Thanks for the lightening information!! I too have always used essential oils in my coloring and had no problems. In fact, I think adding a little helps the removal process a little too. I've used lavender, Amla, and Jojoba oils but now I will try orange because that smells amazing!! I am looking forward to your henna on gray video!

@12:00 if henna is pure with no metallic dyes, using chemical dye or bleach over it is not harmful at all. I’ve used it. My friends have used it back and forth.. with out any issue.
TheVicdub what about if both bleach and chemical dye is already on the hair? i’ve bleached my hair and dyed it the copper colour and also red, but now i box dyed it to brown... will it still be safe? ❤️

My hair is currently longer than in this video, and I need more than one box now. I was making due with one during the time of this video because my hair was already colored with henna and I was primarily touching up roots and ends. I hope it worked well for you!
Extending your colour also depends on what you use to wash it. I try and stay away from sulphate shampoos. Just like with chemical dyes they are harsh detergents and will fade your colour quicker, even henna. I alternate between no sulphate shampoos and cleansing conditioners. That works best for me so i don't have to do an application as often. When i need a colour pick me up between applications, i'll use a colour depositing mask like Joico color butter in Red or Copper, or the Ice Cream color depositing mask in copper. I really recommend applying a red colour depositing mask in between colourings...it will save you time, energy, and money by not having to do your henna as often.

Hey Tori, after watching your videos , I decided to switch from box and salon dye to henna. My natural colour is dark brown. I have had different shades of brown , mahogany which means I have a lot of build up and it looks very black (but kind of unnatural black not raven black). Also my roots have about 30%grey and currently is kind of burgundy. My last box dye wasn't very even, so now I have about 2cm of visible burgundy roots (greys are covered) and the rest is this heavy black. My hair is curly , shoulder length, thick, and possibly high porosity. So the question. I would like to have a whole length of the hair the same even shade of dark brown/chocolate. How do I achieve it? Do I need to strip existing colour first with something like 'Colourless Colour Remover" or Effasoll? Or go with the henna straight ahead? I assume I would need to do 2 step "colour the gray". What colour though? Dark brown? Medium brown? Chestnut?I am clueless, so would appreciate a bit of advise...Thanks

Henna-ing my hair after watching this video was one of the first few things I did for myself as a woman since becoming a mommy (full time gig, demanding 7 mo old :) So thank you for the inspiration! chandra6682 oh that's so exciting! I have never had any staining from henna on my bathtub or shower. I can say that you definitely want to be careful with it around ANY porous surfaces because if it can soak into something it can stain it. Make sure to be careful around any stone countertops, wood, or walls.. But it you have the standard non-porous bathtub I would say from my experience you'll likely be good. Just be cautious because you never know! Don't throw it everywhere 😉 haha
Update, used the henna and LOVE the outcome! It hasn't faded and love the color. I used Light Mountain in the red color. I left mine on for 4 hours and added about 2 tablespoons of coconut oil to it. I rinsed it out and then applied conditioner and rinsed that out. I didn't wash my hair for about 3 days afterwards, and then washed and conditioned daily after that. The only thing I noticed is that my hair was really itchy afterwards, and is still a little bit itchy weeks later. Is that normal?

I have been wanting to film a video using the neutral henna! It is not supposed to have any color effect at all, so I assume the more you use it would just condition and not color.

Would you show or explain how you bleach over henna to get the ombre look to the lower half of your hair that is lighter? Do you use developer and toner when you bleach?

