Springfield XD .45 Tactical: Field Review
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- The Springfield XD .45 was in my collection only temporarily, but I enjoyed it so much while I had it that I found it very difficult to let go. In this brief field review I discuss everything I enjoyed about the gun, and some of the strengths and weaknesses I see in the XD platform.

I've owned the XD 45 Tactical since it came to market. I've shot a few thousand rounds from it and taught many people to shoot the semi-auto handgun with it. I've NEVER had a malfunction / misfire. Excellent weapon.
Do u mind me asking what ammunition u run through it?
I too own this gun and put a couple thousand rounds through it with no issues. Accurate, reliable and a great gun all around for not much money! Love it immensely !
MY MAN!!! This video was a tremendous help. Because of you and this video, I'm buying this firearm. The first 45 ACP I've purchased since buying the Ruger KP-90 back in the 90's. Many thanks for your expertise and sincerity.
This is the first of your reviews I've watched. As a career military and law enf firearms/tactics instructor and over-forty-years grunt/patrolman, I congratulate you on your style of presentation. Thanks for your professionalism and concise narrative.
I carried the 5" Match version of the XD45 for about five years during my final stretch of duty as a day/night rural patrolman. Despite one "reviewer" trash-talking the grip safety, that feature is what led me to shift from a match-grade parts-gun M1911 to the XD. The gluux lack of same is what has kept me out of the gluukk owners' club. Since I worked a relief shift in both darkness and daylight, the rail was a big point, and with no other Deputies on duty when I was, of course that 13-round magazine was a real plus. The only aspect of .45-dom this pistol fails to beat my trusty 1911 is use in our area LEO matches. I still use my 1911 for the Auto division and have retired my 686 in favor of an M625-8JM for the revolver division.
Thanks for the kind words!
@@TheLateBoyScout Credit where credit is due, bro. I'm curious whether you make a script, rehearse at all, or just wing it. I know when I've taught a class over and over, I can eventually just rattle it off, but your lectures just get recorded, one and done.
@@edbecka233 Thanks. I've scripted a few, but I'm usually too lazy for that. Typically I would study a bunch, shoot and test the gun a bunch, and then memorize some bullet points. When When I finally do the filming, I just try to be conversational as I present everything. There's a lot of winging it too though, and plenty of mistakes and forgotten details. Thank goodness for editing software!
Same here, got mine back in "09" no failures or malfunctions ever. It eats anything and every thing you feed it. Stays on the night stand with a TLR-2 for things that go bump in the night. 1st striker fire I've ever owned, and a smooth shooter. Have always been into the double action, external hammer, but this platform made me a believer.
Love my XD 45 tactical 5". Dbl Stack mag with 13 rounds cannot be beat, plus I did a custom green paint on bottom, looks and shoots excellent. I never had an issue.
MIne came with an OD green frame. I put a good soft-edged DuraCoat on the slide of OD Green and coyote. I like thick Duracoat, in case the pistol gets dropped on pavement, etc. The DuraCoat just get's chipped away, protecting the weapon. I can always go back and touch-up the DuraCoat later.
Looks like I made a great purchase
I just got one last week.
Am never going to use it. Just got it for home defense. But if one day I need it. It will be there like a brand new Toyota
Just bought one today xd 45 tactical for $499, Springfield armory has a promotion til June where you get 6 mags, 2 pouches and a hoster what a deal!
emcap I just got one last Monday 45 service model 449 great gun great price
Just picked one up for 349
@@iancurtis5397 lol I just got one for 300, I love gun price fluctuation, probably only major industry where prices actually go down significantly depending on whose in office and other factors
I'm picking mine up in a couple days(due to systems being bogged down) and I'm really excited for my first 45. Comes with the hard case, mag holster, speed loader and the same owb holster in the video for 425.
Bob by $300? Man I can’t find it lower than $478 new. Did you buy it used?
