I’m 70 years old and experienced both albums when they were released. Little did I know that 50 years later I would be enjoying a young man hearing these songs for the first time. Life is strange.
I feel very lucky to have grown up listening to Zeppelin and a lot of the other bands from that time. There was plenty of great bands then, all of them ground breaking, but Zep was still my favorite. To be honest, after bands like this it's hard to get into anything new.
Killer riff with incredible tone! This song is a very powerful medley of Jimmy Page ideas and blues songs from the Yardbirds jams but produced better than any such track in the history of rock at that time and just blazing. Plant’s voice, man!
An amazing end to a ground breaking album. Try Dazed and Confused live from the Song Remains the Same soundtrack, it is one of their very best performances, 28 minutes of Rock magnificence. Enjoy! 🎶🎸🎤🎹🎶

Zeppelin knocked both The Beatles and Elvis off the top of the charts. In 1969 with Led Zeppelin II knocking off Abbey Road and in 1973 with Houses of the Holy knocking off Aloha From Hawaii. 👍
This song is essentially my brain's default riff. It pops into my head any time I am killing time between tasks that don't need 100% of my focus. Being exposed to this track at precisely the point where you are paying attention for the first time to the recording and engineering of albums in general and trying to learn guitar in particular totally changes your perspective of what's possible.
Eight and a half minute song and you'd never know it. This song gives us a whole lotta love - rings, pearls and all. Also, there is a video of them performing this song in 1969 for Denmark television, just months into the formation of the band, and you can see what Page does in the early riffs (no violin bow, but that was my first thought as well)
I can't tell you how earth-shattering this album was when it was released. Jimmy was aware that FM radio was developing in the US at the time with its whole album type of format -another genius plan on his part. My favorite LZ album. Since Good Times Bad Times is your pick for best on the album - they never really did the whole song live in concert until their 2007 reunion concert at the O2 Arena - fabulous - 1st song in the album - 1st song in this filmed concert. Zeppelin sure did know how to close out an album. My favourite track from their early 1969 debut (actually recorded in September '68) has a big Howlin' Wolf influence with that awesome, repetitive riff creating an almost hypnotic groove. Loving your reactions to the artists that I love, Syed.
The title is a nod to Howlin' Wolf's song "How Many More Years" and came about from bits and pieces Jimmy had, per this quote: In an interview he gave to Guitar World magazine in 1993, Page stated that the song "was made up of little pieces I developed when I was with the Yardbirds, as were other numbers such as 'Dazed and Confused'. It was played live in the studio with cues and nods." He's not using the bow in the beginning, instead, it's fast strumming; however, he does use the bow in the middle section. The Rosie/Hunter sections were spontaneous additions the day of recording. "The Hunter" section comes from bluesman Albert King with Booker T & the MGs. Near the end, Robert sings "how many more times, barrelhouse all night long" a "barrelhouse" has been a term in other blues songs and was a bar or saloon that had lively jazz, dancing, and cheap booze so "to barrelhouse" would be to go to a juke joint for raucous jazz, dancing, and boozing. This was a fantastic album and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better debut album by anyone.

