16:35 Look, carbon brushes jumping because commutator is not round - its egg shaped. Instead of use sand paper, you definitely need lathe to restore round shape of commutator.
@@majedaelectricworkshop I made good experience with taking a sharp utility knife and scraping/smoothing copper teeth surfaces in the longitudinal direction
To an extent what grade you use alters that :-) More important is type of abrasive though: Silicon carbide (as used on emery cloth) embeds in the surface of the copper & can cause very rapid brush wear. Glass paper does not & used to be recommended for cleaning commutators in old books. It wears out very quickly however & is consequently harder to find these days. What the situation with aluminium oxide is I'm afraid I don't know, use at your own risk.

I try to avoid treating commutators with sand paper because the copper teeth surface becomes rough, which is not good for the carbon contact brushes
