    Quasthoff is gifted and very funny!
    What a BIG chance to see in action!
    The best part is the Jessye Norman's tribute :)

    I came back here after learning Jessye Norman’s death. What an hommage this is in retrospective. Two singers talking this lovingly of her work.

    What a compliment from a fellow fantastic lied interpreter! Love when he says 'THE instrument.' True indeed!

    Norman and Quasthoff have in common that they launched their careers by winning the Munich ARD music competition for voice. Norman in 1968, Quasthoff 20 years later.

    This is the first time I've ever heard "don't touch the piano"!
    My teacher in college actually suggested that we do just that!

      A lot of the older singers used to do that as well. It helps one establish their breath.

    But the text is CHE col dolce sussurro, not QUEL. They keep getting it wrong

      What are you talking about ? Their prononciation is not perfectly italian, but they say "Che" (ke) and and not "Que" (kwe). They are right.

      Antoine Garnier Quasthoff continually adds an ‘l’ to the word ‘che’. Listen carefully. Actually it’s very obvious.

    This girl is not paying attention to what Quasthoff is saying and she isn't looking carefully at him to see how he wants her to form the words., and especially the vowels. Also, what a wonderful tribute to Jessye Norman. I hope she sees this video some day. quasthoff could pay another singer no higher compliment.

      Harold H I know that it isn't always easy for a young singer to immediately implement what a teacher wants. I was just suggesting that she should be looking at him when he talks to her and paying attention to what he is saying. Young singers who have the chance to be in a Master Class with a brilliant singer like Quasthoff, should give him their undivided attention.

    This is surprising...seeing as most coaches I’ve worked with in Germany are all about fricatives and over pronunciation

    'Quel col dolce sosurro' - great tongue exercise. I think it's the "L" sound that leads us to compromise the sound.

    What did he mean by she is not touching the piano?

    • @fiatlux7655
      @fiatlux7655 5 років тому +3

      Not leaning or holding on to part of the piano, many singers do it. I myself have done it sometimes rather unconsciously.

    • @Litolygasa

      A lot of singers grab onto the piano for dear life and they are no longer acting with their bodies.

    I love Quasthoff but this is embarrassing because he spends so long on getting her to repeat a mispronunciation of the Italian text, which is "Che" not "Chel".

    Jesse Norman? Really? I wouldn't point to her for great technique.

    il maestro e' appena caduto dalla luna .
    una informazione per questo ''maestro moderno'' la consonanti non si producono con la gola.
    poi della pronuncia italiana Quasthoff non capisce niente,della tecnica ancora meno .
    povera allieva ...

    • @posnar
      @posnar 5 років тому +2

      Ridicolo anche che si riferisca alla Norman che non avrebbe mai cantato in una lingua che non capiva e che ha sempre dato maggiore importanza alla parola. Un "chel col dolce" non lo avremmo mai sentito di lei.