You never mentioned the lightening product u used ?
I was wondering, I have dark roots but a lot of highlights running throughout. I really want to try a more natural (and less expensive) alternative to the balayage treatment which doesn’t seem to be lasting as long as I want and cost upwards of $200 everytime I do it. Being a mom of 3, that’s just not doable or affordable anymore.
So my question is if I want to layer colors, can I maybe start with a red base and then add a dark brown or chocolate brown to add some dimension, does that work? I have been highlighting so long, I don’t know if I would be a good “redhead” or not. I was just wondering if a 2 step process would be something that would work.
There are definitely different color options and combinations you can experiment with! I feel confident that it would be possible to obtain a balayage or two-toned effect using different color henna blends. I have been thinking about trying that out and making a video on it, but if you try it out before then please let me know how it turns out!
Hi, I really need advice on henna dye-ing with stubborn greys. I have dyed 2 times on separate occasions. The first time, I mixed around 5 tablespoons of henna powder (I have short hair) with 1 tablespoon of vinegar, followed by warm water (not distilled). Then I proceed to leave the henna solution for 12hrs before applying. I washed my hair before applying and saturated the area with white hairs. I left it on for 3.5hrs with a shower cap. However, only my brown hairs were dyed to reddish.Yet, my whites seem to be not dyed at all. The second time, I replaced 1 tablespoon of vinegar to 1.5, and this time I used coffee water instead of just warm water alone, to create acidic environment. This time I only left the solution for 8hrs before dye-ing. Similarly after applying, I left it on for 3hrs with shower cap on. However, this time I decided to use a heat source( hair dryer) but only for 2-3mins as it was to hot. ( I attempted to submerge the towel in warm water and wrap around the head to keep the henna warm, however after squeezing out the excess water from towel and wrapping it arnd my head, I realised it was not warm at all. Hence, I gave out on the idea).
1)Does anyone has a better idea to keep constant warmth on the head? 2) Does anyone has advice on how to effectively dye stubborn greys? (Since the henna did dye my brown hair to reddish but not my whites, I assume the issue lies with stubborn greys and not with the product itself? Also, I dipped my finger into henna & my finger was a deep orange. Hence, I do not need to change a different henna product?) ( Also please note that I may not be able to extend my leave-on period from 3.5hrs to longer as it starts to feel uncomfortable at that 3.5hrs mark.)
I used henna powder and beetroot and mine turned out dark burgundy. I wanted red. I left it in fir 4 hours in my head. Any suggestions? What happens if you just use henna powder and hot water or apple cider vinegar instead of beetroot?
I have naturally dirty blonde hair and dyed red on the length. Do you think if I let the henna cure for up to four hours and left on my hair for 4-6 hours it would turn a darker red? I just really don't want the bright orangey red, thanks for your help!
It all depends on what kind of henna blend you choose and your current hair color. I recommend looking at the color chart provided on Light Mountain's website, and choosing a color from there. I am sure you can get a darker red color! Good luck!
Hi Tori, I hope you'll see this. I've been recommending light mountain cover the gray to all my coworkers, but i don't know what the results are on people who are naturally blonde. Do you think you could do a video with a blonde friend who is going gray someday? If i could see the results then I could recommend this to blondes.

