This is one of the three songs on their albums during which Page used a violin bow to play the guitar, which was that stretch you heard in the middle. The other songs were "Dazed and Confused", which you've already reacted to, and "In the Light" (on the 6th album).
Album 1 was recorded in about 36 hours during the fall of 1968 and dropped in early 1969. Album 2 was recorded in between the band's many concerts throughout 1969, and was dropped in October of that year. They were certainly a very busy group of guys their first year together, but they never really slowed down much.
Thanks for another great reaction. Glad you enjoyed this song and looking forward to your dive into album 2. :)
Page is amazing!
He used a bow on IN THE EVENING, too!
@@IZZY_EDIBLE If I recall correctly, he used a Gizmotron for the recording but a bow during live performances since the Gizmotron is more "unwieldy" in that it uses small, motor driven wheels to make the strings vibrate.
wow
Led Zeppelin were to rock what Beethoven was to classical music.
Yes, was thinking the same thing!
That look Silas had when Robert does his high pitched wail was priceless, total amazement, loved it lol
To me this is the ultimate Led Zeppelin song. Every band member shines on this song and it’s raw af.
Goodness. This song just absolutely crushed the music world. Most people were listening to the Beatles or Elvis.😂
Believe me, Tony Iommi and Ritchie Blackmore were listening to this album closely. This album changed the approach and direction of both Sabbath and Purple.
This is a perfect example of music releasing endorphins. Your reaction here is textbook.
It's my favourite track from the debut album. That riff is just so relentless. And never has a band groove with such power.
THE 20 MINUTE LIVE VERSION OF THIS FROM ROYAL ALBERT HALL IS FANTASTIC TOO
Four men who were master's at their craft...playing as one..this is the finished product 😮😮😊❤
One of the things bassist John Paul Jones was proud of was how well Zeppelin could groove and get people up and moving. This is a mashup of at least two blues songs such as The Hunter by Albert King and Booker T and the MGs as well as Howlin' Wolf's How Many More Years. Yes, the part in the middle is the guitar being played by a bow. It's awesome that you share your musical appreciation with family members. It's a great way to keep in touch with other generations and other genres of music. Well done!
Babe I’m gonna leave you, you shook me, dazed and confused, and this tune are all some of the most epic, raw, incredible songs to ever grace the planet. And they make up most of the album. For me that’s what makes this album so hard to beat
Welcome to the Zeppelin rabbit hole!!
This tune is an ear-gasm. Just an auditory feast.
Poor Silas... he's got the Led Zeppelin giggles...when every next song is your new fav. 🙂
At 10:19...your eyes along with your mouth open...welcome to the experience of greatness!
Been listening to this band since my youth...circa '69...and still amazed at the "EASTER EGGS" here and there....
Young man, you have exquisite taste in music, you will go far in life.
In the book "Hammer of the Gods" there's a part where Plant talks about the first time he realized the band could become huge. I think it was on their first tour of America, in a club in Boston. They were playing this. Heading into the finale, Plant was singing with his eyes closed. He felt someone poke him in the ribs. He looked up. It was Page, who pointed towards the audience. The entire front row was guys standing at the edge of the stage, banging their heads against it in time to the song. Heh...
Next day, they all had bad headaches. lol
My favorite Zeppelin song. 🙂
The greatest Blues Rock album ever.
I'm so glad to have seen them early 70s here in Perth Australia.
Great reaction to an iconic song by an epic no wait THEE MOST EPIC LEGENDARY GOAT BAND LED ZEPPELIN!!!! Keep it up ☮️
Fantastic band! On to Zeppelin II!! This in 1969...gotta watch it!!
First albun, a little months together...and....The magic is come....¡What kind of beast is Bonzo....! OMG
Nice reaction, I'm liking that not only are you getting into and liking their big hits but you're also liking their lesser known tracks..you're having a real appreciation for their talent ..it's great to see !!
The best is when music make people smile........and you was smiling.
Silas, think about this: When Robert Plant song How Many More... He was 19 years old. Bonhan, 19 to. Page y Paul Jones about 23. Really young people to make this kind of music, to sing with that voice, so especial voice. They four still make me feel the real meaning of this word "genius"
GOATS - Mic drop song....
6:22 The line "I was a young man I couldn't resist" was Robert's take on the opening lines of the song Kisses Sweeter Then Wine from Jimmie Rodgers.
Is wonderfool see you reacts Zeppelin. I, m waiting more Zepp, s reactions. There are so many songs incredibles fron this band. Excuse my english, is not very well. I, m a woman from spain, 63 years old. Whatching you I can see to my son, Jorge, who was died 2 years ago, when he was 18 years. We listeneed good music together. I can feel him across your reaction.
I, m Zeep.
I, m absolutly love with Madison Square Garden concer, 1973. Genius. The bigger
I'm so sorry you lost your son, ma'am. That's much too young to die. Yes Zeppelin is a great band, genius indeed.
❤️🙏🥺
I heard the song live at a Jimmy Page and Robert Plant concert in 1998. As with Dazed and Confused, Page played the middle part with a violin bow on the guitar.
Just watched your reviews of this first album of Led Zeppelin. You are doing what I’ve been telling myself to do for years. I’ll stick with you through it all and hopefully get through all their incredible music!
Nice reaction Silas, I waited all this time till you got to this mind blowing song (which is my fav.) to see it and you truly looked like you were in heaven...lol. Your really gonna enjoy #2... it dosn't have a bad tune on it and is so innovative as well.
WAITING for THIS Review ! Played So Many Times !
enjoy the ride..takes me back to my first listen..
