Jessica no matter if the bedding is wet or dry you should be wearing a good mask to protect your lungs. Jessica here is a little treat for peaches. You get a yard broom with the really strong bristles and screw or bolt it to one of her outdoor posts for her to have a scratch pole. cows love them
Jessica so happy your feeling better. We've missed you 🙂 That's some cray cray weather. In the negatives here in Wyoming and like you I'm recovering from the worst flu I've ever had. Hug Gma, Aaron and the kids! Bless you 🙏♥
The deep litter method doesn’t need to be changed but once every 2-3 years, turning the litter every two weeks and adding a fresh layer. As it breaks down it can actually keep your chicks warmer in the winter. It doesn’t smell either. I’ve been doing this method for years and works wonderful. The ice is beautiful but so dangerous glad you have spikes ! I’ve been enjoying watching your channel ❤
Jessica, those colors look absolutely fantastic on you. So beautiful outside. Thank you for sharing. I'm glad your better. Your voice is back. Be Blessed
Glad your recovery is at hand. Here in the Ohio Valley, it looks like a winter wonderland. We have had storm after storm and very cold temps. We have the spikes for walking on ice too. Back in the day I did my winter outdoor chores wearing my old golf shoes. They were great. Until our next visit...Keep safe on your "ice rink". ❤ Momma G
So glad you are feeling better Jessica! I missed you and your videos. You have a wonderful family taking care of you and your chores. I joined your buy me a coffee subscription and loved the extra videos on that site. We have blue sky summer in Brisbane, Australia with the temperature sitting at around 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Your lake was beautiful in the sunset. From Coryn 🥰
I'm so happy that you are feeling better, Jessica . It sounds like a lot of us are sick with head colds or flu or something. Definitely stay in as much as you can and kudos on the spikes. Rest and recuperate and see you next time.
Crazy weather! There is bare ground in spots where my sister lives and neither one of us can remember ever seeing that as kids growing up in Alaska! I do remember stepping off the back porch and sinking up to my shoulders though! 😂
One thing we use in a pinch on our icy driveway in western Quebec is the ash from our wood stove. Just keep it away from where you park and your entryway. We use sand for those areas to keep the soot from being tracked back into the house
I am glad you are feeling better. I have been struggling with what felt like a head cold just before Christmas. On the 23rd I decided it was more. Long story short, I tested positive for Covid. I did not get terribly sick, but was extremely exhausted. I live in central Minnesota and our winter has also been strange. December was warm, now in January we have more average temps. However, we have no snow. I am also worried for perennials. On the plus side with sunshine, I have enough energy to take my dog for a walk. Then tea and a rest😊
The weather is definitely crazy this winter. The lake looks beautiful, but I can't believe there is so much water on top of the ice! Well, at least the animals got a winter refresh. Lol. I pray you recover fully from your sickness. I dealt with walking pneumonia during Christmas, and still coughing. Ugh. God bless you all!
Jessica, I'm so happy you are feeling better what ever this bug is going around its awful it just doesn't want to let go and move on. I caught the same thing started in stomach than turned into the flu or something that settled in the lungs. It seems its everywhere so many has it and had turned into pneumonia so please take care and rest extra vitamins . O i almost forgot you made elderberry that will be good for you of course you know that you have such great knowledge in so many things.. sending you prayers for complete healing comfort and strength and May you all have peace and happiness 🙏 i hope Gmom stays well and understands about everyone just being worried about her getting outside and hurting herself GOD BLESS HER 🙏🕊️🙏💛
We are in West Tn and we are expecting 5 to 8 inches of snow starting Thursday nite into Friday! We don’t get a lot of snow so everything will shut down by Friday! It’s been high 30 low 20s….Mother Nature is staying confused this Winter Season! Glad you are feeling better
I really miss living in Alaska, I didn't think I'd miss it as much as I do. We were there for 10 years, the last 4 in Wasilla. We just moved back to the lower 48 in February last year. Maybe one day we will get back. I Absolutely love watching your channel and seeing the places you go that I use to go to lol and watching you homestead in Alaska. I am so glad you are feeling better🙂
I am so glad that you are all safe and well again (well slowly but surely), I'm also glad that everyone else picked up the slack to help you rest and recuperate 😊, The lake looks beautiful and I'm sure the snow will return soon 🤞and life will return to normal 😊. Hope you all stay blessed and live, love and be happy Xx
You look great Jessica. Several other Alaska folks have said the same thing about all the lack of snow this year. Weather is crazy all over the U S this year. You be blessed. Hug g mom for me.
It’s colder here in Missouri than it is in Alaska! 😂 I’m glad you’re feeling better. I came down with COVID the day after Christmas and I was sick for almost 12 days. It’s been rough, but I finally feel like I’ve turned a corner. Hang in there. 💕
Glad you're feeling better. Your cold air and snow has come down to the lower 48. I'm in Eastern Tennessee - it's been in the low 30's for the last few days and we are about to get colder (17 degrees tonight). Flurries all day today and we're bracing for a "huge" winter storm this weekend. I've lived here 8 years and haven't seen a big one yet - maybe this is our year! Take care - love and hugs to you and your family.
Please take care of yourself and get completely well. Here in Nebraska we have your cold temperatures and snow but this is January. Love your videos! ❤
I hear what you're saying. We have similar weather in Edmonton, AB. It was very cold last week (-28C) and today it was 4C. We prefer a nice layer of nice white snow rather than melting snow on top of ice. Glad you're feeling better! There is really something going around. I'm still not back to normal after getting really sick for over a month which hit me in November. Hope you were able to enjoy your Christmas somewhat. 😊
I got sick the same way, I had a stomach virus for about two weeks, and then my husband got covid, which I then got. It was a long two months! We were warmer than usual too, in the Rockies with no snow for Christmas at all, we just got two storms back to back. A crazy winter for sure.
I was worried about where you were, so glad your feeling better. Next time your down like that tell Aaron he needs to vlog lol. Keep well stay safe❤ much love to you and your family.
Glad your feeling better Jessica. Hope everyone else, especially Gma stays healthy. Your animals look great. Here in NH we had snow early, now the ground is bare, luckily without the rain turning to ice. Have a feeling we’re going to get dumped on soon. Stay healthy!
Jessica, I'm in Louisville Kentucky. It's amazing but unbelievable that I've got more snow than you have! We were in the big Winter Storm that happened this week here in the Midwest. Louisville got 8.8 inches of snow, then 1/2 inch of ice and sleet! Now the temp is dropping to the single digits and maybe below 0!! On top of that, we're getting another round of snow Friday and Saturday!! This is the most snow in Louisville since 2015! Last 2 years we've had a total of about 3 inches all Winter! I was seeing all your snow last year, crying hoping I'd get to see it here. I've stocked up on alot of stuff so I'm not worried about running to the store on the bad roads. So I'm actually enjoying seeing the snow. I've got 2 kitties and this is the first time the baby has ever seen snow. She sits on the big ledge by our big windows watching the snow come down. It's amazing her. I bought in some snow for both of them to see, and the baby loved playing with it. Lol. I love seeing the animals y'all have. Thank you for loving them and caring for them. Sending love from Louisville Kentucky ❤❤❤