Geri Mason I heard that you can, but it stinks. You can also use tea, juice or lemon. The acidity helps it process.
Hi! So I'm hoping u can maybe help me. I had naturally light brown hair and that's what my roots and all the top of my hair is but I did have blonde at the bottom/ends from the salon done at least 6 months ago. Today I dyed my hair with the light mountain dark brown and the roots turned out awesome the bottom half is darker and a greenish hue. I saw that the green can potentially go away once the indigo has oxidated but if it doesn't do u think another round of the dark brown in a few days would solve the problem, or maybe the two step indigo process I saw on your other video?
Brianna Wright thanks for your question! I'm inclined to say that you will see darkening and evening out of color over the next few days as that's what I've seen it do before. If you still have a greenish tint after that, then I would suggest using the two step in the color you like because it will really penetrate the hair and coat it with an even richer color. Also, if you are wanting to keep an even, dark color, be ready to touch up then ends in a few weeks because the color will fade quicker on the bleached portion of your hair. It took me a couple of times after I bleached my ends to get the henna to fully soak in again, but it looks awesome now and my hair is so much heathier. I hope this helps!
thank you!! it has actually gone away now it is just a very ashy brown and the blonde is actually showing through a lot and my hair is still more so a lighter brown not as dark as i was going for so i think im going to try the two step method! i am new to henna but i love it so far just got to get it to where i want and keep learning! I have very short hair and it is thinning. I have colored my hair for years with salon type coloring. This is one of the main reasons to choose going chemical free. My question is does it matter using less as opposed to the whole pkg of henna for short hair? I have used a Light Mountain Natural hair color 1 time, it gets lighter with each wash. I only wash my hair once a week, not really a problem but just thought I would mention it. I used only 1/2 the pkg. I am retired so leaving the mix on my hair for 3 hours is not a problem for me either. I also have bought Amla and am planning on mixing it with the henna in equal parts just enough to leave a thick covering on my hair, then cover it with a cap for hair coloring. I hope I am doing the right thing and It gets a darker tint this next time. I use the light brown because I didn't want black hair, and I don't know what I am doing for sure, a little scary for me when I first used it. I've been using henna to enhance my natural red hair for a good 6 months now. I use the LM "Auburn" shade and love the results! I was thinking about doing a few highlights for summer, do you have any recommendations on how to achieve this naturally?
Hi, I'm a natural redhead like you & it's difficult finding advice for our hair regarding henna. Are you still using henna? I know your comment is 5 years old... I bought the Light Mountain henna in red & did only two test strands (straight henna & water on virgin hair for both 2 & 3 hours w/heatcap) but found the color way too dark! It looked like a "fake" red & I realize now I'm going more for that natural orange (thinking of doing Cassia w/tiny amount of henna to cover my white temples) - do you find that the henna darkens over time for you? How did your highlights come out? Any advice for other reds? Please help us! 🤓
@@Trash1ey I ended up not sticking with the henna. My advice to you would be to not overlap it. That was the mistake I made, and yes it would darken over time especially in the places where it overlapped.
I did have to grow it out to then be able to dye over it. I am currently using Esalon for my home hair coloring. I find that it's less harsh than box dyes and more affordable than going to the salon.

I've heard different methods for different shades like oils, nutmeg and coffee. any of these have you or others you know tried and what were the effects?
I have tried it with coffee and I do think it results in a more rich, deeper color! I have been wanting to try other mix-ins but have not done it yet!
I dye the first time with medium brown then the color get good and the grey get like blonde the second time I want my hair red because was too dark and I bought ight Mountain Natural Red the now I have the roots red and the another parts of my hair medium brown . What I need to do to get my hair complete red and more lightly. In the mix I put lemon and argan oil with red tea. Thanks
It’s hard to lighten hair after henna. Medium brown had indigo in it. Indigo does wash out after some time. Hennasooq sells a really potent henna. Called red raj That company is top notch and very knowledgeable. They will answer all your questions plus they have videos on UA-cam.
Henna won't be able to lighten your hair, but it will stain it from whatever color it is now with varied effects from person to person! Using the red with lemon sounds like a great combination to take the bright red color throughout your hair.
if you use the neutral conditioner will it turn white hair yellow?
Susanne I am not sure on that. I have used neutral on other hair colors and not had any color change, but I haven't seen it done on white hair. I will try to ask around, or experiment with it and let you know what I find!

I have 2 more questions, if i used my henna on dry hair like you just did, do you think it will cover my grays properly? Also, if someone with almost black hair used the red, would it show up at all?
violet goodman you can definitely cover it even when dry! Just make sure you saturate very thoroughly! I dampen my hair usually so that it will help me to work it in a little easier. The red might show up just depending on the color tone and depth of color currently! It's hard to say without seeing, but it's definitely worth testing out!

I’ve heard that henna can make your hair dry. Is that true? If it’s true, what should I apply to it so that it doesn’t dry out my hair?
Aloe Vera powder is best, if not, you could just add some coconut, jojoba, argan, or even a bit of olive oil to your mixture. Always follow up with a moisturizing mask and leave it on for atleast 15 mins min.
How often do you wash your hair? Also do you use sulfate free shampoos?
Yes I use sulfate free and usually make my own shampoo. I wash 1-2 times per week depending on the time of the year!