We of the generation that produced this kind of amazing music, were also lucky enough to have FM radio. It started with only cuts from the best and also the newest bands, no commercials, and DJs that spoke in quiet voices only to introduce a song. They often played a half dozen in a row without interruption. We listened to it constantly and got to hear all the best of our generation..
Yes, on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan in Michigan City ,Indiana we had a fine reception of an FM album rock station in Chicago, ( forget the call letters being 75 now) Triad Radio 'Songs From Across The Big Swamp' (Lake Michigan)" . Heh. They played only album cuts and Led Zeppelin was one group in 1970. i remember us long hairs would sit on the carpeted large room on bean bags ,toke some Colombian weed and dig on the fine Marantz stereo audio. Ahhh such a sweet era . They are gone forever. Peace.
LZ 1 is definitely one of the best albums of all time - I still remember hearing it when it first came out and went "whoaaaaa - -wtf is this??" Anyway, my first band (as guitarist) at the time, played this song (not to the extent LZ did, but hey, we had good taste!
This masterpiece is my favorite after Communication Breakdown. A brilliant song to wrap up one of the greatest debut albums of all time. It was also masterfully recorded and sounds incredible. Good Reaction!
@@dizzle7558 Yeah, Bonzo was amazing! One of the greats! And that Riff is so catchy and powerful! Page had a great Guitar sound! On top of all that he was a great Producer capturing Zeps sounds live in the Studio so their debut album still sounds incredible and fresh. I read that he learned a lot about mike placement and putting two mics at the right distance and balancing them to get live sound in the Studio. He put mikes on hanging off a ceiling balcony in order to get the height and ambiance of the room and capture Bonzos drumming and make it sound huge and powerful. In a lesser producer, they probably wouldn’t have captured Zeps powerful dynamics the way Page did! And JPJones was a good arranger too and Bass player so they had many strengths. Powerful Vocals by Plant, Bonzos powerful drumming, Pages shredding on Guitar and Jones solid Bass playing! They had it all! They blew people off the Stage on their first Tour in America and nobody wanted to follow them! They quickly became Headliners too so nobody had to anymore. Then Peter Grant was a great Manager who cared about them because he knew he had lightning in a Bottle. It was Grant who demanded more money up front from the Gate and got it because they were such a hot draw live! Now that percentage is standard and Grant didn’t use Zeppelin like Colonel Parker exploited Elvis by taking 50 percent of his earnings. No Manager takes more than 20 percent but the Colonel did. Anyway, Zeps debut album is still my favorite Zep album album along with the Fourth one and Houses of the Holy! Not a bad track on any of those albums! 👏🏻🎸😎

Led Zep I is my go to album. From the jump they carved out their own unique place in music. Fearless. Putting the heavy on traditional American blues. Pain and power. Melody and chaos. A Lead Zeppelin. I can’t think of a better rock debut to the world.

This was the first Zeppelin song I ever heard. A friend just picked up the album on 8 track. We were hanging out at a lake, summertime, girls, beer and 420. I had never heard anything like it before. The heavens parted and my music tastes were never the same again.

If a song was more than 3 minutes long in the 60s, usually the sponsors of the station would INSIST on commerciallization every 3-4 minutes. If a record was longer, (lied about length or not) it would get cut or interrupted by commercials. The ads ran the station, not the music.
As a teen in the late 60's early 70's when FM radio arrived my hometown FM station(KORD) began playing complete sides of a band's album late at night on friday and saturday nights. Great times and great music.
Great anylasis. The only thing I take exception too is that from 1968 to about 1973, Rock was defined by bands being allowed to produce long play songs, and jams. Iron butterfly, Rare Earth, the Doors, the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, The Who , Frank Zappa and really all bands were producing long playing songs, and extended jams. It is my humble opinion why that time frame created the classic rock that will never die.
A couple of musical 'trivia' items: the section starting around 4:00 employs a rhythm called a Bolero (also made famous by Emerson Lake & Palmer, Deep Purple and a few others), and the "they call me the hunter" section is actually a direct ripoff of an existing song - I had heard the Blue Cheer version, butI found out years later that they covered it from someone else, too.
Awesome job, yet again. It might have been mentioned here but there's a live version of this, during the year the album came out that is otherworldly. Really. Even watching the crowd, you can see they are sort of astounded. These guys seem like they are from outer space, and they digested blues, psychedelia, and mystery. You should check this out live. There is incredibly good footage from '69 on YT. One show in black and white(excellent), another in color from Denmark(?) I think. They sound very jazz-like on this live.
The heavy rockin power of Led Zep 2 will knock your socks off. I think it's their most rockin, kick ass album, with heavy bass, amazing guital, powerful vocals and Bonzos power and groove They were playing those songs in '69. Blew people away! Cheers mate

