    Isn't it great that even without loads of power these Royal Enfield bikes just keep putting smiles on faces , and I think slowly people are starting to realize that being able to use everything it has rather than using 30% of available power is just more satisfying . Enjoy your bike Mark

      I don't agree that revving an engine out is more satisfying than short shifting on large capacity twins. Ironically, short shifting around the quiet Chiang Rai roads could be a role for this RE.

      That is entirely subjective, and not true for the majority of most riders that I know. KInd of a silly statement IMO (which is also entirely subjective). Wringing a bikes neck to safely pass a motorist is not enjoyable, nor satisfying. Not in my opinion. Having that "extra" power gives one more options to navigate the roadways safely and effectively.

      @@wicksleysnipes1476 Totally agree with you. Using 'every bit of a bike's power' is fast becoming a cliche.

      @@wicksleysnipes1476 I totally understand what your saying , as someone who has ridden only sports bikes up to 3 years ago that’s I would see it , so I suppose for me and some others is, that if your riding style and what you want out of a bike has changed for some reason , then sitting behind cars for longer times and not actually thrashing the bike and just enjoying it but just be what some are looking for , it’s definitely not for everyone, I’ve always said buy a bike with your intent in mind so not to be disappointed. Enjoy your bike my friend 😊

    My dad rode bikes. The first one I knew was an A.J.S. 350. He rode it to work every day; about 20 miles each way. Then later, he went up to a Norton Dominator 500. Lovely bike! But the clutch was too heavy. The sound of that will stay with me forever - gorgeous!

    Congrats Mark! Can't comment on the European market but Hunter is going to be the best seller for RE. In Indian market where people are used to 125-150cc bikes, 350 RE Classic/Meteor are considered heavy bikes (may sound funny to most people here). Indians love RE but many people are hesitant to buy "heavy" bikes - given Hunter looks smaller/lighter, it is already pushing RE sales numbers to the next orbit.

    • @Jay_Speed
      @Jay_Speed Рік тому +7

      So the 650 models are not so popular in India, or do I see that wrong. They sold well here in Belgium, but than the Meteor came and that went of. Later the classic did the same, so I think the Hunter is going to do the same, they are here this week.

    • @MrPrash1234
      @MrPrash1234 Рік тому +21

      @@Jay_Speed The market for 650 cc is very small here. Our economic reality is different. Most of the 2 wheelers sold here are 125-150cc which are very fuel efficient and cost around 1000-1500 USD. 350cc bikes are on the expensive side (around 2500$) but RE has a cult following so they sell in good numbers. 650cc motorcycles are expensive (starting 4200$) and not that fuel efficient. So you start with a small scooter/motorcycle. When you have more money, you buy a small car and upgrade your scooter to a RE 350/411. When you have more money, you get a bigger car :). Bigger bikes haven't caught the imagination of people yet.

    • @thelayoffm965
      @thelayoffm965 Рік тому +4

      @@Jay_Speed You'd be correct. Apart from the upfront cost, India has quite a higher (comparatively) fuel pricing so bikes with lower mileage isn't preferred by most.
      Add to it the fact that we got rather bad roads at places and huge traffic and speed limits in Urban areas, we can't use the full available power of a 350 most of the time, let alone a 650.

    • @Jay_Speed
      @Jay_Speed Рік тому +3

      @@MrPrash1234 Which is the most sold brand than, is it Hero ? What do you think of Mahindra going into bikes like the BSA.

  • @lestersmyth692
    @lestersmyth692 Рік тому +34

    The Hunter looks amazing and is priced very well compared to overpriced competitors (if RE have any…) Perfect for A & B roads possibly out of its comfort zone on faster motorways but that’s not what this bike is about. Great review Mark, I’m really tempted 👍

    • @0arjun077
      @0arjun077 Рік тому +7

      Yes they have here in India Jawa & Yezdi, they have few models here (Classic legends were bought by Indian company Mahindra) but they are nowhere near RE in terms of sales. The only brand that hit the sweet spot is Honda with its Highness 350 and 350RS models, according to me the best 350 in the category.

