"There really aren't any solid guides on the internet...." You said a mouthful there, my friend! Thank you for this very informative video. I'm still struggling to get Reaper to recognize the Native Instruments plugin I just installed. I suspect the answer lies in yabridge, so I will look further into that.
Man, what a great tutorial video. No bullshit, to the point, and covered every potential gap in knowledge for issues you could run into while setting this up. I ran into the JavaScript error and everything going through this. Incredible. Subbed.
Also an important note! The native access 1.14.1 file currently downloads with a space before the exe extension and won't find the file with that there. Replace spaces with underscores and it runs fine
Sadly Native Instruments has started to feature new versions only on Native Access 2, for example Kontakt is available in NA legacy only up to 7.6.1, while now it's on 7.8 or higher in NA 2...
I'm definitely going to give this a shot using Reaper on Arch. Native instruments has been giving Linux the cold shoulder for years despite the interest.
haha for real. literally all NI would have to do is port the Kontakt player to Linux, & 90% of their software would just work without a problem. but hopefully the workaround in this video works for ya on arch! :)
@@git_funky Yep so far it works without any issues. There's just an extra step on arch as yabridge throws a memory locking limit, but the instructions on how to fix it are on the yabridge readme. I'm getting pretty close to moving over to linux for music production. I've been using a hackintosh for a few years now, but keeping my thunderbolt interface working smoothly is tricky on a hackintosh. Arch has actually been really reliable for me, other than that I use Fedora which has also been solid.
Glad I found this video and while helpful for those who care about running NI on Linux, it only helped remind me that I should put my money towards Linux compatible software
Also, you can have Kontakt 7 show side pane for libraries just like previous version of Kontakt, and in there you'll find the libraries. Only the new library browser doesn't work with Wine. But K7 can show the library pane just as Kontakt 6 ;)
It may help to select Windows 10 under winecfg for installing the legacy Native Access program. Selecting Windows 7 did let my installer hang up at a certain point.
You can see the libraries in Kontakt 7 by clicking the icon in the top left that looks like two rectangles. It says that's the "minimize" button. Thanks for your help!
Any chance you could do a tutorial on IK Product Manager / SampleTank4 ? I've struggled with it for the past few days already but no success yet. I copied the backed up folders from my Windows Drive over. The VST itself also shows up as installed in the IK Product Manager, but the SampleTank (mandatory...) itself won't installed. Keeps giving me the error "code 2110" complaining that a folder doesn't exist - even though it does.
Thank you for sharing this video. I would like to find a video tutorial showing and explaining all the steps needed to turn "Linux Mint" (or any other debian based distro) onto an audio workstation. Most of the videos I found about this are old, not updated and somehow always assume that the viewer already knows somethings about how audio works on Linux but most of the time, people searching for such info don't have a clue about it and are new to Linux. It is needed a simple tutorial introducing and explaining what to install for music production in Linux (NOTE: I'm not talking about DAWS or any other app for audio production, I'm talking about how to prepare a Linux distro for music production using VST, MIDI, Low-latency-audio and all the related configs.). Something like, what to install (ALSA, PulseAudio, JACK, Pipewire) and how to best config and use these. Anyways.. thanks for this video.
@@git_funky It would be awesome... believe me. Many users are more than tired of Windows (MS) and their policies. Many prefer a less intrusive OS, like Linux. It is also a shame that the VSTi developers (and many times the electronics licenses systems, like "iLok" or "eLicenser") do not offer Linux variants of such products. I bet if they did, many professional musicians (like me) would choose Linux over Windows anytime but also for that, Linux distros should get simpler and be "more ready" to accommodate such market segment in the "out of the box" installation process.
oh, thank u. I wanna use bitwig linux let me concentrated, Can other virtual instruments be used in the same way? i have some plugins like IK multimedia, spitfireaudio, melodyne.....
When I get to the install wizard after mounting I get a 'disk not found' Please insert hybrid keys. Very confusing as I've just mounted it? Anyone have any ideas how I can proceed?
When you're doing the iso mounting, can you do *.iso in that bash script to mount them all or do you need to do them all individually? I have two other concerns. Im a full time music producer working with other studios within my company and we refularly share projects. Ive had no issues (so far) opening projects between mac and windows except if there are mismatched versions of the plugins. Like if my colleague updates their kontakt version and i open it up, it won't load the preset on my project. This is remedied by updating kontakt. But will this same error occur if im using an older version of native access? Will 3rd party kontakt libraries work here? Such as spitfire and others
The problem is that after starting Native Access 1.14.1 it asks me if it should do an update. I assume that I will then receive version 2, which again I cannot use.
I don't think it is Wine because it said the same to me on Windows the other day, ever since they brought out Kontact 7 and the new Komplete for the mk 3 S Series everything has been glitchy my M 32 stops working with the other macros as soon as you add an effect or change track and they have discontinued the vst 2 version of Komplete so it is worth giving it another go, I'm about 3 months into straight Arch after a year on Manjaro and have a done my first scratch PC build for the studio which I will be Installing Ableton and NI on this week, so I'm guessing that if I'm using a Windows DAW and VST's I won't need Yabridge right?? Anyone any ideas how that works lol
If I can get all of my Kontakt libraries to work in Linux, Reaper or Ardour, Bitwig studios, FL studio in Wine (I got it working, seemed very stable just like in Windows), between music software and Proton, screw Windows. Screw their ads, screw their spying on me, screw their web browser BS in Windows 11, good riddance. Never thought I would warm up to the command line yet in some respects for many things I prefer it. Installing software (given that I have the name of the app) is so simple compared to needing to navigate menus in the software manager of Mint.

