  • Craving takeout? This Egg Roll in a Bowl (aka Fried Cabbage, aka Keto Crack!) is a healthier, tastier option you can make at home in minutes! Learn how to whip up this low-carb, veggie-packed dish and discover the amazing health benefits of cabbage and carrots and why they deserve a spot on your plate!
    This is my all-time favorite cabbage dish! The ginger, garlic, and liquid aminos (or soy sauce) impart so much flavor while the carrots and cabbage offer just the right texture. And surprise, I’m using some of my home freeze dried produce in this dish!!
    Whether you make this with ground beef or ground sausage (or both like I do), this dish is sure to please without the take-out guilt or expense. So grab your apron and let’s get cooking!!

    Recipe:
    1 lb ground meat (beef, pork, chicken, other, or combo)
    4 cloves garlic, minced
    3 TBLS ginger, minced
    4 cups shredded coleslaw mix or roughly 1/2 medium cabbage and 4 carrots, shredded
    1/4 C soy sauce or liquid aminos
    2 tsp sesame oil
    1/4 C green onions
    Salt & Pepper, to taste
    Cook the meat over medium heat, breaking into small pieces as it cooks. Add the garlic and ginger and cook another min. Add the coleslaw mix and the soy sauce, cover and cook about 5 minutes (until the cabbage is wilted and tender). Drizzle the sesame oil over the food, add the green onion, and then mix well. Taste and add salt and pepper to your preference.

      I have a very complicated heath history. Modern medicine is amazing!! But if I knew years ago what I know now, about the power of food in our bodies, I’d probably still have all my bones and organs, or at least at least lot more than I do 😎knowledge is power!

    I always eat the cabbage core raw as it tastes like a cross between a radish and a turnip. "What they're throwing away is a crunchy, radish-like vegetable part worth eating all on its own-raw or cooked. Like broccoli stalks and kale stems, a cabbage core is a delicious, nutritious ingredient when prepared well."

      I don't like it cut up in Cole slaw but love it by it self.

      @@lanetteprice7508 maybe you could try it with just shredded carrots and then serve it on raw cabbage leaves, burrito-ish style.

      @@emgeespeaks8397 that is a great idea, thanks! I use a lot of “parts” that people tend to toss or compost but have never done so with cabbage core. This is a great idea!

      My channel is very new, it just passed 2 months old, so I’m still learning a lot about making and editing. But I do have a good handful of videos across a few playlists and I am very open to comments, feedback, and content suggestions. Thank you watching and commenting!

    For garlic you can also put in a jar and shake vigorously. Outside shell comes off. My first time to your channel. I like egg rolls but not the work to make them. I’m eager to see this. Thanks!

    looks very good Kelly. A nice change from the fried roll when your watching carbs,but love the flavor combination. I happen to make this with beef or chicken and its wonderful if you have leftover pork from other dishes. I keep green onions on my window because they continue to keep growing as i love this,but can you please share with me your recipe of how to freeze dri them as you have shown Id like to do a batch. I throw away each time i trim them. thanks and nice to meet you. good luck with your channel .

      Yes! Leftover protein would work great! Freeze drying requires a freeze dryer appliance. If you want to see that, I have a freeze dry playlist. But you can also dehydrate veggies in a dehydrator or even in your oven on the lowest setting. I’ve not tried it in the oven but I’m sure there are instructions available online: I found this one but haven’t tried it so I can’t endorse it www.alphafoodie.com/how-to-dry-green-onions/#

      Yes, 100%. I didn’t want to have to wash the food processor after. But it does do a great job of nice thin cuts.

    1/2 the cabbage, 1 med bok Choi, bean sprouts, a med onion, couple celery stalks, serve over glass noodles. If you have left overs- wrap in egg roll wrappers the next day.

    I also avoid soy so i use coconut aminos. Aren't liquid aminos also soy based? I know I stay away from it for some reason and i thought it was the soy

      I just looked it up. Here's what I found. Bragg Liquid Aminos is made from non-GMO verified soybeans. It is the original formula, created by health pioneer, Paul C. Bragg. Not fermented; meaning containing no alcohol and gluten free.

    You added garlic to the meat then proceeded to pick up the grater and then called the freeze-dried ginger "garlic".

    It looks fabulous, but I’m confused you calling it. Egg roll in a bowl when there’s no egg. I’ll have to try it. Cabbage roll in a bowl?

    • @abcHomestead
      @abcHomestead  2 дні тому +2

      Yeah, the name is a bit of a misnomer. Egg rolls don’t typically have eggs in them. I think they might, or used to have, eggs in the wrapper dough that holds the filling. The filling is this recipe, without the wrapper, and not deep fried. And so it is called egg roll “in a bowl” and a healthier version overall.

    • @minimalistknitter
      @minimalistknitter 9 годин тому

      Traditional egg rolls do not have eggs. The name fits here because it gives you an idea of what you're getting in the recipe. You could also use this filling in an egg roll wrapper if you are not keto or low carb. The name of this recipe is a perfect fit.