I own an xd 45 tactical, I swapped out the stock trigger for a powder river precision trigger. It shoots great. 1-2" holes at 7 yards easy.
i purchased this same model for home defense about 6 months ago. the streamlight tlr-3 works really well with it bc its compact and sits far back from the end of the barrel. combined with the long slide its a great combination. the xd45 tactical is a VERY strong, durable, reliable and accurate pistol. i still love my glocks but the xd45 tactical holds a special place in my heart
I keep going back to this video since one of the firearms I considered having after my first (9mm) firearm is this XD45 since I’ve shot fairly well with it when I rented one.
I definitely consider this over a 1911 because of capacity. For newer shooters who have been shooting handguns for a year at least once a month every year, I’d recommend them to try this one year later.
As soon as I bought mine I wanted to see what this pistol's limits were. I abused it with unjacketed lead reloads. Leaded it up, and it all just blew out of the barrel. Tough pistol, that is not picky when it comes to ammo. Good preparedness weapon.
Extremely durable pistol! I urinated on mine and farted on it a few times and it fired flawlessly.
Just acquired one, non tactical, but love the feel, and being croation decent, it has been on the list for a while. Love the feel, xd 45 is a great fit. Thanks for the review.
Still my nightstand gun.
Owned it for about 15 years or so. Thousand• rounds....
A great pistol for sure.
Have had the privilege of shooting several XDs ...
All of them excellent...
No matter what caliber... 👍
i bought this exact same gun a couple a weeks ago ..... I LOVE IT!!!! very nice gun!!!
Nice gun. I have heard that carbon build up can make the chamber indicator stick in the up position, so its probably a good idea to press check it anyway. I do it with my LC9.
This is my EDC handgun. Never failed me yet. 💪🏾
Peace bro. How do you edc this monster? It's crazy heavy. Do you appendix carry?
@@JMF2 I edc this in my purse... I know what you mean. It's effectively large.
I bought this gun used about 5 years ago and initially put about 100 rounds through it. Then it's just been sitting. I really need to get it out and put it through more training. My go to carry has been the XD-s mod 2 in 45 acp.
Without going into detail about my job,I use the xd line of handguns with excellent results,I've never had any fails they are as I call them the AK 47 of the pistol world dirt, dust, swamp water or any real world conditions they will all always run,I will say for the Best results I use Speer gold Dot's,any ammo works in them but for accuracy Speer seems to be what they like, Another pro in my opinion is they are extremely user friendly I've had people with very little firearm experience pick one up and a couple mags later hitting center Mass at 25 yards,my partners and I shoot dasani water bottles at a 100 yards with the 40 and 45's,I will say I don't care for the hell cats springfield screwed the pooch when they made that model, but great video very interesting
@ anthonyknox....Im a lefty and I have no problems with my XD45. The holster that comes with it will be useless to you, but that's the only issue. I find that the slide catch operates very easily with a little extra practice. The XD is a great, reliable, comfortable, and easy to shoot handgun. Don't worry about being a lefty, you will like this gun.
Yup
Good no nonsense reveiw , have you done a reveiw on the 9mm version ?
Keep up the good work
I have had mine since they came out. Added night sights, tlr1 and od green ceracote slide. Its my go to now and use it for deer hunting too. Great vid
I purchased one of these used about 3 years ago, it is the handgun I shoot most accurately. Yesterday at gun show I couldn't resist purchasing a Mod2 XD45 Tactical for $355...I assume I'll shoot it just as well or perhaps better, Did a little dry fire practice last night, it seems to sit very comfortably in my hand
I have to agree on all counts! I’ve owned many Glocks and while I don’t care for their triggers, they are infallible. I recently bought the Springfield XD .45 Tactical and I’m pleased to no end! Do you know who makes a good holster for a war belt set up? Good job Boy Scout! 🇺🇸🇺🇸⚓️⚓️🤘🤙
I have the 5" (compact) with the short grip (10rnd) and am able to run the 13tnd mags also with a sleeve. Very accurate.