One of my favorites! Great breakdown. Enjoy your your videos! If you want to hear some amazing drumming from around the same time, check out New Orleans funk bands the Meters. Start with the sing Cissy Strut. It may have one of the funkiest bass lines of all time. They also influenced led zeppelin. They may have had the best rythym section of all time, and you'll hear it when you check out their tracks. Highly highly highly sampled in the hip hop world. Almost as much as James Brown. If you want proggy stuff check out the jazz fusion band The Mahavishnu Orchestra. They are mind blowing. Amazing drums, violin, keyboards and one of the best guitarists of all time.
But you're forgetting about the onset of FM radio, which Jimmy Page anticipated. I was a huge FM radio listener in the 70's and 80's and long album cuts from Zeppelin, Queen, Yes, etc. were definitely played in their entirety on FM radio. They often also previewed whole albums. I first heard the entire double "Physical Graffiti" album by Led Zeppelin on FM radio.
You recently put up a poll asking your followers which is the greatest rock and roll band ever, and I was impressed that you listed the same 5 bands that I've long believed are above all others: the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Who and Pink Floyd. Whenever I've asked someone who they think is the best band ever, if they name one of these 5 bands, I know that they know great music when they hear it. If someone answers by naming a band other than one of these 5, I'm disappointed, and actually horrified by their answer sometimes. Anytime you review music from any of these 5 giants of a band, all of them British, all of them iconic, I'll be interested in your reaction. Keep rockin'!
Vic, thanks for your thought provoking response to my comment. It actually strengthened my belief that the Stones, Beatles, Zep, Floyd and the Who are the most important and influential bands in the history of rock and roll. All of them are better than the sum of their great parts. They're all one of a kind and there's real magic in their music. Before your comment, I never considered who the next 5 greatest bands are, and I think it's much more debatable than those iconic top 5 bands. I respect your choices to make up the next 5, and I almost included the Jimi Hendrix Experience in my list, but I humbly select these 5, listed alphabetically: Aerosmith (earlier works) Credence Clearwater Revival Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Bruce Springsteen & the E St. Band U2 For me, it was much harder to pick the next 5 top bands!

John Paul Jones was the producer and arramger for most Zep songs. I've heard a version of this song, pre-John Paul Jones, and it wasn't half as good. They're all, individually, great musicians, but the unsung hero is Jones.
Just for some context, and maybe you don't know, but this came out when FM radio in North America was in its infancy. AM radio stations played the 2 and three minute singles trying to be commercial hits, and songs like this found their place on the FM band, where they were happy to play artists experimenting with the form no matter what the length. FM radio had a huge impact on opening up the boundaries, and without it, it's not hyperbole to suggest bands like Led Zeppelin and others of the era would never have achieved the success they did.
Well first off in terms of the album review, I tend to put Good Times bad times and Communications breakdown as a tie for first place. They seem like sibling songs to me and both of them have that high intensity of energy that just makes you want to go nuts. And for second place I definitely put Babe I'm going to leave you. That is astounding. Simply astounding. Shows you the range from acoustic and just his voice and all the flamingo flourishes of Jimmy Page and it still has a lot of rock in it. Oh my god. Beyond that I like all of them so much. And I would agree that probably Led Zeppelin IV or as it is also called, the Rune album, because it has a picture of runes on it, is probably their most significant album but they were a very significant band throughout their tenure. Just as a teaser I want to go find a link to one of my many favorite songs on their last album, In through the Out Door, before Bonzo died. Just to give you an idea of where this is ultimately headed. I actually think that might be their best album. I definitely didn't think so when I was young, but now that I've been a musician and a composer and an arranger and played in bands for decades, I don't know man, that album is mind-blowingly good. It is phenomenal. I was just resistant to it at the time. It seemed too pop for me I guess. But now I see it as genius level stuff. But before I do that, regarding this particular song in your action, yeah that is definitely the violin or Viola bow, and while it sounds like crying for sure, no way it struck me just now, especially looking at that thumbnail in the upper left of your reaction, it's like for this it plunges underwater. That overhead looming burning Hindenburg zeppelin disaster descending above us suddenly we are underwater, beneath the surface of the ocean, and we are hearing the cries of whales, somewhat distant but not that far away and growing closer and closer. It distinctly has that feeling to me. As far as the term schoolgirl, not only was this prevalent in blues for decades, just for reference, Ten Years After, another white British band well known for adapting or drawing on older blues and turning it into current rock and a bit of psychedelia at the time, one of my favorite bands for sure, one of their biggest hits around 1972 was called, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. Their biggest hit came about an album or two later and about a year or two before they broke up in around 1974, I'd Love to Change the World. But at any rate it just gives you an idea. So check out Bonham and really everybody in just the arrangement and songwriting of a Led Zeppelin that is several years Advanced after that but really not that many albums later and then it abruptly all came to an end. The history on this song is a “legendary “ ladies man nicknamed The Hunter because he had so much sex and 10 children with 1 on the way, not Plant’s own experience. Although he was married with kids as was Bonham throughout their careers. Hope you continue to do Led Zeppelin, also doing their live videos bc many people such as myself are very visual.
All of these lyrics are borrowed from old blues songs (The Hunter) John Lee Hooker. Little schoolgirl....(,Muddy Waters). In fact the song itself is a take on (How Many More Years) Howlin Wolf.
There were radio stations in the U.S.that would play longer form songs like this. The format was technically called Album Oriented Rock. It started on the east and west coasts spreading thru the 70s to the rest of country. Sadly corporations like Clear Channel among others gutted it
All their albums are great. physical graffiti is my personal favorite. But it’s like choosing between giant nearly perfect diamonds with just the right amount of imperfections to make them unique
Impossible to rank Zeppelin's greatest songs or albums. It's like, Stairway is the greatest rock song of all time, but it's not even the best song on LZ4 (that would be Levee). And while LZ4 is the greatest rock album of all time, it's not even Zeppelin's best (that would be Physical Graffiti). Like many others have said in the past; my favourite Zeppelin song or album is the one I just listened to. (Except, of course, PG is the greatest album and Kashmir is their greatest song 😁).
I always thought the schoolgirl reference must be regarding when they met, as it would be impossible for a schoolgirl to have had ten children and still be schoolgirl age.