This is some wild weather. I'm in East Tennessee...right now (8:45 PM) it's 27. Had snow flurries this afternoon. We're supposed to get a big storm Friday. Glad I don't have to leave the house.

Hard to believe your temps are in the forties and here on Cape Cod we are in our twenties. Scary weather everywhere down here in the lower forty eight. Your chickens look good. Happy rabbits and Peaches is always a joy to see. Thanks for sharing. Be careful out there and don’t fall. Take care from Cape Cod✌️🇺🇸❤️

Hello Modern Homestead Alaska Hope You Feel Better Soon. We got Hit with 9 1/2 inches of Snow not used to this when you haven't seen it for a Long Time. Hugs & Kisses ❤️
I was doing some running around this morning and had to go to the post office. I live in suburbia, but adjacent to some bigger farm/rural areas and this post office is right in the middle of all of that, right next to a park and a small creek...and the wettest, heaviest, fattest flakes of snow started coming down when i walked outside...and i was honestly taken aback at just how **silent** it was for a moment. Just stood there for 5 seconds and enjoyed the beauty and silence. And then i got back into my car with Taylor Swift LOLOLOLOLOL
Life long Alaskan originally from SouthWest Alaska. I remember more than one brown Christmas and glare ice New Years. Also remember wading through snow on Halloween. My Dad, though, remembers 50 below winters, which I have not seen in my lifetime. We do have a photo of huge snow drifts in May also. So, weather is all over the place here in Alaska. Also, I think most of the perennials will be fine. Don't think I've ever lost any to freeze thaw.

