Love the van build. Watching you work on sealing the roof, I feel you may have a future icing cakes! Glad to see Charlie come to check up on progress. Just wait until he is working alongside you sighing and rolling his eyes......Stay well and safe all of you. Thanks for sharing x
Make sure you buy a security device for the OBD port (below steering wheel right side)either put a tracker on it or apple air tag.Lots of vans of this model are now getting stolen in seconds.
I used aquarium sealant on my roof bungs. A dollop at 12 o'clock and run your finger around the edge of the bung, done. Ford put these bungs in and then send the body to the paint shop after a few years in the sun the bungs shrink and they leak.
Good idea to get the roof rack up first and unless you're 10ft tall, no one is going to care what the sealant looks like. I'd be laying it on thick as well to make sure you I don't have to do it again. Great work Mate.
Water finds its way in the tiniest of holes, you can never do too much waterproofing. Hammerite is good stuff, I've used it on vehicles & many other rusted applications & as long as you follow the instructions it's very successful.
I know what u mean about the rain here in the UK. Twice yesterday I went down the garden to the shed to get the mower out and twice it started raining so I gave up for now. Xx your baby boy is so cute xx
In my opinion, you can never waterproof the roof too much, it's the detail at this point that will pay dividends in the long run, the roof rack looks amazing and very robust.

Loving the Cornish weather! Beautiful views from the roof of your van, when you are not in the cloud! As others have mentioned great idea to get the roof rack on first, though having a small piece of wood to sit on might have made the job more comfortable - probably more useful advice for when you get to work on the roof in better weather (cutting the hole for your fan / fitting the solar panels) as it didn't look like you were still for very long in this video! The best part was seeing Kate and Charlie coming to inspect the work (or check you'd not been blown away!) ... be good to see more of them when they are ready to appear / when the van is closer to ready for them to be comfortable I'm hoping April brings you better weather to work in
Really good work Shaun, it's better to get it all done properly the first time, What a view you will have when the deck is put on! Keep up the good work, Charlie steals the show! Rgds Alan
Another good video to watch Shaun. How frustrating for you with all that blinkin' rain! Love the roof rack.. Pleased Kate and Charlie came along to see you. Hope family life is going well…don’t stay up too late editing footage…you need your sleep too 😉 Babies (and wives 😂) can be tiring! Take care 😀
Great roof rack shaun them plugs always leak. Can i say i would have got a sander on the rust bits then treat with rust killer then paint, it will come back to bite you in the coming months. And when the decking is down you wont be able to get to it, i would do it now just a comment. Love seeing your build stay safe 👍
Not sure if you have done it..Side strips need sealing, few other things...I could go through it but there is a thorough video by - Tess Carver Waterproofing the Van (Van Build: Ep. #4) ..Hope this helps..
Thanks I’ve just watched it and it’s weird you said that because I did find a bit of water the other day on the right wheelarch and thought where is that coming from and I think it’ll be the roof side strips that I haven’t sealed
@@LoveSundays Might be roof or side strips..Look this up ( Sprinter/Crafter DESIGN FLAW!! You MUST Seal Your Side Trim ) there are a few on Fords but a lot don't show how to use a trim tool to remove, put sealant on the clips put back on....All vans after a few years leak, mainly the fault of the manufacturers, so go hard..lol..Disaster getting any type of leaks behind insulation..
I’ve done the plastic panels on the side already but there is a John on the transit between the side panel and the high top that could be letting water in
@@LoveSundays Well the best thing to do then is to go hard on any factory top bolt spots, and along the strips on the roof and you will be solid....Use painters tape, but looks on the roof don't matter much...That Tess vid she nails it...I would use a a light bit of wet and dry first where you want to seal, wash off then let it dry off, then wipe with alcohol or acetone, then put on sealant....You will be water tight %100, keep on keeping on..
hi , with what you have sealed the roof noobs ? what is that and what brand it is ? and that brand was that rust crust bottle ? and what type of sealant you use for the rack ?thanks.
Hi Shaun. It’s coming together nicely mate and it’s looking good buddy.. oh and we have a date for a meeting to find out the meaderys fait. 11th may so we need to keep everything crossed that day 😊
Don't fret my mk8 transit roof leaks as well it's annoying and if leaking from front check the ariel seal and rear the top brake light are common for leaks

You did a brilliant job, just getting the roof done, we've not had many days in March down here without rain... Let's hope April is better... The forecast is looking brighter... And should be better for your build... Maybe a pop up Awning for working under with your tools 😉... Or maybe not 😂
Found it useful while working on my transit... I've got a polycarbonate roof, not too far from the van... Absolutely Marvellous for our rainy days... Waiting for dry Spring weather to rust treat the underneath of the van... Lanoguard comes highly recommended 😉☀️
What sealant did you use please? I sealed all the stupid grommets with sikaflex EBT+ just to find out that it started leaking again after two months... The sikaflex literally crumbled to bits.
Thanks for the great series. I have exactly the same van and started last week.. The height is just fab (Im 6'3").. Quick question. What brand of roof rack was that. Would have clicked through a link for ya.??
It's coming on dude. I'm still waiting for a dry (ish) day to fit my side windows and roof vent. Will this bleddy rain ever end? Love the roof rack but couldn't find a link in your van build gear for it? Later. ✌
Curious how this could have been done without the roof rack? Any solutions other than putting weight on the roof and hoping for the best? When it comes to dealing with water, just generally speaking i think its best to refer to the canal boating world and see what they would do. Any materials they apply to metal boats to deal with water should lend itself to van builds too, albeit more pricey.