Regarding your wry comment, "It was another time," to Plant's (borrowed) lyric , "I got a little schoolgirl..." well, it isn't necessarily quite as cringe as you might think, considering that Plant was literally only nineteen years old when this song was recorded. If the "schoolgirl" was a senior in high school, hey, it's not that much of an age difference, you know? She might even be eighteen! (Lol) Now, the song Sick Again, which chronicles Page's dalliance with fourteen-years-old (at the time they first hooked up) Lori Maddux, well, okay. Not good.
Led Zeppelin 4 th album is not called #4, we call it that because it is the 4th, they were critized by the press at the time and said , you know what, we aren't even going to name our next album and it will sell, they released it untitled, to mess with the press and critics at that time.

The playing on these early albums was raw, and the vocals incomparable. It was all energy and no pop-for-radio bullshit.
So much of the genius of their music lies in Paige's production but the immeasurable talent of the four was slipped into it like a glove. The best.

LZ 1 is definitely one of the best albums of all time - I still remember hearing it when it first came out and went "whoaaaaa - -wtf is this??" Anyway, my first band (as guitarist) at the time, played this song (not to the extent LZ did, but hey, we had good taste!
This masterpiece is my favorite after Communication Breakdown. A brilliant song to wrap up one of the greatest debut albums of all time. It was also masterfully recorded and sounds incredible.

On top of all that he was a great Producer capturing Zeps sounds live in the Studio so their debut album still sounds incredible and fresh. I read that he learned a lot about mike placement and putting two mics at the right distance and balancing them to get live sound in the Studio. He put mikes on hanging off a ceiling balcony in order to get the height and ambiance of the room and capture Bonzos drumming and make it sound huge and powerful.
In a lesser producer, they probably wouldn’t have captured Zeps powerful dynamics the way Page did! And JPJones was a good arranger too and Bass player so they had many strengths. Powerful Vocals by Plant, Bonzos powerful drumming, Pages shredding on Guitar and Jones solid Bass playing!
They had it all! They blew people off the Stage on their first Tour in America and nobody wanted to follow them! They quickly became Headliners too so nobody had to anymore.
Then Peter Grant was a great Manager who cared about them because he knew he had lightning in a Bottle. It was Grant who demanded more money up front from the Gate and got it because they were such a hot draw live!
Now that percentage is standard and Grant didn’t use Zeppelin like Colonel Parker exploited Elvis by taking 50 percent of his earnings. No Manager takes more than 20 percent but the Colonel did.
Anyway, Zeps debut album is still my favorite Zep album album along with the Fourth one and Houses of the Holy! Not a bad track on any of those albums!

Led Zep I is my go to album. From the jump they carved out their own unique place in music. Fearless. Putting the heavy on traditional American blues. Pain and power. Melody and chaos. A Lead Zeppelin. I can’t think of a better rock debut to the world.