I bought a two tone that same model, saw it at a store and it caught my eye. Still haven't shot it yet
I'm not certain about the standard XD, but with my XDM .45, you don't have to pull the trigger during disassembly. Once you rotate the lever, you can just release the slide and push it forward.
theres someting special about those xd guns. Mines in a 40sw and I have no problem making tight groups. Was real surprised by it.
I always say if you miss your grouping, hit what you miss next time and it is redemption for the missed placed bullet. That is excellent grouping.
love the looks of this. Now I'm torn between a 1911 and this for my first .45
My next gun. Damn California's 1 in 30 day rule.
How you like it? I just locked down mine today. Waiting 10 days.
@@niners5time822 I still have it. It's good. I kicks a lot thanks to how light it is compared to a 1911.
Niners 5time where did you get yours from? I’m in Southern California and had to put a “special order” because they were out of stock. Been 2 weeks and they still haven’t got any. I’m getting mine from Ammo Bros.
@@epadilla2807 You can order them from Turners, that is where I bought mine from, so far 250 rounds of fun have been through it. :D
Santi I should’ve done that. Unfortunately I’ve already put down a 200$ deposit towards it. If I back out I think there’s a fee I have to pay. I was planning on going to turners but ended up going to ammo bros. Guess I’m going to have to wait it out.
Guess who’s late to the party boys I just bought mine today!!
Broooo I’m having problems with the magazine
@@trapreligousToon7414 what’s going on ?
Getting this in a few weeks! Going to be my first handgun. Pretty excited.
Do you live in Pennsylvania?
I just got mine a week ago!
Keith McCready No I don’t. Why?
@@ericbraden7141 I used to work with a man by that name here in Pennsylvania that's why. I thought it might be you.
This gun looks like a Sig and a Glock had a baby...a very, very beautiful baby..
And that baby grew up and had a baby with a 1911
@@averagejoe17769 1911? Not seeing it whatsoever. Not in the frame nor in the slide.. what am I missing here?
@@criggthekid I made that comment a year ago but I believe I said it because of the .45 ACP cartridge and the lengthy slide look.
** and the 5 inch barrel
@@averagejoe17769 ahhh gotcha. The good ole 1911 45acp. Makes more sense now
Quite a bit like a Sig
I just got this gun today for my 21st bday out here in california i paid 600 bucks for it. Not a single regret.
On Standard XD's, you need to pull the trigger like he did. The XDm improved upon the XD by eliminating that step, and including some more upgrades. ;-)
I really want one! I love my 9mm sub compact XD but this might be the next one! or a glock 22
@anthony Knox I say go for it! It's an ambi gun so it should work very well with lefty and righties.
Just picked one up from buds for $335. No hesitation before adding it to the cart
hey BS... I like your review. It was clearly a "choice" of weapon when in need. you showed take down, how it fired and were clear on set backs... thanks man!
Very nice objective review.
You commented on it being a good home defense, and tactical gun. How do you feel about it for an every day concealed carry piece? .45 usually aren't always practical for that due to size, and capacity, but this guns dimensions, and 13 round capacity dont seem bad. I am left handed, and carry/pull from my left side. Is there anything to catch coming from a holster, or pocket? The ruger p45, and p345 would catch on stuff at the end of the slide, where the sr 45 cleared to draw fine. Thanks in advance for your observations.
the other nice thing about the xd's is they never fail to function with any ammo have fired pure crapp thru my xd's and they have never failed to function now that is something, my kimbers and sig's have also fed the crap and worked every time. I have only had problems with colt and ruger sr series they do not like crap ammo, but quality weapons do not have an issue, no slop no worries, have slop then worry, after all it is your life, not mine.
My first and favorite piece.
I'm picking mine up in a couple days. It's interesting.. mine looks identical to that with the exception of mine having a thumb safety on the back.