Watch Jimmy bow the guitar in live versions of this song....try Danmark Radio/TV, March, 1969. People didn't know what hit them.
Ha! Yeah, the audience in that video is hilarious! They had their minds’ blown!
Yes!!!
Those Danish kids had no idea how to react 😳
Watch this live at Royal Albert Hall 1970 it is amazing
My fave Zep song
That's how you finish an epic album, boys n gals! Great reaction, glad I subscribed!!
dont stop EVER a Zeppelin Song son...........it is Sac-religous
Between dazed and confused it's a tie for first and second as far as my favorite songs on this album.
Check this song in Radio Dinamarca 1969, one of the hiss firts actuaciones. Robert so timido an his potente voice, Bonhan play the drumer like a rustical man, Page y J.P.Jons like ever, the youn public so estatic. MAGIC
I think you now know how we felt on first hearing about 1969 aged 12, 13, or whatever!
You might want to take a little time to watch some live performances of several of your favorite songs from the first album. If you share with us which songs you’d like to see live we can tell you the performances to watch. The Royal Albert Hall 1970 vid is going to have several standouts
The vocals are insane by Plant
Great review...keep Zep going!
You look exhausted after hearing a Zep song, which is the proper reaction!
That noise you heard and wondered if it was a guitar was- yeah, that Jimmy Page bowing his guitar.
You do these very well. You're a natural. Love your spontaneous reacts to every song!
The lead singer was only 19-years old on this album!
Great Work Silas! Your reactions are very honest and enjoyable, to watch.
Enjoyed the reaction! I hope videos with your grandpa and me, don’t cost you subscribers! 🤪
Totally looking forward to it. 😊
@@jmar7631 Ha!! You are too kind!!
6:10 thats jimmy playing electric guitar with a cello bow!
yep. the first & last tunes on this album are killer....
Unbelievable to have such a potent song the first time out
Young man, you should react to this song live from Denmark, great song
Because Zeppelin was so incredible live, don't forget to include the live performances. Best way to start is to watch the Danmark Radio Show, a blistering 4 song set for Danish TV from 1969. Do them individually or as a set. All the songs are from the first album. Shows Plant at 20yrs old baby face stage.
They were complete crap live
Now Led Zeppelin II hell yeah!
Check the live version of this song for the Denmark TV from 1969.
This sounded very futuristic in 1969. I was eight years old and was in awe when my father brought this home
Hi, I think you would work about lve versions, like Since I been loving you, incredible performance at MSG 1973. I am 60 years old and I grow up with these kind of bands, good luck from Argentina Kid
This lad is about 5 or 6 years older than my grandson and he gets it.
Live at the Danmarks version. Nuff said.
Whoop Whoop!!!!
Page used viollin bow on his guitar..
We sure appreciate the audio better than the video.
yes that is a guitar with a cello bow
It's Jimmy using a cello (I think) bow on the strings of his axe!
Joe Banamassa does a great cover of this
Maybe this is whay I love I speek astronomy
Great reaction you should do these reactions with lyrics whenever possible
I say read the lyrics afterwards when he listens to it again, otherwise I feel if he concentrates on trying to understand it rather than just listen to it, he won't enjoy the music as much, but that's just my take on it, I'm sure it could be debated either way
@@Ledzepnut I agree...its annoying watching the reactors try to figure out what the lyrics mean.
For me, it's like, "Just shut up and listen to the music!"
I was blessed to see them twice in 69.
Wait til you get to zeppelin 4 & physical graffiti albums. Your head hasn't even begun to wrap around zep!
Guitar played with a cello bow!
I've seen references to Page using a cello bow but I had always thought he used a violin bow so I did a little research a while back and found an article in "Reverb" in which they quoted him from interviews.
"Following the sessions for their first album that included his use of bow and Telecaster in "Dazed and Confused" and "How Many More Times," he told Melody Maker: "I use an ordinary violin bow on the guitar, given a little more tension on the horsehair than one would employ for violin playing, plus lots more rosin. It gives an infinite variety of sounds, ranging from violin to cello and from a whistling wind to a Boeing 707 taking off."
When Jimmy picked up the bow on stage, it certainly provided visual drama, and "Dazed And Confused" provided a live showcase for the style, as seen in the footage of the band at London's Albert Hall in the opening weeks of 1970. Jimmy was nonetheless keen to underline the musical importance of the technique. "When I use a violin bow on a guitar it's not just a gimmick, like people think," he told Chris Welch at the time. "It's because some great sounds come out. You can employ legitimate bowing techniques and gain new scope and depth."
Edit: The article was posted in May 2020.
Although most of Zeppelin's catalog, like the Beatles, is not that difficult to play, it is the cleverness, and the swagger in which it was originated that makes it special. Another of Zeppelin's gifts, (like many other greats) was their ability to improvise and jam, and stay completely tight as a unit. A musician telepathy forms in certain groups that makes magic.
How Many More Times Live Danmarks Radio
How’s that for a debut album?
It’s all a story, they play their version of the BLUES. Dude you need to do research. Find out what the blues are, and how it fueled the Musical envision of the 60’s English bands!
PINK FLOYD!

@@happymethehappyone8300 OK fair enough. Here's more high end for the list. Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, Yes, Kansas
Teen Gives Running Commentary not Teen Reacts.
Oh well, his show. Not bad at all
Must be an alternate take...
Don't make em like that anymore!!
During some parts of the song it sounds like you're simple-minded and having sex didn't sound right but great reaction
Led Zeppelin knew that they were doing.
