I LOVE aerodrums. Absolutely brilliant. I have used them many times on gigs. They are fantastic, sounds are great and the tracking is incredible. Thank you very much for this kick ass software. I am definitely a fan of aerodrums
I think that this innovation is absolutely awesome and far outperforms my initial expectations between hearing about it and watching the NAMM demo, I think all drummers know very well the only thing that performs like a real kit is a real kit but am seriously considering adding this to complement my setup for when I can't play due to time of day/noise concerns etc. It looks like more fun every time I watch it, I'm an engineering student so I can also appreciate the tech that goes into a system like this. Well done gentlemen
this is totally brilliant, evolution. I've just received my aerodrums, and i'm totally impresed how real it feels and sounds. Congratulation!!!!! bravo
this is actually... very impressive. I play several instruments myself, but I never got a chance to try drumming properly myself because I simply don't have space, even most electric sets are a little big and they're very expensive.. Definitely will take a closer look at this.
He is, he is hitting the butt of the stick against the palm of his hand, which serves as a "tactile" feedback to know when to "push" again in the so-called "push-pull technique". You can also hold the stick closer towards the middle, and the stick's center of gravity itself will "mimic bounce". Alternatively, you can grab the stick at its ends (as if you were actually playing on a real kit), but complement a good finger/wrist technique, i.e. "push-pull" with a good elbow/shoulder technique, i.e. Moeller technique. If you combine a good hands technique with a good arms technique you will be a master of drumming on any surface or no surface at all. Don't take my word for it though, just watch Jojo Mayer's DVD "Secret Weapons of the Modern Drummer"
What a genius! It's really amazing what you've achieved right there. Have you ever tried self light-up drumsticks like Rockstix or Firestix? Would they be bright enough?
Have you thought about developing a vibes or keys version? Tuned percussion seems to be an obvious addition to this. Maybe allow variation of number and size of pads/keys, etc.
You can create elements with your own samples, so for example you could create an element for each Xylophone key and place them where you want them. We haven't experimented with this yet, the main issue would be the number of keys you can add to your "kit" and still be able to hit each of them reliably. (Our "Big Jazz kit" has 11 elements and works well)
I use a relaxed German grip with my right hand already, but I play with my left in traditional grip - would I need to adjust into matched to achieve the best response?
Sure, if people are interested we can make a similar video for feet. If you play heel down there is really nothing to say. It works exactly as you would expect. For heel up players there is certainly advice we can give.
yeah please :) because I play heel up for example , and I'm a a double bass player too.... I am really willing to buy this product :D other question would be how many cymbals and pieces i can have in one drum kit , and how is to program a drum kit...Thanks for your reply and attention :)
Carlos Nevalainen There is no limit to how many drums/cymbals you can have in your kit but the more you have, the more precise you need to be to hit them. There is also no limit to how many pedals you can have so you could have a hi-hat pedal, two kick pedals, two cowbell pedals, etc. As for designing your own kits, Aerodrums has a user interface for doing this which includes the ability to define your own drums/cymbals using your own samples.
aerodrumming thank you very much for your answers :) just hope to see a video talking and demonstrating the foot sensibility and maybe some tips for double pedal drummers ...thank you once more
Fame Little If you check our videos page you'll see we've added some recent ones showing workflow between Aerodrums and Reaper. It should be similar for other DAWs.
Hello. No the reflective markers at the tip of the sticks are too fragile to do this. You can mod your sticks and put the balls further up through the shaft (there are a couple of spares in the box). The reason why we don't show this is we believe air drumming is a beneficial way to practice in its own right, it builds all skills plus trains being independent form the surface. It is a great and fun way to complement your practice on a pad. So doing both is best if you can.
Would you say that it is possible to learn the drums on these? I'm a guitarist and have never really thought about learning the drums until I saw this stuff
+Matthew Hayward Dude, you can even learn drums WITHOUT ANY drum equip, i say that cause i use to study just by moving my hands in the rythm, and now i'm a drummer for 13 years
Do you need a specific camera in order to use aerodrums? Not the lens I know it comes in the package, but do you need a specific camera. Because I have no camera but was told a ps4 one would work fine, if so I'm prepared to said camera to use this
+Mr.250 Hello, it has to be a PlayStation Eye camera (the one that launched for the PlayStation 3, and is part of the PlayStation Move system). Aerodrums doesn't work with the new PlayStation Camera (the one that launched for the PlayStation 4)
thanks, does it come with the camera or do I have to purchase the camera? I have no problem with purchasing that camera since most places sell it for only like, 25 bucks.
+Mr.250 If you buy Aerodrums from our website, we bundle the camera with it. Our dealers usually bundle, and Amazon usually gives you a button to add the camera to your basket (I wouldn't advise adding anything else it recommends with Aerodrums).
thank you! I was worried I have to buy a ps3 camera (not like it would be a problem though) Anyway, I'll definitely be getting this product, no more noise complaints from anyone XD
You can use Aerodrums to practice timing and coordination/independence at home in between drum lessons. If your final aim is to learn how to play an acoustic drum set, you will also need a practice pad to work on sticking technique with a surface to hit.
Michael Nielsen Sorry, it's unlikely we'll work on a Kinect 2.0 version in the short term given that you can't purchase a Kinect off the shelf unless you buy an Xbox One.
Aerodrums can measure the speed of your sticks/feet to a high degree of accuracy allowing for soft ghost notes to heavily accented notes. The full range of MIDI note velocities and continuous controller data is utilized. In the case of the included samples, 16 levels of openness are provided for the hi-hat with up to 58 different samples for each degree of openness and for each hand. Unlike electronic drums, Aerodrums is able to tell which hand you are hitting with and will trigger different samples for each hand.
would practicing in this "special" way for the aerodrums, be itself a problem with practicing on a real kit, as you are using a technique here specially to counter the fact you are not hitting an actual drum i.e. you would not use this palm striking technique on a regular set of drums. great product by the look of it.. just would be concerned that having to use specific techniques for it that you would not use on a real set, or not necessarily use, would have you practising in a motion and method, that could negatively effect when you are on a real drum kit. Thanks
We haven't heard of people complaining that air drumming is negatively affecting their ability to play on an acoustic drum set. We've had comments from users and teachers saying they believe that air drumming is good to build finger control. Aerodrums is good for that because if you set it sensitive, it'll punish your mistakes if you are being sloppy.