      Whilst I respect the opinion of the reviewer. Having owned the classic I found it to be underpowered. Hit a headwind and the slightest incline you will struggle to mantian 50mph. With traffic nearly into your numplate. I bought the Honda. It will accelerate up hills. Return virtually the same on fuel etc. And unlike my enfield not knock and rattle and developed faults perhaps this the soul part of the bike 😊😊

    Have commented before Mark, just wondered what mileage you had on the bike when you produced your review. You seemed to be quite happy at about 50-55MPH in 5th (seemed quite reasonable to me ) even though above the RE recommended figures for initial run in. I think as long as you don’t rev the nuts off it and you don’t let the engine labour all should be fine. I have a Dapper Grey on order and that’s going to be my strategy. I'm not so sure yet but one cannot argue with its value for money price tag. Definately an economical every day machine for relaxed riding. Hey who knows Mark, I may very well buy one. Once again thank you. You obviously we're impressed since you have bought one. I.'ll look forward too further reviews from you once you have put some more miles on it.

      don't about 650, but you can expect a liq cooled Hunter 450. I've seen them being spied tested here in India. Sources have confirmed it will be a single cylinder making 42hp with 47nm torque equiped with usd forks. There'll also be a himalayan with same engine.

    A very informative and intelligent assessment of this machine. From what I have seen on YT, the RE's we get in the UK seem to be "de luxe" models. The wiring on the Indian versions looks like a rats nest, for example. However, the Indian models are I believe, cheaper to buy so the export versions must be rather expensive in India but well priced in the UK. Although many people carp on about the BHP of the Re 350's, the output of the engines of the G3 models in the UK in the early 1960's was 20BHP and the top speed 70mph or 80 on a good day! It has been claimed that the reborn RE 350's have a rev limiter built into the ECU and 5th gear is an Overdrive. A very interesting machine.

    Another great review Mark ☺️, hope you're pleased with your purchase. I'll be interested in viewing your longer term review of it when you've got the miles on it too see if you encounter any problems,or niggles with it. It is a bike I am considering for next year,the only thing I can't quite get my head round,is my honda cb250rs I owned in my youth was 26bhp and had a dry weight of 136kg,top speed indicated 90mph,and that was adequate. Just a pity they felt the need to restrict it too 20bhp, when a 350 should have at least 35bhp, but I spose it was done for reliability and longer service intervals.

      Engine type ,, not displacement determines max power output (hp)..
      For a 350cc single to have more than 35hp you need it to have a short stroke, water cooled, and high compression..
      The Zontes GK350 is such a bike.. 350cc single with bore/stroke ratio of 1.36 and water cooling.. This engine pushes out 38hp at 9500rpm.. though 20.2hp from 350cc eventhough it is long stroked (bore/stroke ration = 0.84),, and air-cooled seem low.. 15% more power at 23.2hp would seem feasible without loosing low end. (a camshaft change can give you these results),,

      I also had a cb250rs and agree with you, it was a great bike. I suppose the reason modern bikes are generally heavier , and sometimes less powerful is euro 5. The cb250rs had no weighty electric starter, so probably had a lighter battery too, but consumers now seem to demand electric start. It didn't carry the weight of a catalytic converter or ABS and crucially didn't have to run so lean to meet emission regulations, nor were noise rules so strict.
      Given the restrictions I would say RE have done well to produce an air cooled engine that develops 75% of its max power at 4000 rpm which must make it very pleasant to ride.

      @Ijusthopeitsquick Рік тому

      @@baleshwarnathsharma Torque and power are both real measurements, but only power is relevant to the performance of a vehicle, since acceleration and speed are determined by power, not torque. Torque is a measure of rotational force, but such a force is meaningless until it is converted to linear motion, which is why a pair of human legs can exert 250 NM of torque to the pedals of a bicycle (more than most diesel engines) but struggle to propel that bicycle at more than 20 mph.

    Hi Mark. Great vid as always.
    I went to my local RE dealer to look at one of these.
    I noticed a lot of bolts on the underside of the rear mudguard. I think these could become furred or rusty pretty quickly so will need to be checked and cleaned and greased pretty regularly.
    Be interested to know if you plan to use it through the winter and how it fares afterwards. 👍
    Congratulations on the new bike and enjoy it.