@@modernhomesteadalaskayes lots of straw. It’s so weird to see the straw with no snow in January. It’s wild. lol I’ve lived here my whole life and have never seen this.
Ohhhhh....leave the old bedding!!! Just turn and fluff it and add shavings to the top. The decomposing bedding is exothermic giving off heat, even if only a little. Also, if you leave the new shavings in a few piles, the girls will spread it out which offers them enrichment and is really fun to see!!!! They are wonderful home makers😂 We weren't getting any eggs either for a month or so. I started sprouting grains from Fred Smith and egg production skyrocketed!!!! We leave the Mill and Feed in the free feeder and feed the sprouts grains once a day.
Reason why they peck them is the other chickens see little black spots on their backs where the feathers are coming back and think it’s food so they peck at them.
Hello 👋 Jessica im glad to see your feeling better and happy new year ,im catching up on your video's, we have had fires near our property in Australia, im just curious as to what fish you have in your lake ? Absolutely beautiful footage in this video.
Love warm weather in January but yes it gives you the gardening bug...i live in northern Wisconsin and we don't have much snow either. But we have enough ice for fishing. I still keep saying we will pay for it and get dumped on in April and may. God bless
Hi Jessica! I think we are getting Alaska's weather here in the lower fourth eight. I live in NC and it's 38° here today. They are calling for snow and freezing rain here Friday. Strange, strange weather.
We have 12 inches of snow and temps of 10. We’re expecting another round of snow this weekend. We don’t usually get this weather in St. Charles, Missouri. ❤
Jessica I'm in Minnesota and we are have NO snow!!! It has been very cold here. I wouldn't worry too much about your plants. I very seldom loose any plants. It's the darn deer that come thru and eat on my fruit trees. So glad you are doing well! Question, are you going to do any winter sowing?? I did last year for the first time and had amazing luck! I would encourage you to try a few jugs.

We weren't getting any eggs either for a month or so. I started sprouting grains from Fred Smith and egg production skyrocketed!!!! We leave the Mill and Feed in the free feeder and feed the sprouts grains once a day.
Great tips! Thank you so much!
No fish in our like it freezes solid so fish can’t survive
Love warm weather in January but yes it gives you the gardening bug...i live in northern Wisconsin and we don't have much snow either. But we have enough ice for fishing. I still keep saying we will pay for it and get dumped on in April and may. God bless
It is always interesting to see how weather varies! I gets the garden bug running!
You sure look pretty today. You also sound better. Crazy weather.
Oh thank you!

The ice sure is beautiful but treacherous!! Be careful. We've gotten your weather here in Ohio but don't mind it, I do like the cold weather. ☃️❄️🌨️
Black sunflower seed are good for chickens that are molting.
Shredded paper makes great insulation for a chicken coop!
Northwestern Michigan is sitting at 16 degrees
Glad you're feeling better!!! What if you separate Rebecca until she can fully recover? Love your videos. Please keep them coming!! ❤❤
I’m putting a saddle on her then they can’t peck her
Hi Jessica! I think we are getting Alaska's weather here in the lower fourth eight. I live in NC and it's 38° here today. They are calling for snow and freezing rain here Friday. Strange, strange weather.
It sure is strange weather! I’m 40 and sunny and no rain or wind today! It’s just plain beautiful out
Anissia I'm in Frankfort ky and we are covered in ice.
Im in Lafayette IN and its a high of 27 today
Very strange winter. 2 years ago, I got plowed out 3 times. This year, not once!
We have 12 inches of snow and temps of 10. We’re expecting another round of snow this weekend. We don’t usually get this weather in St. Charles, Missouri. ❤
That’s wild!
Hi Jessica
For the next week your going to be warmer than use in the east
Jessica I'm in Minnesota and we are have NO snow!!! It has been very cold here. I wouldn't worry too much about your plants. I very seldom loose any plants. It's the darn deer that come thru and eat on my fruit trees. So glad you are doing well! Question, are you going to do any winter sowing?? I did last year for the first time and had amazing luck! I would encourage you to try a few jugs.
We don’t winter sow, or I don’t attest
😊😊