This was the first Zeppelin song I ever heard. A friend just picked up the album on 8 track. We were hanging out at a lake, summertime, girls, beer and 420. I had never heard anything like it before. The heavens parted and my music tastes were never the same again.

If a song was more than 3 minutes long in the 60s, usually the sponsors of the station would INSIST on commerciallization every 3-4 minutes. If a record was longer, (lied about length or not) it would get cut or interrupted by commercials. The ads ran the station, not the music.
As a teen in the late 60's early 70's when FM radio arrived my hometown FM station(KORD) began playing complete sides of a band's album late at night on friday and saturday nights. Great times and great music.
Great anylasis. The only thing I take exception too is that from 1968 to about 1973, Rock was defined by bands being allowed to produce long play songs, and jams. Iron butterfly, Rare Earth, the Doors, the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, The Who , Frank Zappa and really all bands were producing long playing songs, and extended jams. It is my humble opinion why that time frame created the classic rock that will never die.
A couple of musical 'trivia' items: the section starting around 4:00 employs a rhythm called a Bolero (also made famous by Emerson Lake & Palmer, Deep Purple and a few others), and the "they call me the hunter" section is actually a direct ripoff of an existing song - I had heard the Blue Cheer version, butI found out years later that they covered it from someone else, too.

Even watching the crowd, you can see they are sort of astounded. These guys seem like they are from outer space, and they digested blues, psychedelia, and mystery. You should check this out live. There is incredibly good footage from '69 on YT. One show in black and white(excellent), another in color from Denmark(?) I think. They sound very jazz-like on this live.

I think it's their most rockin, kick ass album, with heavy bass, amazing guital, powerful vocals and Bonzos power and groove

One of my favorites! Great breakdown. Enjoy your your videos! If you want to hear some amazing drumming from around the same time, check out New Orleans funk bands the Meters. Start with the sing Cissy Strut. It may have one of the funkiest bass lines of all time. They also influenced led zeppelin. They may have had the best rythym section of all time, and you'll hear it when you check out their tracks. Highly highly highly sampled in the hip hop world. Almost as much as James Brown. If you want proggy stuff check out the jazz fusion band The Mahavishnu Orchestra. They are mind blowing. Amazing drums, violin, keyboards and one of the best guitarists of all time.
But you're forgetting about the onset of FM radio, which Jimmy Page anticipated. I was a huge FM radio listener in the 70's and 80's and long album cuts from Zeppelin, Queen, Yes, etc. were definitely played in their entirety on FM radio. They often also previewed whole albums. I first heard the entire double "Physical Graffiti" album by Led Zeppelin on FM radio.
You recently put up a poll asking your followers which is the greatest rock and roll band ever, and I was impressed that you listed the same 5 bands that I've long believed are above all others: the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Who and Pink Floyd. Whenever I've asked someone who they think is the best band ever, if they name one of these 5 bands, I know that they know great music when they hear it. If someone answers by naming a band other than one of these 5, I'm disappointed, and actually horrified by their answer sometimes.
Anytime you review music from any of these 5 giants of a band, all of them British, all of them iconic, I'll be interested in your reaction.

Vic, thanks for your thought provoking response to my comment. It actually strengthened my belief that the Stones, Beatles, Zep, Floyd and the Who are the most important and influential bands in the history of rock and roll. All of them are better than the sum of their great parts. They're all one of a kind and there's real magic in their music.
Before your comment, I never considered who the next 5 greatest bands are, and I think it's much more debatable than those iconic top 5 bands.
I respect your choices to make up the next 5, and I almost included the Jimi Hendrix Experience in my list, but I humbly select these 5, listed alphabetically:

