    My farrier would put the fear of God in me if my horses ever looked like that. He has been in the business for 50 years and he and his sons are no nonsense country boys. I swear they are psychic and know if I've followed directions!

      Maybe that's a better approach but it's not my nature. I try to make them say they will call me sooner. So it looks like it is their decision and not mine. But as you can see, I'm not always successful at that.

      I respect my farrier and his sons. He's been at it forever and both sons are very well qualified. They always call to remind me when it's time for a trim.
      I had my old horse for 15 years, and for 7 or 8 of those years she was retired due to chronic laminitis and arthritis....she needed custom shoes the entire time. (Put her down last year when she was about 29 due to founder.) I credit them with her life being as good as it was as long as it was .
      So, yeah, he can bark instructions at me, but they're always RIGHT. He's the only person on the planet I allow to bark at me. He's not mean.....just very matter of fact and brusque. But in 10 years or so, he's never been wrong.

    The amount of hoof that was on that horse was unacceptable. No one should wait that long to get them trimmed.

      Yes we leave our horses that don't get used or aren't broke for a year and its not half as bad as that so you know that that's like 2 or 3 years

      @@XTQ_Xena_princess it depends on the horse and the climate I'm looking at new horse who has pretty bad feet if you leave them for 2 months without touching up the heel but she is a amazing horse and if u do 2 swipes of the knife every week she is perfect but my other 3 horses there feet hardly get trimmed as they don't grow bad and grow slowly but hers grow super fast

    Nice horse with bad feet. I like what you do, someone has to do it. It amazes me how far can you go down. And some looks like don't hardly have them cleaned. You ever get kicked by a mule? Keep up the good work sir, I admire what you do. 👍

    Omg, what a nightmare of a hoof to trim. Hit it with a blow torch for a few seconds. Somehow, for some reason (science! (lol) it softens the hoof wall, sole and bars, making it much easier to trim.

    Ohhh poor baby. The owner/s of the waited much too long to get hooves trimmed. If I'm not mistaken: Is the "frog" growing to the left, instead of straight down as it is supposed to?

    Yikes, I think I’ve seen feet like that propped up on an electric cart at Wal-Mart. I’m sure of it.

    i dont understand how a farrier would work on that hoof and not do it properly. there's so many flares. I wished he worked on it properly or even better.

    The frog doesn't hurt so much?

    • @hotshot_rae
      @hotshot_rae 4 роки тому +2

      From what I know is that it needs to be trimmed down from time to time by a professional, because if you don't know what your doing it could hurt the horse

      The frog is sensitive because there is tissue under it. You have to trim it time to time, but if you go down too far it will hurt the horse

      Any horse who does not wear shoes and lives outdoors has a much tougher hoof, wild horses are constantly moving to find food and water which wears their hoof down, whereas a domesticated horse that is barefoot does still need to be trimmed every now and then but not as often as a shod horse.