This turned up while googling my concern with it. :))

@@drv30 Hi, might I enquire if you have used this product & your thoughts, thank you.
What a genius! It's really amazing what you've achieved right there. Have you ever tried self light-up drumsticks like Rockstix or Firestix? Would they be bright enough?
Bloody brilliant! I want Aerodrums
Convincing demo, would love to try one of these soon. :)
that is amazeballs.
Im practising exclusively on these now as they are very much the same as playing on a real kit after extended play.

The video covering the pedals is now up:
Aerodrums foot technique and pedal alternatives
I'm more interested in using this with a DAW can you please show us a workflow on doing this if it's possible.

Hi . I wanted to ask if it is possible to put a practice pad or a pillow where the drums are and play with the aerodrums?

Could you please tell about the audio delay? Is there any? Or it's so tiny I won't be able to recognize it? :-)
Hello, the audio latency is not perceptible.

Am I able to change the volume on each drum or cymbal.
Sorry I found the settings right after I posted this. Great little item you have here.
Greatdane productions Thanks for purchasing it! Yes you can adjust how your drums respond including volume, but also sensitivity and response curve.
Richard, where does the bass drum and hat sound come from when you do that solo?
+Sebastián Estévez Hello Sebastián, he's also wearing the foot markers so he can play the bass drum and hihat pedals.
I want to learn drumming, is aerodrums a good option to start drumming?
You can use Aerodrums to practice timing and coordination/independence at home in between drum lessons. If your final aim is to learn how to play an acoustic drum set, you will also need a practice pad to work on sticking technique with a surface to hit.
How can I buy this in (or get it shipped to) Australia?
Sorry for the delay, unfortunately we don't have a distribution channel in Australia yet. We are working on it. Drop us an email if you cannot wait:)
amazon.com has it last i looked!
Why not use the Kinect?
The original Kinect only updates at 30Hz which is not fast enough. I'm not sure what Kinect 2.0 is capable of.
Will you try to make it work for Kinect 2.0?
I would love to use your system in part with my uni project.

I bet no problem for ghost drums. XD
Let's hear you get the equivalent of subtle differences in tone by hitting on different parts of the drum

i already do that
Awesome product, it will be best if we can use it with mobile
couldn't u use a surface where the invisible snare or toms are to combat this
That's the same technique used in japanese kenjutsu with a saber.
Nice technique. It looks like you're hitting an invisible drum.