John Paul Jones was the producer and arramger for most Zep songs. I've heard a version of this song, pre-John Paul Jones, and it wasn't half as good. They're all, individually, great musicians, but the unsung hero is Jones.
Just for some context, and maybe you don't know, but this came out when FM radio in North America was in its infancy. AM radio stations played the 2 and three minute singles trying to be commercial hits, and songs like this found their place on the FM band, where they were happy to play artists experimenting with the form no matter what the length. FM radio had a huge impact on opening up the boundaries, and without it, it's not hyperbole to suggest bands like Led Zeppelin and others of the era would never have achieved the success they did.
Well first off in terms of the album review, I tend to put Good Times bad times and Communications breakdown as a tie for first place. They seem like sibling songs to me and both of them have that high intensity of energy that just makes you want to go nuts. And for second place I definitely put Babe I'm going to leave you. That is astounding. Simply astounding. Shows you the range from acoustic and just his voice and all the flamingo flourishes of Jimmy Page and it still has a lot of rock in it. Oh my god. Beyond that I like all of them so much. And I would agree that probably Led Zeppelin IV or as it is also called, the Rune album, because it has a picture of runes on it, is probably their most significant album but they were a very significant band throughout their tenure.
Just as a teaser I want to go find a link to one of my many favorite songs on their last album, In through the Out Door, before Bonzo died. Just to give you an idea of where this is ultimately headed. I actually think that might be their best album. I definitely didn't think so when I was young, but now that I've been a musician and a composer and an arranger and played in bands for decades, I don't know man, that album is mind-blowingly good. It is phenomenal. I was just resistant to it at the time. It seemed too pop for me I guess. But now I see it as genius level stuff.
But before I do that, regarding this particular song in your action, yeah that is definitely the violin or Viola bow, and while it sounds like crying for sure, no way it struck me just now, especially looking at that thumbnail in the upper left of your reaction, it's like for this it plunges underwater. That overhead looming burning Hindenburg zeppelin disaster descending above us suddenly we are underwater, beneath the surface of the ocean, and we are hearing the cries of whales, somewhat distant but not that far away and growing closer and closer. It distinctly has that feeling to me.
As far as the term schoolgirl, not only was this prevalent in blues for decades, just for reference, Ten Years After, another white British band well known for adapting or drawing on older blues and turning it into current rock and a bit of psychedelia at the time, one of my favorite bands for sure, one of their biggest hits around 1972 was called, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl. Their biggest hit came about an album or two later and about a year or two before they broke up in around 1974, I'd Love to Change the World. But at any rate it just gives you an idea.
So check out Bonham and really everybody in just the arrangement and songwriting of a Led Zeppelin that is several years Advanced after that but really not that many albums later and then it abruptly all came to an end. Fool in the Rain. And I'd even incorporates steel drums at some point in the middle!

The history on this song is a “legendary “ ladies man nicknamed The Hunter because he had so much sex and 10 children with 1 on the way, not Plant’s own experience. Although he was married with kids as was Bonham throughout their careers.

All of these lyrics are borrowed from old blues songs (The Hunter) John Lee Hooker. Little schoolgirl....(,Muddy Waters). In fact the song itself is a take on (How Many More Years) Howlin Wolf.

There were radio stations in the U.S.that would play longer form songs like this. The format was technically called Album Oriented Rock. It started on the east and west coasts spreading thru the 70s to the rest of country. Sadly corporations like Clear Channel among others gutted it
AOR radio stations were the best, you would hear all he songs ,live tracks, etc…now it’s the same 10-15 old played out songs over and over
All their albums are great. physical graffiti is my personal favorite. But it’s like choosing between giant nearly perfect diamonds with just the right amount of imperfections to make them unique

Impossible to rank Zeppelin's greatest songs or albums. It's like, Stairway is the greatest rock song of all time, but it's not even the best song on LZ4 (that would be Levee). And while LZ4 is the greatest rock album of all time, it's not even Zeppelin's best (that would be Physical Graffiti). Like many others have said in the past; my favourite Zeppelin song or album is the one I just listened to. (Except, of course, PG is the greatest album and Kashmir is their greatest song 😁).

Regarding your wry comment, "It was another time," to Plant's (borrowed) lyric , "I got a little schoolgirl..." well, it isn't necessarily quite as cringe as you might think, considering that Plant was literally only nineteen years old when this song was recorded. If the "schoolgirl" was a senior in high school, hey, it's not that much of an age difference, you know? She might even be eighteen! (Lol)
Now, the song Sick Again, which chronicles Page's dalliance with fourteen-years-old (at the time they first hooked up) Lori Maddux, well, okay. Not good.

Led Zeppelin 4 th album is not called #4, we call it that because it is the 4th, they were critized by the press at the time and said , you know what, we aren't even going to name our next album and it will sell, they released it untitled, to mess with the press and critics at that time.
