I thought I might tell you this is one of my favorites, all the steps and seeing that great lathe in operation. Good music too Thank you! Nice motor too!
The industrial electric motor world is a very interesting one. Cool to see you use the same techniques that we do here in the USA.
Loved the video.
It's hard work
Yes, brought back old memories of when I was young!
Awesome job
Nice rebuild - incidentally, in this context "charbon" is "brush" and "collecteur" is "commutator"
Thank you for your comment, the texts have been translated by software
Good job
Excellent video, great motor overhaul. Please make more video's.
Motor wispert! Super
Vin Diesel machining the commutator
Great Work its nice to see how other doing the same job
Echt tolle Videos! Super Arbeit, formidablé !
Very Nice Overolling System of DC Motor. Thanks are all.
Very very good sir. Well done. Thanks and I enjoyed alot.
It's amazing how quiet DC motors really are compared to large AC motors.
This motor in operation would be cooled by a large centrifugal fan driven by another motor, as is shown near the end of the video.
Greetings from a big electric motor fan in Berlin.
Also a fan of big engines, but in a small company. With us, the limit is 8 tonnes ... because of the overhead cranes! www.pascal-delafontaine.ch/ www.yves-mamin.ch/Travail/Pascal%20Delafontaine%20SA%20Electrom%C3%A9canique/index.htm
Many thanks for sharing every detail of step ...>.
Thanks for the video!

belissimo trabalho 👏👏👏👏
very nice work...
Really nice job, I can see a lot of effort in there. Grüße aus Argentinien
Nice job
I like the brute puller at the start
10 Amp in idle current per phase for a 600kW motor is dam good, but the swedes know what they are doing as usual.
dtiydr its normal for a DC machine in idle
@@BennysKanal as said If it's done right.
what impresses me even more is that they can make this motor run stable with such a weak field. Only 1,7 kW for the excitation for a 600 kW motor is insanely low
6:00 - riddick like alive!
Nice catch
Trabalho de excelência.
Obrigado !
Good job.
gran trabajo, excelente.
very nice....
those unsecured hooks at 2:23 are terrifying. if they slipped off you'd lose your foot
You want to be very observant,
there are four hooks (2x2) on either side of the plate. The two rods are blocked in the holes. This is the only way to obtain a perfectly vertical position of the plate.
All shits including grease goes to the storm water drain. Nice!
Very good remark, All the water in the washing place is collected in a grease separator emptied and cleaned once a year.
The water leaving the separator is treated as waste water by the sewage treatment plants. (State obligation in Switzerland) Breaches of the law on the protection of water are very very expensive, in addition to the costs of cleaning up rivers and lakes also payable by the offender!
Il est énorme ce moteur 😅😅
Great job!
Nice video
5kw draw with no shaft-load? That's one big motor
'part to parts' Super. Make more that video :-)
Thanks for shared.
Nice video sir

How much would cost that service aproximately ?
Around CHF 3'000 to CHF 5,000 of manpower (Swiss Francs) ,ball bearing supplies and coals : CHF 3'000. Depending on the condition of the engine. ( CHF 140 per hour for labor.)
Thank you for the attention, excellent job! Another subscriber from Brazil :)
That Oerlikon lathe is even more fascinating. Schrage motor?
It's a video idea to remember, thank you. The lathe motor is of the three-phase asynchronous type. I made a video about the Schrage engine ua-cam.com/video/DDwQ_5ihaf0/v-deo.html
I just uploaded a video about the Oerlikon lathe, thank you again for your idea ua-cam.com/video/jwB7mojkadA/v-deo.html
awesome!

Good
Nice!
Is it a Suhner pencil grinder being used to grind down the insulation between the commutator bars?
yes it is a Suhner
Merci !
wow 600kw in such a small motor. I bet it needs some serious cooling!
compensating winding boost the interpole increases the power.

Hi! Could you explain a little more about what you mentioned? Thanks from Argentina !!
Where was this electric motor used?
Greetings from germany
Well that was an easy enough 10 grand... motors aint cheap..
It is odd that the 6th brush holder is not used. It would reduce amperage per brush, and distribute brush / segment wear more evenly. They're not conserving anything by not having the 6th brush installed. At 6:10 he shaves off the unused brush surface thickness to the same depth as everything else.
This is a false belief.
A brush behaves better and there is less wear and tear when it is moderately hot. if there is too much brush, the amperes per square minimeter are too low and seizure or stains on the collector may appear. When there are quality problems on the collector surface, the first attempt to correct the problem is to reduce the number of brush or their section. As a general rule one should not have less than 2 amps per square minimeter, this rule is not absolute the environmental conditions can also have an influence.
That's an interesting topic! I wonder how it is managed in locomotives' DC traction motors where the brushes should work just as well at max (rated) current while starting-accelerating, and at much lower amperage at speed - anywhere from -2000 to 2000 RPM.
A common loc around here for example: 1400 V, 1050 A (starting 1700), series excitation (with shunts), sensitive beast prone to flashover - and two pf these to double the fun :)
Looks very expensive and time-consuming. No wonder they're replacing these with VFDs and induction motors.
For new installations yes !
For the perfectly functional old no!
These engines are 30 years old and operate without problems. We also work with VFDs, their lifespan does not exceed a few years and there are always compatibility problems when they are changed. It is a waste of raw materials !
The VFD generates other problems just as expensive as the overhaul of these old engines ( ua-cam.com/video/LsLmwEiDdTQ/v-deo.html )
What is a motor like this used for.
Its huge
Blower, glass wool production

How this work is called? What do i have to learn to do the same ?
Electro-mechanic, automatic engineer, winder, machine builder
It 's very tired and consumes nerves, eyes and memory ... Working in electricity is very hard
Thank you for a nice documentary video. Btw, at 7:40, horrible sound, like a dental drill, ou ou ou ... :))
Hello mr yves very good restoration video.
Can you please tell me the difference between a dc motor like this and a dc welding generator?
I mean can be used a dc motor like that if I give him rotation for welding generator?
Thank you
In theory with certain motors yes, the excitation coils must be fed in a different way in order to produce the maximum of magnetism during the welding not too much between the periods of welding in order to avoid overvoltages.
I understand. Thank you for your help.
How can I control the output amperage of the motor because in welding must the amperage to be adjustable.
What can I use for amperage control?
Some reostat or variac?
Can you please give me an idea?
Thank you
Do not know your generator, but in principle you have to put a rehostat in the excitation circuit. A variac is for AC.
Thank you very much for your help
Best regards
Nice work, perfect tools 👍🏻
How much horsepower does it produce?
600kW = 800HP (1HP = 0.75kW)
Using an electric tool, to under cut the Mica?
As an apprentice,I was made to do that by hand, using a Hacksaw Blade.......
and there you have the reason: you where an apprentice. you don't get to have the nice tools.
Im always scared to wash an armature because there is a chance that it will push a bunch of wet carbon against the back of the comm.
It's fair, it's not shown on the film but we try to vacuum as much as possible with a vacuum cleaner before. The insulation check after drying is not always good and for some very dirty motors it is necessary to wash two or three times

Good job
