"What I cannot read in your face, I do not hear." Of all the things Mr. Quasthoff says in his marvelous masterclass, this might be the most important for young singers to learn. He also points out something that science has demonstrated: a smile is audible in the human voice.
Totally absorbing. He is so full of insight. he knows exactly what to advise, he demonstrates wonderfully, and he is kindly, supportive and funny as well. What a treat for the young singer, the pianist and the audience!
The first singer who sang Die Stadt is truly remarkable. So is the accompanying pianist. I’ve heard many different performances of this piece, and this one is truly extraordinary.
Well, I am an actor and love to watch and listen to all masterclasses of music. It's lightening up even our work to a higher level. Thomas Quasthoff is an incredible good musician and teacher.
Thomas Quasthoff: AN EXCEPTIONAL ARTIST, AND AN EXTRAORDINARY MAN!!!!!!! I LOVE HIS GREAT GENEROSITY AND HONESTY!!!!!! Edward Jowie, congratulations for your marvellous voice and your exceptional talent: BRAVISSIMO!!
I've watched this twice, and every time my eyes tear up. I love the enthusiasm and energy he brings to these talented young men. And I love how they respond to him with greater and greater artistry.

I was stunned how precise and intelligent Thomas is as a teacher. So useful comments and suggestions!

It's difficult to get to technical or deal with technique in 30 or 40 minutes. You can bring a voice out, help them with interpretation, where to breathe, or how to pace a piece, perhaps address vowels and consonants but doing more in such a short time is difficult in my opinion
Wise, kind, funny, what an inspiration and a privilege for the young performers and us to witness it.

what a remarkable man and artist!
Amazing!!!!
Meet him in person and you will sing a different tune trust me
Thomas Quasthoff’s voice is beautiful from every angle.
Master. Respect.
Stunning masterclass. Some jolly fine young singers too.

He is indeed remarkable and its crazy that Quasthoff still found tiny details to elevate him even more.
I'm a pianist, not a singer but love watching Quasthoff's masterclasses!
Yeah, I am a violinist but love watching any great musician giving a masterclass.
These masterclasses are for musicians, not singers 😉
@ They are for musicians, including singers 🤓
it's a goal of pianists to play like the voice and string instruments imo xD

What a sweet and inspiring man this is!
Wow! Quasthoff is 60 here, and he still sounds extremely beautiful!
really great performances/coaching. It even helped my as a hobbyist in understanding of singing and music.
wonderful masterclass!
Such a delight to listen to singers with their sonorous voice talk to each other xD
Thank you for sharing your voice with the world Thomas 🙏
Just wonderful ..
I cannot find the "Am Abschied" sung by a baritone... the baritone voice is so beautiful..

Томас Квастхофф лучший, невероятный талант и удивительный человек.
The lesson at 1:56:00 is gold worthy! I feel envy for that student's luck!
"Trust your voice, it's very beautiful" - That's a scentence the student won't ever forget

Thomas Quasthoff Masterclass in Wigmore Hall
Edward Jowie
I have never been interested in opera....but Thomas voice is magical
This is not opera. :-)
Aleksander Strøm what is it?
@@abbdabb6219 It's 'Lied Singing' which is classical art song in the German tradition. Although, some may argue that it's a subgenre of opera...
@@abbdabb6219 - Concert, or rather, Chamber music / singing, as opposed to the stage or theater...
"Die Stadt" is a genial composition. almost impressionist
🎉
I love Thomas with all my heart. The part at 29:40 made me laugh so hard!
I appreciate that he will have none of the cheap effects with ‘voce bianca’ at the start of ‘Die Stadt’.
Edward jowie....what a fantastic voice!!!! Do you have any recordings? This voice is to be watched
Danke sehr!
I am surprised that something so tall isn't a bass!
46:06 failed Handshake lol
He's not trying to shake his hand, he's putting the music on the stand --- oh, I see. Yeah, the guy totally misses it :-P
why is that second woman sitting in tne background doing nothing during the second performance?
oh my God now I saw it: she turns the pages
I'd love to know the names of the singers he's coaching.
38:04 He is also a human metromone. 😂 That he can produce this sound and this resonant… 😳
60 and sounding like that?! Wauw, give me the age of 60 then..
Saying that as a tenor 😅
Surprised the second singer didn't want to shake Thomas hand.
I think it truly was a matter of nerves
which piece is played at the opening.. Schubert, I'd guess
Mendelsohn octet
Am fernen Horizonte from Schwanengesang. Schubert.
@mind DB merci

His wife is lucky.
I think he could give more technical advice, rather than imitating flows!