I used to colour my hair with the chemical hair dyes, but after a while with regular hair colouring, the dye dries the hair out, will regular use of using henna do the same ? I haven't coloured my hair in 4 year's, I wanted to give up colouring my hair completely and be natural, so I have my natural hair colour now, including some silver strands.
No henna actually recovers ur hair
My hair has never been so healthy since using henna. I used to bleach my hair blonde and i almost completely killed my hair. Total chemical haircut. It was always fried and broken and dry no matter what I did. Also very expensive for the upkeep . doing roots every 6 weeks and damaging. Henna will nourish and strengthen your hair. Its like a good protein treatment with the added bonus of the color. Ill never go back to using chems again. Chemical dyes always damage the hair follicles no matter what the color. ( unless your going darker from like brown to black) Anytime you lighten with peroxide/bleach and lift color its going to create damage.
Can anyone tell me if it is ok to use styling products and curling irons after you henna? Or do you need to wait a couple of days until you shampoo? Also, does henna turn really red if you are in the sun? Thanks in advance!
You can curl it, blow dry it, do whatever you want. And you don't need to wait to shampoo, you actually will need to shampoo at least twice after you henna your hair to get all of it out. And the sun will not make it redder, the only effect it may have is slightly lightening your hair since the sun does bleach hair, but this will probably be more noticable on your roots!
I wash my hair before applying my henna. The color takes better on clean hair without dirt, debris, or products in it. Also I like to avoid potential fading of the color. I wash it and then apply the mixture to wet hair. When rinsing out, a slippery conditioner or a good mask is enough to get all the henna residue out. Just rinse well and take your time.

Does bleach work on henna hair?
I have used bleach over henna, but as with anything its best to do strand tests before applying to the whole head. Also weigh your options to decide if using chemicals will be right for you. Good luck!
Can I tint black hair to brown with henna if yes how ?
Depending on how dark your hair is it will tint it a reddish color. Check the color chart on Light Mountain's site (linked above) and cross check your current hair color with a color they show that will bring out the most red. Likely the Red (which I use in this video) will give the most pigmentation. I hope this helps!
I have a question, can I mix the auburn with medium brown to get a less brassy orange color?
This might work, but I would do a strand test first to see if it turns out the color you want. I already feel like the Auburn doesn't have a brassy color, its a very nice reddish-brown. and I would even say it's more on the brown side from my experience using it on others. It can be different on everyone though so definitely strand test to ensure results you will love!
What color are you using? i ordered the auburn ro medium brown hair. also I ordered step1 and 2 but I am not more that 10 percent grey so how long should leave step 2 on
I use the Red on my hair. And I would leave on the second step at least 1-2 hours, but you can do more if you choose. It's mainly up to you and how rich you want the color, and how conditioned you would like your hair to be.

In my experience it makes my hair feel so much thicker (I do already have somewhat thick hair too), and I am not sure if I have noticed about shedding. I have heard other people say they do experience less shedding and increase in hair growth. For me I always notice a healthier scalp, thicker feeling hair, silkier and shinier hair.
Lilia Zokaie It makes your hair soooo much stronger. It has helped me with hair fall. I don’t know if it’s because I stopped using chemical dyes or solely the henna. Or both perhaps?
what product did you use to lighten your henna?
Nini De Jesus I used Garnier Olia, and another bleaching product that I can't remember the name. I have also done a honey/lemon mix for subtle lightening. I have more details on my blog.

I think beetroot juice sounds bomb! Whatever natural additions you fancy ;) I would love to see how that turns out! I would say after a few months you can test out other coloring options - it's your hair, and you can do what you want to ;p - but always use caution if you decide to use chemical treatments as they can be damaging to your hair and your health

Hi Tori! I’m wondering if you are using the bright red or just red for your hair coloring? Also I have medium brown hair with some Auburn tint. Which do you think would look more on the coppery side? There bright or the regular red?
I have been using the regular red for the last almost 3 years, but I have used the Bright red in the past. It is hard to say without seeing your hair, but I always find the color chart that Light Mountain Natural provides super helpful when choosing a color!

No if you use a henna product like the one I use from Light Mountain Natural Hair Color it will not have any additives like metallic salts. Natural henna blends will use only the henna leaves, or blend of henna/indigo/senna leaves. Sometimes other products that advertise "henna hair color" will use henna as an ingredient, but will also be a blend with other ingredients--many of which can be harmful. Always read the labels and check out the brand before using a product! Thanks :)