I've only ever had one other polymer framed gun that's had an external safety.. well a thumb safety I should say.
I can't complain though.. the price I'm paying for mine used is dirt ass cheap and it is in pristine condition. I'm a stickler when it comes to how well people take care of their firearms. I have a bit of OCD when it comes to that. And.. there's not a scratch or a nick anywhere on the gun. It comes with four 13 round magazines. And if I'm not mistaken.. isn't Springfield manufactured in massachusetts? Maybe I'm mistaken about that I don't know I could have sworn in Springfield was massachusetts. I know that Ruger and Sig are right here in New Hampshire.
I've always had this thing for firearms that are made either right here in New Hampshire or very close to home. Definitely prefer to buy American made. I mean I think the only import that I really really don't like is glock. And my reasoning is.. I think that ugliest sin. It's just another polymer wonder gun that's way overpriced.
But that's just my opinion. Anyway.. thank you for a very informative wonderfully done review of sorts on this weapon. I do appreciate it. Stay safe, keep carrying and God bless 🙏
I own a xd 45 tactical I absolutely love it!! Does any know if it can attach any optics if so where can I find it?
I Love my XD .45. I have the 3" barrel, 2 -10 rd mags and 1-13 rounder. Seriously, shoots like a 9mm. hardly any recoil.
Curious as what holsters you are using with it,
I have a
On your six o.w.b . Kydex
But am seeking others
My father has one. He and I are going to go shooting, only have ever shot a Glock 17 9mm, how much more recoil should I be expecting? And is it a whole lot?
I have this gun in both the 9mm and 45acp, and lately i been doing lots of hiking in the woods, I encountered a mountain lion the other day and I scared it off because i had fire, anyways will the .45acp version be ok for self defense against mountain lions and possibly a black bear?
If you can find 200 grain hardball. You get about 500 ft/lb.
I love my Xd 45 Tactical
I love my XD .45 Tactical! I've had it since 2006. The only problem I've had was the loaded chamber indicator pin snapped around 10k rounds.
10k rounds.. damn that's pretty damn good.
I just got my xd 45 tactical from palmetto state armory on there scratch and dent sale 350 bucks there is no scratches or dents on it anywhere love it
Nice gun that may have to go on my gun bucket list.
I just got this gun absolutely beautiful firearm
Nice. I was looking at the XDM recently, but didn't like the space on the shorter grip.
Great review man I'm subscribing too. I've been torn I have a Glock 39 - .45 .gap and love it very much. But that Glock specific ammo can be an issue I think down the road. I hate to get ride of my Glock but I am seriously considering this weapon. Thanks for the informative review.
This thing never jam 👍👌
I'm honestly beginning to think that Springfield named this series of handguns the XD because they knew that's the kind of face you're gonna make after you shoot one ;)
lmaooo!! xD
In exposing me by king von he says 45 XD. Pretty sure this is one of his favoured weapons.
Just watched this in 21 jump street crazy ass hell of a movie
This is the .45 ACP I'm thinking about getting. It's a shame that I can't find one locally.
Why didn’t you compare the gun with a Glock 41, which would allow you to compare the two 45 acps?
I try to think positive and not negative. Thinking negatively makes shooting less fun.
Should I get this in 9, 40 or 45? I don't like alot of recoil. Looks great
9 is lowest recoil. Lowest power too.
great handguns. only thing glock has going for it are high capacity mags, other then that the XD's are better period!
the standard mags for Glock and XD both hold 13 rounds in the 45 versions.
Great gun
How do you think that it compares to the 4" XD model, if you've shot one, yet, that is?
I have a xd 45 tactical I was wondering if I can swap out the slide with the smaller slide? If it will work pls let me kno in the comments
cool full sized .45
although i'm still confused why sb would fabricate a safety like that..
oh well
nice vid
cool spot, where is this at?
I saw this at my local gun shop .. price is at 400$ and usually they give me a discount... so I’m thinking about picking one up ....