Muchas gracias!! Pude correr Kontakt 6 Player con wine dentro de Reaper, con yabridge!!

Which is why Linux users shouldn't give them more money and enable this behavior.

trying to install maschine and im getting stuck on BMIDI driver install and suggestions?
Sick dude. I'm trying to switch to Linux. Have a dual boot to test what works. This was really helpful.
Thanks man! That .iso problem was the last part I couldn't figure out about this puzzle, but now I've finally got things up and running
Really love the flowers background

Excellent! Thanks for the link!
I used your instructions and afterwards I finally could use FM8!

in this context it would be fine to say that wine is a bridge.. actually it is just an interpreter (like python)
What about NI plugins that require Native Access 2 ? Many many recent plugins don't even appear in the old Access plugin.

heck yeah, i could absolutely put a tutorial like that together in the near future!

Thanks! Looking forward to other music-making-on-Linux themed tutorials :)
Thank you for this video. I've been needing to see this about NI. Any chance you'll do a video on installing Spectrasonics plugins in Linux?
Unfortunately can't get Kontakt 7.6.1 to work. Just spits out some huge Windows error code when starting.
This is priceless information, thank you !

Great video. Extremely useful. Thanks a lot!
When I get to the install wizard after mounting I get a 'disk not found' Please insert hybrid keys. Very confusing as I've just mounted it? Anyone have any ideas how I can proceed?
Same Problem here
Had the same issue. If you are on Gnome/Nautilus just right click and mount it in the context menu. Then it works fine for me.
Nevermind. The installer opens, but can't find the iso?!
Install wizard telling me to insert ISO file even though I just did

I am getting this error too. Did you fix this?!
Just do it, it wont update to 2.x major it'll just update to a newer 1.xx minor mine is at 1.14.1

Can you try to get Omnisphere to work with Linux
Has anyone tested Maschine Hardware compatibility?
It worked! THANK YOU, SERIOUSLY!!!
Does it work on TRAKTOR PRO?
It just worked. Thank you! =)

You, my dear sir, are a god. Thanks a lot
Great tutorial video.
Thank you so very much!
Thanks ! Muito Obrigado !!!
super useful thanks!
You are a fucking legend! 😎
Thanks, dude...
