This whole symphony is brilliant! I have played piano & celesta a couple of times, for example in Helsinki Philharmonic under beloved James de Preist.

This part is my best love of Shostakovich's. Nothing compares this part in how percussion is leading the music.

As a percussionist, I always love playing cymbals with a Russian composer's music. I'm old now, so I don't know if I could pull off Tchaikovsky'ys 4th, but I think I could do this one :)

Indeed I feel a lot of Anti-Soviet agitaton and bourgeouis formalism on it. Luckly, Comrade Jdanov will apply the due measures.

@@roberts932 obviously. Just pointing out that the double bass has a striking resemblance to Gorbachev. Besides, he was alive when this concert was recorded.

    eeerrrrr . . what am i to say . .
    Allegro non troppo does mean
    NOT TOO FAST.
is this yet another case of a conductor ignoring the composer's own directions for the sake of cheap thrills??

Nonsense about ‘Too Fast’. Shostakovich would have approved it.