Thanks for the video !
My cousin has one of those guns and his firing pin doesn’t hit the primer hard enough to fire the round
That is one busy gun !
I have one and I like it.
Enjoyed this review. Subscribed.
Anyone ever shoot 255 gr +p buffalo bores with this gun?
I bought one on 4/17/14 at Birmingham Pistols. Its my best gun
is there a major reason you let this gun go?
This is my wife's favorite pistol and she shoots it very well. I have thought about an upgrade for her to the MOD 2 XD Tatical has anyone shot he mod 2 thoughts and comments
Does she rapid fire and if so how?
Nice review. My dad's thinkin about getting it in 9mm
iller mills I just purchased an XD-9 Service. Out of the box... it prints smaller groups than my Glock 19 Gen 3. Just ordered a PRP drop-in trigger for my XD-9.
The review doesn’t mentions it anywhere on how Springfield fudged over the folks of one town in Illinois.
Why should it. It’s a review on the performance of a weapon.
Thanks for your honest!!!!
Great review. I am subbing
Yea whatever they all shoot ok when there new. I bought two from Barstow for competition in IDPA and both are garbage now after only 6000 rounds. Because the rear guide rail is plastic unlike a Glock which is metal front and rear, the XD wears much faster. One of my guns has the rear Bomar sight adjusted all the way out to the right side now just so it will shoot straight. I also had to reshape the sear on one of the guns because it wouldn't catch the firing pin notch any more. If I new how cheaply made these guns were before hand, I definitely would have went the Glock route. My son is now a Ranger in the Army at Ft Benning and no one uses XD's for good reason but they will all tell you the Glock is a very good gun because they all use them a lot and their consistent.
tropicthndr you are an idiot if you have ever taken either apart you would know that what i say is true
Doesn't Springfield have Lifetime Warranty?
Want one of these as my new bed stand gun. Hollow Point Suggestions anyone? Looking for non bonded bullets myself (I have my reasons that are not up for debate). Thanks!
Federal Premium Home Defense Rounds. Maybe they will do the job?
Derek Lewis I've read a lot of mixed results.
For me federal premium is the one round type iv never had any miss fires or failure to feeds. But iv also only really used them, Fiocchi, winchester Remington
and blazer. So I haven't dabbled with enough to give a full opinion. If you got the money G2 RIP rounds
Derek Lewis I was looking at the Federal HST's now those look like a seriously mean round.
also thanks for the great review.
Going to subscribe. That was a very good, informative review, and I thought the take-down and reassembly demonstration was excellent, too.
Can +p ammo be used in Springfield XD 45?
I'm sure it can. Theyre tough guns.
It can.
Anyone know about the pricing of these in Georgia, I have the 9mm version but I want to straight trade to a 45.
+vadeem Stamey
I have one in 45. It's a dualtone. I'm in GA
+DAM1R I'm up in Monroe, I have the 9mm version. Are you willing to do a trade? I'm willing to throw in 150 rounds of 9mm
I am in Lawrenceville, so not too far from you. Send me some pics to my inbox.
+DAM1R what's your email, it would be a tad easier.

I love that gun! Good content too! Got anew sub here
very accurate gun for me
I bought mine 4 years ago and love it so much I call it my other girlfriend. I'll wear it out before I ever sell it.
I dont know about yall. I have this exact same xd . I personally dont like the safety on this thing. I haven't pulled that thing out for a while now. This gun is not safe if u have noun experience.
Awesome
You know what they say about .45. You only have to shoot once.
does anyone notice it has a mag release safety? or was I the only one to check that? lol
yeah but at lot guys really bother the grip safety that spring field takes from the 1911 😁😂😂🙈
$359 at grabagun
Sent money, never received product, $650.74. Six months later still the same, Bad company be aware.
I don't see the point of anything other than a safety trigger
So it can only be fired when in someone's hand?
