily understand "speed" meaning hz in this scenario. Then have a control group with 2 phones at the same refresh rate. This is in no way conclusive to if the general public can decipher a difference.you don't want to know can people identify a difference. You want to know can people tell the difference between 60hz and 90hz
Excellent answer and yes the experiment is flawed
if they say that the contestants would specifically just look at the screen and just test the screen. Whereas in a normal use case scenario you just use the phone like these people were, just checking things, loading pages etc. In that sense, it was okay.
That's the whole experiment. It's to see if 90hz is so good that people would notice it right away and they didn't
@@shalinpilot That's fair but still the point remains, them comparing completely unrelated things like the ui, color or weight of the phone shows this test is very much flawed and the participants were trying to compare everything.
You can call this experiment flawed and call it a day BUT it doesn't negate the fact that none of these individuals could point out the difference and only a few could after being specifically told what to look for.
Even in the comments section, people mention that with their 90hz displays, they are unable to notice any difference unless they switch back to another phone after a long period of time.
According to these points, it seems that despite it's shortcomings, the results are not that far from the truth.
Another possibility could well be that not all individuals have the ability to perceive such kind of speed differences. Only a few with very acute vision and perceptive abilities might notice it right of the bat, and those are few in number. This then brings us to the actual utility of these high refresh rate display's, which is not much really.
my friends randomly take my phone and put it beside their phone so as to check if 90hz actually makes any difference while scrolling and stuff and they honestly mock it saying 'THEREZ NO DIFFRENCE'
But honestly saying its not the way to experience it
you must just use the device for extended period of time and as it grows on to you
then you must toggle it off by dialing it down to 60hz and you will surely feel the difference..
I can totally agree with you, It happened to me as well. I bought new studio monitors and didn't impressed with them but after a month going back to old speakers, they felt dull, lack of details and clarity. And now I can appreciate new one's

Probably because they're not aware of what refresh rate even is and aren't looking for how fluid the tab animations are
Because in a phone it doesn't matter much. In pc yes it matters
It's good to have the option to switch when needed but even if I have I would choose battery life over smoothness. I have used 90, 120hz phones and the difference is visable only when you consciously compare both.
I've been using 90Hz for a few months and now 60 seems kinda slow to me. The difference is clear to me after I got used to 90, but at 1st when I was used to 60, I couldn't. It just takes some time
No because the processor and RAM matters not the refresh rate. I'm fine with a 60 Htz display. For example, the Note 10 Plus is very fast with a 60 Htz display. To me, 90 Htz and 120 Htz displays are luxury for phones
Well there is a phone in the market with 240 Hz display. I think it's from SHARP Mobiles.
and Sharp didn't release a proper replacement for their Aquos Crystal and Crystal X... been waiting for years now...
there is no SOC that can support 240hz display. so it's a false claim.
Danish Khan I believe the 240Hz is referring to the touch response or something. It is actually a 120Hz screen.
Like Apple has a 120Hz touch response on their latest few generations of phones, but the displays have an actual refresh rate of 60.
sandip kayal He was referring to the touch response or whatever; which Apple and Sharp advertise because it is twice as much as the actual refresh rate, and it gets people excited lol.

Ikr? I use my LG V30+ as a dedicated music player after switching to the 7 Pro and it is *p a i n f u l*
I use an ROG2. 90hz feels laggy to me.
Exactly! , I had my 5t and 7pro , when i did use my 5t again after a day using my 7pro it felt soooo laggy , if you play for example pokemon go the diffrences are madness.. almost unplayable on 60hz compared
Same
Dude, percentage of increments in refresh rate can't be a very good indicator of how good it'd be when I moved from 60 to 90 HZ the difference was night and day. Or as Linus's new video in collaboration with shroud and Nvidia shows that 60 to 144 is huge and 144 to 240 is not that huge a leap
90+ Hz is the best feature of the last years.
From what I can tell between 60Hz and 30Hz videos, I do notice the smoother of 60Hz at the beginning and only when I try to see it or may there’s a noticeable fast movement, but after than that after sometime, they just disappear or when you test the 30Hz again
Yep, it does. Well, it does not matter according to some who ask "Why 120Hz? Isn't 60Hz enough?". With that attitude we would have no innovations at all. Boring people.
If they wish they can put 240hz. More money for them
Just like my grandpa. He always complains about new stuff like the internet. "Why do we need this garbage?! It worked before!" I answered: "We also dont need electricity or houses, it worked before!" He didnt say anything after that :D
Yeah, i agree with that.
But im pretty much can adapt to another refresh screen rate pretty easy.
I've been using 144hz for 2 years then 240hz for 6 months.
And i still can use my 60hz screen just fine without any adjustments.
Heck, i even still played some of my games @30fs today😂😂😂😂.
It maybe similar on a phone i think.
90hz can be unnoticeable but try same experiment with 120hz then it would be a bigger difference, and higher refresh rate are easily noticed while gaming .
0:58 Where can I can that desktop wallpaper for my phone?
No.
You will see the difference when you play high quality game. You can than tell that how much smoother 90Hz display is.
Only if that game supports 90hz
@@lamih0096 yup
I think a fairer test would be to ask them which one they thing is the 90hz even, as u mentioned they were even testing the battery life and the speakers so they had no idea what they were looking for, seeing which one had the highest hz was probably the last thing in their mind
It for sure makes a difference to me, but I'm also one of those weirdos that wants 12 GB of RAM 😂
Used to think the same. Got a 7t recently. Can't go back to a 60hz screen unless the panel (color and resolution) itself is better.
You should have told them to scroll through apps. A set of apps that they have to try. Then, they would definitely see the smoother scrolling.
The only way I think they’ll notice it is either through scrolling or input delay using a stylus
Android authority couldn't afford to get another phone. Okay.
I can tell simply because I've been a PC user (builder) for 10+ years and know all about screen refresh rates and I feel as if my vision is well adapted to what to look for. Just got my first 90hz phone and definitely notice a smoother experience when gaming on the phone or other things simply browsing the UI.

For people who loves playing games, yes it matter like yeah really
But then 90hz vs 120hz won't make a difference... according to your theory 😂😂🙈
RashmiJr. nah it definitely does
60vs90vs120 with 120 you it definitely feels hella smooth compared to 60 and theres a noticeable difference in smoothness between 90 and 120. Dont ask me if i ever tried them cause i own a op7pro, iPhone xs max, ipad pro 10.5 and a gaming lap with 120hz monitor. so well yea i can pretty much see a difference
@@gtsishere yaa I know it will buddy 😊.. but according to AA 60-90 doesn't matter so does 90-120 ... Those who r using 90hz already will not feel a difference
Yes barely, what's your point though?
@@rashmiranjanbaral2115 Haha yes the heap paradox
Some of the older folks just stared at it like it was a picture trying to catch the difference between two similar photos.
You collected some old people who grew up in telephones and told them to differentiate two same smartphones. What a joke.
I'm 54yrs. old and I've been using Android for over 8yrs. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Nor, would I be able to tell much difference between phones from now and 3-4yrs. ago.
Ever heard of the "placebo effect"?
The longer we go on there will be even less difference to tell. CPU, GPU's, over-clock, under-clock, nanometers, you name it...
@@mr.johnson460 thank you.good sir... What i meant is exactly that..
I don't get how people can say that once using 90hz, you can't go back to 60 anymore, I mean, movies are 24 fps, most console games are 30 fps. Does that mean that you can't watch movies or play games on Switch or PS4 anymore ?
Unfair. You have to use it for a day atleast to know the difference.
You gotta compare text scrolling, and track the text with your eyes. 60hz will look slightly blurrier.
